    Finished the series (won’t spoil anything) about 6.5 hours after it released. Great adaption. Changes were big but never took away from the grand story. I’d be absolutely shocked if they don’t adapt Season 2.

    Finished the series and overall, it was a fun ride! Not perfect but not bad either. I think the series really shined on its own when it introduced some anonymous / additional side characters who were impacted by the war. It made the world more lived in and vast. I've always wanted more Jet or Hama-esque characters and somehow they added some. Loved some of the added flashbacks too (particularly of Zuko and Iroh) but a little iffy of where they were placed. Another addition I liked was the (spoilers) background on the 41st squadron. I didn't like most of the exposition, some of the writing choices, and some of the stiff acting, but well, I forgave most them LOL. Gotta say Ian, Dallas, and Paul carried this for me. Sobbed at the Aang and Gyatso moments, too.

    ---Contains Spoilers
    I liked it. I loved the flashbacks they added with Iroh and Zuko, i think they were brilliant additions, the "Leaves from the vines" tune at Lu Ten's funeral was genius. Didn't mind most of the changes and mixing of storylines . The Bumi part, although realistic (in the sense that it would make sense for him to feel abandoned/betrayed and eventually grow bitter in those 100 years that he had to endure a war without the Avatar, his friend, the person that was supposed to bring hope and save them), was not my favorite. They gave him some of the characteristics of the fisherman in the Storm episode. Despite that the ending scene with them on the mail slide made me happy enough. Yue was also kind of miss for me and i was really looking forward to her parts. Didn't mind that they also added some story points from season 2 like the Cave of two lovers.
    ~ Overall a solid 7.5/10 for me ~
    I feel like the people saying that it was trash/embarrassing/awful/flop went in with a negative mindset from the start and were never going to give it a chance at all. Even if it was 100% perfect adaptation they were still going to hate it because for some people live action adaptations are just pure evil and they tend to act as if the existence of the Netflix show somehow disrespects the existence original or like if the live action exsist that means that the original will disappear forever.

      So agree with what you are saying about Bumi. It made sense but made me feel so frustrated and sad. I loved Bumi in the original and he is a great teacher. Do you also agree the Gaang feels a little off? They dont feel like a group of friends to me. Especially Katara and Aang. But I am in episode 6 soooo I have hope.

    • @BiancaRagoni
      @BiancaRagoni 7 месяцев назад

      I completely agree with you. The Bumi and Azula changes were my least favourite parts of the show (though Yue was a little off for me too). I feel the same way you do for Bumi, but I also think that Azula's backstory could have been handled better, for me they didn't completely center her essence. Azula (which is one of my favourite characters of all time) is a complex character with a well written personality and lot of different shades in it, and I could talk about her character arc for I don't know how long... but what I will say is that I felt a big chunk of her personality being cut out, and that's one of the things that I didn't like about this live action. Despite this the show for me was more or less an 8/10, because I was literally sobbing in some moments (for example the "leaves from the vine" tune or the cabbage merchant saying his famous line) while others felt a little forced. Still it's a pretty adaptation and I also like that it isn't a copy of the original, and that it adds changes like the genocide of the air nomads or the Zuko and Iroh moments that we didn't see in the original show (I also liked that Zuko's crew was actually the unit that he defended, a cool thing to add). I loved the costumes and the surroundings, they felt real, so I expect great things from s2 (especially Toph).

      I was very open minded and almost liked 1 episode but then I just couldn't help but felt that I'm not enjoying it.
      I've watched 4 episodes and I don't even know if I want more.
      The best part for me is main actors, they are great. But the writing, pacing and the way how everything now is dark and tragic is just not working. It steals the wisdom of the story. It forces you to think about how war is awful and speak many things to your face instead of just give a good and interesting story.
      I really was prepared to like this show, but I just see too many bad things.

    Masks is a 10/10
    Yue was incredible.
    Suki was phenomenal.
    Spoilers....
    Everything with Zuko's flashbacks was phenomenally done. Spirited Away was very weird. I also didn't think much of the animated series middle episodes, they were also a bit lackluster. They even condensed all of them into a single scene in the bar. Beautiful. Loved that he canonically did everything from the show too.
    Completely disagree with Sokka's romances Sukki was so awkward. And Sokka recognized Yue from his dreams. I like that. Both put the moves on him. Which is the point. Sokka is busy looking after everyone else he doesn't have time to be his kid self. Loved it. Wanted more of each.
    Aang -8/10 (10/10 intro though Sweet KYOSHI!!)
    Warriors -9.5/10
    Omashu -7/10
    Into the Dark -8/10
    Spirited Away -6/10 (7.5 relative to film)
    Masks -10/10
    The North -7.5/10
    Legends -9/10
    Average 8.125/10
    Flashbacks 100/10
    Kuruk/Kyoshi/Roku Over 9000/8000 if ya nasty.
    I'd say good First start as a whole it did a great amount for world building but dropped a few story elements but in the first season i think we'll greatly prefer the former with hindsight. I give animated Book One an 8/10 too. So on par.
    Personally I found Sokka's and Zuko's storyline far more compelling, and i feel like this was the season for Katara. Which is a shame. The fact that nobody knows how to act like kids in this world is just chef's kiss. The Jet plot being combined with Bumi i was not a fan of. But on the other hand. I completely loved Bumi and the fishermen arcs combining into one. Gyatso forgave him cause he was there he saw no kid was gonna make a difference. Bumi was exactly the opposite because he was a kid when this whole thing popped off and did make a difference. Can't wait to see his return, this second time should be more in line with his original but damn loved the fact that Jet was heading down Bumi's path. That especially friends line was telling. In my head that just meant Kuzon and Bumi threw hands. Like they both knew about each other and did what they had to. We know who came out on top.
    Edit: Iroh being slightly out of practice is great. What he did do was stronger and faster than everyone else except his brother. Which as you mentioned might be intentional so half the viewers doesn't think Iroh could have taken Ozai. Damn you Iroh FireGOAT believers. The creators told you it's not true and y'all still believed it to this day. They had to kill that for everyone not just y'all. 😂
    I can't believe they didn't payoff the blue fire. Ozai is such an evil POS wow. Great casting. When he acts like Zuko doing the impossible actually makes him proud i believed that. Azula in universe does too. But i don't think it's true. We know it's not. Dude is playing mind games on mind games on mind games. Zhao being the real traitor was great but i agree Koizilla should have dragged his ass into the depths.

    I went into this with an open mind, and totally hyped so I really didn't want to dislike this. I don't like haters, and it bugged the hell out of me to read all the negative comments from fans picking on every little thing in the trailers. I've watched the series, and - to me - it was disappointing because it declined episode by episode. It's much better than the 2010 movie to be sure. (I'd rate the movie a 1 and this live action series a 5.5 out of 10). The overall theme was dark and brooding. If ATLA the cartoon was a peppy kid, then ATLA the live action was an angsty emo teenager. The comedy was gone. There were a few sprinkles here and there, but the goofy, hilarious kid was absent in Aang. The first episode was great, but things declined from there in my opinion. The biggest change that upset me greatly was what they did to Bumi. I really REALLY disliked how they changed his demeanor from a caring, helpful, old man who was fooling Aang into thinking he was senile and incompetent to a bitter old man with no joy and really kind of actually senile and a bit of a bully. There were other things, but I don't want to leave a twenty page comment.

      agreed with you completely, I went in excited and wanting to love it... but unfortunately it didn't hit for me. definitely better than the movie but everyone berating Aang was too much for me, he was sullen like 90% and although he sulks in the animation from time to time, here he does it most of the time and rarely gets to be a jovial kid. I also felt hardly any chemistry between Team Avatar, there wasn't enough time devoted to really creating a bond between Aang, Katara, and Sokka. Those are my two biggest critics.

    There are things that I really like about it. I think that they have placed the viewer in the world very well. The bending looks good. I thought episode 2 was great and Sokka and Suki were great (I thought it was hilarious that Suki was trying her best to impress him, but it just intimidated him/scared him😂...that was adorable). World building overall is very well done. But some of their chopping and changing with the story is annoying to me. I know I have to get over it but, at certain points its like "Why? Why do this here and now?" And I dont think 8 episodes is enough. I'm not done with the season yet, but it's a solid 7.5 out of 10 for now.

      I think the point is they had over an hour more runtime available than the original show but still couldn’t include all the story beats and removed/changed some while also pulling in material from book two.
      By having another couple episodes, and considering the time and budget available, they definitely could have worked out a way to retain more and keep it cohesive. I also haven’t finished it though so I don’t have any real judgment yet.

    • @caomhan84
      @caomhan84 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@keyframeclips yeah pretty much. I'm on episode 7, but I think they could have at least had 10 episodes here. The pacing is off. It's not bad.... Over all the show is good. But the decision to have eight episodes while covering this much ground... I don't think was the right choice.
      There can't be a 1:1 thing where someone says 6 hours of this is equal to 20 episodes of the original cartoon, because they aren't using the same scripts. The episodes are different, and time within the episodes are spent focusing on other things and showing other things. They cut things out and moved things around, truncated character beats... They needed more time. For me, anyway.

    • @keyframeclips
      @keyframeclips 7 месяцев назад

      @@caomhan84 Yeah, the problem I have with people using the number of episodes as an excuse to why they couldn’t have certain things the original had less runtime. Meaning they would have more than enough time to have a shot for shot recreation. That’s not what I wanted and I understand wanting to flesh out certain things and having to do some things a little different for live action. But, you should accommodate that by allowing enough time, not cut to fit into eight episodes that didn’t even use a full hour for all of them. -Also, my first comment was meant to be a reply to the SSJ person.

Bumi thats all imma say sigh he just did grow on me. There was stuff here from season 2 I thought this was supposed to be season 1 stuff. Don’t get me wrong love Kyoshi but I kinda prefer Roku. Um the intro the freaking intro missed opportunity to be honest. I didn’t mind some of the changes but the intro I was not feeling that. Even those they barely got any screen time Gytso and Sozin my favorite. This being said, Gordon and Ian best performance in my opinion. That ending is a potential for another season. Episode 1 really reminded me of a Chinese movie. I liked the visual aspects but the rest of it was just.... Cheesy. Very much like a Chinese film or TV drama (and it almost looked to me like they sped up the camera for the fights/kung fu... It looked really silly in an attempt to look "awesome" I'm sure). I don't know what changed but the rest of the episodes aren't like that. The show settled down and it seemed like they got their style and got in a groove. I do have other nitpicks for the other episodes but the show was good overall. The visual impact is what carried the pilot. I think that's what most people are reacting to when they give it a 9 out of 10.

      @@caomhan84 yes i agree! the first ep. did feel like a chinese movie. my nitpicks for the show are mainly the writing. For season 2 they need to write in more dialogue, specifically more banter between the main 3. I think having more banter would really bring the group alive and especially balance the seriousness of the show, which i don’t mind but some people complained ab lack of goofiness or comedy. Also with adding more dialogue, they need to give katara more lines. Katara in the cartoon was outspoken, passionate, snarky, but also kind and warm. In the live action however, they have katara’s character more timid and reserved. That’s bc the writers doesnt give the actor anything to work with bc she has no dialogue 😭. There’s a scene when Jet drops the gang off in omashu and after he says goodbye there was an awkward moment. she just stares at him. like what😭 have katara talk that’s what they need to do. In interviews, the actor Kiawentio is more like katara in real life than the character she is playing in the show, which is crazy to me.

    I enjoyed it. Some of the shuffled storylines caught me offguard but only briefly. Like "wait, why are yall doing that here? Oh, because- I see. Interesting."
    My only wish is that they had 1 or 2 more episodes to spread out the "bullet-point storylines" and allow more time for rapport building.
    Hopefully, they slow it down a bit for Season 2, and Toph; we need space for that dynamic to work as well as it does in the animated series. It does seem like they're setting it up for that so I'll be patient.
    I believe the naysayers are either perpetually pressed or have never consumed media that has been adapted into something new, changes are necessary. The writing is my main beef, especially the 'Spirited Away' ep. It's not perfect but this season is solid.
    I think true fans (and visual fans) will love it, the essence wasn't lost. And for non-fans, if you like Marvel or HP, you'll definitely rock with it.
