I really think that Daemon felt slighted by Viserys at that moment when he choked Rhaenyra...it's almost like he figured it out that Viserys never truly did consider him his heir because he never told him the secret of Fire and Ice. So that was his immediate reaction...and you can see Rhaenyra smirk when she figures it out as well and says, "He never told you." and she almost felt she had the upper hand at that moment.

Daemon choking Rhynaera is completely in line with the character. I dont understand the controversy with it. Hes impulsive and a cold blooded murderer. They just "murdered" his brother and feels like Rhynaera isnt doing anything about it, just like how Viserys was a king who didnt take action when it was needed most. Which Daemon hated and had to deal with all throughout the 1st season. Its very plausible all those emotions got to daemon and made him lash out, especially considering he had moments where he physically lashed out in the past. Makes 100% sense to me

    • @octavianpopescu4776
      @octavianpopescu4776 Год назад +6

I think the controversy is more about the audience than whether or not it made sense for the character. The first episodes made Daemon look like a charismatic mysterious "bad boy" character, BUT very important, he had a code. Or this action feels like a breach of the code. I think people (myself included) want to like Daemon, but every time you're close to feeling you've figured him out, he does something to contradict that. He's bad until he does something decent, he's good, but then he does something inexcusable. Personally, I think he's just bored and he's thrill seeking. He doesn't want power, as much as he wants action. He couldn't sit on a throne and hear petitions like Daenerys, he'd die of boredom.

I'm going to strongly disagree with you about the birthing scenes: I equate them to battle scenes, or the jousting scenes, or any scene where two or more characters are engaging in some graphic violence, but which has to do with the story: battle and fighting scenes often bore me, confuse me, and seem excessive, but they are part and parcel of what the story is. Birth is a vital part of this particular story. Birth is a dangerous, sometimes lethal, activity - in the eighteenth century, Diderot likened childbirth to battle, in fact, so the idea is far from new. Birth is how we all came here. It's a violent experience. This show is displaying that. I feel that if we can sit through a battle scene, or any of the number of violent deaths we've already seen and will see in the future, we should be able sit through the birthing scenes.

As a woman, I’m incredibly grateful that the writers are bringing forth for the masses, the true and excruciating pain and grief of miscarrying a human being. Putting aside even the sheer level of story/character building this is here to solidify moving forward. We’re desensitized to a hundred years of gore and violence on the screen, and yet a woman’s violent reality of childbirth is “too much”. I’m admittedly shocked at Nerd Soup’s viewpoint on this, albeit fair and solidly understandable. I agree; showing birth in this way is important both in terms of the story and irl. A lot of times people romanticize giving birth without mentioning the horrors of it. Seeing what Rhaenyra goes through to have children makes it even more impactful when she loses them. It’s also extremely relevant considering some people don’t have access to modern healthcare, and also certain countries are trying to eliminate rights regarding childbirth.

nah, the miscarriage scene had to be shown for us to see how horrible it is to go through…it serves RH’s character in many ways…it shows her as someone who truly loves being a mother since she held onto a dead child after so much pain and cursing she still held it in her arms ready to become a mother again. It also conveys how strong and collected she is since she is able to pick herself up after just a few hours of having to live through such a traumatic experience. It also shows what being the next in line for the throne does to a human to be able to pick yourself up so quickly which is probably very unhealthy in the long run…with them skipping that scene we would not feel the same level of strength from her and it would be a similar effect to the time jumps when it comes to daemon and luke

I never took the prophecy miscommunication as being the main plot driver. It’s the biggest misconception. Saying "you will make a fine queen" doesn't mean Alicent completely changed her mind & gave up on a 20 year old fear/grudge. It more likely was a heartfelt gesture where she got carried away in the moment. The coup was always gonna happen because of all the primogeniture/dynastic reasons. The prophecy was simply used by Otto & others as a propaganda pretext and by Alicent as a self-deluding tool of moral justification. Which goes along with her show character of "trying to hide behind the cloak of righteousness". It was her trying to convince herself (not others), what she was doing was moral & right. What one might call “house of accidents and misunderstandings” is but a quintessential Greek tragedy.

-Rhaenyra hesitation to start war is fitting with SHOW Rhaenyra which is different from BOOK Rhaenyra. Here we have seen her more in touch with her father (Who in the books is actually a drunk). She loves her father and follows his example by trying to keep the kingdom united without war, even the Crown of her father represents unity with all the sigils of westeros major Houses. So it is fitting that she hesitates to start a war.
-Daemon is an asshole tho, you guys are forgetting he is an agent of chaos that beats a messanger that carried his brother support and KILLED HIS WIFE. Him choking Rahenyra is fitting and on character that is impuslive and willing to behave like an unhinged psycho (or a mad dragon).

Something that I heard that I am actually really liking the idea of with the "losing control of their dragons" is referencing when Rhaenyra is going into labour and it keeps flashing to Syrax like the dragon can feel her pain and anger, and that the reason Arrax attacks Vhagar is because Lucerys is terrified and the dragon picks up on that and is affected by it through their kind of mental bond, also panics and activates fight or flight, deciding to first feint attack to throw off the pursuer and then bolt, and then of course Vhagar is a giant predator, something running is away is prey.

36:00 - This discussion broke my brain a bit, what show do you think you're watching? How many characters have we watched being brutally murdered at this point in GOT history? Off the top of my head over 3 named characters have had their heads caved in like watermelons. So why take issue with the childbirth scenes? Personally I think they've been some of the highlights of the season, considering some of the most outstanding acting as been showcased in these moments. Every single one has been plot/character relevant and help give context to the actions and feelings of those around them after the fact.
Just think TV seldom shows the messy reality that is childbirth, and the more these kind of things are shown the more understanding might be given to pregnant people.

Wow!! This dropped early...as always...luv it and Teddy cracks me up as he realises some things he missed🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣....the confusion with the Baratheon having a dragon cracked me up!! My 2cent
One thing book readers forget is that, the book is from a 3rd party perspective so saying they changed Aemond's reason for killing Luke makes no sense to me cos at the end of the day...No one was up there with them..The story tellers cld have jst assumed Aemond wanted to kill Luke becos of what they saw happened and how he was demanding for a fight!!
Also, DV does happen in real life and when people complain about it being shown in tv shows or movies, I get confused. Should it be excluded becos it makes people feel uncomfortable??..and saying it is cheap writing when these things literally happen irl and this character has been shown to be impulsive and irrational is rather interesting.
And people being angry with Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship not being all shiny or rosy aint saying it for fun. They are dead serious...I mean they created a ship name for them....oh can't wait to see their outburst when they are shown how their beloved 'ship' plays out if they follow the book!!

30:00 that’s right out of the books. When Dany rides Drogon in ADWD she has this line like: “it was so different from riding her horse. When she whipped Silver on the left side, the horse turned right since a horse’s instinct is to flee from danger. But when she whipped Drogon on the left, he would turn left, because a dragon’s instinct is always to attack.”
Given that, Arrax attacking makes perfect sense. He was in fight-or-flight mode being stalked and terrorized by a huge threat. He fled at his rider’s command, fled, and fled, but eventually his own instincts overrode the commands and he attacked, regardless of how hilariously futile that attack would be.

The horror of having to survive something so gruesome - behind closed doors - and then get up and get to work, it’s central to the story if these women, what’s expected of them and what they suffer.
Birth is something badass about women in a tough way that is true to life. When women are shown to be badass like men, kicking ass and punching big dudes, people complain it’s so unrealistic. When women are shown being badass in a true to life way like this, people say “ugh, do I have to see that? Do I have to confront a reality I have conveniently ignored until now that might color how tough I consider a women capable to be?”

Everyone has their own takes and thats fair, but I do think Beau is completely wrong about the Daemon situation on this episode, I think he just locked on into his own mindset and refused to see things differently or even analyze them in a neutral stance.
Daemon choking Rhaenyra is not about domestic violence whatsoever, it also does not contradict his character. Let's keep in mind that Daemon talked sht about Otto's dead wife in his face, he mutilated several dozen people, he broke a peace treaty in the Stepstones, he murdered Vaemond in cold blood in front of everyone, he murdered his ex-wife, he took a preeeeetty young Rhaenyra to a brothel forcing her, he rejects his own daughter just because she doesn't have a dragon... he is arguably one of the worst persons on the show.
Yes, Daemon has a soft spot for Rhaenyra and Viserys, but that just means he likes 'em more than other people, he is still shit with them. Daemon wronged Viserys so much during the first half of the season, and I already stated what he did with a young Rhaenyra.
Daemon choking her isn't about domestic violence or gender violence, it's about him losing it because he is a shitty person. He was already furious because of his brother's death and then he found out (by Rhaenyra) that his brother didn't trust him nor respect him enough to tell him about the prophecy.
It also sets up a weak link on the Black's side, just like Allicent is not trusting Otto to the fullest anymore.

"At least" he was escorted to his dragon - not when he's being set up as prey to Aemond and Vhagar. Of course in the war to come he'll be siding with his new son-in-law to be... but if i was Rhaenyra, i would count this lack of respect to my son as the first move in the action that started the war.

Rhenys DID NOT like Rhaenyra even b4 her son died lol. Where is this opinion coming from? The cold shoulder she gets in ep 7, the her threatening to not support her in ep 8 and thinking she killed her son? Her calling Rhaenyra a fool for thinking she could be queen in ep 2? Not saying "why wouldn't we?" When asked about her houses support in THIS episode lol? I don't know where ppl get this idea

Yeah, and after all that, she finally learns to respect Rhyneara in this episode when she literally mentions it to corlys. You can see it on her face during the coronation scene. She may not "Like" her, but she respects her a lot more than Aegon and the greens. What show were you watching?

@@JabroneyDirt yeah that's exactly it tho. This is the first time Rhenys actually has good feelings towards Rhaenyra. Corlys litterally says that Rhenys was right about Rhaenyra and they should stay neutral. Implying Rhenys making that exact point to him in the past.
Rhenys not bowing to the rightful queen is not any act of respect but at best simply distant observation. She getting over her preconceived notions of her to see Rhaenyra as she truly is probably for the first time.
Besides patriarchal systems pitting women against each other is a significant theme of this season. Rhenys arc in this season concluding with her overcoming it is important to her character cuz I don't know what else, thematically, her arc would be about.

I feel like the back to back deaths, her father and the stillborn, scared her..and the last death pushes her over the edge...and as for daemon I was thrown off too, but he also killed his wife and multiple people out of impulse...his anger is something I feel he struggles to control...

Yeah, it was supposed to be the "easier" of the two errands.
Guess she forgot that Storm's End was closer to King's Landing as well (I think, don't have a map handy right now).
