    Congrats on getting monetized in just 6 months! It was a struggle for me and it too me over a year to do it. I hit the watch hours pretty quickly but it was the sub count that held me back. I have tried to consistently pump out one video a week while maintaining a full time teaching job and it has not been easy at all. Iʻm constantly thinking about the next video but even though itʻs been a grind, it has also been a blast to see people liking our videos and wanting more. Bernie and I canʻt believe that people consistently tune in each week and drop comments on every video. And to see people buying my merch??? Unbelievable! I really resonated with what you said about the friends youʻve made along the way. Itʻs the exact same for us....the new friends Iʻve gained since starting the channel has been incredible and I can honestly say that I feel like I can travel to a large number of places and find people to ride or hang out with because theyʻve watched our videos. Keep doing what youʻre doing as I love going down memory lane with you and your well done and creative videos! Thanks Matt!

      Thanks so much Kevin! I hear you about the difficulty in keeping up with it. It’s definitely a lot of work making videos. But it’s fun. If you’re ever in the St. Louis area, I’d love to ride with you. You and Bernie do great too. And like many other of your viewers, Cruising in the 808 is my favorite BMX-related YT channel… I have local buddies who are into skateboarding, but not really anyone locally to share my love of bmx with. You guys are so laid back/humble/transparent , have fun conversations, go on cool rides, and do cool bike projects. A perfect recipe for engagement, it feels like we’re hanging out with the bros when watching your vids. Again, something I don’t get locally. Hope you keep it up too 👊

    That Mike D metal flake blue Hutch Trickstar has always been my dream bike! Your vids are awesome and although old school BMX is a very niche topic, some of the other 80's content is getting really popular now (video games and computers), but it's always important to do what you enjoy. Keep up the great work

      Yes, that Mike D Trick Star is so classic. I have one of Bill Batchelor’s photo prints of him on that bike up on my wall. 💯 Thanks for the feedback. You have tons of experience making amazing content, so I really appreciate your input here 👊

    Greatly appreciate this behind-the-scenes look! My childhood best friend & I started a music podcast back in March, and we're looking to transition to video after the new year. We haven't monetized the podcast at all (mostly because of low listener numbers 😥). Your video makes me simultaneously excited and anxious for the shift. Thanks again! Love the channel!

    Stumbled on your channel when you done the Kona episode. Although we live on different parts of the world I could relate to you on your skateboarding videos. Never been a bmx guy so don’t always watch them. Keep up the good work. Still look forward to the unedited version of the skateboard museum visit 👊🏻

    I've been at the RUclips game for about 14 yrs, I have 5.93K followers, 4,000+ videos and last time I saw my total videos have gotten over 10 million views since the beginning but I've never thought about trying to make money because I started out by uploading a bunch of late 90's - early 2000's Christian punk band's then a bunch of 90's punk bands i was listening to back then. Eventually as my son, brother, and I started playing music i started uploading that and then I would add more punk band's i was discovering. Since most of the music wasn't mine I didn't think i should be making money off of it. I have noticed that I've been getting a lot of ads on my videos in rhe last couple of years 🤔🤔

    • @TheNostalgicNeighborhood
      @TheNostalgicNeighborhood  8 месяцев назад +1

      Very interesting. That makes sense about only wanting to make money from things you feel responsible for creating. Obviously, I’m no expert since I’m relatively new, but once you get monetized, you have the ability to choose which videos are monetized. So you could leave that disabled for the old stuff and only turn it on for your newer content. Either way, thanks for chiming in and sharing your thoughts. 👊

    @SeanLewisMedia 8 месяцев назад +2

    Awesome breakdown! We both got monetized around the same time and its cool to see the slight differences in ad rev and the way it works. Its definitely a challenge more so now than before for me, when it comes to planning content with monetization as a factor now. Just need to stay true to our passions and encourage people to join along for the ride while we learn to make better videos:) Good luck with everything!

    • @TheNostalgicNeighborhood
      @TheNostalgicNeighborhood  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Sean. You do a great job with your content. I think you summed it up well about staying true to our passions, and letting the rest follow from there.
      Glad you found the breakdown interesting. It seems so many who have made this kind of “how much I made” video had some sort of viral moment that kicked off their momentum and they reveal that they are making hundreds/thousands per month. I think my trajectory might be more typical for a lot of channels with a similar approach. Thanks for sharing your insights. 👊
