I have owned and used this camera for 7 months now and I agree with everything you mentioned. But to use the cameras highest quality settings the camera needs at least 1,500 MB’s at the camera itself other wise you will need to lower it’s quality settings. But to be fair there isn’t much quality difference between its 1080 or its 720 settings. The bracket is something Reolink needs to address I ended up ordering the same mount that is used on their solar panel for mounting under my eve. It works great with no vibrations from the wind. Reolink knows about this issue but it seems as though they expect its customers to just accept the cameras sub par universal bracket. At one point when I asked about the issue with this mount I was told their engineers were working on a new design but later on I read that apparently from what they had told some of their customers basically live with it. They also are aware of a weak signal at the camera effects the cameras performance but apparently have also decided its customers should simply live with it. I own 2 other non PTZ cams made by that that arre about 25 foot further away yet they don’t have this reduced picture quality issues. Thank You
Recently purchased the Argus PT with solar panel. Very impressed with the unit. Only thing I was not impressed by was the plastic wall mount a bit flimsy. I had a metal mount from a fake camera I used and it worked great. The camera has very good video quality and the PTZ feature is awesome. Installing the camera and solar panel went smooth no problems. Setting up on my network no problem. I have another model Reolink that I have had for about a year it works great also. Be patient getting your sensitivity settings to minimize false alerts...watch limbs, leaves and things that move in the wind. Avoid setting where people walk directly into the camera. Angle it some so objects move across the sensor. I recommend this camera.
The antenna is outside for better range. It is Reolink's software that creates the drift that the camera has when it is told to pan or tilt. I have used other software with Reolink cameras, and there is NO drift when panning or tilting. I think they need to address this and other issues, which they don't seem to want to.
Just ordered one of these, it was on sale and with your coupon code I got a even better deal. Thanks for the review. I do have a full camera setup on my house but have been having theft issues towards the end of my property where my cameras are very clear at night time due to the distance. Hoping this will give me a advantage being there with now power.
Nice job. Good and thorough. I just received one of these. The mount has been redesigned and seems much more stable. I have a question. If a person wants, can they buy a power cable to plug into the house 120 v power and deliver the power to the camera? Do they make a cable for this purpose? Maybe you can find a link to it! Thank you, Tom
Thank you Tom! Reolink unfortunately doesn’t make their own power adapter, but I’ve used this one in the past that just plugs into an outlet and it works great! amzn.to/3d0hIQH You can also just use any micro usb & power brick to keep the battery charged, they don’t have anything weird going on with protocols or something like that
Do you think the wifi signal would work with it being used as an overnight camera on the dashboard of my car in the driveway. 20 feet between camera and router.
Hey Jerry! I have no doubts that the camera would work in that scenario. In my case, the camera was at least 100ft from the nearest access point. So, you shouldn’t have to worry.
Great video and thank you for this. Is there please any wireless (and plugged in or wire free) outdoors camera who supports Continuous Video Recording (24/7) saved inside the camera on Micro SD card, without having to pay monthly for nonstop recordings in the cloud ? I think Reolink Argus Eco and so on can do it only for motion and sound-triggered recordings.
The app icon says "PTZ", but in two video's I've seen on the camera, no one has tried the "Z" or Zoom. The name of the camera is just PT, so is the "PTZ" in the app just a flaw?
I just bought this camera and like it but do wish it had preset locations as you mention. They have another camera that does. Hopefully that will be added in the future.
It's a neat little camera BUT: 1.) Why have a camera with a solar panel and not have it able to run 24/7? It times out after 1 minute and logs off there's no way to change that to something reasonable like 30 minutes or even 5 (or 2). Yes, it's motion activated but what if you're monitoring your kids at the pool or checking to see if someone doing a job on your property isn't messing it up? If we're living in an age where solar panels are connected to inverters/regulators and can power houses then why can't Reolink power a camera from 6-8 hours of sunlight? They should at least make a solar panel with a large battery under it that it senses is there when connected and 24/7 is possible. Also, I recently bought two of this model (Argus PT) and it's good but has this problem. And I also bought 2 of the Argus Pro mode 2 years ago (all with solar panels) and hooked it up with the solar panel and made sure the protective boot was secure and in month one of using it during a hard rain it died. After examination I could see there was a short between to pins on the connector. I wondered how water proof it was with an opening for the mic/sprk? Did water get in there and short something? Well, either way they died. Forgot after 2 years that these buggers time out after 1 minute and I can't watch longer without relogging in again. Bites the cherry weasel. Keep that in mind when buying.
Yeah, I really wish they had a constant recording camera. That is it’s one biggest drawback! All they need to do is slap something like a smartphone battery in these (that have all day battery life) and then they’d be set - but they think motion capture is cooler 😒
Dude, when you share access to the camera, do they get same control privileges as you? Like can they also pan, zoom and tilt the camera independently? Thanks!
when you play back on this can you use the zoom like let's say night vison something happens at 2am can you go back to that time and zoom in onto an event ?? and also how does it read license plates as well
Yes, you can digitally zoom into a motion event upon playback in the Reolink app. It’s very easy as well! Just pinch to zoom. I’m not sure how well it picks up license plates because how I have my PT placed us looking at the front of cars that come into the driveway. I’ve been very pleased with how good of quality it is though. You can recognize faces that are are around 35-45ft away and still get a good look further away than that, just with shadows around the eyes starting to take over.
Set it up out side to test the distance's it start recording or alerts. Do it at like 8 ft high to 12 ft to 16 ft 20 ft with a marked point for all. I have not seen that done yet. I will subscribe and bet others will if you do this.
I would like to find a video like this for PC applications. The external antenna is great . I can upgrade as desired for distance. Setup not necessarily easy see troubleshooting and then and then and then . Well hope it will recognize the router ..
All nice but how do you program voice alert?? Two way communication is almost IMPOSSIBLE due to speaker being to quiet (set up on the app to the max) then the camera's microphone is too sensitive it picks up telephone conversation from about 20 feet away but if you speak through the app the person outside has to be 10 inches from the speaker to make up what are you saying between the static and your voice. TOTALLY USELESS at this point.
Yes, it can connect to any WiFi router. Make sure you have 2.4Ghz enabled if you only have 5Ghz enabled. This camera can only connect to 2.4Ghz WiFi bands. Also, do not have “combine 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz networks” enabled (where the router has the 2.4Ghz&5Ghz networks named the same and your device changes between them as necessary.
If you have the solar panel, I have not had an issue with the battery getting below 90% with heavy usage since it keeps trickle charging the battery! From 0%>100% charging with just a regular wall wart and cable, it only takes MAX 2hrs I would say. Likely shorter.
Hey bro I have a question. When I’m home the motion sensor detects the movements and send me a notification, When Ieave the house it doesn’t send me notifications anymore but when I log in I can still see the camera
I agree, it’s definitely pretty annoying that Reolink doesn’t have a singular camera that is completely wireless like this that is capable of 24/7 recording or even recording continuously during the day and then motion-based at night. Hopefully as their cameras evolve, they’ll release a camera with these capabilities!
@@carsonmtech I have no idea why you would want continuous recording, since that would give you far more video to search through than motion detection.
then get a wired. anything that operates on battery, any brand, will not have continuous recording, as the battery will drain down. i was hoping the solar panels you can get with these overcome that, but they dont, apparently the small panel just recharges the battery (and possibly if you use it a lot, the battery will still deplete faster than the panel can recharge) but it still acts like a battery cam. i was told on reddit that the panels and batteries would need to be very large to allow 24/7 recording.
I bought one of these cameras and sent it back for a refund, as despite it being only 12 feet away from my Netgear ORBI RBK50 mesh Wi-Fi router (which has a 4,000 square feet range) it kept on dropping out and would intermittently stream or fail to connect altogether whenever I tried to access it via the app or my PC. Incidentally, I have 2 other Ring cameras in my garden, sited further away than where I mounted this device, and they work perfectly. So, my advice would be to avoid this camera altogether, unless you plan on sticking it to the side of your wireless router where you may have some chance of it actually working properly. totally useless!
I own this camera but will not recommend it. The battery cannot be charged enough during the winter days and you cannot replace the battery because is not replaceable. After a week testings and checks by Reolink remote support and some negotiations they finally agree to replace the camera but on my own post expenses. They are around more than half of the price of the camera. I will definitely not recommend this camera at all. Look at their other models or better other brand.
why dont you recommend something specific instead? oh right because nothing is better lol for a similar cost. i hate when ppl just say "other brands offer more" or something. BE SPECIFIC. WHAT OTHER BRAND AND EXACT MODEL. The reason you didnt specific a model is because there isn't one. Reviewers do this all the time in order to tear down a product they are biased against. They will say "oh such and such offers more" then if you go back to the review of the product in question, they disliked that one too!
