I'm so happy you pointed out that Cloud is not emo, I recently played it too and I found him just like an adorable funny guy, somewhat indifferent and with a few justified emo moments. He is totally not like Squall, but I think the movie helped to make this "sad I don't have emotions" type of character that he's been associated with.
A fun little tidbit! Squall is actually not an emo edgy boy in the Japanese version of the game, but a fairly run of the mill JRPG protagonist! The translators actually actively added instances of things such as the incredible line, "..." and "...Whatever."
Squall is actually in a similar boat as Cloud. He's just very socially inept, which he covers up by pretending to be aloof. The translation of FFVIII was really poor, in part because the localizers apparently never got the entire script.

The best part of the game is the cross-dressing quest. Not Sephiroth, not the Turks, not Vincent, but the chance to do a bunch of random running around and interactions to get your Cloud to maximum sexiness.
And the quest has multiple endings depending on how sexy you make Cloud.
I fucking don't get people who jack Vincent off so much. Bitch is BARELY in the game and his translation is Google translate worthy.

In Advent Children Barret leaves a voicemail to Cloud about finding an alternate fuel source which is oil. So I don't know anymore about the fossil fuel comparison to mako.
Barrett was all for coal in the original. The guy is a moron.
When I played ff7 first time . The setting was amazing and characters drew me in . Like barrett . Totally surprised for a JRPG . Was the coolest ff game for me . The music also Fucking awesome

Barret has great backstory, complex and believable personality, and for all intents and purposes, becomes Cloud's best friend. Calling him stereotype is exactly like calling Aeris a stereotype because shes a white mage flower girl in love with MC
Have you ever played this game with the Beacause translation mod? The thing a dude spent 5 years working on to make the translation accurate to the source material, unlike the original translator who had like, less than a year to translate the whole game by himself which is why the game ended up with the awkward translation it had.
Beacause made me fall in love with the game all over again, it's really good.

I remember 7 year old me, just got a PS1 with FFVII, my first RPG, and i get to the first boss that i can't beat because i'm trying to follow Barret's WRONG instructions.
I got frustrated and returned the game for Wipeout 2097 instead.

Speaking of, have you played an Trails games, specifically Trails in the Sky? That game is God Tier in small scale world building.
Nope. Not yet sadly. In fact, I haven't touched any of the Falcom games yet. The version of Trails in the Sky that's on Steam looks amazing though. Just looking at the screen shots alone makes me wanna try it. I love the blend of low poly 3D backgrounds and 2D characters.
It runs great on a potato PC and you can play the whole game with mouse only!
I used to lie on the bed with mouse one hand and play Trails. Comfy-est RPG session ever.
I hoped to see films and games expanding on and addressing the holes in the original plot. I was not wanting to see whole new ones torn open.

I'm FINALLY playing this on the Switch now that there's the option to turn off random encounters, speed up the game and cheat the fuck out of the turn based battles. I don't care though, I'm just in it for the story and atmosphere and so far loving the ever living shite out of it!
I liked ff8 as a kid, that being said I played it years before ff7 which then became the best game I'd ever played. If you judge 8 on its own merit it's a great game, all the hatred happened because people expected another 7.

I'm trans... I like the cloud cross dressing thing as I thought it was a really fun little story.
The thing where cloud passes for a girl so quickly is like a fantasy come true, so I also get some vicarious enjoyment from it personally. Other girls or boys may find it offensive but I can't imagine why, the game jokes a little bit... But Cloud isn't a Trans-fem woman, so joking around with the cross dressing is just playful in my opinion. Nobody is meant to feel bad at the end... At least it doesn't come off that way in the Translation, maybe the Japanese version is more offensively worded or done differently. Or maybe it isn't meant to be a joke at all and is played seriously... I dunno.
It was done back in the day when people weren't offended by !EVERY DAMN THING UNDER THE SUN! so it was a fun and hilarious scene to many all and all through.
Especially if Don Corneo chose Cloud. That shit was funny as fuck.
Basically it was "Okay, gotta find a way in and this IS apparently the only way in so better get it done and over with." Which led to many other funny events.
What made it even funnier was that Cloud most certainly wasn't happy about the approach he had to take to get in so he could rescue Tifa.

Also trans and love that this was kept in the remake. Ally trans freinds who play this game also love it. One even told me ot was the first time she knew and that's dam beautiful
@@cursedaudio984 I've been rewatching those scenes over and over! I only wish Cloud wasn't so resistant, but I haven't played the remake yet. I put the "beauty is from the heart" quote on my motivation board.

In any case the new game has updated it tastefully, not without flaw but better than the original.
It always made me a but uncomfortable back in the day and it still does. It's a big flaw in an otherwise flawless game

Final fantasy 8 is one of the best final fantasy games the world was awesome and the caracters are better than tidus or vaan.
Hurm. Cloud is just crossdressing largely by force to help rescue a partymember, so it's not even transvestism. In the minds of those who rage about it, doing something once means you are always and forever considered somebody who actively does it, so to them I am a paid and professional public speaker, stand up comedian, pianist, surgeon, veterinarian, photographer, racing driver, hunter, a dentist and also a mother. Which is interesting since I'm born male. You thought passing a stone was bad?
To be honest, yeah. All of this pretty much is what made FF7 so great.
It had variety of characters and people who were connected to other people and events even if you don't really think about it so deeply first time playing through.
And damn, it did feel nice to get to the beachy town after dealing with a town with a big arse tower, it was a moment which pretty much let player to breathe and take in every other experiences they had gone through thus far.

I think the compilation ruined the original game's vision and retconned a lot of the stuff that made FFVII good in the first place

FF7 was better than 8 in the sense that FF8 was one game, FF7 was all of the games.
FF8 was Triple Triad and some sort of quest searchy thing tacked on. FF8 allowed you to breed and race chocobo, hunt submarines, bet on stuff, snowboard, shoot things from a roller coaster, climb, jump, dig, and crawl. You had a huge number of things to do that didn't even require you to finish the main quest.
That said, FF8 was, I think, the best love story disguised as a video game ever released by Squaresoft.
7 was one game originally too though.

I actually picked up Star Ocean 4 the other day (literally right before they announced a remaster) and I do plan to review it at some point. I also want to do Persona 2, but I'm gonna play P1 for the PSP first. I dig the look of those little first person dungeons haha

All those action speak louder than words stuff is just what happens when you look deeply at a game's setting and the idea of what it's doing really this game more resonates with me from everyone else's explanations of the story rather than the game showing me and I have played it a few times
I felt myself detached mostly from the game's logic on how we were progressing from Don Corneo's mansion, to Shinra's headquarters, to when meteor appeared as for the world they were in.......it didn't really feel like much desolation to me even if areas that were desolate

As a trans person, I tend to scarf up up any positive trans/crossdressing rep. I think with this, it shows a lot of the different ways trans ppl and crossdressers are received: You have ppl who are fine with it, kinship with those who also do the crossing/transing, ppl who fecking love it ohmygodthisismyaesthetic *gasp for breath*, and ppl who prey on crossdressers/trans ppl.
And it shows what it's like discovering that facet of your life. As a trans man (who's dad died before I came out, btw), I never noticed there were so many different ways to tuck your shirt in, how muted men's apparel is, or the vast difference between men's and women's clothing is (from types of fabric, pockets, tailoring, etc). Cloud running around trying to figure out the best outfit is really similar to my experience, since I'm so petite.

I really gotta get around to playing FFVII at some point. I made it about an hour or two in with a friend and told myself I'd play it later. I'd hear many fantastic things about the game, but feel like the overwhelming hype is sorta building it up to be the 1984 of Vidya Gaems. I've played Crisis Core all the way through to finishing the Campaign, seen the Original version of Advent Children with the lack of blood and flashy post-processing and played Dirge of Cerberus to 100% Completion 6 ways from sunday. One of these days, I'll get around to it, and I hope the Remake actually tells the story the way most of you pretentious douchebags imagine it in your head but with a couple references to other material here and there!
Crisis Core is the better experience; you're not missing much by not playing through the original. If anything, by watching this youtube vid you get the gist of anything relevant without the nostalgia hype.
As this dude's later videos showed, Crisis Core is in no way the better experience, they fucked up a lotta things
Zack's cool and all yeah, but Genesis, "degrading" the clone nonsense and everything else really surrounding Genesis/celebrity cameo GACKT was really freaking stupid and not at all well written
As someone who likes ff7 lemme tell you sumthin.
There is nothing profound about ff7's story. It is contrived and obtuse, and more about the characters. It was somewhat of a political statement at its time that games could stand on the same stage as films, but it's been easily eclipsed by other, better games at this point.
Ff7 was fun because it was ridiculous and experimental, hilarious and melodramatic. People always talk about crossdressing cloud, but the entire game was peppered with crap like that. Cloud in the original ff7 was this hilarious awkward straight man for the insanity of everyone and everything around him.
The problem with the remake isnt that it will not capture the angsty depth of the original game, its that the focus of ff7 as an intellectual property has completely changed to be this edgy hardcore angsty abomination, with Cloud not having the characterization he had in the original game ever again.
Im maybe an outlier among trans people but I love the section where you feminize cloud lol I flipped my shit at it in the remake. I definitely see my gender in there somewhere. Especially how cloud just kinda nervously goes a long with it. It reminds me of when I was first dressing in women's clothes at the behest of my female friends.

So you mentioned the obligatory FF7 milking. How do you feel about Square-Enix's decision to retroactively make X a super early prequel to VII? Speaking of which, I'd love to see you tear X-2 a new one. The battle system was great, but jesus christ, they shit all over X's story and Yuna's character.
From what I've read, FFX being a prequel to FF7 was more like a cheeky reference for fans to ponder over, then anything completely set in stone. Can't say I really mind either way though. Anyway, I've gotten a fair few requests for FFX and X-2 videos over the years, so I'll probably cover them sooner or later. I just wanna wait until I can think of a good angle to cover them from, rather then force anything. If anything, it's worth making a video about X-2 just to be able to bring up that weird radio play sequel that they did. I think Tidus gets beheaded or something? I dunno, but I want to make fun of that haha
FFX isn't officially a prequel to VII. It's just something Nojima likes to view it as, with a few loose ideas peppered into compilation material that could be tied back to it (like Cid's ship for that obnoxious Advent Children movie being built by ancient tech, which could be interpreted as technology stemming from Shinra's ancestors who came from Spira or not, up to the fans' choosing).

The issue was all the characters were utilized in only one area each, and are lifeless everywhere else. Even Kimahri had plenty of moments throughout his game.
What do you mean they are lifeless? Barrett is always the same energetic guy in every scene. Yuffie is always cheeky it adorably sweet whenever she speaks. Yes they get their one main story quest but they aren't at all lifeless outside of them.
