Troubleshooting - Engine cranks over - No start - Crank Position Sensor
I watched this video 8 months ago before attempting this job.....I told the owner I would replace the starter in his truck for $500 labor.....he didnt have $500 available so he offered to pay me $800 at a future date stating that he uses this truck to earn money.......and he gave me a shotgun to hold as collateral. 🥺 I feel like selling the shotgun to recoup the money he owes me. Its been 8 MONTHS and hes not made ANY effort to contact me nor pay me what he agreed to pay me. What would you do? The shotguns nice. Its a Remington 870 Super Mag with hard shell case and multiple accessories. I used it this past hunting season and it shoots fantastic!
"Psychopath" 🤣 You read my mind! Thanks for the engine mount tip. Priceless 👍
Thank you that’s great help God bless your work man
Mechanic here an wanted this to be quicker so here I am well done. Mechanic approved ✔️
Ps heat shields were real fun but hey knocked it out in few hrs. 👍
Im sure its got 300k on the clock
I have a question I got this small black plastic part off my starter and was wondering what it is
It's probably the battery cable nut/post cover.
You do not need to lift motor or pull exhaust.. the starter will fit....
@@JoshAtterberry show me a link to a video.
I've done it.. didn't need a video.. but perhaps I'll make one
@@JoshAtterberrynot on a 4x4.
You ABSOLUTELY have to lift the motor.
Thanks, I already replaced the starter about a year ago, I had a mechanic replace it, I just want to replace the oil dipstick tube myself, but worried if its gets stuck in the pan while removing it.... then I would have to get it towed I imagine.... not sure...
Thanks again..... this helped alot.... I have a leak in the dipstick seal where it meets the oil pan, I thinking about do the work myself..... I hope the tube does not break when trying to remove the oil dipstick tube out..... do you have any suggestions? I just subscribed to your channel.
@@z06ix it's not an easy job to replace the starter. Some people remove the exhaust manifold to gain access to it. But the manifold bolts could strip or break. I think a small O ring seals the dipstick tube, easy fix.
Thanks for getting back about the removing the dipstick tube..... Do you need to drain the oil in the oil pan before you remove the dipstick tube or is ok to leave the oil in, without oil coming out? Thanks....
@@z06ix no need to drain the oil. It won't spill out.
cool video did you have to remove the oil dipstick tube to get to the starter? Thanks....
@@z06ix Yes. I removed the dipstick tube.
Great video. For the guys that have trucks from the north around a lot of road salt keep in mind the 4 t20 torx screws will be rusted out and you will have to remove all the brake lines to remove the module and drill out the rusted heads off the torx bolts.
Just remove the exhaust manifold and pull the starter and call it a day
Fantastic Video! Thank you for posting.
If i have the module rebuilt and find out the pump doesnt work can i buy just the pump and put the rebuilt module on it without having to have it all reprogramed or would it just be better to but the whole thing and pay to have it reprogramed to my silverado
Sorry. I do not have the answer to your question. But I don't think the module needs to be programmed.
Great video. Love the SJ in the background.
My 14mm wobbler socket couldn't access that top starter bolt.....not even with the transmission cooler line bracket unbolted. I ended up using a 14mm gear wrench.
I have a 99 silverado and have replaced all four calipers because all four brakes were dragging, they still drag. Booster is dry inside. I was going to replace the flex lines but after replacing one that brake still dragged...can you shed some light on what causes all 4 to drag? I can`t get a clear direction to go in through searching. that is some good insight on the module! would a bad module cause the brakes to drag?
This is a fking nightmare wth toyolla
You saved me on this one. In the middle of changing my Starter on a 2010 Toyota Sequoia 4wd. Has 190K miles on it. Original starter. Took the right engine mount nut off and jacked the engine enough to get the old starter through the rail and the exhaust manifold. Of course the solenoid connector lock broke as soon as I pushed it. Had to order another connector with pigtail. Thanks for this video, not sure if I would have thought about jacking the engine up to get it out. You the man!
Same thing happened to me with the starter solenoid connected…where’d you get one from?
Awesome video - very helpful, Thank you
Without question, the best camera work I've seen of removing this module. Glad yours went well. A very common problem with this series GM ABS pump is that the pump runs continuously whether key is on or off. As said previously in this thread it's because the relay contacts are stuck closed. There are several companies that will repair this module, one of them being Module Master for around $130. I've simply had my 60A ABS fuse pulled for the past 16 years on my '01 Tahoe and have had no worries other than BRAKE/ABS lights on the dash are on. Thanks for this video.
I hope you got your ABS operational.
@@rwgnad Not yet but your video gave me courage
In astro vans, front to rear brake proportioning is handled by the ABS pump. By pulling the fuse it sends most fluid to the rear. I am just learning this on my astro. I go through rear brakes every 4 months.
Dielectric grease is good for helping seal ..it's NOT GOOD ON ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS..is not a conductor..it's a insulator ..look it up.
Watched about 5 or 6 videos before I got to yours and I have to say Thank you and my hat is off to you . Your video makes sense and your technique make you a Master of your trade 👍🏼 well done.
Thank you for your kind words. 🙏🏻
But you don’t need to grease the terminals and pins they have weather proof connectors with rubber seals in them
Where do you live to have such a squeaky clean 20 year old truck frame like that!?
I'm in Florida and my frame is even cleaner yet. Just don't buy a beach truck or anything north of I-10
Great work on the replacement and the video. These steps should be about identical for a 2008 Toyota Sequoia 5.7L, if I'm not mistaken?
Any idea if something like this will help with my brakes locking up on my 06 tahoe.
Locking brakes are usually caused by a mechanical problem.
Take the Pistons out of the calipers and sand with 600 grit paper or higher. They're hanging up in the bore
2000 GMC 2500 sudden ABS continuously running even with the key off. No OBD codes shown. Had to pull the fuse. Tried soldering the module board as described but didn't fix it. Then sent it to the Speedometer Repair Guy. 3 days shipping each way and 1 day to rebuild. Money well spent. Fixed.
This happens when the relay in the unit welds itself in the on position.
Best hack yet for this job, thanks.
Way too much work
Buen video un like
if the abs pump runs continuously is that caused by the same problem and fixed this way also or could it be something else?
That is a very good question. I think it would be a very small possibility that repairing the module would fix a constant running pump. Check your relays.
Thank you for your detail in the video it's always nice to have someone go through each step
Stop with the vintage crap it’s not vintage
I'll edit the video just for you. Thanks for watching, I hope you learned something helpful that added value to your day.
Wow changing a starter on a Detomaso Pantera is easy compared to the Tundra.
If you jack up the engine, use a 2 x 4 block of wood that is about as long as the oil pan. I dented my oil pan because I used too short of a wood block. Oops.
Hi… just wondering how far do you have to lift the motor mount? Do you have to unbolt the other side too?
You only need to lift it 1 inch or so, you do not need to loosen the drivers side mount.
@@rwgnad Thank you!! Much appreciate! Happy Thnksgiving!! Will subscribe! 👍🏽👍🏽
How did you get the brake level through the bike? If you took the line bolt off, do you need to bleed the line again?
I was able to fish the lever through, but I think I had to remove the fuel tank. If you open the line, you will need to bleed the brake.
I got mine changed and this video helped along with reading several forums. I just thought I would mention that inside the door jam of my 2008 Tundra the factory label with specs calls them (rims) not wheels and the motor mount requires a nut removal not a bolt! You do say nut right at the end.
You did a good job on the detailed information, you have a home run here. The only slight struggle here was poor illumination for your audience. If you had better work light this would have been a grand slam. Check out the best work light for making DIY RUclips videos here >> ruclips.net/video/JGBm1RnZOH0/видео.html
O'Reilly's..O'Reilly..? That's not what you do when you love your truck. OEM starters run 150-200k. OEM for the win.
Woe woe woe.... Did you just call 2008 vintage????
tks
This has to be the cleanest undercarriage I have ever seen on a four wheel drive truck. The use of dielectric grease really makes a big difference. I can tell you I fixed mine also with the solder trick. I am just amazed that they did not solder the joint correctly at the factory. Wonder why that is ??? How many years have the ABS modules been fastened onto the frame of these trucks ???? Did you use silicone gasket material to seal the case ?? SOLDER IS CHEAP. Nice work fella too.
Solder joints will age and fracture over time especially in the hostile environment of a vehicle undercarriage.
@@michaelgeissler8837 When one remembers the simple things great things happen. Nice work fella too.
I don’t even have a tundra but yet I thought this was nicely done video!

Dam that's crazy I didn't have to lift the engine just fell right out of the bottom and I already got it back in 🤷🏿♂️
Excellent explanation and showing of what is needed to be done and not a bunch of nonsense talk . Great job
Dis you have to remove the dipstick tube
