In the cx90’s price range, IMO I believe it looks and handles better than the other vehicles in this category. So that is why I’m getting one. My dealer said it should be ready by next week! Oh and I tried sitting in the 3rd row. I’m bout 5’7” like him but I’m overweight. I set the 2nd row to a comfortable position for me to sit in and then jumped behind my 2nd row position into the 3rd row and I fit fine. I ordered a turbo S premium, so it doesn’t come with a center console in the 2nd row which gives more leg room in the middle for 3rd row passenger. So I have no problem with space in that trim. I live in Hawaii so I will not be doing any long road trips with it. So to me this is the perfect vehicle that offers a 3rd row of seating.

And, while it may not be as quick as the dragstrip as some of the premium offerings, it has more room than most, and costs tens of thousands less. It is THE sweet spot.
They missed because this engine and tech is new and not tested yet. The timing chain is behind the engine, so if it needs to be repaired the engine will have to be lifted out. Not good at all. Same thing will need to happen for fuel pump and other components. But while under warranty this is a great vehicle.
@@yankeesusa1 So you're basing this "miss" on a video that you saw on RUclips from a Toyota tech who didn't essentially understand Mazda's engineering decisions. Got it. No, those things aren't "misses". Timing chain issues really aren't a thing nowadays and realistically you shouldn't be concerned with one breaking, at anything under say 200,000 mi. And as far as removing the engine to service it, With the current design, we're talking about a 30-minute process if that, And this is according To a Mazda tech that I spoke with directly, who has been working with Mazdas for over 40 years.
I just got mine in July with the exact interior/exterior but in Canada the top model is still the Signature. It is a beautiful SUV and the fit and finish are way above its peers. If you’re looking for more space get a minivan!
Not really. Even basic competitors like Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Grand Highlander offer more space. Grand Highlander even comes with Hybrid setup. No need for a van.

Just bought my CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus yesterday. I test drove several cars before landing on the CX-90, including the Telluride, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Acura MDX, VW Atlas, Volvo xc90, Lexus GX, and Genesis gv80. This review is DEAD ON accurate with the pros and cons. IMO, I liked the Telluride the most but would have cost $230/month MORE than the CX-90 It has several minor flaws but overall you get so much more than all of those others cars (except for the Telluride) for MUCH less money.
Tell that to the NYC valet parking lot attendants who leave my CX-90 in Drive when they drop it off. Luckily the car is smart enough to understand what is going on when the car is in D, the Driver's seatbelt is unbuckled, the Driver's door is open, and no one is on the Driver's seat. It applies the e-brake and shows a warning message on the speedometer display requiring a Shift To Park before it will start moving again.
of course you get used to it, but when you see a conventional looking shifter like this you don't expect the Parking to require a moment to the left. when I test drove it and put it in "park" it began to reverse when I realized what happened (I just moved it all the way forward expecting it to be in park.) the bottom line is it is 2023 and nearly every manufacture feels the need to put their own twist on how to select drive modes... its maddening but a fact of life.
@@KillaninjaFCstop letting valets drive your car? The kid making minimum wage ain’t going to treat your vehicle well. Park it yourself and tell the valet to shove it.
@@thomas735 weight has nothing to do with looks. The Challenger is an extremely good looking vehicle. I think it will age beautifully partially due to its retro styling. Plus the higher trims have become collector vehicles. I don't even think the CX90 looks better than the pre facelift Telluride and certainly not better than the Porsche Macan. As for the Camaro.... GM can't design a good looking, coherent vehicle to save their lives.
@@iluvcakes19 the challenger looks good from the front IMO, my biggest problem is that the wheels look small in the back because the body of the car is soo huge. They took a sedan and tried to turn it into a coupe. It also isn’t sports car material. Korean brands have come a long way but the Japanese designs seem to age better, at least IMO. Obviously anything Porsche is amazing but this is Mazda we are talking about lol.
Not to be bias, but I owned a 2016 Mazda 3 i-GT hatchback which 100% all parts and assembled in Japan. Been driven over 120K mile and have no issues. Just routine oil change, tire rotations, breaks and spark plugs, plus a can of sea foam every month. I’m looking forward to the Mazda 6 with same power train end of this or next year, preferably 100% in Japan lol
I can't wait to see what the CX-70 is like. Perhaps the delay of it's release has to do with refining the drivetrain. Hurry up Mazda! Love the potential of this new platform.
Drove this trim car yesterday in Dallas. I have owned a LOT of SUV's and my other ride is a Benz AMG GLE. So, after driving the Mazda, I am indifferent as to which car I will drive over what my wife wants to drive. The driving dynamics are excellent, especially at that price point. Steering feel/brake modulation are Mazda, thank God. This is not your living room sofa and if you want an appliance that hauls a ton of stuff, wallows in corners, and is cavernous, this is not the drive for you. IF you want an SUV that drives smaller than it is because of the excellent suspension tuning and driving feel, the Mazda is the car. Tasteful styling is a huge bonus relative to the rest of the competitors. The powertrain is not as smooth as the BMW in the X5, and I had one (before it was T-boned) But a loaded X5 is $80K. Lastly, the German car repair bills are astronomical.....
Mazda CX-90 got top safety pick plus on IIHS crash test and if you look at all the individual test scores; it actually has one of the best scores possible.
This week we test drove a Acura MDX and actually two Acuras and a Kia Telluride before we test drove a Mazda cx90 turbo s. And let me tell you there's no comparison. The Mazda just feels like an extension of your body the car drives effortlessly. The other vehicles had various issues that were mostly ergonomic and the Kia had terrible acceleration. The Mazda is really the only car that I would consider spending this kind of money on.
People always crying about buying a car with a new drivetrain. It literally comes with a powertrain warranty. I couldn’t imagine waiting years to buy something I want because there is a 0.3% chance there might be an issue and that issue will be fixed for free under warranty. Weirdos
@@abishaialex9578That mechanic specializes in Toyota mainly. Take what he says with grain of salt. Inline 6 by their nature have less moving parts and are generally simpler than most engines. Due to layout , there is also a lot more room to work on maintenance of engine. There may be small kinks here and there to iron out but after a year or two it should be rock solid.
I typically agree with Sofian’s take on most cars but not on this one. He compares this with other cars that are not direct comparables: less cargo area than a Pilot? (Pilot being a FWD will have a deeper rear cargo compartment) then he says that some things in the CX90 are not as nice as other competitors: names? This is a non-premium RWD 3rd row SUV. It doesn’t have many competitors, maybe the ford explorer? He also criticizes it for not being more ambitious in the design therefore looks like a CX-9… how is this a bad thing? A car manufacturer that is loyal to their design language. Basically a Mazda that looks like a Mazda. Unlike for example Kia/Hyundai/Genesis that have no coherency between their models and look sometimes like Bentleys, Porsches, Mercedes… I have never owned a Mazda but i really like this CX90 and I’m waiting to see the cx70 as we have no use for a 3 row SUV.
This is mazdas first luxury car, they are changing there whole brand to be more expensive and luxury, this is rwd and has a inline 6, it has quilted nappa leather seats, the leather is on the level of a higher trim bmw. It competes with, lexus, infiniti, volvo, jeep.
So because the Mazda has a different powertrain layout that means it doesn't compete with FWD based crossover SUVs? Doesn't the Grand Cherokee and Explorer still compete with other midsized SUVs? As far as I am aware the Explorer and Highlander are no 1 and number 2 on the list on terms of sales. People cross shop them all the time. Mazda chose to prioritize driving experience in a midsized family SUV while most competitors chose to prioritize space for families.
@@Justmejbful it’d be interesting to know what’s the target segment Mazda is trying to compete against. Any car can compete against any other. People make car choices based on many things even within the segment. Mazda already had the CX-9 that was within the Highlander/Pilot customer. They chose to go RWD with longitudinal engine layout. In my opinion, this is not random and I’m sure people way smarter than me thought it throughly and weighed pros and cons.
Even though the car has more HP/Torque then competitors, it also weighs 2-300lbs more and doesn't allow for aggressive launches. But when you compare 1/4 mile times and trap speeds, you can see where the car shines. Also it is VERY efficient for a non full hybrid design. The 48v hybrid allows you to easily get over 23-25mpg combined. Most competitors only get 20mpg combined in the real world. Overall dont by the S versions for the extra power, because it isn't worth it. The base version will still do 0-60 in 7 seconds while being under stressed. Since it is an all new powertrain, that would be the safer bet.
But the turbo s trims have the painted fenders which makes them look better. If there was an option to get the fenders painted in the lower trims I would have just ordered a lower trim, but there isn’t so I ordered a S premium trim.
It does not weigh more then competitors, infiniti, lexus, jeep cherokee l, the germans all weigh more. Mazda no longer competes with what they used to, this is a rwd inline 6 luxury car there first ever the entire brand is getting changed over to luxury.
You're knocking points off because a Mazda looks like a Mazda? That's why we love this vehicle - it doesn't look or drive like any other car - it is a MAZDA in form and function.
After almost three months of using it I do have some complaint, the downshift at low speed is very noticeable and sometimes can be very annoying, the I-Stop system working not so well, I have to turn it off everytime I started the car. Some random noises can be heard in the cabin. although interior looking very nice but not solid (like BMW x5 for example). The good about it is very nice looking suv, very luxurious look interior, very good on fuel.
@@khalidalghamdi2512 After 6 months (7000 km), my CX90 had a problem with the front suspension, so I returned it in February 2024. I then went back to my BMW X5, a much more refined vehicle.
Your starting to complain about every vehicle you drive. Nothing makes you happy with these car reviews. People just test drive this suv. It’s amazing. Eye opening type vehicle and I believe it’s better than a lot of the German cars and you know it’ll be more reliable. Also you’ll have to get a 90,000 German to be better than this CX90 it’s that good.
I just seen this car today, I thought it was a BMW at first . It looks really nice in person. I had to look the car up because I never seen it before. Like the design a lot!🔥
In terms of the shifter, it’s an electronic design, so it should, theoretically, automatically put itself in park when you turn the vehicle off. But I understand it’s out of habit to want to put the shifter in park before you turn the car off.
For me, it's between this (highest trim model), or MDX Type-S, or Genesis GV80. All of them the top trim. Finances are not much of a problem, so everyone's been telling me to go GV80. If I want to save some coin, the CX 90. Only thing is, I'm pretty sure the GV80 is dead for driving dynamics, which is where the mazda and acura SUV's shine.
OMG Every nice thing you say is immediately followed by a "but" and negative assessment. One or the other would help w/o waffling back and forth. I don't know whether I would like this car or not.
The main reason the center console isn't very deep is that the vehicle is RWD so the engine is mounted front-to-back so there's a transmission under that center console. And the 2nd row console is deeper because the transmission is no longer in the way. Later, in the 3rd row you complained about space - I *know* you understand the compromises of a long hood RWD platform - they probably decided to not make the vehicle any longer than it already is (to add more space in the 3rd row.) You owe it to your readers to point this out when you encounter those compromises during your review. Now WRT the wet plate clutch, hesitation, and occasional jerkiness, I agree with you 100% that this needs work. I think if they double the HP of the pancake electric motor, the hesitations on acceleration would be fixed. As for downshifts, I'm not sure what to say. It just needs a little more time in the oven. Finally, if anyone gets this far; for the love of pete, stop revving engines in neutral! Seriously, it's what caused me to unsubscribe. Unless you're revving a V8, forget about it! People are far more interested (well, car people anyway) in what it sounds like under full load, doing a 0-60 run, or better yet a 1/4 mile run. Thanks.
Who is going to sit adults in the third row? We just got the same trim as in this video. Third row is going to be down all the time. Got around 25 mpg on a 3k mile trip at around 80 mph.
and you'd have no storage room, I test drove it and it was incredible how there was so little storage space, dead last in the segment for cubby holes, cup holders, shelfs etc. just not practical for families... its a big car (super long because of the engine) but has very impractical interior space.
@@canyonblue737-8 well I’m buying one for my family. This will be my 1st 3 row seater vehicle. Coming from an Audi sedan, a 5 door Subaru and a 2 seater convertible Honda, this has plenty of room for my family. More than I’ll ever have with my 3 cars now and it should be here next week! I’m from Hawaii so I won’t be going on long road trips and I don’t live in my car, so I don’t need a lot of extra storage space. I like to keep all my vehicle interiors clean. I don’t store unnecessary stuff in my vehicle. Cup holders, a storage spot for my sunglasses and my phone is all I need. Nobody is allowed to eat in any of my cars.
2:45 he talks about how it's a mild hybrid and not a full hybrid like....... The Toyota Grand Highlander? How about the fact this exact vehicle comes in Plugin Hybrid trims?
Only complaint I had of this when I sat in one is that it is actually not particularly space efficient. The center console for example is stupidly shallow to the point I think my mazda6 has a more useable center console. For a family hauler, these inefficiencies can be a deal breaker. It is a stunning car, but honestly a lot of the competitors aren't that far behind in quality. I am excited for the upcoming Chevy Traverse redesign, if it is anything like the current model then it will be an absolute champion of hauling people and their stuff.
I agree with a lot of these comments. You can’t compare this with a front wheel drive pilot or grand highlander because this is a rear wheel drive which is a bad choice for space but good for drive and handling. So you can’t have both. This is more compare to a lower price bmw or Audi.
16:55 Regarding ambient lighting...I don't need to change its color. Or its intensity. And I can't see why anyone else would "need" to manipulate ambient lighting either. Only lighting I 'change' is how bright the gauge cluster is at night, but that's different 🤷♂️
They've been using the powertrain in the cx60 in Europe for a year or two, dont think it's had many issues other than just not being the smoothest switching from electric to gas if you have the plug in hybrid version.
14:54 Sofyan the volume knob kind of doubles as the tuning knob because you move it too the left or right to go to the previous or next station or track
$61,900!!! Probably a good time to snag a leftover 2022 CX9 with some good discounts if you don't have to have the upgrades the CX90 provides. That 2.5L/6speed combo was pretty darn bulletproof and the Signature trim in that vehicle, topped out around $48K and gave you all the goodies the 90 does. The CX90 is great don't get me wrong, but Mazda has a few misses (pathetic sunroof opening and interior storage for example). Also, I don't understand why Mazda didn't stretch it just a few more inches and give class leading legroom. Then it would be a no-brainer over the competition and was the biggest gripe I had about the CX9.
This all-new Mazda CX-90 completes in both segments standard and premium, they started with an RWD to AWD drivetrain, and an inline 6 turbo powertrain with a new 8-speed. Not to mention the exterior and interior design they have also stepped up their technology and features. This car has and is everything expected of a modern premium SUV for those worrying about the issue, every new car has problems especially when it is new from the ground up. I'm older, I don't need a giant family hauler, just an suv that's not too big.
Well said & Amen!!
Just for starters minivans are lame & they're ugly. That's enough reasons never to buy one.
@@al151 Considering a RWD, luxury platform, the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and MBenz GLE are the closest competitors. The grand highlander for example is a FWD platform, hybrid that competes with the Honda Pilot for example, and the Hyundai Pallasade uses a minivan FWD platform. Those are completely different platform from an Inline 6 cylinder RWD platform.
Thanks for being a "beta-tester" for this new platform. Hopefully they will get any bugs out by the time CX-70 comes around, which is the one I'm more interested in.

Welcome to KODO design philosophy.
I have had my Mazda for 5 years and it’s been such a great car
Me too! ❤
Awesome vehicle and I love the Mazda CX-90 😍🔥
Just bought my CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus yesterday. I test drove several cars before landing on the CX-90, including the Telluride, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Acura MDX, VW Atlas, Volvo xc90, Lexus GX, and Genesis gv80. This review is DEAD ON accurate with the pros and cons.
IMO, I liked the Telluride the most but would have cost $230/month MORE than the CX-90
It has several minor flaws but overall you get so much more than all of those others cars (except for the Telluride) for MUCH less money.
I love the knob control and if someone has a problem figuring out how the shifter works, they shouldn’t be driving a car.

I was waiting for this from you!!
Check out that interior!! I love a nice two-toned interior especially, on the steering wheel. 😍
Does it have a touchscreen infotainment system or still using that outdated rotary knob?........
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 he explained in the video that CarPlay is touchscreen but not the oem system
I personally don’t like it, so I order 1 trim lower, a turbo s premium to get the black napa leather.
Perfect blend of simplicity and luxury. A very unique vehicle with a unique power train.
People always crying about buying a car with a new drivetrain. It literally comes with a powertrain warranty. I couldn’t imagine waiting years to buy something I want because there is a 0.3% chance there might be an issue and that issue will be fixed for free under warranty. Weirdos
It’s still a pain in the ass when something goes wrong, especially with the constant part shortages we’re having.
Awesome to see Mazda go with a turbo inline six!
Who cares when it’s in a automatic family CUV not a manual transmission sports car

@abishaialex9578 it's not complicated... fool
Unlike for example Kia/Hyundai/Genesis that have no coherency between their models and look sometimes like Bentleys, Porsches, Mercedes…
I have never owned a Mazda but i really like this CX90 and I’m waiting to see the cx70 as we have no use for a 3 row SUV.
These, mazdas are same sausage , diff lengths. Parts bin boring
@@JuanCarlosLTO the CX90 will eventually replace the CX9 though
Quad exhaust will look good being the top engine

How is the car so far? I believe Mazda has done updates that fix some issues related to the transmission, did you do it?

I just seen this car today, I thought it was a BMW at first . It looks really nice in person. I had to look the car up because I never seen it before. Like the design a lot!🔥
I bet Mazda left the traditional starter cranking noise on purpose. As a car enthusiast, I hate not getting to hear it when I drive hybrids.

In terms of the shifter, it’s an electronic design, so it should, theoretically, automatically put itself in park when you turn the vehicle off. But I understand it’s out of habit to want to put the shifter in park before you turn the car off.
Great video ❤review, Mazda is great .
The packaging issues you point out are not really issues. They are the difference between a front wheel drive architecture and rear drive.
The noise it makes when you put your foot down is not good … it’s great!
Imagine that power train on the successor of the 6
OMG Every nice thing you say is immediately followed by a "but" and negative assessment.
