I started following a Korean foodie channel a year ago but until I found this channel recently I would never have dreamed of attempting Korean cooking. But now that I’ve found such a wonderful teacher I will. First I’ll start with something simple. Time to go to find a Korean grocery store!

      Its like your mom asking you option A or B? And when you choose the wrong one she will just say "The other one is better for you. Just pick that one okay?" and you nod and you feel bad and then you hold that anger till it manifests itself when you reach adulthood.

    I don't think everyone realises just how spicy that red pepper paste is. It's not like regular American hot sauces, it's totally different. And she put A LOT in her dipping bowl. She's a strong woman who's used to the spice! c:

    • @JithinJohn074
      @JithinJohn074 9 лет назад +108

      +Tisha Herrera When she used to mention spicy red pepper flakes or the Gochujang i thought it was really spicy.. i am an Indian therefore, a big fan of spicy food and love to try spicy things from other cuisines.. I tried the hot pepper powder and the paste in my cooking.. it is actually mild and even has a mild sweetness to it.. chilli powder from India used in Indian cooking is actually a lot hotter(spicier).. but i guess the heat tolerance must be different for different palates and cultures...

    • @JithinJohn074
      @JithinJohn074 9 лет назад +45

      +Tisha Herrera and aren't american hot sauces mostly sour from the vinegar with a little spice?

    • @tishasomeone9141
      @tishasomeone9141 9 лет назад +9

      Jithin John Woah! Wait, so it's America's spicy food that isn't *that* spicy? I guess. Our spicy food has a kick, but there is a lot of sour bite to it too. So basically, yes. :c You guys must have the spiciest of all foods then. Oh America.lol

    • @JithinJohn074
      @JithinJohn074 9 лет назад +16

      LOL yup ... Indian food in American restaurants isn't spicy because without a warning most americans wouldn't be able to handle the heat :D yes the hot sauces are basically mostly sour and a little spicy.
      Most savoury things in Indian food have spice added to them, and unlike just the heat and the mouth puckering sourness that we usually experience from hot sauces, Indian food has a lot of flavor along with the heat.. and I think my tolerance for heat is very high because our everyday meals are generally spicy :)
      If u can handle the heat, you should try authentic Indian food :)
      and to counteract the heat, our desserts are small and quite sweet :D

    Brilliant way of cooking the egg. Never seen before. Usually you drop the egg in the water and cook it but this is amazing. Saves a lot of resources of using separate pot to make the poached egg. You are an amazing chef.

    I really like it when you talk about your mom. I can tell you one thing about my mom: she always makes me wash vegetables in the packaging, then use the water to water the plants and then you can throw away the packaging and cook the vegetables. So, whenever she starts cooking, she always calls me to open the front door so she can run outside with the dripping vegetables to water the plants. :D

    In 1981 I visited Pusan Korea (twice actually) and being the foodie I've always been I went exploring various restaurants there. Ate stuff I had no idea what they were or even how to make them. some things (Bulgogi for instance) I could make educated guesses and approximate at home. Watching your videos has been like going down memory lane for me. I now know what some of the things I could not identify then are now and better yet I now understand how to make them. Thank you for that.

    사실 잔치국수 같은 건 한국에선 가격도 싸고 하니 집에선 잘 안 해먹었거든요. 집에서 만들면 감칠맛이 잘 안 나던 이유도 한몫 하구요. 근데 이걸 보니까 만들어 먹고싶은 마음이 막 샘솟네요. 특히 저 '김치 페이스트'가 맛을 굉장히 돋궈줄 것 같아요. 좋은 영상 고맙습니다^^

    Hello Maangchi, I found some dried anchovies in an asian store, but it's frozen can I use it for this recipe? 😯

    • @Maangchi
      @Maangchi  5 лет назад +23

      Yes, you can. The anchovies should be stored in the freezer because they are still moist.

    It's so strange when people ask you, why do you rinse your noodles with cold water... even when I make pasta I rinse it with water so it won't get starchy or too soggy. I thought it was something elementary worldwide.

    • @sluskaya
      @sluskaya 9 лет назад +2

      Xinyu Zong I understand. Thank you so much for telling me! :) I live in Israel and as far as I know, everyone else here is rinsing their spaghetti pasta as well. My relatives, who live in Australia also seem to do the same, what lead me to this misconception. The more I know. :)

    • @sluskaya
      @sluskaya 8 лет назад +3

      YoungD3mon314 don't you have anything better to do than trolling strangers on the internet?...

    • @sluskaya
      @sluskaya 8 лет назад +5

      YoungD3mon314 First of all, half of what you were saying is completely rubbish and you would have known that if you were relying on actually accurate sources than whatever you were using?? Secondly, it is trolling since the thread had nothing to do with the issue of Israel-Palestine to begin with, I merely mentioned the country I am from within one of the comments. The video itself, if you might have forgotten, is called "Korean Noodle Soup", not "the Israeli-Palestinian" conflict or whatever. Thirdly, my family is what is you would call Palestinians, we lived in this land for many generations. We just happen to be Jewish but it doesn't make me less native to this land???? Just like many other Jews whose families are living here for hundreds of years???? I seriously don't get your point.

    • @sluskaya
      @sluskaya 8 лет назад +3

      YoungD3mon314 Zionist propaganda? What??? When did I say I was a zionist to begin with? I am not. As I stated and you chose to ignore, I am a native to this country for hundreds of years; call it Palestine or Israel or however, but don't go as low as calling me a zionist because I am not???
      What you're doing is trolling, my friend, since you're going around random videos that have nothing to do with whatever agenda you are representing just to find whatever search words that matter to you only to focus on them instead of the real issue - Korean noodles, in this case. Also, if you really did care so much about people, you would have been going around talking about the Syrian people, who are going through greater sufferings as we sit in our comfortable homes right now, just to raise the awareness to their situation; you would've cried the cry of millions of Afghanis and Iraqis whose life have been turned and ruined by the Americans, who invaded their countries not for democracy as they claimed but for oil; you would've screamed for injustice of women in India who are afraid of reporting of rape, knowing they will fall on deaf ears.
      I know it would sound like I'm belittling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or whatever, but people like you are really getting on my nerves. If you really cared about people, you would've cared about ALL people, and you would have acted instead of wasting your time online telling people like me, who never did anything wrong to you or to anyone else "lol your country isn't real, it's Palestine, not Israel". Whatever, really. I'm living here daily, I know what I am facing and, you know what? I know what I'm worth and I know what I am doing to make the lives of everyone around me, regardless of their origins, better. At least have the honour of practicing what you preach instead of hiding behind virtual masks.
      I'm not going to reply your messages for any longer because I have zero patience for trolls, and it is far too late at night right now, anyway (what only proves me you're a westerner and not even someone who actually lives here/in the Middle East). Take care.
