The point is you don’t have to break the bank to achieve similar tasks. The Kobalt, under normal use, would be an effective tool at most, if not all, job sites. I invested in the complete XTR kit and the impact wrench recently and am completely happy. It felt like if I got Milwaukee or similar, it would be to impress others and I don’t care what others think. If I get my job done for less money but at my quality standard, I’m happy. (And customers could care less what brand tools someone uses)
Agree. I have business and use Ryobi for the fact that I can get more tools & batteries for the Sam amount of money compared to other brands and I’m not racing to get screws in on job sites. And when tools get damaged or stolen it hurts less and cost less to replace them. That said for home use I like to have a different brand to not mix up my personal tools with work tools and I will take care of my tools better than employees.
My boss sent me this because he's a Kobalt guy and I watched about half and said this is more user vs user than tool vs tool. I'll stick with Milwaukee lol

It has the same warranty as Milwaukee so if you're like me and they never make it the life of the warranty, it makes sense to spend half as much for the same lifespan
Went in for flex 2 tool combo as i was not spending almost $700 for the 5 tool combo. Then i found the kobalt XTR 5 tool combo in a really sweet rolling case for $350. That was a no brainer, i love spontaneous purchases and later find out just how good a value it really was. Even if it doesnt really beat big red the performance is equal to it. And just the 1/4 impact kit is $299. For $50 even $100 (at full price) you get 4 other tools that of the same quality and performance. The roller box alone is worth $100. It is a pelican style and similar quality.
Lowe's has a 5 peace Kobalt tool set with a box tool, 2 batteries and a charger for $399.00. I did the math for all tools sold separately without batteries over $800

The fact that the Kobalt in Kyle's hands can hold its own against the Milwaukee in Vince's tells me it's a great tool. It may not top Milwaukee's best, but it puts up a better fight than any others I've seen.

@@Straight_White_Fatherly_Figure Spade Bits have hex shanks literally made for impacts and are easier to use with an impact since it doesn't transfer the torque like a drill. I think it's evidently a problem when it doesn't happen to other impacts but it's known to happen a lot with this one. Though, to be fair to it, even the Makita XDT13 with 2 ball retainers in the collet ended up losing bits during one of their tests. So, idk
I was stuck between dewalt and Milwaukee and this channel is what led me to get Milwaukee and I won’t ever regret it, it is a little more expensive but worth every penny the fuel line is worth it.
I would normally agree. They may be better tools but if you're like me and neither tool ever lasts the length of the warranty, it makes sense to spend a hell of a lot less on a tool with the same warranty and this close to the same quality

@@russellleahy I think it would be different. I noticed my drill sounds a bit more powerful and seems to spin a little faster. There is a noticable difference in the sound of the drill if I put on a High Output battery.
As a 11 Yrs construction experienced worker, just because your drill makes a Hole 1 second faster than mine doesn't make it better, My coworkers said when i first got my Makitas that they were trash, get DeWALT they said, well here they are 11 years later

If you use it like an impact driver instead of a drill, the collet works fine. Hell, if you use paddle bits the way they're supposed to be used, the collet works fine. I don't know anyone who plunges a paddle bit through in one go, doesn't clear the chips, and then tries to pull it out as fast as possible. That's not a real world scenario.
I LOVE these recaps, being that I'm working overnights and can't catch the live streams. Aside from that, put 21700 cells under that m18 FUEL and it's game over! Although i think this could be a serious message to Milwaukee tools to put the H.O. batts into their kits. Kobalt did very good keeping up with the Milwaukee, but that ongoing issue with the collet on the Milwaukee when recovering the spade bit is very concerning. Great TTR as always!
I love watching Pat & Mat Work I’m laughing like a lunatic, Really good test but I’m sticking to De Walt .. the red ones good but they , in my experience get real hot and that is a worry. Cooper Boehm maybe so, but I have used kobalt before, broke within a week. They wold not honor warranty. There was one scuff on it...the said U abused the tool. so now I don’t buy kolbalt and only go to losers as a lat resort

I'm not happy at this point and if they dont give me a new battery I'm going with an echo or a husqvarna trimmer because they will honor their warranty
Im serious considering the Kobalt 24v combo from my local Lowes. My only concern is you cant buy parts. There are no breakdowns or parts to order. Yes there is a 5 year limited warranty. But if its replaced, it will be a used or refurbished one, probably worse shape than the one you have. Way cheaper and faster for me to order parts like a switch and do it myself.
If I were a hardcore contractor then I’d probably go with the reds but as a diy guy and part time residential contractor I’ll just stick with kobalt because it won’t ever hit your wallet that hard
I been doing research on power tool battery systems and Kobalt is standing out right now as possible best bang for the buck. I have a ten year old DeWalt power drill and it looks like I may be better off buying into the Kobalt system than to buy a new battery.
So is no one going to mention the fact that the kobalt was using the ultimate output battery with the 21700 cells and the Milwaukee was running xc battery with 18650 cells? A fair test would be with the HO battery on the Milwaukee.
For the DIYer who already has some M18s (string trimmer, blower, impact wrench) as well as some M12s (Drill, Impact Driver) but is looking for an 18V Impact Driver, would you buy the Gen3 Fuel with the collet issue, the weaker Surge with no collet issue, or try and wait for the next generation?
You know i myself got the compact brushless non-fuel with the old school collet and its been awesome so far! Woulda been nice with the easy insert collet but it doesn’t make much of a difference.
I highly recommend the fuel gen 3, The collet issue only comes up if you use your impact for spaddle bits and personally i prefer using a regular drill for drilling and my impact driver for driving

I'm starting to think that all companies will eventually have to redesign their collet at the rate of speed these impacts are driving. Because even the new kobalt impact fails. If you think about it, the surge is impacting a bit slower therefore not creating as much vibration on the collet and it doesn't seem to fail.. just my 2 cents, whether it's worth it or not.

Hey guys,,,,,,regarding the milwaukee collet issue....when using the spadle bits and get to the bottom...try and not press the reverse button just pull out but keep action button pressed....not sure if it works but maybe worth a try?
I have kobalt tools and don’t have anything bad to say about them. As a homeowner and tree shade mechanic they have done everything I’ve asked them to do. If I had to say something bad I wish they wouldn’t have got rid of the corded grinder. (At least I’ve been told they were discontinued along with the fact I haven’t been able to find one to buy as a spare/backup) Mine has been a work horse and I will be sad when it goes. I haven’t bought the cordless grinder yet but it’s probably gonna happen soon with this boat renovation I’m working on.
M12 2nd gen fuel did the same with the collet found a heavier spring and made my tenisioners for it now it is a lil stiff going in but will not come out
Lol they would be breaking every bit you threw in it. That's probably why they just went small instead of increasing performance above what it already is.
I've thought this same thing. If they made an impact that was the same width, but like an inch longer, with beefier motor/and or impact head, holy cow, that thing would be swinging 3000 inch/lbs. That'd be solidly in the wrench territory.
I LOVE my kobalt xtr impact driver the ultimate output battery does what it says a noticeable different between it and the extended output. The charger in the kit is quite slow. So if anyone buys this i believe they have a rapid charger for 50$
The performance of the two tools are so close that I don't think it makes that much difference which one you purchase. Since I already own the Kobalt 1/2" drive, 24 volt impact wrench, I would choose the Kobalt 3/8" drive impact as a second tool. Barry

I beat the crap out of my gen 3 fuel never have had a collet failure. Not even my fuel m12 love the quick connect on them.

(At least I’ve been told they were discontinued along with the fact I haven’t been able to find one to buy as a spare/backup) Mine has been a work horse and I will be sad when it goes. I haven’t bought the cordless grinder yet but it’s probably gonna happen soon with this boat renovation I’m working on.

The hole saw test the gen 3 was spinning the chuck and the bit wasnt so the chuck was stripping on the hole saw
M12 2nd gen fuel did the same with the collet found a heavier spring and made my tenisioners for it now it is a lil stiff going in but will not come out
Still waiting on a 1/2" impact TTR.
Gotta make sure they are the high torques

Maybe Milwaukee should make a bigger impact driver to compete with the bulky xtr? Imagine what they could do with all that extra space
Lol they would be breaking every bit you threw in it. That's probably why they just went small instead of increasing performance above what it already is.
I've thought this same thing. If they made an impact that was the same width, but like an inch longer, with beefier motor/and or impact head, holy cow, that thing would be swinging 3000 inch/lbs. That'd be solidly in the wrench territory.
I LOVE my kobalt xtr impact driver the ultimate output battery does what it says a noticeable different between it and the extended output. The charger in the kit is quite slow. So if anyone buys this i believe they have a rapid charger for 50$

Will it last? And will Kobalt invest into R&D like Milwaukee? The M12 and M18 lines are extensive.
The performance of the two tools are so close that I don't think it makes that much difference which one you purchase.
Since I already own the Kobalt 1/2" drive, 24 volt impact wrench, I would choose the Kobalt 3/8" drive impact as a second tool.

Nice test. Last test , Milwaukee has loosening chuck grip problem.
Used tool vs a new tool... def effects things like the chuck pulling put the spadle bits
