    Idk if this applies to the katana 15, but the katana 17 I have with the same specs has a lot of fan noise. Even when I don't have anything running. It comes and goes intermittently. The battery life is also abysmal even for a gaming laptop. Moreover, the laptop only comes with a 1080p screen and has okay speakers at best. Other than that, just purely in terms of performance, the machine is a beast.

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  8 месяцев назад +2

      I've honestly only used it for gaming so my fan was consistently running (but I used headphones). Also I agree, this laptop needs a power source to get the best use out of it since it has such power hungry internals! But with all that being said, it was able to handle everything I threw at it!

    Great video it really helps me but is there are ay differences between i7 and i5 with the same laptop ?

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  7 месяцев назад

      Only difference is clock speed. So the i7 would be able to put out more power than the i5. Both are good for gaming (i7 would be better)

    I have the Katana with the i5 chip instead of the i7. Around the same price buying it from Newegg. Oddly, this one lacked the mouse, though not really complaining as since I travel a lot, a traditional mouse doesn't function very well and a wireless trackball mouse is not very expensive at all (plus I bought both at the same time). The trackpad on mine actually is decently built and handles the pressure better than your model. It's handled a few small bumps along the way and one or two "I hope the screen survived" moments. No damage and performs awesome. I've ran a PS3 emulator on it for like 3 days straight (Gran Turismo 5 B-Spec endurance racing) and it never gave a fuss pulling that kind of load against the GPU and CPU. The only thing I have issue with is Sim City 4 absolutely refuses to boot on this laptop but will boot on my desktop (which uses an 11th gen chip and I think the 12th gen chip bricks the game).
    Overall, I absolutely love this laptop and it has definitely proved it's worth to me and definitely recommend it if it fits in the budget. It also isn't overly noisy, even when gaming, at least to me, though I do have some loud speakers hooked to it so it easily drowns out the noise.

    • @hartomethod

      Just looked at the g15 on dells website. The pricing is really close. For the $1,349 model you’re getting essentially the same system but a display that supports more features (like 360Hz). I’d say the decision for me would come to pricing. If the katana is cheaper at the time of buying, I might go with that. Both look like “gaming” laptops so it’s an equal playing field.

    Just got one with a 4070 and 32gigs of ram and otherwise I think we have the same thing. So far.... It's fine. I paid 1500 on a tax free week in my state so it's fine. My desktop has a 1070Ti and i7-7700k so its quite the upgrade on that front. Plus I've had some problems with the desktop completely shutting down under heavy loads so I'm not sure what's going on with that but hopefully I'll be using this mostly for rendering/editing 4k video without having shut-downs ruin my entire workflow. Ran hogwarts legacy on ultra settings for about 4 hours and didn't have a single frame drop. Hard to complain when the desktop can't run it on the lowest settings without crashing the whole thing.
    So far it's been nice to use... even though it's been just a few hours. All in all- no ragrats (so far)

      @@Kenny0215 well, I won't be getting it until mid month of October but i9 has more cores, threads and higher maximum operating frequencies which will allow your PC to run faster than i7. I'm gonna be mainly using it for song production which is CPU demanding and better CPU would cut sound latency issues. GPU wise, 4070 obviously is better than 4060 by what I would think is 25-30% in gaming performance. I only play Dota 2 so I probably won't be needing a higher GPU.

    I have been thinking about buying the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (2023) with Intel Core i7-12700H and 8GB RTX 4060(140W). The pricing is 1,410 $. Do you think it's worth it?

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  Год назад +2

      I think the tuf is potentially a better choice due to the 140W option it has. You’ll get great performance from both so it comes down to what you’ll be playing. Being able to use more power is always good. That being said. The katana was $1200 and if you find it for that price or cheaper, you can always over clock it

  • @JH-vb1wo

    I got this for 1200 at Walmart yesterday I was wanting a different laptop but they didn’t have any in stock. I thought about going with a 900 dollar desktop but I wanted to change it up and it’s nice being able to move where I game as sometiems a gaming chair will kill my back. Older mmos I play work super smooth and I even played destiny 2 with the graphics up really high and it worked good the only time I get small lag is if I try running something in the background when there is a lot of things going on in destiny 2. But for gaming or browsing it’s really good and this is really all you need. I would only go with better specs if your a content creator or a streamer. Average joe you will be happy with this

    I chose the GE76 Raider 11th gen 3070 but it was stolen. Now I'm looking to replace it, with this & from what I've seen of your Battlefield gameplay, it looks like it's a certainty now. Thank you! MSI Control Panel, has different power modes. When playing, I would crank that as it changes to fan and voltage, basically overclocking it for "Performance Mode", the Turbo was too noisy on the GE76 and can only imagine, MSI's fan curves won't have changed much. Another point, at release of the z390 for i9-9900k all MSI boards, were by default overclocked. I've got an MSI MEG Z390 Tomahawk and it screams... because it's overclocked by default.

      I think they’re both pretty decent and similar. The CPU are essentially the same in terms of performance.
      The only think you should consider is that the ASUS only comes with 8GB of RAM and 512 SSD where as the MSI comes with double that. Not the biggest deal because you can always upgrade but it would be an additional step.

    i don't have long school days and i'm bringing the charger with me. i want the laptop mainly for gaming and less for school. how long does the battery last when not gaming just browsing and in documents? i'm buying the MSI Katana 15 B12VFK-1231NL. it has a rtx 4060, i7 12650h, 16gb memory and 1 tb storage. do you know the srgb % on it?

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  11 месяцев назад

      I honestly haven’t tested the laptop off battery and I primarily used it for gaming. I’d think if you’re using it for moderate tasks it should last more than a few hours. I don’t know the srgb but in person the screen looks fine. Colors are present but definitely don’t pop as much as a 1440 screen would.

    Would like to see you run it on your external monitor as well.. I have a two-year-old MSI with a RTX 3060 32 gigs Ram. When playing Resident Evil 2 Remake It barely holds 60 FPS throughout the whole game.. Your MSI 4060 seems the average 99 FPS, so itdefinitely a good upgrade for the price.. Also I think you'll find the RTX 4070. Is just a couple of $100 more in a laptop with about a 15% to 25% higher in frames Rate's. Not to go off topic, But it might be a good review in the future... Either way, great video, good job, thank you😅

    I'm glad you're broke out the HP omen I have a high-end gaming PC at home but when I travel I wanted something better than HP Omen I have I don't know if it's the same model or not but mine is the one that has the 7700hq and the 1050 t.i. Mobile in it but I upgraded it to 16 gigs of RAM.
    I was looking into getting the katana so maybe you can help shed some light on this for me assuming you have the same HP Omen I do. How much better or worse is the display on the katana compared to the HP omen and what are your thoughts on the upgrade was it a big difference the one I'm looking at has the 4070 in it with the 13620h cpu. Thanks for your time and thank you for uploading this video

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  Год назад +1

      My Hp omen has a 960 in it but I think the rest of the spec are similar to your model. There is 100% a difference between your model and the 4070 katana. If you find a good deal on it I think it’s very very worth it. You’ll find it faster and more optimized in every way.
      With that being said, the screen won’t be that much of an upgrade unless you get a 1440 screen panel. I hope this helped!

    • @magman687
      @magman687 Год назад +1

      @hartomethod thank you and yes that helped.
      I won't be getting it right now but around the Christmas time so hopefully by then I'll be able to find a good deal of 100 or $200 off.
      The reason why I wanted your opinion on the screens is because even though the HP Omen we both have isn't really all that great of a screen I can honestly live with it. So as long as the screen is at least a little bit better I'm okay with it. the hardware performance as far as CPU and GPU are going to be hands down better.
      Like I said my main gaming is going to be on my home PC which is awesome but when I'm out of town for work I want something that I can still play Warzone and a few other games on.
      Also if I'm going to be at a specific hotel for a week or so I can just bring one of my secondary gaming monitors with me since obviously I won't be using it at home anyways I have a nice 1080p 144 Hertz Monitor and a 1440p 144hz LG ultragear to choose from LOL.
      After hearing that if there's anything you feel I should know please let me know and thank you again for the response

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  Год назад +1

      I haven’t tried running warzone on my hp omen but I can assume it’ll chug pretty hard with my 960. I’d recommend trying to run it on your laptop and if it works then dope. Having an external monitor will make the experience better. I used the Katana while hooked up to an external 1440 monitor and it was awesome.
      Again, if it’s a secondary device, I wouldn’t make it a priority (unless you’re traveling a lot). If you do end up running warzone, let me know how it does!

    • @magman687
      @magman687 Год назад +1

      @hartomethod keep in mind that mine is the 1050 t.i. mobile model which oddly enough I believe it is the only mobile variant of a GPU to ever perform better than the desktop variant for some reason but it is in fact a little bit faster than the desktop version. And I ran the original Warzone on it a few times and it will technically run it however it is so sluggish and the response time is awful.
      It will get around 30 maybe even 40 FPS if I remember correctly however the response time is absolutely awful you can move the mouse and it takes about a quarter second maybe longer for it to actually show that movement on the screen.
      That's not the displays fault it's just how poorly the hardware itself handles that game LOL.
      So even though it technically plays the game it's something you don't want in a shooter that requires fast reaction time.
      And because of that the game was completely unemployable.
      Also considering the price I had a similar thought as you did ( since it's not my main gaming rig and only for when I occasionally travel it might be worth picking up as a good budget mid-range gaming PC)

    I just bought it. Can you tell me how long the battery lasts when Idle ? I think mine is not normal, its decreasing 1% every 1 minute.

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  Год назад

      That is not normal. Have you tried changing the battery life settings to see if that does anything? I usually keep mine plugged in but decreasing 1% while not gaming shouldn’t be happening

    have you tried the type c ? can u use it for dp port? i had this laptop but as sooon as plug it in to monitor said no signal, is it because my dp cable and dp monitor doesn’t match? my dp cable is higher version than the minitor port.. howeverr i tried it on other laptop it does work

      I don’t believe you can use the usb-c to dp port. It may work if you connect there usb-c to a hub/dock and then run a DP from that to the Monitor? Again, I never tried it so I can’t guarantee, sorry

      There’s a bracket that msi sells that you can order and install. Honesty, I think creating some type of support bracket on your own would be less of a headache.

    How’s the battery life? Amazon prime day has i7-13620H, 4070, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD at $1200. Worth? Thinking of taking this to college so if the battery life sucks then I might skip out

    • @hartomethod
      @hartomethod  10 месяцев назад

      That’s a pretty great price. For daily tasks I don’t think the battery will die that fast, I’d say more than 3 hours. You could also use the mux switch to switch integrated graphics so the 4070 doesn’t use up much battery.
      If you want something for productivity primarily then I’d get something else. But this is overall good if you plan on gaming

      If you’re wanting portability I’d recommend the asus zephyrus g14. There are 3060 models under $1100
