It is currently being sandblasted primed and a military undercoating. Beautiful truck only has a hundred and twenty thousand miles on it and was well maintained. Only thing lacking is a fresh motor so that we can pull a camper or both spend some time together. This boy has had it rough abandoned by both parents I am all he has. He is definitely a truck nut. Does not realize the project truck is for him. Everything is in blue tones. Just like that small block Ford.

Same for fuel, if you lean it our and no difference you need to add that fuel back in. You did both on this one but didn't show putting it back. I sure hope you put it back to give this motor a chance to stay cooler and live longer.

I'm a Ford guy and this engine wouldn't be a bad street performer but the 302 Ford can make alot more than that. I would love to go on there and show them how to make 450 hp from a 302.

      @mplante7352 3 года назад

      They did a 347" SBF not so long ago and at the 500HP mark they had to go to an aftermarket block so would have made more sense for them to use a 351W based engine if you wanted stock for stock, they would have made over 400HP easily and had more torque to back up the HP. they said the EFI will handle more which is great but if you wanted to do turbo or supercharger then the block becomes the weak link at .060" over i'd pass and used the stock crankshaft another cringe. you can do all of this stuff but does it make sense when your whole foundation for your house is made of popsicle sticks and gorilla glue?

    .060 over! What year is that block? Still running a 594 roller 289 I put together in the 80s. The SB genius at Kirn auto in St Louis, now closed like many shops, took old 70 351 heads, took .040 off, uses Chevy stainless valves he trimed down, 1.64 and 1.90 and did a porting job that rivals today's heads, ported the Edelbrock torker to match, all crower valve train parts, At 10/1 he figured it's around 400+, even has header evac, boss oil pan and windage tray for higher revs. Have a 77 302sb from a 150 that's waiting to be built into?, have a steel boss 302 custom drilled, lightened knife edged crank for a healthy SB to spin things. My old 68 Cougar was reinforced during restoration for some serious torque. Wrinkles the tires as is, they are angry lil engines!

    I used to have a 94 Thunderbird LX V8 I loved. I'd love to find another one and put this engine in it. Should be a fairly easy swap since the earlier ones came with 302's as well (but I don't like the interiors in the pre-94 models)

    I’d happy give your motor a nice home. I’ve located an old Falcon that super clean. The guy who has it tried swapping over to front disc brakes, and couldn’t find anything that would work. I think there’s got to be something available for that. The other thing he did was to put an AMC rear end in it, and I’m not sure that’s the best option. I’d rather have a 9” or 8.8” with rear disc brakes.

    When the 4.2l in my 03 f150 bites the dust I'm thinking about going this route or building a stroked and supercharged 4.2l. Y'all should do a 4.3l stroker build. Super six motorsports has the kits and everything you need

      Whats crazy is the 302 in this episode made less power than the 4.3 stroker v6 with a 600 cfm carb that Super Six dynoed in their video! Less weight, more power! 💪

    When he was explaining that hot oil cold water makes more power and started the pull I smiled just before he did that thing sounded like it was pulling hard and strong and I thought in my head atleast 390hp and maybe 350ft/lb and I was basically right that engine is awesome I hope whomever won it is giving it the lead foot any chance he gets

    Spin that motor to 6800 .....and put some afr renegades with that cam they should be 7k 450 hp sbf

      This. People don't realize not choosing the correct parts that work together and not revving the engine enough can kill horsepower

  • @samuelriester1419
    @samuelriester1419 Год назад

    Love the show! I don't mean this derogatory to you guys. But all I learned from this video is that those performer RPM heads are way out of date and left behind by newer head designs. Pretty much any flat top short block, AFR 185 renegades or trick flow twisted wedge 170 11rs with a comp XE274 HR will make like 430 with a dual plane and simple carb or 450 to 460 with a single plane and 7k RPM. That is just the typical 302 inch small block ford on the street these days, times have changed! I've never seen one done up with nice heads and as fancy of a top end as y'all use. But my guess is it would be pretty epic. I've got one myself with 185 renegades and a dual plane and it straight up rips. That head choice killed the build. The modern head technology is amazing.

    You should do three runs with afr where you want isn’t the ecu going to figure the timing for you and get the most out of it?

  • @mchristr
    @mchristr 2 года назад

    The graph was still climbing when Pat pulled it back. Based on Comp Cam's advertised peak of 6,300 and the torque, the engine should make 425 hp (assuming enough cylinder head flow). Great build with leftover parts.

    Why would you gap the lower ring less than the upper ring? Wouldn’t it need to be gapped more than the upper ring to help prevent excessive pressure between the 2 rings by allowing the blow by to escape?

    I bought the comp xr270rf retro fit kit and got the dog bones and retainers plate. The dog bones actually tap the block making an annoying ticking sound. For 800 bucks from summit, I'd expect to get the same lifters in the kit shown. Otherwise, I like the kit.
