- Cornell changed his block on Skid Row when he moved onto it. Almost immediately, his sunny outlook warmed his neighbors both on the street and inside businesses, adding a measure of optimism to an otherwise rough neighborhood.
A constant source of compliments and well-wishes, Cornell's positive attitude extends far beyond the dire conditions he faces living on the street homeless in Los Angeles. Outgoing and social, Cornell is a friend to the folks who run the nearby taco trucks and warehouses and makes himself available for work wherever and wherever needed.
At night, he sleeps in a tent on Skid Row, where any number of threats live just outside his unlocked nylon zippered door. Waking up in the morning on a few hours rest, with all the embedded trauma that living on the street entails, Cornell manages a smile and sets out to find purpose.
While he struggles to get housing, the routine of work and the power of community offers some comfort for Cornell. Unfortunately, the work is never full-time and often sporadic, and while the money helps, it’s not nearly enough to cover rent and basic living costs in one of America’s most expensive cities.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.

I find it fascinating how people go on about their lives in Skid Row. It’s become the most feared places over the past several years, but not all people walking around have malicious intentions. Some are generous, kind, and insightful. Thanks for this video. May God bless you.

Yes. Alot of people who have little or nothing give more of themselves than any amount of money could ever buy! His smile should make others feel better, it's as Beautiful as him!
Skid row is such a strange place, so much darkness but people like this who are so positive and amazing.
My date and I were headed to a death metal show Friday and we met Cornell along the way. He was super friendly and gentle. I slid him a $20 and a little later I asked him where I could buy a quick beer. He said, “I’ll go get it!” and ran off. He returned with a beer for me and I said, “Cornell! Did you just take that 20 I gave you and buy me a beer?!” And he got this little boyish guilty look indicating he did. I was moved. I proceeded to throw him another bill and told him I’d look him up and here I am! What a gem. 💎

It saddens me that so many people are without a roof over their heads in this day and age.
In LA, there are too many people. That is the problem. Also, he can get housing but homeless people don't like to abide by the rules that come with it.
@@jimcarrington6744 you didn't do anything for me, go back to your hole. I said, alot of homeless can get public housing. There's a bunch of programs in LA, but it's either full or they don't last because of the rules that come with it. And no, I deserve the life I've been given because I earned it. I worked, started with nothing and now I own a home. I did what I had to do.

Often times when you pray God hears the faithful intercessor prayer warrior. By being obedient to God in prayer HE will place it on someone heart to help others! A prayer to God Almighty will get HIS ATTENTION and than He will use whoever HE SO CHOSE to assist HIS CHILDREN!!! How he smiles so effortlessly I really admire that. I’ve never been a person to smile much, and when I’m having troubles the thought of smiling occurs to me even less. Obviously I don’t know this Man’s whole story or what he may be feeling in his heart, but he’s Proof Positive that **No matter what your circumstances are** you can still muster a smile and give a pleasant greeting to those you meet 💜

Wonderful view into this man’s life. Thank you for creating this and I hope to see more of these stories turn around for the better. It’s a wonderful view yet I’m still left with a feeling that I wish this person wasn’t going through this. Perhaps just my perspective, and perhaps Smiley is truly happy. But as he mentioned, I know he’d be happier to have a roof over his head. I hope he gets there one day. With that attitude he has on life and the world I know only good things can come for him. You’re spot on about it all. It’s great that he’s making the best of it, but he should not be sleeping in a tent. That emotion we hope will lead people to push policies to help homeless people
yeah - it seems like such "an easy fix".... yet unsheltered persists. I guess as long as there is greed, lack of political will, etc. I really hate this situation that some people are in😢

When I was homeless 7 years in Santa Cruz CA. @ 42 years of age... Thought I made poor choices that got me there I understood it was 90% My Outlook & Attitude and the other 10% was going to be the introduction of a Darkside I never met🗝️❣️👑🗡️😇
I pray for all those who need a home and a place to call their own and belonging and community and to have people around who care about you,we all need this.Its not just about having a physical home but a community too and those who notice of you are there or not.Wr live ina world where people do not even notice others or pay attention or see a human being,all people see now it what job you do or how much money you earn...the lack of basic humanity around is astounding

What I do not understand is why homeless people stay in California. It is such an expensive place to live making it that much more difficult to get out of homelessness.
I could be wrong, but I believe that New Mexico is quite a bit cheaper. Arizona, where I live, is definitely better too.

It's because there is more traffic and money to be given to them. Better weather and city life which is what they're looking for. They want access to all the amenities that comes from LA.

i love walking through the fashion district and even skid row at night. so much different than during the day. most people have closed up shop and gone home by then, but then its all quiet and you get to see the folks that wander about and live down there. most of them are really just trying to survive and are usually minding their own business. i hope we can create more change that will help those who are most vulnerable.

Society has let these people down. It is not surprising that they rely on their own community. They are good neighbors on Skid Row who could be if they had a community of houses instead of tents.
