If you're talking strictly about legitimately verified (as opposed to legitimately beaten) levels, then it would include levels like Demons Dry Out, Bizzare Milestone, Crimson Clutter, and maybe Stalemate. None of those levels were ever top 1, but they were among the hardest legitimately verified levels of their time. If you specifically mean legitimately verified AND top 1, then the only valid ones (before bloodbath) would be Demon Park, To The Grave and Extreme Park.

My personal favorite top one is zodiac, I love the atmosphere of the level and the song, but I enjoyed hearing someone else's opinions. I personally hate Bloodlust with a passion, but I could see why someone else would like it.
Zodiac really is just a rollercoaster of "What is this" "I hate it" "... it's alright" "Okay I love Zodiac" "..." "Zodiac might be one of the best top 1's I've ever seen."
Gotta love how the lower ranked levels [till number 23] were destroyed for deco. Even though there were basically no decorative blocks to exactly use back then lol

I think Ice Carbon Diablo X, Cataclysm, Plasma Pulse Finale and The Golden should be higher. Bloodlust has very stunning parts like the beginning but most parts are just regular hell theme decoration.

It's cool to see someone not absolute hate Sonic Wave for once. I was half expecting it to place like 29th lmao. I think the level is decent, personally. My biggest gripe is the balancing, as you said, but as far as gameplay quality goes, it's fun imo. People shit on the deco too, but that's the biggest low-hanging-fruit in the world to pick on the deco of an early NC level lol

I'm not a big fan of The Golden being above Artificial Ascent and Digital Descent personally It's too dark to see anything, and it's just a bland green level. It doesn't look like it'd be fun to play in the slightest
Funniest thing is, few hours ago two levels that are harder than tartarus just got rated. Both are red and black hell theme... Oh yea there's a third one too
I really like Yata tbh. I think it was mainly the verification arc, and how it was passed from around by some of the best players at the time because it was just too hard. It's easy to say in it's unnerfed form its difficulty was way ahead of it's time. Also around that time I started to pay a lot more attention to the community in general, or maybe it's just nostalgia. I also like Athanatos just because I like to watch the waves go squiggly at the end and the song slaps. Same case can be made for artificial ascent, which kinda pioneered the "fast paced gameplay switches" style.
Imo the golden is personally one of the best levels to touch the top 3. It is so atmospheric and the darkness really fits the concept it goes for. I can see why people wouldn't like it but I can see it and it is the main reason why I started to like green. Also bloodlust sucks to me. It's way too static and the colours are terrible. It's just bright red. I am ok with dark red( not too dark ) but the brightness is too much. It doesn't have any atmosphere. Extreme Park is a very fun level like many memory demons. Sure it is learny but it's not too much.

Athanatos was top 1 in August 2016-ish. Technically Sakupen Hell was never actually #1 because what happened is it was listed as #2 for a long time (beneath Bloodbath), then both Athanatos and Sakupen were moved above Bloodbath at the same time

I really like Yata tbh. I think it was mainly the verification arc, and how it was passed from around by some of the best players at the time because it was just too hard. It's easy to say in it's unnerfed form its difficulty was way ahead of it's time. Also around that time I started to pay a lot more attention to the community in general, or maybe it's just nostalgia. I also like Athanatos just because I like to watch the waves go squiggly at the end and the song slaps. Same case can be made for artificial ascent, which kinda pioneered the "fast paced gameplay switches" style.

Imo the golden is personally one of the best levels to touch the top 3. It is so atmospheric and the darkness really fits the concept it goes for. I can see why people wouldn't like it but I can see it and it is the main reason why I started to like green. Also bloodlust sucks to me. It's way too static and the colours are terrible. It's just bright red. I am ok with dark red( not too dark ) but the brightness is too much. It doesn't have any atmosphere. Extreme Park is a very fun level like many memory demons. Sure it is learny but it's not too much.

Athanatos was top 1 in August 2016-ish. Technically Sakupen Hell was never actually #1 because what happened is it was listed as #2 for a long time (beneath Bloodbath), then both Athanatos and Sakupen were moved above Bloodbath at the same time
