Without question, the best camera work I've seen of removing this module. Glad yours went well. A very common problem with this series GM ABS pump is that the pump runs continuously whether key is on or off. As said previously in this thread it's because the relay contacts are stuck closed. There are several companies that will repair this module, one of them being Module Master for around $130. I've simply had my 60A ABS fuse pulled for the past 16 years on my '01 Tahoe and have had no worries other than BRAKE/ABS lights on the dash are on. Thanks for this video.
In astro vans, front to rear brake proportioning is handled by the ABS pump. By pulling the fuse it sends most fluid to the rear. I am just learning this on my astro. I go through rear brakes every 4 months.
2000 GMC 2500 sudden ABS continuously running even with the key off. No OBD codes shown. Had to pull the fuse. Tried soldering the module board as described but didn't fix it. Then sent it to the Speedometer Repair Guy. 3 days shipping each way and 1 day to rebuild. Money well spent. Fixed.
Great video. For the guys that have trucks from the north around a lot of road salt keep in mind the 4 t20 torx screws will be rusted out and you will have to remove all the brake lines to remove the module and drill out the rusted heads off the torx bolts.
Hey BigGnads! Thank you so much for the instructions and video! I’ve seen others, but yours is the best! Use of fast Fwd video really helps. Can hardly wait to try this on my 05 Tahoe (EBCM light has been on since I bought it 2+ yrs ago). Cheers!
This has to be the cleanest undercarriage I have ever seen on a four wheel drive truck. The use of dielectric grease really makes a big difference. I can tell you I fixed mine also with the solder trick. I am just amazed that they did not solder the joint correctly at the factory. Wonder why that is ??? How many years have the ABS modules been fastened onto the frame of these trucks ???? Did you use silicone gasket material to seal the case ?? SOLDER IS CHEAP. Nice work fella too.
You should NOT apply Dielectric grease to electrical pins: Dielectric grease, or tune-up grease, is a silicone-based grease that repels moisture and protects electrical connections against corrosion. ... The grease does not conduct electricity, so it shouldn't be applied directly to the mating surfaces (pins and sockets) of an electrical connection. You can put on the connector shell but not the pins.
I have a 99 silverado and have replaced all four calipers because all four brakes were dragging, they still drag. Booster is dry inside. I was going to replace the flex lines but after replacing one that brake still dragged...can you shed some light on what causes all 4 to drag? I can`t get a clear direction to go in through searching. that is some good insight on the module! would a bad module cause the brakes to drag?
If i have the module rebuilt and find out the pump doesnt work can i buy just the pump and put the rebuilt module on it without having to have it all reprogramed or would it just be better to but the whole thing and pay to have it reprogramed to my silverado
That is a very good question. I think it would be a very small possibility that repairing the module would fix a constant running pump. Check your relays.
i have a 2001 1500 5.3 silverado.... i replaced 3 lines that attach to the abs metal box under the drivers side... so if abs is not working is the electronics like you show also on top of abs box??mine is 2 wd.... is that the actual motor??? i just had a scan tool fail to open my abs and the guy said the abs motor is bad... he said i need to remove all lines again a replace entire unit... is this over kill? i don't know anything about my trucks abs at all...thanks for sharing..

@@rwgnad Not yet but your video gave me courage

This happens when the relay in the unit welds itself in the on position.

Good luck. Everything should go easier than you expect.
Damn, that truck looks clean. Midwest salt state humor.
For a 1999, this truck is in perfect shape.
@@rwgnad It looks sweeeeeet
Yea, that ain't a Minnesota truck!!
Thank you so much Mr Nads , my 03 1500hd has the sameissue. Im gonna try that. Greetings from Texas.
Good luck, let me know if it works for you.
@@rwgnad yes sir will do.

Solder joints will age and fracture over time especially in the hostile environment of a vehicle undercarriage.

Sorry. I do not have the answer to your question. But I don't think the module needs to be programmed.
Any idea if something like this will help with my brakes locking up on my 06 tahoe.
Locking brakes are usually caused by a mechanical problem.
Take the Pistons out of the calipers and sand with 600 grit paper or higher. They're hanging up in the bore
how many screws 20mm screws did u undo on top to take off the controller from the hydraulics.

All of them
Quick question even after shutting my 1999 Silverado 1500 off and taking the key out my pump is still running any idea what would be causing this?
The crystal ball says it might be a stuck abs relay.
@@rwgnad thanks. Pulled the 60amp fuse and it stopped! Temporary fix but it works for now
@@armyleegreen take the relay out, and smack it on the bench a couple of times. I bet the contacts in the relay arc welded.
That's exactly what it is
if the abs pump runs continuously is that caused by the same problem and fixed this way also or could it be something else?
That is a very good question. I think it would be a very small possibility that repairing the module would fix a constant running pump. Check your relays.

Where do you live to have such a squeaky clean 20 year old truck frame like that!?
I'm in Florida and my frame is even cleaner yet. Just don't buy a beach truck or anything north of I-10
But you don’t need to grease the terminals and pins they have weather proof connectors with rubber seals in them
Excuse me, do you know if the 2004 scale is the same as the module?
I believe the 2004 Silverado has the same module.
I've been here before
I think
99-02 has two plugs
03-07 has one
Or vise versa

@@rwgnad i took a quick look seems the same...ps i also think a bad contact with one or more of connectors will cause issue...thanks
Thanks BigGnads for posting this, I may attempt this on my 99 Sierra 2500 this weekend. That is if I can get those rusty ass small torx bolts out 😡
Good luck, let me know how it goes.
Also needed...Hydraulic Lyft T_T
