So How Good are Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Operations?

  • We're timing Busch Gardens dispatches to see how quick they can send out their trains! Now obviously it's going to vary every time, so this isn't necessarily figuring out the "average dispatch time," we're instead just trying to see how they do when we randomly decide to time them!

    And as I leave, you all come by and do this. Glad to see operations haven't slacked much since I left! Having operated most of these rides, I can say that the park has done a great job keeping the workers safe, while reducing the dispatch times as much as possible. This is why none of the coasters allow bags to be taken in the lines. Of all the rides, Alpie and Griffon both are the slowest, as all of the seats have to be raised and unbuckled prior to locking, making every seat have to be pushed down and buckled up every cycle. This adds loads of time to the dispatches. Adding in the lowering floors slows it down even more. The screens with the harness states and dispatch timers are a recent developments among many tech additions to operations. The coolest is the virtual turnstiles that can be used to count guests without a physical turnstile AND CHECK HEIGHT, using cameras and ultrasonic sensors. Though the height feature has not been perfected yet, virtual turnstiles are in effect at Invadr, Tempesto, Griffon , and the Main Exit. Anyways, the screens first showed up at Griffon last season as capacity was very rough. The park wants to implement these at all of the major attractions. Personally, I hope Mach Tower sees one soon, as it needs it. You all should have timed that crew, but I guarantee you that it is not the crew's fault, just Moser's bad planning. I did not plan for this post to go that long, but I'm glad to see that you are all happy with the crews at the park!

      Jordan Scott I'm not quite sure, but in theory, if dispatching right after the previous train clears the lift, every 1:10, then you could get 52 dispatches in 1 hour. the most I ever saw 48, which is still really good. Griffon is a whole other animal, 40/hour is a big stretch as the floor takes forever to move up and down. Best I ever had was 42 and that was when I staffed each operator position with a person I knew could work hard in that position.

    As a local, (I live 2 minutes from the park), I can tell you, InvadR and Apollo's Chariot definitely feel like the fastest operations. Alpengeist tends to be on the slower side. Also, based on the guests on the rides, the population on that day was pretty average. I went there yesterday and not a lot of people were there. Loch Ness monster differs a lot because sometimes a lot of people ride it and sometimes nobody does. Great video!

  • @TommonSensePro
    @TommonSensePro 4 года назад +4

    4:33 I feel the emptier trains actually would make them dispatch slower. If there are half of the seats are empty, the workers would have to do all the work for putting the restraints and buckle up seatbelts for the empty seats while if they were all full, they would only have to make minor adjustments and make sure it is locked down all the way.

    Lmfao y'all caught me slipping 😂😂😂 at apollo either We was getting off or we was about start bumping people but yeah we have those screens because the managers want us to move a little faster because some coaster take a little longer to dispatch than others so that clock is suppose to help us all but we don't even pay attention to the clock we were pretty fast even before they put the timer up

  • @leejohnson179
    @leejohnson179 7 лет назад +1

    Another measure of operations speed would be from the moment the gates open for one group of riders to the moment the gates open for the next group of riders. This would measure more than employee efficiency. It would tell you the true capacity of the ride and therefore it'd be the best indicator of wait times.

      Taylor says the name just fine. "Alpengeist" may be a name of German origin, but now it's the name for a ride in an American amusement park, so it's going to be Anglicized. Just as when Germans take on names that are American in origin they Germanicize the pronunciation. The established local pronunciation of place names and sites IS the correct pronunciation.

    Well most coasters during operation and if they are running more than one train can not dispatch a train until the computer allows them to , which means a train out on the track has to reach a certain spot or a sensor in order to allow the operator on the control board to dispatch the other train in the station. So in theory you really cant judge the operators who check harnesses on their timing. They still cant dispatch a train until the computer says they can .

And some people are really dumb on Tempesto, but, those wierd vest things are not the park's fault. Ok I sound like a die-hard fanboy lol. God damn it tempesto your restraints are too difficult to pull down. There was only 3 people on the ride and 3 cars, how did you take over a min?

    Since there weren’t as many people in the park I think that Busch gardens did good because the ride operators had to close the restraints themselves
