Dreams didn’t make our House great, soup did.
Imagine an ASOIAF house that actually gained prosperity and recognition solely for their delicious soup.
History does not remember blood, it remembers soup.
Tis good soup. Adam Driver has two soup spoons ready to use at any moment, one on each side of his face.
Put that on a goddamn t shirt
It remembers good soup.
@@NaiveAgenda I'd buy it. 🙂
@@Blinkptx me too. I nice cropped shirt for summer for me
This season was able to bring in new fans and bring back the GOT fans that lost faith in the series
Me and my friend felt the same way.
Yes I agree.
i think they know season 8 was a disaster...they wont make the same mistake again...
@@ashiq_seven yeah they're definitely going to change Rhaenyra's fate so they don't traumatize the Dany stans again
@@Ryuk45 he'll no I highly doubt that
Another pleasure with this new series is the nerd soup boys being back in their element
Imo Game if Thrones/HotD has been the best show to watch analysis and recaps. I feel like it really enhances the experience of the show.
I think if they KNEW this show would have been a success for sure they might have done this in two seasons or something, but can you imagine the feeling of risk after what happened after Season 8. I agree about the acting by the way, the absolute high point. I love GoT and I think acting was never a big issue but in this one, the acting was very good.
One thing I knew for sure was the casting would be solid.
GoT has a knack for great casting!
I thought Corlys would be a distraction but he's great and I'm blown away by Emma DArcy and her acting. Those birthing scenes can't be easy.
Not at all! Concidering this whole season was basically a prelude to the dance I really appreciated the pacing. 1 or 2 additional episodes may of helped but I'm not mad at the story at all.
I don't think it would've made sense to make the prelude to the Dance be 2 seasons. But it should have been 12 or 13 episodes.
Game of Thrones really is back, it's hard to even imagine after S8, but I'm glad to think about this universe and be excited about it instead of bitter.
Agree
Sweet is always better than salty.
S8
#StillSalty
I feel like the changes from book to show mostly added to the story rather than cut out anything or take away. The characters are more fleshed out in the show. Also, a shorter run, like two seasons, for the Dance of the Dragons would be completely worth it if HotD then gets turned into a Targaryen anthology. I think that going back to Aegon's Conquest would actually be the best way to do that as he's probably the most well known backstory character and it would clearly communicate to the audience that this is the start of a true anthology and not just another big time jump.
Considering what we know now about Aegons conquest as well as the mysteries that still surround the conquest (Such as what actually happened to Rhaenys after Meraxes crashed and if she died on impact or was tortured to death) I think it's inevitable that we get a show about Aegons conquest, or that House of the dragon even takes time to focus on it. Like we still get 4 seasons for the dance, then 2 or 3 seasons for the conquest, and so on and so forth for other events.
They should’ve kept Rhaenys hair black instead of changing it in the show
I agree, but I get why they did it. Since it might have been confusing because people might not have recognized her as a targaryen
After every episode, my spouse and I would look at each other and both say “THAT WAS A GOOD EPISODE!” - we were so anxious all throughout Storm’s End. “I’m worried about our boy Luc - he’s looking nervous. Oh shit is that Aemond’s dragon?!”
This is one of the few podcasts that I can hear even though I’m partially deaf so thank you for the excellent voice tones. 👍
Soups back on the menu boys!
Wait
Wrong franchise
Always felt Cregan Stark has a lot more of Arya in him than Ned... can't wait for his beats.
What makes nerd soup a+ is the bickering between you all. So natural, actual friends just talking shit. Love it.
I’m so glad got made a comeback bc I joined the fan base very late and it’s nice to be seeing everything unfold with everyone else

Soup is a power mankind should have never have trifled with
The Starks coming into the fold will be epic. Also Teddy’s reactions are just precious.
The very people complaining about there not being much action and getting bored with HoTD are the reason Hollywood is throwing out boring spectacles.
I use to spend hours on RUclips watching Game of Thrones theories and analysis. After season 8 ended, I stopped watching them but House of Dragons made me fall in love with this world again.
Same but I stopped because of how bad that last season was.
Agreed with Aaron. Love Matt Smith, he was one of the biggest draws for me to the show, but he had little to do this season. Rhys Ifans was great - he brought real gravitas to Otto, and had more emotional and vulnerable moments with Viserys (when he was being fired) and Alicent (when he was leaving the Red Keep). Olivia Cooke was probably the strongest actor this entire season, along with Paddy. Her outburst in episode 7 alone is one for the ages.
Wish you guys would talk about all the important characters, because it really does feel like the Rhaenyra, Daemon, Viserys show. Aaron's the only one who even bothers to acknowledge the other characters and actors.
It would be epic to bring Aegon’s Conquest into cinemas, perhaps a trilogy instead of a series🤔
If you like Milly Alcock watch "Upright". It's a great Australian mini series that's a must see.
Just shows how George is an incredible story teller, and whenever he is involved in the making of televised versions of his art he does it amazingly. Honestly this show is soothing my soul after GoT ending.
Maybe not everything has hit as big as GoTs, but many have been in high-profile movies/series since the series ended.
Emilia Clarke is going to be in Secret Invasion.
Gwendolyn Christie has been in Star Wars, The Sandman and Severance.
Non GoTs:
Ewan McGregor has won an Emmy (Halston) and has been nominated for his season of Fargo.
I do think that Aegon being portrayed as lustful can realistically have consequences like SA. With Aegon being a hedonistic prince in a position of power obviously there is a high likelihood that not every encounter would be consensual. I’m sure some of the women that Robert had relations with didn’t entirely want to as much as they felt they had to. I mean he also forced his 13 year old brother to have relations with that older woman at the brothel which is also a really disturbing and emotionally violent aspect of SA involving young boys that people tend to overlook.
I agree but I think they went too far with him having multiple bastards and having them fighting in an underground royal rumble lol. That was a bit too depraved. How did he get so fucked up? This is the problem with the time skips.
@@nostalgicbliss5547
Season 8 left such a bad taste.
I'm #StillSalty
They knew this. They knew 8 was horrific and hard as hell to follow. I to wish we had more time with the kids and definitely Rhaenyra and Strong...but with that said I can also see why they did it the way they did. If it was not well received then we likely would have gotten only 2 seasons. HOPEFULLY they will now slow it down a bit.
They took a risk and the risk paid off. There are ALOT of deleted scenes.
@@wendyc1902 They were always going to slow it down in season 2. The first season was basically a 20 year prologue. By the end of season 1 the civil war has officially begun, which is what the main story is all about. All the current characters are the main players in the war.
@@nostalgicbliss5547 yes I agree. It felt disjointed
@@nostalgicbliss5547 I mean it's made pretty clear how it happened. Viserys didn't really care about his sons and his mother only scolded him or cared to use him as a political piece, not really caring that much as a mother as he got older.
This was a very satisfying first season
Nothing compares to season one of GOT but this is VERY promising
I am looking forward to season 2 after I refused to even speak about the world/franchise after Season 8 GOT
Honestly I just watched it back. I feel like this season is in the conversation if you remove the nostalgia
@@ReignofIndepence Nah it wasn’t that good
@@ReignofIndepence not even close to GoT s1.
This was like the same few conversations happening over and over again, Got S1 constantly developed its drama.
@@YourBlackLocal Exactly!! Got tired of all the succession talk lol. Some of those small council meetings got tedious
Thanks for reviewing the season guys, especially the double weekly reviews. Love listening to you guys. Watching the show is a ritual, as is listening to you guys :)
“Good Soup” our house words
HOTD season 1 was good..:but the rush was not good. They easily could have slowed season 1 down and let us spend more time with the younger characters. I hate how fast it moved. I barely had any reaction to Luke death bc we spent so little time with these characters. That’s my only complaint. I LOVE the slow burn and character development of GOT.
I had very little reaction to any deaths because almost no relations were established. They were just characters in the background.
@Raymond Sims Yes, Vizzy T I shed a tear and cared about him. Not any other characters.
@Raymond Sims Of course you can criticize the show! A moment can make you feel something but if the story in itself is still disjointed and convoluted, that's a legit critique. Lol. Hodor remembers this!
nah, i thought the pace was done really well. its clear they sacrificed some development to tell the story they want to tell.
When Teddy said Chicklet I honestly thought of the gum 🤣🤣 Dennis the menace images and all lmao
Me too
Fun fact.. I had no business going back to GoT after season 8. I Freakin rewatched GoT (still hated the ending, but really appreciating all what was Great up to S05, 06ish) after the HotD episode first aired. HotD helped the Franchise back up.
"A young British lad...who acts" - cracked me up
Someone has probably mentioned it but the Mountain IS the alias. His name is Sir Gregor Clegane I'm docking points on that one... haha!
I get proper excited when I see a new video.
Only person I could see winning the Emmy for best supporting actor besides Paddy is Antony Starr for Homelander
Paddy would not be nominated for Supporting Actor, he's up for Lead Actor.
Literally just sat down to study for midterms and now I have awesome background noise. Thanks guys lmao
How dare you make me laugh about Luke's death... 😂
I disagree about the theme song. I think it was a great way to show we are back in planetos
Madden has had that fantastic season of Bodyguard and is also an MCU star too
For the most part the “changes” are just concretely showing something the book leaves up to interpretation one way or the other. It’s almost like they just go with the Mushroom version events .
I'm new to your channel so I'm not sure who's who's but whichever one of you hasn't read the book I totally recommend TWO things to help you! Fire and Blood on Audible and the new book Rise of the Dragons! The Audible version is recommend as the book is a difficult read. No not difficult like Dante's Inferno difficult but boring difficult lol the Audible version is AMAZING as it's told by the Maesters in their maestery accents 😁 so it's a much more enjoyable experience. The book I recommend as it's absolutely GORGEOUS and allows one to put a face to the names so to speak. Those two things will take you from novice to expert! 😎
if you guys make 400 part ill probably have enough nerd soup content until season 2. Keep it up
Beau uses “Strong” to describe any scene with the strong boys, idk if it’s on purpose
I got the wife into GoT and she got soooooo into the show. By the time we got into season 2, we were watching GoT daily, all day, every day.
I've now been sleeping in the spare room for a week because I got her into GoT.
S/O Nerd soup 🍲 💯✊🏽 appreciate you guys. - Ted, you the man Bro, love your energy 😂💯! Yall Podcasts always a vibe. HOD lived up to my expectations and beyond. I really enjoyed S1. Can't wait to see where it goes
I was not expecting this. I will accept this.
Teddy better have an egg ready for his kid.
This just proves they can still make good show/movies when they want to Amazon messed up huge with their trash shows ROP/Wheels
I watch Wheels through the "This is a sy fy show" type of lens and its pretty good lol
Ayyyyyyyyye pt1
If Lenor returns from the dead, doesn’t that make Daemons kids with Rhaenyra bastards? Be very difficult for him to come back
If he comes back pretending to be someone else who knows? I just hope his mom sees him.
Isn't there someone in the Dance that rides Seasmoke? Considering a dragon doesn't take a new rider till its current one dies, chances are the guy in the book that appears IS Laenor in disguise come to fight for his ex wife after news reaches him of war and Luke's murder (Aemond didn't mean to, but as we know, that's not the story that will be told.)
@@rev0568 The someone who rides Seasmoke is 15, so it would be very difficult for Laenor to pretend to be him.
But outside of that, the idea that Laenor could go back and not be publicly recognized is absurd. If the show did it, it would be as hilarious as the Clark Kent disguise.
I don’t think it changes anything. The lie about Lenor being the father of her Stong children changed nothing. All of her children will still be of Targaryen decent.
@@pamjames9077 You don't seem to understand how the Westerosi society and the monarchy works.
Laenor not being the father of the Strong boys means the kids are bastards.
Laenor being alive on the show means that Rhaenyra and Daemon's marriage was not legitimate on the show (Westeros does not recognize polygamy) so the other two kids are also bastards. (Look up the succession of Edward IV in real English history)
Bastards don't have the right to inherit anything.
Lying about it and trying to pass bastards as heirs to the throne is treason by Westerosi law.
Ergo, Rhaenyra has been committing treason by their law (it would be major fraud even by our laws), which is punishable by death. Rhaenyra herself has said she was committing treason.
Why do you think she was so panicked about people saying that the Strong boys are bastards and why this was such a huge political issue?
Luke being the heir to Drifrmark is also fraud. Vaemond was fully in the fight to complain (though he should not have tried to become heir himself, he should have supported Baela's right as the true heir).
I like that there's changes from the book. Remember that the book is basically a history book written by people that weren't always there. It's just like RL history where there's inaccuracies and embellishments and the show is showing what really happened.
In The Crown, the actor who plays Princess Diana, Emma Corin i think his name is, is also NB, and won the Emmy that year and i think they gave it to her in the woman category
love you guys❤
Nobody remembers that Paddy was in the music video for Leave before the lights come on by Artic Monkeys
I liked Aegon’s coronation scene. It was beautiful, epic, and tragic at the same time.
a Tragedy of SommerHall movie would go so hard
Great season. It made me find you guys. Been enjoying these a lot.
The actor who played Harwin is a REALLY good actor because he’s not really good looking but he was extremely charming and sold the brief view of the relationship between he and Rhaenyra. I mean just the fact that from episode 3 SOME viewers caught hold of him due to one look. I think his brief performance was really strong. Pun intended
U crazy he is good looking have u seen his photoshoots the guy is handsome af
Damn Skippy!
But he is handsome.
I wanted more lol because those scenes were so 💪
Don’t get me wrong
The man can be sexy - no question
But sexy is more than looks
That’s kind of what I’m saying here
He’s a great actor cause he was able to convey that very easily in very little screen time
I’ve seen some of his other work
Outlaws
Holding the Man
Bloom
Packed to the rafters
Ladies in Black
He’s truly different in each one and thats good acting for you
His acting sold that sexy, dad, lover, one punch vibe
That’s all I’m saying
For me, the pacing was way off. I think an advantage we have with TV is being able to fill in the “truth” behind some of the things we read in the book. Them not showing the relationship between Harwin and Rhaenyra was just weird. Also, I think a lot of the characters are not going to be an appropriate age during the dance. Some of the children should be older by now, I think. Joffrey should be like 12, and aegon iii and viserys ii should be older as well. If they have a role to play in the dance, how is this gonna make sense?
Show in general is awesome tho.
There are a crap tone of small battles in the fire and blood book dance of the dragons and a hand full of dragon fights but there’s enough smaller battles and political stuff to get thru 4 seasons for sure I think there’s enough for 5 seasons but 4 will work
WOW, WOW spoiler alert towards the end. Great now I have thoughts going in to TÁR. Thanks Beau. I go into movies with a blank mind and i let the movie fill it up.
They have to tell the blackfyre story after the dance.
I just call the whole shabang “dragon show” and yeah I concur, dragon show is back.
Getting me through the last hour at work!
Aegon the Conqueror did not have any daughters. He had two sons, one from each wife, although there are fan theories that neither was really his. His favorite sister-wife Rhaenys had a lot of other lovers, and Visenya was rumored to be a sorceress who turned to blood magic to produce Maegor the Cruel after decades of barrenness.
Aenys I's oldest child was a daughter, Rhaena, who some thought should be the ruling queen. Maegor usurped the throne from all of Aenys' children though, and killed Rhaena's brother-husband Aegon the Uncrowned.
Rhaenys was rumored to have multiple different lovers, honestly I believe he is Aegon son & for some reason I believe Maegar is the product of Vinsenya black & blood magic because he was so violent & he couldn't produce a baby beyond a still birth
If you analyze the HotD opening credits, they suggest that Aenys was not Aegon's. He's only shown as Rhaenys' son.
Im glad Alicent is kept as a loving mother rather than an evil person conspiring. It gives the show more grey areas for people to side on. Fantasy has an issue with Black and White evil, I'm glad it muddles that with Alicent and Aegon II being influenced outside.
Loving mother? Did we watch the same show?
@@soupkid8268 What show did you watch exactly?
Any time I hear "Let's dance," I think of the first (and best) Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat (1995) lol
Those wer 500 dollar sunglasses asshole
If anything in the first scene of episode 6 when she's giving birth, she resembles Aemma totally So you are almost secured with that. And you're not even thinking about Millie,.... You're just drawing right into that resemblance so it's almost a safety so to say
HAPPY Halloween 🎃🤪
They should have given Rhaenys black hair in the first scene from the great council but made it more and more silver in each episode until it is all silver by the finale.
I feel like if Viserys didn't marry anybody and just remained alone for Rhaenyra and the realm things would've played out more positively. But hindsights 20/20 and making a blueprint for power is diff from having it. Viserys was weak but he was a good enough king. Good enough for peace
aaron's resistance to Matt Smith's performance is a bit weird... I mean who on this show can you say BETTER portrayed their character than him? I mean at no point did I not believe in his acting, even the way he stands and smirks, it was awesome every single episode
Agreed! Matt was my fave actor on the show
do i miss sth? he acknowledged the great performance of matt, just shared his thought that he has not an outstanding single performance like patty in episode 8. that’s all.
I compare it to GOT Season 4. Pedro Pascal was amazing all season (like Matt), Dinklage was outstanding through his trial (like Paddy in Ep.8).
I love the Esoiafcu
Extended song of ice and fire Cinematic universe ❤
This costume discussion 😂
The good thing is that they have a lot of places to go if the want to add or embellish some of the already written material. Adding Winterfell is going to help plus once Daeron comes in they could expand his plot a bit since his character is compelling. There is also the dragon seeds which gives them more characters to work with. Then there are the main characters that could flesh out. Specifically Aemond and Helaena whom they’ve given more substance.
Since you guys were talking about Milly Alcock and her potential future roles I just wanted to recommend the show 'Upright'. It came out in 2019 and it was how I was first introduced to her. She is amazing in it and if you liked her in HOTD you'll definitely like her in Upright. ALSO season 2 is about to come out! If anybody watches it please come back and let me know what you think!

I usually find the shooting the s*** portion of podcasts unbearable, but you guys, I love it.
I followed your Recaps all through Game of Thrones, including the final season, which I've never actually watched. I'm not going to watch House of the Dragon either, and I'm glad to have stumbled upon your discussions because it's as good or better than watching the show itself
Please Sir more content, I've watched this twenty-eleven times, still funny though!
Well... Ja quen Hagar did know his way around Harrenhall quite well tbh... He might have been there for a very long time. Someone might say lol
I wanted to see vhagar be found by Lana
I have a feeling we’re going to find out Laenor dies some way or another. Because I just can’t fathom a dragon having two riders
He who passes the soup, should swing the soup.
I watch GoT every now and then.. but just to the 4th season.. maybe i might go to the 6th... and then repeat. I leave it on the background and watch the parts i like.
I wish the actor that played Harwin would play Cregan that would be epic!!
He wouldn't pass as a 21 year old, I'm afraid. "Closer to your age than mine"...
Cavill is a big enough nerd to accept a role in anything related to this franchise. Plus, he's off the Witcher, so why not.
Imagine watching this show and being bored. Crazy how people can’t pay attention unless swords and explosions are on screen. This show was amazing from start to finish. If you don’t think so you’re just a hater.
Yo when did the mm soup shirt come out?!
I'm sorry guys but Rings of Power is really really bad. More happens in one scene in HOTD than several episodes of ROP. Idk if you guys are trying to be on Amazon's good side or what but it was horribly bad. I'm a book fan so maybe I'm jaded by the bad choices they made but Galadriel was worse than Rey. And Sauron the most likeable character in the entire show.
I’m not a book reader of LOR and can also say this Rings of Power show is a huge fail story wise
@@kalecrystal4054 It just felt like it was going nowhere. And if the most likeable character in your show is fucking Sauron there is a problem
Hey big fan of the show here! I was hoping this message would reach my favorite podcasters out there and I could ask them a question. Could you give us another game of thrones original series as a tribute to one of the best material you gave us. Like Willy Nelson says, as long as the fans want it I’ll be happy to oblige
I chuckled everytime they said "strong" In this review..
I wish people would stop fancasting these shows. Casting relatively unknown actors is one of my favorite things they do. A famous dude would break my immersion 😂
If they cast cavill, he's only aegon in people's mind when they imagine him from the songs
Edit: aegon the conqueror
As a certified woman and long-time feminist, good job on having good opinions that i agree with 😂
Fancasting can be fun, because who doesn’t imagine an actor they like playing a character they like? I fancasted “Sean Luc Picard” as Professor X waaaay before the first X-Men movie came out. I read the comics and watched the cartoon, just knew he’d be perfect.
Seeing Sean Bean on the cover (that’s a baaad assed cover) drew me in. Between seeing him on the cover and hearing about there being dragons, I was in! Once I saw Sarah Connor (love me some Lena) was playing Cersei, I was IN! Charles Dance, Dear Sweet Brother Numspa as Tywin? I WAS ALLL IN!!!
I love some unknowns, too. I liked not knowing who Rob, Jon, Arya, and Bobby Barratheon were. The casting agents for these shows are great.
Coming back, I rewatch GOT often and actually didn’t think HOTD had rewatching power. Now, by March, I’ve rewatched HOTD 3-4 times. One of which I started at ep. 6. And I’ve really enjoyed it. Mind you I’ve also rewatched GOT also in that time and I mostly stop at Dragonstone. The fact that it made the rotation and is actually amazing had exceeded expectations.
But they could do nothing with sea smoke until Leanor either dies or comes back and if he comes back as " someone else" somehow magically writing sea smoke. How is that to be explained? His only chances if he goes to the faceless Men gets a new face. That's his only hope hahaha
Yay hot fresh Soup!🎃
