I had a lot of respect for you up until about 21:15. Now I'm worried about your sanity. Amanda: "Where are your dangleberries?" Gavin: "Oh, they won't come back out til Spring."
Hey just wanted to say how much I love your channel. I’ve been working my way through your older videos and watching your videos just makes me unreasonably happy. Your sense of humour is endearing, your work is wonderful, and watching you and your wife is heartwarming.
I can't even imagine trying to focus on a composition after walking through waist deep freezing water in the middle of winter. I admire you Gavin, for your dedication to the getting the ultimate shot!
Gavin Hardcastle, you with out a doubt are a funny dude, your so called average disaster images are the photographs that I could only hope for in my photography. Love your videos, can't wait till a new one comes out each time!!!
I once was photographing dippers in the River Derwent. The birds were that little bit too far away. It was early morning with no-one about so I thought I would strip off everything below my waist and wade to a better location. A couple of minutes in the water and I was in an ongoing two small frozen garden peas and a tiny chipolata situation. I got my pictures and retreated under the fortunately wrong impression that things would never get back to normal and the complete numbness would be permanent. I was getting dressed and saw a woman walking a dog in the distance and was afraid that if she had a magnifying glass she could have complained about indecent exposure. I dressed and quickly exited stage right. So when Gavin went in over his waist it brought the pain right back. I can honestly, genuinely say I felt his pain then.
Man, I really felt it when the shot in the end didn't turn out as expected. But I must say after going through THAT and having to hike two hours back with soaked clothes and completely shrunk testicles, I'd certainly give you the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021 trophy for the effort alone (if I had a say in it)! Maybe it's still worth noting though that you were able to do this cause you know the area and and so on and that another (sane) person should never ever get into icy waters, especially when hiking alone! Stay safe Gavin! Amazing video and I really do appreciate all the work you put into this.
To be honest, I was quite pleased (laughed myself to tears) seeing the final result. I think I would have rolled my eyes if it was another video of a photographer doing all these crazy things and getting THE shot. I don’t know if we’re not doing a disservice to you by giving you positive feedback on this dangerous lunacy, but it was comedic genius!
23:04 Doesn't this shot mean you went through the freezing water to place the camera, then back to get the shot of you wading through? Absolute madman.
I am glad that I am sitting here in my warm armchair, with a cup of coffee and enjoying this beautiful but cold natural spectacle from a safe distance.😂👍
To be considered the best you need to realize how far that extra mile is. This man goes the extra ten miles, at an vertical incline, some of the private photos he got from this trekk are outstanding. And no iPhone photo will EVER EVER EVER do it justice. Im inspired by you and your fiance/wife. Ive learned what the meaning and purpose of photography is
You honestly deserve a good scolding, but man, I'm honestly just relieved you survived. All alone, deep in the woods, no proper dry protection... man...
Tremendous video. That's commitment. Thanks for all the efforts. It was worth it. 😉 very entertaining. Vancouver island is a gem. Perfect nature. I cant wait to see what's coming next.
Well, that was a heart stopper.......but geez!!!!! soooo entertaining. Still have tears of laughter from the chipmunk voice. Seriously though, please don’t be so foolhardy in future Gavin. No photo is worth that kind of risky caper you put yourself through. We need you around to continue to enjoy your amazing photo vlogging.
Lady Amanda looked outside and said no, too cold. She is one wise woman. I must thank you for going way beyond to get that photo!!! And for helping me understand frozen assets. No frostbite here, we're British.
You are dedicated i will give you that.. I laughed at your misery in that water but did feel for ya going through all that and not getting the shot its a bummer it happens to the best of us. It just shows even the best can have bad days 😉 thanks for the lessons and laughs!!
The photo might not be one of the best technically, but this photo will always make you smile just for the story behind it. It's such memories that make photography so special. Unfortunately a plain picture rarely tells what someone had to do to get the shot. So I think it was worth the photo, even if it's just for memories.
Hilarious! There is something very funny when you see "others" go through pain (but, knowing they will be "fine"!) So, this was that moment! I lost it when you change your voice, great job. But, understanding what goes BHS or what you had to do for that deep water walk. You are very determined and thank you so much for the entertainment and great tips.
Waiting to see some cable channel to pick you up, it will be well deserved. 5 stars, above & beyond !!! Although I might think about a wet suit for the next adventure like this one. 😉😉😉
And I thought you had had a mishap, when this was total sheer self induced madness! Kudos for maintaining humour, entertainment and education whilst completely hypothermic.
What is most painful that you actually had to do the river crossing twice each time to be able to film your self crossing and then come back get the camera, great video keep up the great work.
As I always tell everyone, beautiful photos are not easy to take. At least in Russia, this always happens through some kind of overcoming of difficulties. So, in this video I see an ordinary day of a Russian photographer)))
Dastardly and Muttley medal of honour due for this one I'd say. Definitely a Yorkshire man's attitude to life. Hope you got back safely without frostbite. It did remind me of that sketch " The Three Yorkshire Men" I can remember gettin up at half past yesterday, walking 17miles up a glacier fighting of cougars and bears with a broken Osmo. Only to find a pool of ice eating me knackers. Cheers loved it. 📷👣
Hi Gavin, I love to follow your adventures, my husband is the photographer in our family but I find myself captivated by your expertise & the way you share it. My husband has already ordered your book & we are looking forward to receive it. Hope you didn't suffer from hypothermia, am sure Amanda helped warm you up. Looking forward to your next adventure. Thank you for the laughter.
Gavin, you handsome bastard, you. Thank you for a 30 minute video! I'm sure it can be a pain to record and edit in the long run, but I greatly appreciate your company for my coffees, and sometimes short videos just don't cut it.
I know it takes sacrifice to get shots most people don't get however this video seems like an example of what not to do unless you are fully prepared. And in this case, it doesn't seem like you were. Appreciate the effort, hope you stay safe and healthy.
If it was easy everyone would have shots like these- never easy when one chooses to not pursue “average”! If you don’t give it a go you never know what you may have come away with- Well done!
I enjoyed the video knowing you made it out. It also makes one think about the dangers we ignore when we get too focused on the goal. A few inches difference and you are impaled on a piece of rebar on a deserted trail in the cold, slip in the stream and knock your head on the way down and we don’t get to enjoy Phototripper anymore. I have a few good stories myself about surviving risks taken, stories that make me shake my head but yet I take pride in at the same time. Keep up the good work on this channel and take care of yourself!
I really love your vlogs but this was your BEST EVER epic episode ever. Keep safe however. Looking forward to next weeks episode. Greets from Belgium. Alain
I had to stop at 23.38 mark! I was laughing so hard! I really do hope the raisin twins come back down for you! I know that you do a lot of acting in your skits but the look of pure freezing cold "blue balls" on your face was truly not something an actor could do! I hope Amanda helped warm you up or at the very least laughed at your misfortune! I love the "Please like and subscribe" at the end! Thank you and well done Gavin! Even though you went through a terrible experience we can all say we love your commitment to us and your work.
I get a kick out of watching your videos. I love your humor throughout many adverse situations. I appreciate your willingness to share your expertise. Your attitude toward photography and your keen wit inspires me to get my old butt off the couch and do more photography! Would you be so kind as to share what camera backpack you were lugging around in this video?
Achievement 'Blue Plums' unlocked. You have to admit, that was pretty risky all by yourself. We all love your videos but please don't take insane risks just for content. We'd all miss you too much!
So I watched this spectacle twice ..the second time I watched it with pink floyds dark side of the moon as audio It is epic! thanks for the fun sir! be safe! and no I wasn't stoned .
Another great video ! Beautiful locations and great tutorial, not to mention the hilarious narration. Hope you warmed up eventually !! thanks for make me laugh !!!
Well I've finally done it. The Fototripper marathon is over. Three weeks of photo adventures and pure entertainment. I'm glad I've found your channel, but what shall I watch now. You raised the bar really high. When is the next video coming?
Only thing that would have made that better would have been getting to that last spot, only to find Adam Gibbs already getting the shot.
And dry.
😁😆😅🤣😂
Because he was wearing his new waterproof fishing outfit he so often talks about😂
@@VictorPVetra brutal 🤣😬
Hahaha this thread of comments is amazing.
Now that's a commitment to the craft, balls of steel Gavin, balls of steel.
And mashed potatoes for brains....but enjoyed it very much.....😂
Where was my buddy to save me eh?
You should have been there to save Gavin from himself! 😀😀😀
@@fototripper F&%K that! I'm not wading in there, not without a floatation device and a dram.
Icy balls of steel 🤔
Meanwhile Heaton can't deal with being on a beach when it's windy and snowing. :)
OMG wonder what Amanda thought about it. But your the only Landscape photographer I keep on watching over and over
I had a lot of respect for you up until about 21:15. Now I'm worried about your sanity.
Amanda: "Where are your dangleberries?"
Gavin: "Oh, they won't come back out til Spring."
That was SO worth it. My favorite landscape video this year!! Thanks for freezing your nuts for us.

Bear bloody Grylls wouldn’t have gone through that river !!!
Brilliant stuff 👏👏

If ever a landscape photography video deserved a like and a subscribe, it's this one. Bravo mate.
I expect when your mother sees what happened, you'll be getting a phone call !!
This is why you buy the book, watch the channel and put another log on the fire. Dude, I don't envy your lower regions at all!
Halfway through this video I had to put a hot water bottle between my legs. I swear I was shivering too. Awesome stuff Gavin. Dedicatione!

" No photograph is worth this " is the perfect title. My thoughts are with Amanda right now. 💛
Tresmendous. Nice of you to put your life on the line for our entertainment.
Wow that’s dedication! It was so cold that it wasn’t just your nads changing color, your coat kept changing color too. 😭

No doubt...this is crazy. Keep this up and we'll be reading your obit. Not good man. Reckless.
I would have given anything if, at 23.52, Adam Gibbs was sitting on a log, eating a sandwich, having just finished taking a photo.
That would have been hilarious. Alas, he seems to be too busy for Fototripper these days...
Tremendous video. That's commitment. Thanks for all the efforts. It was worth it. 😉 very entertaining. Vancouver island is a gem. Perfect nature. I cant wait to see what's coming next.
