I picked up this set about a month ago and am really happy with it. The tools are excellent value for money. My only (small) gripe is that battery recharging feels somewhat slow.
Yeah people thought Lowe's was ditching Kobalt for Craftsman, when in reality those two brands serve different markets. Kobalt has become the contractor-grade brand but at relatively low (or is it Lowe) prices.
That was a spot on review. Great job on hitting the important specs on each tool and highlighting the functionality of each tool. Reviews like this help reduce buyers anxiety and give confidence to consumers when entering the vast world of power tool brands and kit options. Thank you Kenny and crew. 👍🏻✊🏻
I needed a new impact so after looking at options pricing etc. decided on Kobalt, I’m a heavy DIY and although can afford the expensive brands I don’t see the need for nor need to impress anyone. Came down this and rigid but Kobalt was on sale so went that route. Very happy with it has been a work horse for me. My yellow drill started smoking last time I was using it so replaced with the Kobalt drill and yes newer than my last one but wow what an upgrade it is. Like others and you are saying Kobalt has upped their game and are no joke, I’m sure many yellow and red tool owners will say how pro’s would never look at them but I bet if they did they’d be happy
Kobalt has really stepped up their game in the last two years. It isn't just more affordable and powerful than most its competitors, it's also just as high quality as the big guys. The lesser vibration on the recip saw is an example of this quality control. It's funny because just a year and a half ago people thought Lowe's was neglecting Kobalt and then they turn around and give us something unexpected.
@@Protoolreviews People thought Lowe's was abandoning/neglecting Kobalt in favor of Craftsman, but in reality, the two brands are of different grades. Kobalt is becoming a contractor grade product in the XTR series, while Craftsman is more a household-to-prosumer brand depending on which models and how much you pay.
I had a 20% off coupon because I change of address and Lowe’s had a 10% off deal that day, plus the discount with the LAR account. I think I paid a little over $200 dollars for the kit!
Hey , don't forget that free storage box with the wheels , lol ... Kobalt really stepped their game up and at $399 for 5 tools and a Box , it's one of the Best deals out there....👍⚒🖖
Good luck finding it right now. All our local stores and lowes.com are out of stock. I ordered the set a week ago and it said 3-7 days. Now my order says back ordered. Doh! Definitely looking forward to them more and more now.
Just look at those reviews. Almost all 5 stars. www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-XTR-5-Tool-24-Volt-Max-Brushless-Power-Tool-Combo-Kit-with-Hard-Case-Charger-Included-and-2-Batteries-Included/1002274180
Fast forward a few years it's now a casestack box and can be used with other casestack toolboxes and parts organizers. While casestack isn't the best, it covers the basics and the base is the most expensive part
OMG ! The hammer drill is really impressive. I did not know all of its features. I bought one by mistake. Mistake meaning I needed an extra cordless drill and bought the hammer drill in a clearance package deal. It also came with a 1/4" impact, one 4 ah battery and a charger all for only $55. I could not pass that deal up. I did not know it had a kickback safety feature as well as higher torque compared to the standard cordless drill. The 1/4" impact that came with the package has more than enough torque to remove the wheel lugs on all of my cars as well as my 3/4 ton van. If I need more torque I just grab my Kobalt 24 volt 1/2" impact wrench. I have to say, Kobalt really has some impressive cordless power tools. The warranty of 5 years for the tool and 3 years for the battery is also a great selling point. From now on, all of my newly purchased cordless power tools are going to be Kobalt. Thanks for the great informative video. Barry
As someone heavily invested in the Ridgid line, I'll admit I'm a little jealous of these new tools. $400 regular price is actually a pretty decent deal for this kit on its own, but if they go on sale for $350 or even $300, then Ridgid should be concerned. While performance seems to be about the same, I think the additional features are the tipping point, in which it mostly comes down to tool features for Kobalt vs LSA for Ridgid. If I had to decide today between Ridgid and Kobalt, I might be leaning blue.
I've been arguing with guys at work. So do you think after testing this kit that I would be right up there in performance with my co workers that have M18 fuel impacts and DeWalt XR? I want the kobalt. How would you compare the 3?
Thanks for the review. I was able to get the kit and I'm really impressed with the performance at it's price. Im surprised that there offering at 399 and not more .
Rigid, Smidged.. Sorry but these XTR tools are a step above. Not that Rigid is bad but, the XTR will hold their own with any brand at any price and are much less expensive than the Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita etc. The Impact Driver is THE BLUE BEAST! This XTR line converted me over to Kobalt.
When will we get MORE!!? I have had mine for a couple months now and love them ALL. I am looking to replace all my cordless tools with these. Right angle drill, grinder, etc. Even my portaband
Cant ever find this kit in stock anymore but I've been slowly building my new tool kit replacing old worn out misc. Stuff with kobalt. Would be nice to just get that kit though.
Pro tip from my dad's mistake, take those dang batteries out while you switch blades lol. I was tense watching you swap blades on the reciprocating saw 🤣. My old man almost cut his hand off doing that and isn't a dummy, just one slip up in a 50 years was all it took.
Very good review and demonstration of the Cobalt 24 XTR, they now have the buy the charger and two batteries come with it and you get to pick a free tool. Think I want to get that circular saw looks real good. Thanks for sharing. # PEACE ✌🏿
I bought the xtr drill driver just last week. Definitely want to pick this up. The only thing kobalt is missing is a cordless brad nailer( looking at ryovi as a temp for this tool only). But theae tools easily keep up with the big boys.
Agreed. I have the xtr kit and it is awesome. The only ryobi tool in my garage is the 16ga nailer. Would replace it with the sweet looking blue if it ever becomes available.
I bought the 5 tool combo last week for $349. Now Metabo HPT has their 5 tool kit (all same tools in 18v, with the 36 Multivolt circ saw being the exception) for $399. Not sure which of the 2 appeals to me more. Any thoughts?
I have all Milwaukee stuff but my first set I bought for home use was a rigid set and it preformed flawlessly. Only problems with it was the low ah battery packs it came with. I was in need of a real impact ( for lug nuts on trucks and heavier duty “chores” ) and although I have a million 5 to 8 AH Milwaukee batteries, I went with the 650 ft lb of torque monster from rigid. The octane version. I have not a single complaint. And it was 120 dollars cheaper then the Milwaukee ( which I bought anyway because I have a problem. An addiction as my wife puts it ). Point being of this long, drawn out novel. For the money rigid is a bad ass tool. Don’t get the hate it gets. Much better quality then Ryobi n right around the same prices.
Point lost in my rambling was with the octane impact I got new octane battery and bought a set of two for the drill n small impact. It’s like a brand new set. That’s the stuff I let my kids n friends use.
These people that trash ridgid talk from their backsides. Same that talk smack on dewalt. They just can't afford them that's why they hate. I got xtr because I didn't want to spend more on batteries from ridgid. I seriously doubt kobalt is better.
I have that same problem, spent like 4500 on tools I really didn't need.Just kept getting good deals.Went Crazy with the Flex buy more save more. Then bought 2 sets of Ridgid's 399 deal wirh 2 free tools
Lowes has terrible time stocking this kit as they do for most of their inventory. Wish Lowes hired buyers with some intellect to determine when inventory is low and before they run out. Pity they really suck at that. The other day I walked through Lowes and the selves looked empty in the lawnmower department. Then today I tried to buy a Delta table saw and not one store had one. Ended up getting the Ridged at Home Depot. Lowes get your shit together!
I like the clutch idea on the drill. I'd have to use it for a while before I made up my mind on whether the rest of the drill is better than Ridgid, but I like that feature. On the other hand though, the one hand bit ejection and insertion is a deal breaker. I'm not a pro, but it is worth the money to me to not have to use 2 hands to fiddle with a chuck to get a bit in and out. Also, if they cheaped out on that little cheap part, what else did they skimp on?
Milwaukee gen 3, arguably one of the top impact drivers, doesn't have ejection, and their quick insert is literally the biggest black eye that product has. Sometimes old school is reliable, while new school has kinks that gotta get worked out.
Yeah i took a hammer drill to the eye couple weeks ago. About knocked me off top of a ladder. This feature could be interesting. But 5yr warranty compared to Ridgid lifetime is a tough call.

Kobalt is now Lowes Milwaukee. Everyone thought Lowes was going to ditch Kobalt and then Kobalt does this. lol
I was worried they'd ditch Kobalt after they gave so much shelf space to Craftsman. Glad to see them putting out some quality stuff.
Yeah people thought Lowe's was ditching Kobalt for Craftsman, when in reality those two brands serve different markets. Kobalt has become the contractor-grade brand but at relatively low (or is it Lowe) prices.
I’m impressed with the XTR it can compete with Milwaukee
Yeah
I'm going to get it. I'm a diy'er so I don't need to spend high amounts like Milwaukee or Makita, Kobalt xtr should be more than enough power for me.

I recently bought the 5 tool set for 400. They hang with my dads 20v dewalts stuff all day long. So yes better than rigid.
