GT Bikes: Surely, They're Not Really Done? Let's Talk About It
Is GT really shutting down, or is this just another chapter in their long and storied history? In this video, we dive deep into the recent news about GT pausing operations, laying off employees, and clearing out inventory. We'll reflect on GT's legacy in BMX and mountain biking, their iconic bikes like the Pro Performer and Zaskar, and some of the controversial models that might have contributed to their current situation.
I’ll also share some parts I recently picked up during their clearance sale, including Power Series cranks, Mallet stems, and more, plus a fun unboxing story that brought back childhood memories of opening bike parts for Christmas.

Eddie Fiola’s UNRIDEABLE BMX Bike - Reverse Steering

What happens when you take a BMX bike and reverse its steering? BMX legend Eddie Fiola showed us just that with his “unrideable” bike at the Rad movie event in Texas. Turn left, the wheel goes right-it’s a total mind game! While Eddie could (sort of) handle it, the rest of us struggled to make it five feet without tipping over. Is the weather always sunny where you live. Living in the U.K. you are lucky to get a day of sun for skating. Sometimes have to resort to a multi-storey car park to use. Only problem is it has no ramps and bowls.

      I live in Missouri, and while we get a lot of sunny days.., it does rain and the weather varies through the seasons. It can be too cold in the winter and too hot and humid in the summer, but outside of the coldest parts of the winter…. Most of the time, you can usually skate if you want to.

    I started skating in 1985. I had a Tracker Trucks Lester Kasai model. At least I think it was a Lester Kasai because I think he was the only guy who had a deck with Tracker which obviously primarily made trucks. The board was used and the graphics were sanded off except Tracker logo. In my neighborhood Tracker was the king of trucks. We watched Animal Chin everyday for like 2 years. But I have to say growing up in Long Beach and then Orange County, skateboarders were not cool, at least not at my school. We were chased by the older jocks, got picked on and had to fight a lot to gain respect. We were outcasts.

    • @TheNostalgicNeighborhood
      @TheNostalgicNeighborhood 3 дня назад

      It’s interesting to hear so many conflicting stories, in some areas like me… it was super trendy at schools and other areas not so much. But no doubt it was popular enough to be capitalized on in a major way by pop culture. I think for my area too, Trackers were more popular than Independent in the mid to late 80s. With Gullwings, Venture, G&S, etc still being fairly common.

For whatever reason I felt it necessary at the time to stare at the front tire the whole time and not where I was going. Long story short I ran into the back of the neighbors pickup. GT needs to hand over the BMX Department to Craig Turner.. Modern Builds with the Old School look and also start making re-issues of the Bikes we Grew up with. Also hire Eddie Fiola for product design and testing and even put him on a Tour with the bikes and Pay the Guy.. That to me is the only way to go.. Back to the Roots of where it started. I really don't see any other way for GT to go and be successful. That is my opinion anyway
