The reason AOD is so widely hated is because of how it’s set up. You have the first 20 percent where you will either die to 16 or 18 every time. then it becomes super easy between 20-33 then the level spikes in difficulty so much that 20-33 is easy demon compared to it. then after 45% the level stays at a super consistent ish difficulty. It’s super unbalanced and then the end. the end makes sense for its difficulty but its just so unjustified given the earlier sections. From my experience ofc

So by like 2024 (at the pace the top players are grinding) the #1 is probably going to be smt like og silent circles with everything having fixed hitboxes and we all know how unenjoyable that would be lmao
And to add on, most of the newer/recent past top 1s is just wave, ship, and cube which is why we hopefully are gonna get a new fresh breath of air with some decent looking upcoming levels i see implementing all/most/more of the gamemodes. For example mayhem

Cursed nerfing cobwebs and doggie nerfing aerial gleam are good things in my opinion. Sacrificing enjoyability for difficulty is not a good thing.

@@zcode9343 I get what you are saying, but in the end, gd is just a game, and sacrificing difficulty for enjoyment to make a level more fun fits the entire idea behind video games in the first place, being that they are meant to be enjoyed. Some people find putting themselves through brutal grinds enjoyable strictly due to the reward at the end of the tunnel, however from a lot of what I've seen from this community, especially top players that are actually doing the insanely difficult stuff, would rather have a better grind than a better reward. Feel free to correct me if I said anything wrong, and note that this is my opinion and it's not a fact. I'm just generalizing stuff through my perspective.
Varium said that if he were allowed to nerf hard machine, he'd nerf it to around Necromancer difficulty, which is something I think would have made the level better to play

Actually the only level in the top 10 (as discussed in this video before Acheron is placed) that isn't an old impossible level is Oblivion. Abyss of Darkness is an old level hacked by Exen, and left forgotten for a long time until Dils Thik picked it up and it got its redeco. Tartaraus was an old project known as Silent Akbar. Tartaraus was just the reworked version of that. Sonic Wave Infinity has a long history of several different versions trying to live up to being a sequel to sonic wave. You guessed it: The versions were old, and considered by many to be impossible. The first version of Firework came out a little before Tartaraus was verified and was considered by many to be impossible. It was handed over to several players and underwent many changes before being verified by Trick. So 9/10 levels in the top 10 are old impossible levels. That is absolutely astonishing.
From a cynical perspective, I have no clue why the wider community cares about how fun a level that like 3 people have the skill to play is. I actually care much more about the deco of a top demon, that’s the only semblance of enjoyment I and 99% of people will get from them. Like a level that takes any one person atleast 50,000 attempts to beat will never be a good time, no matter how good you make the gameplay because you’ll eventually get bored of banging your head against it for 3 months and grow to dislike it, it’s just how our brains work. Cynical take aside; I want the cool top players to enjoy the levels they play 😎
The list isn’t just terrible because of how hard it is, but because of all the garbage that on it like hard machine, swi, silent clubstep, aod, sakupen circles, slaughter house and Arcturus are all objectively abysmal levels that shouldn’t exist
hard machine grinder here. this level deserves more credit. i could just be a masochist but doing these frame perfects is really more satisfying than anything else, especially when you get to the 76-80 "death zone" in a really good run. the predrop is certainly lacking in quality but other than 18, it's not too hard, so it's okay. i'd also like to mention that HM is more of a ship level than you said in the video. the ship at 48 is not to be underestimated, with myself and varium both agreeing that the 54 ship gap is the single hardest chokepoint in the level. (side note: only go for this level if you have a good setup for the spam at 45. it's the kind of part that is impossible for some players and no problem at all for others)
I was definitely considering talking about that ship but I didn’t hear too many people other than aeon say it was too hard. Thanks for bringing that up! I also agree about the level being overhated. It’s definitely one of my favorite top 10s :)
imma be absolutely honest about top 10: i don't care at all because there's no way that i'm getting there any time soon, so even if i wanted to get there, i'm not able to however yeah, top levels should be somewhat good just because if the level is good and makes you want to play, ppl will improve way faster, leading to verifying new top 1 much faster as well
I think the difficulty of the top30 rn is pretty fun to learn. However in my opinion difficulty and list points are way too overrated. I don't think list points should even be a thing it's hurting the community more than anything
tbh I really don't see why swi is really hate. I mean by my experience with some tiny runs the level is pretty fun to play except for this trash predrop just like Sonic wave. also I agree with the fact that swi buffs were really forced (you can clearly see it with rori's version)

Idc about balancing because I'm not good enough to even see where the easier gp is in these levels, but only considering the atmosphere and music, my favorite levels are AoD, Firework and Oblivion, they look so good
I really agree with your take on AoD, and if I was one of the best players I would go for it. But I also am a fan of slow gameplay and I don’t get why people hate “predrops” as I think they’re just as important as the drop, and serve as a break from the drop too.
Trivia about levels in position 6# to 9#. According purely to victors Oblivion is the easiest among them, but according to the newer 2 victors off all levels is the hardest while Arcturus (randomly) is believed the easiest... So that 4 position are strange, despite the majority of the victors agrees of thinking Tartarus (randomly) being the hardest despite being the "easiest" according to the demonlist... weird positions had that levels

i agree with a lot that was said, but i personally don’t mind unbalanced levels in some cases. i don’t think it’s just me either. yes, creators should work to balance their levels as much as possible and play test and shit. as with the old impossible levels, i don’t think any of them should have been rated. only cases like Silent Club i’m okay with because it was rated back in 1.6 for a brief while until it was unrated cause it was hacked. what i don’t like seeing are these upcoming top ones that “claim” to be old impossible levels that were restored. like someone could’ve just as easily whipped up something and said he found it on his old iPhone 5 or something and now it’s impossible for whatever reason. i don’t want that to be the future. i like the past few top ones that we’ve had i actually really liked. enjoyability should matter, but in stuff like old impossible levels, i’d rather they be identical to the original and not redecorated or nerfed. it loses a lot of the charm

I think that a way we could possibly see more enjoyable or accessible top 10s would be to just make the gameplay easier but make the levels longer, which is (I'm assuming) why stuff like firework is considered enjoyable by so many people

I agree about AoD being overhated. Personally I find the buildup to the drop not being a problem, as long as it isn’t way easier than the rest. The post drop is what I personally find to be amazing and the decoration is pretty interesting. Best song in the top 10 as well. I find it to be a top 3 top 10 in terms of quality
I really don't understand why all of the sudden people are caring about enjoyability so much. I mean, if a level is an easy - hard demon, it definitely should be fun. But we're talking about top 10's here, these are levels that aren't meant to be fun, they're meant to push the game's limits. If everyone started worrying about the enjoyability of top levels back in 2015, bloodbath probably would've been one of the last top 1's. I'm glad that Zoink verified his version of Acheron, because it's the hardest version. The entire point of the demon list isn't for showcasing fun levels, it's for showcasing the hardest levels in the game. I've seen so many people complain about how unfun Zoink's version of Acheron is, but that's not the point. Acheron, and every other top 10 is meant to be hard, not fun. And I can't imagine that Slaughterhouse, AOD, and Sakupen Circles are very enjoyable either.
Finally someone with a logical take. I swear I see so many people call the top ten “so unfun” and “unfair” like yeah that’s what it’s supposed to be, what’s your point💀. Like, sometimes you DO have to sacrifice enjoyability to be hard, and if the level was sooo fun, then is it really a challenge? And istg what is wrong with a level with choke points? Like, people will give up on a level if it isn’t “consistent”, like bruh learn how to deal with choke points, this is the hardest level in the game not a medium demon.

My opinion of the top 10 1-Slaughterhouse : The atmosphere is good but the gameplay is extremely frustrating 2-AoD: I like the variety of gamemodes in this one but the long predrop makes it unfun I guess ? 3-Sakupen Circles: One of the worst, just get this one out of here 4-Silent Clubstep: Iconic level but it's no excuse for having some of the worst gameplay and poor balancing 5-Firework: I love this level for it's variety of different gamemodes, it reminds me alot of Zodiac. This level is surprisingly fun even if the gameplay is like absolutely impossible 6-arcturus: Okay level I guess, definitely below average for sure 7-Oblivion: I don't dislike it or like it either, I just think it's above average on the quality 8-Hard Machine: I don't really like this level, the gameplay is just terrible and unfun 9-Tartarus: I f*cking hate this level, This is by far the absolute one of the worst levels on the list 10-SWI: Good deco, but the gameplay can never ever ever be fun, it's just about as frustrating as it can get

- Swi : good deco but gameplay is not good since its buffed sw.
- tartarus : using clubstep song and pretty "old" design but still good in my opinion
- hard machine : I dont like it but the gameplay is kinda "unique" (if you take the top10)
- oblivion : idk about this
- arcturus : old garbage level
- firework : idk about the gameplay but looks decent compared to the top5
- silent clubstep : im not going to talk about this
- sakupen circles : same
- aod : same
- slaughterhouse : same
To recap : 6 lvls of "Current demonlist top10" (acheron + mayhem are still not in) are old impossible garbage levels.
Sakupen circles is one of the better levels in the top 10 imo as it's gp is very fun when nerfed and it has very high deco quality

Imo the sakupen circles predrop isn’t even a hard demon difficulty as my hardest is a medium demon and I got to the drop (but died immediately)
I agree about AoD being overhated. Personally I find the buildup to the drop not being a problem, as long as it isn’t way easier than the rest. The post drop is what I personally find to be amazing and the decoration is pretty interesting. Best song in the top 10 as well. I find it to be a top 3 top 10 in terms of quality
Idk why slaughter house is back at number one aod and silent clubstep are harder (in my opinion)

Does anyone realize how well the music synced with the gameplay in the Tartarus part?
I really don't understand why all of the sudden people are caring about enjoyability so much. I mean, if a level is an easy - hard demon, it definitely should be fun. But we're talking about top 10's here, these are levels that aren't meant to be fun, they're meant to push the game's limits. If everyone started worrying about the enjoyability of top levels back in 2015, bloodbath probably would've been one of the last top 1's. I'm glad that Zoink verified his version of Acheron, because it's the hardest version. The entire point of the demon list isn't for showcasing fun levels, it's for showcasing the hardest levels in the game. I've seen so many people complain about how unfun Zoink's version of Acheron is, but that's not the point. Acheron, and every other top 10 is meant to be hard, not fun. And I can't imagine that Slaughterhouse, AOD, and Sakupen Circles are very enjoyable either.
Finally someone with a logical take. I swear I see so many people call the top ten “so unfun” and “unfair” like yeah that’s what it’s supposed to be, what’s your point💀. Like, sometimes you DO have to sacrifice enjoyability to be hard, and if the level was sooo fun, then is it really a challenge? And istg what is wrong with a level with choke points? Like, people will give up on a level if it isn’t “consistent”, like bruh learn how to deal with choke points, this is the hardest level in the game not a medium demon.

maaaaaaaan i thought you were gonna talk about ascension to heaven at the end cuz the footage was mostly that level. well i personally think ascension to heaven not only will be top 1 (dont quote me on that) but it will be the best looking top 1 based on the revealed parts and the high profile creators working on it.

My opinion of the top 10
1-Slaughterhouse : The atmosphere is good but the gameplay is extremely frustrating
2-AoD: I like the variety of gamemodes in this one but the long predrop makes it unfun I guess ?
3-Sakupen Circles: One of the worst, just get this one out of here
4-Silent Clubstep: Iconic level but it's no excuse for having some of the worst gameplay and poor balancing
5-Firework: I love this level for it's variety of different gamemodes, it reminds me alot of Zodiac. This level is surprisingly fun even if the gameplay is like absolutely impossible
6-arcturus: Okay level I guess, definitely below average for sure
7-Oblivion: I don't dislike it or like it either, I just think it's above average on the quality
8-Hard Machine: I don't really like this level, the gameplay is just terrible and unfun
9-Tartarus: I f*cking hate this level, This is by far the absolute one of the worst levels on the list
10-SWI: Good deco, but the gameplay can never ever ever be fun, it's just about as frustrating as it can get
