Bounty hunters don't announce themselves either. If I was a police officer, I would ask you why I have to identify myself when bail bondsmen don't.
Moral of the story, don't open the door even if it is the cops.
You are under no obligation to answer any questions from any cop. Also, you are under no obligation to open your door unless they have a warrant. No warrant, no open door.
They want to talk too you so they can gather evidence to put you under arrest, do not help them arrest you.
This comment should have more likes but instead people are to focused on picking sides. We’re the cops in the wrong, yep. Was the dude careless in how he answered the door, yep. But this should be the key takeaway…..just don’t answer the door.
This is the correct answer. At most I have a doorbell camera. They can talk to me through that. If they want more, they need a warrant. The police are not there to help people.
This is very true. Unfortunately cops aren’t there to help unless there is an immediate threat. I’m all for supporting our police officers but if there is no need for an interaction then I’m not answering. I’ve seen friends that end up fighting cases for just “answering” questions.

Most people will never know how dishonest and shady the American legal system is.
I fought it for a decade back in the 2000's. It's WAY beyond corrupt, to a level people don't understand at all. It's easy to prove through the traffic ticket racket, judicial immunity, and etc. I have cops in my family, so I see both sides, but I'm always about 70% against what cops do, 30% for. As far as this channel's content, I've been saying for 20 years that the govt needs to do PSA's regularly *teaching* people HOW cops are trained to respond; people simply *don't know* and that causes a TON of injuries and death at the hands of cops who are rarely held liable for it. That's why you never open the door to cops without a warrant. They are looking for a reason to arrest you, don't give them any. Cops should announce themselves when they knock. It’s legal to answer your door with a gun. Also CA requiring registration for PMF is a 2nd amendment violation.
If the guy gets a good lawyer, he should beat the wrap. Assuming he didn't talk and say something incriminating, a lawyer can argue that he didn't know it was a cop and therefore had a right to have a pistol. Them finding out it's "illegal" in CA to have that gun has no bearing because they don't have a right to search his house for doing something that is legal.

Brandishing and menacing are illegal everywhere even in your home genius
@@rmsg7504 It's not "brandishing and menacing" if you're faced with a deadly threat and you're protecting yourself and your home/property from said deadly threat... genius.
@@hiltonlive32grnrngr It's brandishing if you answer the door with a gun in your hand before you've even established who is at your door. If you brandish a gun at the UPS man or a neighbor asking for a cup of sugar, you've committed a crime. You don't even have to point the gun at them to be guilty of a crime. In some jurisdictions, simply having the gun in your hand without justification may be enough for someone to press charges for aggravated assault.
You do not get the presumption of an imminent lethal threat from simply hearing someone knock or ring your doorbell, genius.
If I knocked on a neighbor's door to, for example, ask about a missing package of christmas gifts, and they answered the door with a gun in hand, I'd be alarmed. And if they then raised their hand a second later after surreptitiously dropping the gun behind the door jamb, I'd think I was about to get shot. In other words, I'd do the exact same thing as the officer in that moment.
@@dafunkmonster Fine, fair enough. You raise some fair points, but just so you know, answering/opening the door without first establishing who it is (while strongly not recommended for the homeowner's safety) is not a criminal offense, genius. I do agree with the officers' actions about drawing and even opening fire on the tenant in this video.
But in the video with the phony pizza delivery guy, my point still stands. The person who answered the door in THAT VIDEO would've been legally justified in "brandishing" a firearm if he would've had one. My point was that I'm sure he wishes he would've been "brandishing" a gun or at the very least had one available to him being as the phony delivery person ambushed him as he forced his way into his house.
Even if he didn't rush him when he opened the door, he would've had legal justification for shooting the intruder if he'd forced his way into the house. I know what's legal and what's not when it comes to defending yourself and your home so I don't need some Internet lawyer "educating" me about brandishing firearms and whatnot.
The cop tried to murder him....

The officer is in the wrong here. If they did not announce themselves and just knock, then the guy didn't do anything wrong. He is in his home and can do what he wants. He did not point the firearm towards the officers to have them think they are in a life and death situation to pull the trigger. The officers did not give the guy time to see if he was just being cautious when opening the door to strangers that did not announce themselves. But it seems ASP mostly always takes the LEOs side. Like giving suggestions on this video on how not to miss the shot. SMH How about suggesting the officers actually announce themselves when knocking to avoid this situation. If they would of killed the guy then they would have tried to blame the tenant saying they were in fear of their lives when he did not raise the gun towards them to have them think their lives were in danger. The previous video posted today by this channel showed a young kid get robbed by a fake pizza delivery guy. So opening your door armed should not cause you to possibly lose your life, especially if you had it pointed to the ground. But ASP tried to sell it for the LEO that he may have been in fear of his life after he dropped the gun and showed an empty hand. SMH.

They wont be there if a bad guy attacks you, the solve basically no crimes by %, and not being involved in the drug trade my chances of being victim to a violent crime are nearly non-existent.
@@glpaschall Don't let the RUclips algorithm screw with your mind about cops... RUclips is pushing the "all cops are bad agenda" really hard. Most encounters with cops go just fine and most of them wants to help and protect people, and keep society safe by enforcing laws.
@@TheFlyingZulu I agree with that, in general.
I think we may be seeing the result of hiring people who see it as a job rather than a calling.
The algorithms that you rely on to present you with information are tuned to maximize your engagement. Which means they are tuned to make you outraged. Outrage generates more engagement than the alternative reactions.
This is not a representative sample of law enforcement activity.
Sorry John but you’re 10000% wrong. It’s his property and the cops didn’t announce themselves. Earlier today you uploaded a “pizza delivery guy” with a gun. Get your lessons straight.
John also said *Don't Draw from the Drop* ,so if you don't have your gun in hand you are Screwed!
That fake pizza guy had his gun in hand, so even if the homeowner did have a holstered gun he wouldn't be able to get it out in time.
You knowingly open the door to cops with a gun in your hand, you might win a Darwin Award and be eliminated from the gene pool.
@@2A.Freedom Well yes, but in this case that wouldn't apply because the cops didn't announce themselves and then hid from view until the door opened and then shot at someone raising EMPTY HANDS.
If they treat everyone who has a gun as a bad guy, then THEY are the bad guys!
@@2A.Freedom I literally said the cops didn’t announce themselves so he didn’t know the cops were there. Do you know how to read?
@@ratroute8238 I didn’t say draw from the drop but having a gun in your hand for opening a door shouldn’t be a bad option. It’s his gun, his property. Should he have his gun in a locker somewhere all the time?
Officers didn’t announce themselves so he has a right to pull up to his door strapped
Wrong
Short version of my story- I made this mistake as a young man. I did not open the door to expose myself, only cracked it. I could not see who it was without opening it. When i cracked open the door it was two sheriff’s deputies. I immediately notified them of the situation and they handled it very professionally. Looking back, i should of asked who is knocking through the door.
Awful lot of justifications for the guy doing nothing wrong. If you can get shot by the police 1 second after answering the door while they are actively avoiding being able to be identified you have no right to be armed. Full stop unjustified. Knowing after the fact that its PMF unregistered changes absolutely nothing.
Very reminiscent of the Phoenix PD shooting of Ryan Whittaker in 2020. One officer suspended in lieu of termination and a $3million settlement.
Man the bad advice keeps coming from this channel, don't get me wrong a lot of solid advice but you seem to take the knee for your overlords quite a lot.
I ALWAYS have a gun in my hand if someone's knocking
Did the cops announce themselves? This seems like an unlawful shooting. The guy did not challenge the officers or raise the gun or anything. Luckily most cops can't hit the broadside of a barn
Didn't we have a lesson this morning with someone getting robbed by someone knocking on the door? I hate to agree with others but you seem biased. This feels like the same thing back when the old guy got shot by cops coming to his door.
Bad shoot by the cops. I normally back LE but a man has the right to protect his castle. He probably looked through the peep hole and saw nobody so coming to the door armed police are at fault on this.
I do what I want
"Don't Answer YOUR Own Door At YOUR Own House With A Gun. Even If You Have Reason Too" The Cops Knocked I. the Middle Of The Night. The Cops DID NOT Announce Themselves. The Cops Hid Out Of Sight After Knocking. "Cops That Come To YOUR Home To Bother You May Be Real Life Pussies"....
This Isn't 1942 Germany, This Was Ridiculous On The Cops Behalf. Didnt YOU JUST Post A Video Where A Fake Pizza Deliverer Robbed A Kid At Gunpoint?
It's Not "Bad Tactics" On The Citizens Part. It's Shit Tactics On The Police Part
Three months ago, my wife woke me up at like 1 in the morning that someone was banging on our door. And screaming. I grabbed my 12 gauge and went downstairs carefully. Once downstairs I heard them banging and I mean banging hard! I screamed " who is it ?" And they replied police, I don't have any glass on my front door so I went to check the peep hole but officers were shining their light, I checked out of my side window and could barely tell they had uniforms. I want to my kitchen and placed my 12 gauge on my counter before opening the door. After questioning me for 2 minutes officers rushed out without saying a word. They were at the wrong house. They had been called to my neighbors on my left for a domestic dispute. I have watched one video on ASP about dangers of responding the door with firearms. I'm glad nothing escalated.
I always answer the door with a gun. Normally appendix carry.
I answered the door with a bow, once. Never seen cops so confused before. Heh
(It wasn't stringed. I was actively working on it, when they knocked.)
HORRIBLE POLICE WORK. IF I DISCHARGED MY WEAPON AT A PERSON INSIDE THEIR HOME IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING. I WOULD BE IN PRISON RIGHT NOW.
Y'ALL NEED TO RE-READ THE CONSTITUTION
Plenty of stupid on the officers and no excuses. I'm embarrassed that you defended the cops here
from my view, the cop didn't give him any time to comply... looked like dropitbang
Why a split second decision to shoot? This seems to be all to common anymore. Please explain why in an innocent until proven guilty country police shoot first and ask questions later.
Did we even watch the same video?
Yes we did not that your comment explained the reasoning behind the officers actions.
I have a better suggestion: Do not answer the door to anyone you do not know. And do not enter any state where it is illegal to build your own guns. But frankly, with PSA and Turkey pumping out guns, rolling your own these days makes no economic sense.
Cops negligent to the max! The onus is on them being the "trained" individuals.
John you done messed up with this one…
Or maybe the police shouldn't shoot someone for just having a gun?
Rule 1: don't talk to police.
Rule 2: don't open your door for the police (see rule 1).
Rule 3: don't call the police (see rule 1).
Cops acting like cops. Gun first ask later. Good thing they panicked and missed.
Sorry John, this just goes to prove once again you are WAY too bias to be a trusted opinion on these police shootings. Dude didn't even point the gun at them, low at his side the entire time and they gave him no chance to comply, never announced, intentionally stood out of the way of the peep hole, this was literally an ambush of a lawful gun owner in his own home who did nothing wrong.
If you can't be a cop in America without shooting anything that has a gun turn in your badge and go work at Wal-Mart where you belong. If your first priority is officer safety and not the safety of the pubic you swore to protect and serve turn in your badge and go work at Wal-Mart. This exact kind of police interaction is why police have earned the hate they get. And people like you just defending everything the police do uncritically is only making the hate for police even worse.
Seriously, take a step back, assess your bias, and look at this again. This was a bad shoot all day, every day, and 3 times in the USA.
You knowingly open the door to cops with a gun in your hand, you might win a Darwin Award and be eliminated from the gene pool.
Under arrest for coming to the door with protection
Officers have a duty to announce they are police officers when they approach someone that can't see them. That is a duty. That is the reason this happened. You put me on a jury and I won't convict someone in this situtation.
A key part you seem to be leaving out here John is that at no point the officers announced themselves.
Multiple videos from your channel of people being robbed at their front doors, makes me think youre advice isnt consistent.
If they did not announce they were cops it's their fault.
I think the police (and citizens) need to realize that America is a gun culture so there is a chance people will answer the door with a gun in hand. Just because you see a gun does not mean you have to shoot
Maybe this two cops was not intrained properly..
Yeah that’s cool until it goes south and you’re dead
He didn't shoot him because the gun was in his hand.
He shot him because he appeared to raise the gun and point it.
