I'm an Aussie, the reason this looks bad is ONLY because he has a slightly round arm action. The side on shows this, many fast bowlers today have the same thing. We now know this, back then it did look bad, thank god they didn't ban him, what a great bowler (not when he was tearing us apart, lol) Shoaib coped more flack than he deserved.
The difference between the two bowlers is a result of where the arm originates. Shoaib's action is sling-like and starts from well behind his body, like Jeff Thompson, which is why his hyperextension has a horizontal component as well.
The problem is Shoaib Akhtar didn't chuck every single ball But when he did it was obvious & was always ignored by everyone When he is called by ICC he bowls straight as an Arrow It pretty easy to see how the ICC testing is flawed
The only difference is with almost same amount of hyperextension Shoaib was bowling +95 mph. On the other hand, RP Singh was at 84mph or what. Secondly, as soon as Mikey concluded, Sanjay Manjrekar shut up like anything
Akhar action is alot different to when he first started, now as he brings his bowling arm up it does a few things, it's bent on the way up straightens then it hyper extended the other way thens straightens again during release, the first bit is a throwing motion, the thing is,hes doesn't always bend his arm, it's only when he trys to go for that extra pace.
Atleast someone understands this ,your the only one who found out the subtle cheating he does when he goes for extra pace ,he’s a clever man he fooled the whole world with his hyperextension ,in 1999 his action was much cleaner

His quicker ball was a little bit iffy, but it's hard to say definitively if it's a kink or his wrist flick. Lee has a much purer action - so I prefer him I think!

Yes,I find Brett Lee's action better too with all his bowling deliveries.
But shoib had a much better bowling action at start of his career and there was an odd delivery that he was dubious and holding picked one specific delivery.

Pakistan has more fast bowlers than India simply because we have a pedigree that has existed since Fazal Mahmood and Khan Mohammad and which was pretty much completed by Imran Khan. That is why if you go from Club cricket to even galli cricket, everyone tries to bowl fast in Pakistan.
Basically Holding is saying you can have hyperextension and have a legit action like RP Singh (or Bumrah today) but you can also have it and be a chucker like Shoaib Akhtar.
I mean, if they chuck, it does show. Malinga is an absolute side on slinger - and not for a second does he look like he chucks. Akhtar with a very similar action, hyper extension and all, still doesn't look right. Of course, Akhtar doesn't look as ugly as Muralitharan's action, but Akhtar is fast, deadly fast - and if he is getting away with chucking, batsmen won't be happy.

Looks like Holding is not such an expert after all. In both RP singh and akhtar the arm kink is inwards, not outwards (greater than 180 deg as holding says). Its a throw if the inward kink is more than 15 degrees, which is what Akhtar does. Quite incredible he got away with it so far and shame on pakistan for allowing such cheaters to move up so far.
