Aegon II in the source material always came off to me as just a young version of his dad Viserys. Jovial, likes his food and his drink but not an outright scum bag. And he flat out refused to accept the crown at first and only became Rhaenyra’s mortal enemy after Blood and Cheese happened. So I also wish that we got that more affable, sympathetic Aegon in the show to make the conflict even more nuanced and complicated.
Yeah honestly, I get he becomes a full SA perv later, but it looked like it was mainly because broken legs and pretty much all the shit going down. Prior to that, I thought his character in ep 6-7 was more in line with what I thought his real nature is, basically a party prince but relatively harmless. It feels like they escalated his villainy way too fast, just it have a clear bad guy?
To be fair the maesters writing that book are in the Hightower camp.

An interesting parallel I noticed was between Vaemond and Ned. Both are men obsessed with doing the proper thing and the honorable thing and both get killed for it. Like if the framing of the show were different and Vaemond was our protagonist we’d be furious at the targs. Obviously it’s not a 1:1 comparison because Vaemond was out for himself more but I just found it interesting

Cmon, the show makes it quite clear that Vaemond is not doing what he does because he thinks it’s honourable and right it’s not even really a comparison besides that both characters outed bastards. Ned didn’t even do it publicly, he always had everyone’s best interests at heart even the woman who betrayed his best friend the king and tried to save her life
@@Shadow-kj5oc Vaemond was still right. It just happened that the "right" thing also benefited him. So you can question his motives, but we can't really know if he would be honourable given different circumstances. Like OP said, not a 1:1 comparison, because Ned was committed to doing the right thing even when it didn't benefit him. (I haven't read the book)

VAEMOND is also "MASTER OF COMPLAINTS" as Laenor said and as Corlys warned ,will stoke mutiny when DAEMON is still fighting for them, shouting things that would destroy his brothers army from within? Not so honourable. I don't remember Ned STARK being this way. I understand his Velaryon blood thing, it's true , it also serves his purpose to be the next Lord of driftmark when Velaryon blood and name are going to rule Driftmark (Lucaerys+Baela). Ned stark had no purpose like that, He stood up for someone else's right. Labeling the heir a whore in court? VAEMOND was asking for it. If someone said that to Ned's wife I believe Ned would've chopped his head clean off as well.
So please do not compare VAEMOND to Ned stark.

I 💯 get Teddy's frustration. That's my main argument- she's the HEIR, the King proclaimed it, all the Lord's of the Realm swore fealty to her, what the Hightowers do is treason.
True, but Rhaenyra has already committed treason by birthing bastards so by law she shouldn't be heir anymore. Also most of the lords who did swear fealty to her are already dead. Not saying the Hightowers are right, I actually think everyone is in the wrong.

In the book Daemon and Rhaenyra would race Syrax and Caraxes from Kings Landing to Dragonstone leaving in the morning and arriving in the afternoon. Not far at all on dragon back.

Yes. At the very least even if the last two episodes are terrible we got a perfect 8 episode arc for Viserys that will always be fondly remembered

The dinner scene is a masterclass of building trepidation through melancholy. Viserys watching the kids in a last dance before the Dance. Fleeting moments of bliss before they're all swept away by the flood. Everyone hoping for the best, expecting the worst. For something so uneventfully peaceful, the passing was one of the most foreboding & viscerally filmed deaths I've seen. Book Viserys also doses off to the great beyond in his bed, after telling stories to grandkids. The king who was most unlike Aegon the Conqueror in life ends up being most like the Conqueror in death.
Ok enough jokes. Now the serious stuff. "You're no son of mine" - Alicent getting crossbowed in the loo on mother's day confirmed lol. Ep 9 is The Green Council😱!! Cue the Hoes Mad beat😤!! Our religion, tradition & patriarchy upholder Queen Mother & our redpilled Homelander King will make Westeros great again🙃/s

Mad King Aerys wasn't 100% Targaryen, he was half-Blackwood. Targaryens aren't at 50% mad, they've only had like 4-5 kings that count as 'mad' rather than just tyrannical. There's been hints that Valyrians used blood magic to prevent genetic collapse, because they practice incest for thousands of years, and they'd look like xenomorphs if the real effects of inbreeding happens. If anything, it's hinted that bringing in the Westerosi bloodlines back into the main branch, and inbreeding again, caused the defects from the Westerosi bloodlines to be expressed, because they're not covered by the blood magic used to keep the Valyrian bloodlines robust.
Also lest we forgot, Roose and Ramsay Bolton both were sadists without being inbred, so was Euron in the book, who was a pedophile rapist. Gilly on the flipside, a victim and result of incest, is as sweet and kind as possible for someone put through what she's been through. If anything, the stories hint that using bloodlines to justify anything, in anyway, is just a flimsy excuse that collapses on scrutiny.
FYI, the Starks had two uncle x niece marriages in their family history too. Northern Houses be like 👍when they see Rhaenyra on the throne married to Damon lol!

The thing about Aegon (II) is he’s a shit and a rapist, but dude does not want to usurp the throne. How happy was he when Viserys showed up to stuff up the Hightower’s checkmate move? He was so relieved! Remember him saying: “let her have it, I don’t want it” %smack% (from Alicent). So far I like his disinterest in ruling - and disinterest in fighting to become the ruler. That’ll probly change directly I s’pose. Let me enjoy it this week.

I'm closer to age with Matt Smith (turns 40 this month) than Ewan Mitchell (age 20). Matt is less than 2 years younger than me. Aemond is about 15 in the story. Daemon is 51 although he only lives up to 49 in F&B. I hear Ewan is a great kid off-camera. He portrayed Osferth in Vikings who is the polar opposite to Aemond.
Daemon and Aemond are in two different stages in their lives. Daemon has become more grounded and matured from Ep 1 to Ep 6. He's a family man now. Aemond is that troubled teenager looking for violence that Daemon loved from 20-30+ years back. But Daemon has more to lose since his compassion for people increased since having children.
It's not in the book which is inaccurate anyway and HBO won't really follow it but I would love to see Daemon and Aemond have a sword fight. I don't just want their only fight in The Gods Eye on dragons. I also want to see Daemon fight Criston one last time. HBO can just add scenes not written in the book. Add a sword fight on the ground before Daemon and Aemond fight in the air.
I still don't understand the hiring of Blood and Cheese from Daemon? Why not target Aemond? To me, it doesn't matter if Aemond has Vhagar. If you kill the rider, then you eliminate the dragon he rides on. Kill the pilot. Not the plane. I love that a character like Aemond does exist in order for Daemon to do evil things. Aemond's crimes serve as a scapegoat to Daemon's crimes.
Ep 9 looks to be Green-centric. I hope we see more Aemond being a badass. I hope Daemon returns to his long straight hair we saw in Ep 1 & 2. It was still long in Ep 3 but wavy. I saw photos of Daemon and Rhaenyra in armor. I think it's photos from Ep 10. First time seeing Rhaenyra in armor. I guess this means war and we'll see Caraxes and Syrax in action for the S1 finale.
I felt like Blood and Cheese only motive was to make Alicent suffer, I’m not sure if they’d have been able to get over on Aemond but I see what you’re saying. Talking about HBO and their liberties if only these guys knew they had that boy Viserys wasting away from the leprosy when the book had him fat and succumb to the diabeetus, lol. Also, you know ep10 Luke is gonna be headed to Storms End….

Teddy made GREAT and underrated point: the Strong boys should have spent their whole lives raised as Valyrians and ESPECIALLY learning how to fight. Every time somebody makes a comment, they get all pissy about it and someone ELSE always has to step in and defend them:

Viserys: I love you all dearly!! Also Viserys: My Only child!! He kept saying let’s get along & proceeded to keep doing everything to make sure that’s impossible. Viserys is the real villain of this show. Viserys knew what Jaehaerys' council would've wanted him to do. He knew having a male son after stubbornly naming his daughter heir would create an impossible situation. He knew his favoritism towards his daughter would naturally fester resentment on the other side of his family. Viserys knew what was gonna happen and kept doing it. He won his own crown that way. People forget he and Daemon were preparing for a civil war because the other claimant Rhaenys was a female. Viserys himself was "elected" king over a female, how hypocritical is it for him to trample on that legacy. Seems like the viewership can't compartmentalize between "loving father" (to one child) from "absolutely terrible king who made one bad decision after another". Viserys was the definition of Nero playing with his Lego set while Rome was burning from the fire he started.
I agree Viscerys made many mistakes but I think that “you are my only child” came from a milk of the poppy demetia-type state in which he thought his first wife was still alive. He seemed to be escaping to the past more and more when in milk of poppy. We can’t fault the poor guy for that. He was dying and his mind was falling along with the rest of his decaying body.

Daemon's "Dark Sister" is no Needle LOL!...Alicent mirrors Tywin Lannister's "You are no son of mine. I have my all time favorite episodes from GoT "Battle of The Bastards" "Spoils of War" "Hardhome" and now I get to add a third "The Lord of The Tides"
Jon Snow is my favorite character in GoT, because he stood for everything good. The closest person to him in character in HoTD is "The Queen that never was" Princess Rhaenys. She has stood for her family without lying, cheating or killing anyone. She speaks the truth, no matter the issue. Rhaenys still stands tall and carries herself well, as she did in front of her favorite cousin King Viserys, when she followed in her husband's belief that name is what matters not blood, and then sided with Rhaenyra. Well! if only Vaemond had listened LOL!

British accent is a term used by Americans. Britain is multiple countries and languages yet I've only ever heard them use it to mean English. Never Scottish or what have you.

It's ironic that the seemingly 'fake' emotions at the dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows that without the line of succession and primogeniture and all the other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have much of a choice. The dinner sequence makes for so much regret and despair cause it was a tiny window to what could've been. They all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.

23:24 alicent definitely has genuine care for viserys the moment he got weak after the throne room scene she rushed to his aid and immediately called for the maesters and at the end of the episode we're shown that he definitely does need the milk of the poppy as hes groaning in agony and doesn't even protest the drink even a little bit

It clearly wasn’t poison ..it was milk of the poppy, daemon confronts Alison about them using it to keep viserys slow and sleepy whilst they take his position to which she said it was for his pain. It wasn’t left ambiguous at all
As a non book reader, I react like Teddy a lot.
How can you root for team Green based on the show? People forcefully want it to be gray.
Is it because of the actor who plays Rhaenyra? Is it because of the incest? Because both sides do that. Both sides commit murders too.
Greens are sneaky, blacks are more in your face. I respect that more.
i think the show doesnt really wants to be gray. the greens are way worse but they gave them good motivations for their actions. especially allicent.
A lot of people like rooting for the villains. A lot of the appeal of the a song of ice and fire universe is that it goed against the typical heroes journey. Its fun seeing fictional bad guys thrive sometimes. Especially when they are as well written as some of the greens are.

They did slightly shoot themselves in the foot by not making the Strongs mixed. I don't have a problem with the Valarians being black at all. The Strongs not also being mixed takes away any questions of the kids paternity. In F&B, yes we all know they are Strong boys, but at least it can be questioned. There are family members that make Laenor having brown haired kids much more possible. It lazily dumbs down Rhaenyra for no reason and treats the audience as stupid.
