Seriously the BEST video for how to pill a cat. Every time I've ever had to pill a cat I end up with scratches all over my arms and hands and I tried this wrap method (kitty burrito) on 3 separate cats this evening with the assistance of my 7 year old. Not only did I pill all 3 cats easily, but it took less than 2 min. Each! I will burrito my cats EVERY time from now on. I do wonder what all the negative comments are about? I was skeptical but seriously try it and you will be amazed at how easy it will be. I'm sold! Hook, line, and sinker!!!
Uh, Honey... I've had 18 cats, the oldest three of which lived to be 21. This would have worked on less than half of them. You need to get some more cats under your experience belt, then you'll understand these hilarious negative comments. They're all true.
@@user-hh7ys5gu9e we have outdoor farm cats we've had over 20 cats in the past 2 years since I made the original comment. The routine dewormer is always a pill because in my experience the liquid just doesn't work so I always request the pill from the vet. And I always get skeptical looks from the vet as a result. Lol! I have used this method every single time. Always easy! Can do it in 30sec nowadays. I still think the negative comments are odd. This works flawlessly every time. My 13 yr old can do it by herself. The trick is to wrap it real tight with a THICK towel, push it all the way to the back of the throat and then hold the mouth shut while rubbing downward from the chin. It stimulates them to swallow. Then they don't spit it back up. Not sure why you felt the need to talk down to me. Have a nice day.

I watched several cat clips on cat care , and this girl does an awesome job! She gives you the impression that its not that hard to do! Shes the kind that gives off that confident , quick .... " If I can do it , so can you!" Feeling!
I think that they need you to be confident. i have a cat that is not only big but very stubborn.. used to mix the ground up pills into his food but then he refused it. forget about pill pockets, he hates those and all treats now. :/
dawn dawn.......She is using the most passive cat I have ever seen. How is that helpful.......She should be using a cat who lashes out and hisses not a cat that looks as though it has smoked a joint. Doh
This worked for me (and my cat tends to be a wriggler)! I coated the pill in butter first, and my cat was really good about swallowing it. She loves butter. Don't worry-- I know cats are lactose intolerant, so I only give her the tiniest bit and only on rare occasions.
Honestly a little bit of the bad for the greater good of the cat is worth it, I had a cat in my childhood who refused to drink when he got sick and was becoming really dehydrated so I put a few drops of milk in a small bowl of water to get him to drink and it worked, thankfully he recovered too
This video has been a god send for us for the last year or so. It works. The first time our cat was super purry he loved it so much as he thought we were giving him mega attention. Sadly he's not been like that again since and he does struggle a lot, but with some perseverance and quick wrapping, it does lock them in. Then it's a matter of straddling and forcing the mouth open. It does work.
I find this technique works well when you have a helper to drop the pill in while you hold the cats mouth open. I got it to work just now and although my cat wasn’t as docile as this one it worked pretty well!
THANK YOU! I just tried this with my fiesty teenage cat and she surprisingly took it like a champ! It took 2 people. One to hold her in the towel and one to open her mouth and put the pill in. We stroked her throat and blew in her nose to get her to swallow. We kept opening her mouth to until we saw that the pill was swallowed and then we let her go. She even came back for cuddles afterwards! So grateful as this was last pill after trying to hide the others in her food and treat, which she avoided like the plague. DEFINITELY TRY THIS!
Oh she makes it look so easy but not all cats are like that. My friend and her husband recently did the wrapping and he freaked, fought his way out and lacerated them both. There was no way they could give him tablets. All ways of disguising them in food and wiping on his coat failed. I was so lucky with one of mine. He would jump up on the counter and happily take tablets. Have one now who I know will be impossible. Wouldn't it be good to have a video about how to deal with them rather than these perfect people who just open their mouths and pop them in .
I have a difficult cat. While the swaddling technique didn't work here with her, however you helped me out a whole lot by teaching me how to get the mouth open. I was so new to it, never done it before, so my research brought me here. I was able to get her to take her pill thanks to you teaching me how to get her mouth open. Thank you 😊!
My cat was a holy terror about pilling, and we've pilled 3 or 4 cats consistently some even every day, without too much trouble, even the fussy ones. She was a wriggly nightmare even though she's normally super sweet and docile like this guy. I did a few "test runs" while playing with her by stroking her jaw in that same motion and reassured her, then eventually backed her up so her butt was against me and did the technique this vet shows. It's not hard, and if you are able to practice even just the motion on your cat (or a less struggly kitty) you can get confidence up to do this. Really grateful for this. I'm more confident, and my super struggly girl took the pill within about 10 seconds, with a lot less anger at me. Take the time to get you both calm, and then be confident cuz this technique works! Thank you for posting (8 years ago posting but still)
If you do a kitty burrito the cat correctly, as she shows in the last half of the video, the cat will have no choice. A second person may be needed if the cat puts up a terrific fight to be pilled.
OMG! That's the best pill patient ever! Although there was no pill (even a placebo) to elicit the, "What are you putting in my mouth?!" behavior 😾 he seems to have a calm disposition. Thanks for the video, but even wrapped, mine tries to act like a twisting alligator.
Quik tip for anyone else in the same boat as me and wasn't sure how to get your cat to take their pill. I attempted the way in the video considering I have a friendly cat, but he already was very upset with me for taking him to the vet and was scared enough already that I just could not force his mouth open and didn't want him to completely hate me, so I got some wet cat food he loves, took a teaspoon of food, put pill into it and used my fingers to kind of ball the cat food around the pill, set it on the floor so he thought it was a treat, and it was gone in a second with zero struggle. And a happy kitty because he thought he got a free treat
My vet gave me capsules to treat her fungal infection on her one claw. Don't think this would work with huge pills. Have you had to give capsules to your cat?
Worked!!! Thank you for this. He wanted nothing to do with pill pockets so I had to do it the hard way. This made it pretty quick and easy. He wasn't happy with me but at least he got it down
We have tried for months to get our boy to take some dewormer and it was a nightmare. It took us 10 seconds after watching this video thank you so much!!!
There is a better way: crumble the pill and mix it with butter. If cat still doesn't want that, wait till he sleeps and put it on his nose - he's going to lick it. Some medicine for cats are producing in this way
thank god, i was having so much trouble giving pills to my chill relaxed cat that i needed this video. now to the mad one that likes to sink her claws into me, that one should be way easier
Never in a million years would my cat even begin to let you do that. She'd either think you were playing and start messing with you or she'd think you were trying to show affection and would get up to bump her head into your hand and purr. (This was my first ever RUclips comment about my cat. I'm sure it won't be the last.)
That's one real, REAL chill cat.... And I thought my cat was chill. My cat has to start taking Prozac because he's peeing everywhere and absolutely nothing is helping stop the behavior after many vet trips, with 2nd/3rd opinions, and strictly following all the advice. Tried giving him a pill and he would not eat it with anything. I'll try this method so long as it isn't TOO stressful on him.
Thanks for this! After getting clawed down one arm, I had to go online and get some education. The method in this video worked great, even with a very uncooperative cat, though having a second person pop in the pill helps a lot.
These comments are great LOL!!! I'm taking my Effie to the groomers tomorrow and have to give her a cat Xanax beforehand so she doesn't go beserk like last time. I hope this works!
You couldn't pry open my cat's mouth with a crowbar. A vet with 20+ years experience with assistance from his vet tech couldn't open my cat's mouth. He had to be sedated.
Does your cat like mayonnaise? Or whipped cream (from a can) ? Then you should try the following: Squeeze the pill between 2 spoons to make it to powder. Press your little finger in the powder so that a part of this powder sticks to your finger. On top of this you put a little bit of mayonnaise or whipped cream and let the cat lick it up. Repeat this until all the powder is in the cat. Succes, hope it works for your cat too, it gives no stress to the cat and no stress for the owner.
Doesn't work with my fur-baby. My 12 y.o 18 lbs fur-baby knows when it it is pill time and darts under the bed and stays there for hours. If I am lucky to catch my fur-baby before he darts under the bed, I have a 2 seconds window (He fights me to let go of him) to try and wrap him in a towel. Hard to do when he squirms vigorously try to get away, that is. And if I am lucky enough to manage to wrap him in a towel, trying to hold still his head while he is thrashing his head back and forth, is yet another daunting challenge. When I do manage to hold his head still, opening his mouth in the way of vet suggested way, popping the pill into his mouth without him pushing it out with his tongue can go on for minutes. And if I know he swallowed it and I let him out of the towel, many times he manages to vomit out the pill minutes later. Note: I have to be as gentle as possible during the whole procedure due to him having a heart disease, which a highly stressful situation for him, could then lead to him going into heart failure. The pill that I need to give to him every day, is to help prevent blood clots. I cannot hide the pill in food, because he smells the pill in it and just ignores the food. Even if it is his favorite meal. Pill pockets won't work either, because pill pockets has salt in it and it isn't good for my cat. I truly wished when vets post examples on pilling a cat, they would also demonstrate on a non-docile cat such as mine. And also not have an assistant helping, since I have to do this on my own.
You can also wrap it in fresh turkey, put it in a pill pocket '(amazon sells these or pet store) OR request that the pill come in a microtablet form and then pop it in a soft chewy treat like whisker lickens. This causes less stress
NYC Kitten Rescue I already tried wrapping the pill up in both turkey and chicken cold cuts, but my cat won't touch it due to the smell of the pill (It smells like aspirin). Pill pockets isn't good for my cat due to the salt contents. I also tried the liquid form of the medicine that one puts in the cat's ear. But even that is difficult for me to do by myself. Just trying to hold his head still from lashing back and forth and trying to place the medicine in a specific area of the inner ear is difficult. Although I do appreciate your suggestions, I have already done a list of things. The only thing that I have been left to do, is to pay my vet every day for him to pill my cat at the vet's office.
Kaleo Yamane my old kitty is a fiesty girl when it comes to pills. as soon she sees a towel on the floor she gets her hooks out and trys to jump away. it requires 2 people to give her a pill. one to restrain her and one to give the pill
I know how you feel. I'm supposed to sprinkle contents of capsules on food. Cat will not eat it even though the vet said it has no smell or taste. Maybe not to humans but cats know better.
i think it takes two, is there no neighbour, no neighbour's child or teenager, friend or someone you could ask for help? It's not forever, so hopefully they would
My cat doesn't really like being hold and will scratch and try to run. My tactic was to be hyper agressive and really fast when giving him the pill. I tried being gentle ofcourse, to try and not harm him. I hold him on the bed and follow the video from memory. When the pill was in his mouth i just closed it until i saw the lick. I now have four scratch marks :D
I wish my cat was that calm. She would have wriggled out of that towel and clawed my hands red before you could say Calm down Kitty. I've tried disguising her tablets in different foods as well as trying to hold her still with my son helping. I don't know what to do, she's 15 years old with a gum infection it's hard to get her to eat anything lately because her mouth hurts. So she really needs these antibiotics.

@@my.jiminssiI did with a few war scars unfortunately. My cat broke loose somehow and I had to struggle with inserting the pill while she fought to close her mouth. horror scene, but she swallowed all of them!
What a sweet cat, and gentle vet.
my ginger tom cat Sinbad would have buckarooed his way out of that towel 20 seconds back, bolted out da cat flap, drooling & you wouldn't see him for a few hour's!
I just tried this with my black and white tom cat Jasper. He did this mad Houdini flip then took off at high speed.
Sally Hance hahaha.
@Camila Rodriguez thats a lot of cats
@ko ko why so many?
@ko ko So your asexual then?
I'm just kidding!
I'm convinced that in every one of these videos, the cat is as high as the Empire State Building. Just make it easy and tell me what you're giving him, I'll purchase it.
Pilling a cat, as I’ve attempted over 65 years, is like wrestling with the Devil...👹👿
I tried this method with my demon cat and it worked! Her pill was way too big so we had to cut in half and open her mouth twice in one go, but she did a great job and didn't bite or claw, even though she was desperate to get out of that burrito! Luckily, I had help to hold her and I handled the pill part. I had to hold her mouth shut for a long while, though, to get her to swallow, but she finally did. Thank you for the advice!
Instructions unclear. My cat gave me the pill instead. I'm fairly traumatized now. I do have to admit that the way she burritoed me in the towel felt kind of nice...
I can't give you enough upvotes, lol. I feel your pain!!! That was funny.
@@MrImaginationUnleash Unfortunately I had to put this baby down about a month ago 😓🥲 I'm glad I could give you a laugh though 🙂 I swear she could get out of any hold. She was a fighter. She was 15 so I have lots of memories with her ❤ Extremely sad she is gone but happy to have loved her
I watched several cat clips on cat care , and this girl does an awesome job!
But it never works
dawn dawn.......She is using the most passive cat I have ever seen. How is that helpful.......She should be using a cat who lashes out and hisses not a cat that looks as though it has smoked a joint. Doh
she makes it look so easy
This worked for me (and my cat tends to be a wriggler)! I coated the pill in butter first, and my cat was really good about swallowing it. She loves butter. Don't worry-- I know cats are lactose intolerant, so I only give her the tiniest bit and only on rare occasions.
Honestly a little bit of the bad for the greater good of the cat is worth it, I had a cat in my childhood who refused to drink when he got sick and was becoming really dehydrated so I put a few drops of milk in a small bowl of water to get him to drink and it worked, thankfully he recovered too
This is a colossal test of courage. I'd say hold my beer, but I think I'm going to need to down it to pull this off.
Yeah, just try to do that with my cat.
Exactly! I love to see them do this video with my cat. Keep it real! Most likely people who are looking for help is because their cat is difficult.
Wow, your kitty is so patient.
That cat was a paid actor
I find this technique works well when you have a helper to drop the pill in while you hold the cats mouth open. I got it to work just now and although my cat wasn’t as docile as this one it worked pretty well!
Holy Moly - If my cat was even half that calm I might have a "fighting" chance.
It's because most likely there's sedated
This cat is too good to be true. If i try this on my headstrong kitty, she will aim for my eyeballs.
My cat would try to kill me if he even suspects I'm into something, which is a problem of course.
Worked like a charm with our 4 month old British Shorthair. She fully cooperated 👍
Thank you for posting (8 years ago posting but still)
No cat is going to just sit there like that!
If you do a kitty burrito the cat correctly, as she shows in the last half of the video, the cat will have no choice. A second person may be needed if the cat puts up a terrific fight to be pilled.
They used a good cat for the demonstration. It's not that easy but that's how they do it.
Richard Johnson I think that pet has been pre pilled before this video.
My cat will sit there like that. Your actions as the owner determines the animal's behavior.
I use this method and never a problem ruclips.net/video/y9euUEcAIPk/видео.html
Thank you!!! The towel method is actually working, i get no more scratches 🥰
Aww.. I want a cat like that. So cooperative.. love love love.
Thank you!!! My cat is the exact opposite of cooperative, and I was still able to give her a pill.
That cats higher then Keith Richards
with you help I finally gave a pill to my cat. Thank You
This cat kinda seems CATatonic, alas, mine is a demon from hell
Same here.
Ninety nine percent of these cats are sedated trust me in these videos
Wait, we needed the “I’ll fight you” cat in this video.
My cat fights.
Works perfectly! I'm glad my cat is well behaved.
Mee jealous 😢
Works like a charm no struggles no pain thank you very much :)
Some medicine for cats are producing in this way
I'm trying this next.
I just did 2 cats with first method with deworming pill and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much!
Thanks! I just tried this on one of my cats with a tapeworm pill and had no issues.
Awe, thank you! What a gentleman!
thank god, i was having so much trouble giving pills to my chill relaxed cat that i needed this video. now to the mad one that likes to sink her claws into me, that one should be way easier
what a precious cat
Okay, so how do you do this after you get through step 1 and your cat's already mauled both your hands?
oh sweet calm baby. such a good assistant. great explaining and clear motions
Basil is so cooperative he must have been sedated first
Just use this towel wrap. So easy!! Worked perfectly!
Applause to the cat for being so calm during the video. Now watch my cat go all Exorcist on me when I try the same.
Thank GOD for this video! Had to give my cat the pill version of flea meds because we have super fleas apparently and this worked perfectly!
That second person should preferably be a SWAT officer or a competition bodybuilder.
We have 2 kittens and the kitten burrito worked perfectly for both. Thanks for posting this video.
These comments are great LOL!!! I'm taking my Effie to the groomers tomorrow and have to give her a cat Xanax beforehand so she doesn't go beserk like last time. I hope this works!
Thank you for posting this video. You've helped me during an emotionally difficult situation. I can't thank you enough for this help.
I used this method long ago and my cat is so easy to pill now bc of it ;) Great job :)
Give him a little pet made me cry somehow haha. More people need to love animals instead of harming them.
You couldn't pry open my cat's mouth with a crowbar. A vet with 20+ years experience with assistance from his vet tech couldn't open my cat's mouth. He had to be sedated.
I would die for this cat, tell him i love him so much
our cat would have been out the window long before, she can fly! i've seen her! like a jet!
That worked like a Charm.
Succes, hope it works for your cat too, it gives no stress to the cat and no stress for the owner.
unless the medicine is bitter, like how pepcid is...
Ohh this is smart
Problem: I have only one pill and if he smells the tablet underneath or doesnt lick it all off im in trouble
Tried with butter, worked, only once.
Can't do with some meds, talk to vet
Oh, if we could hear what Basil is saying! What a helpful cat he is.
It's not forever, so hopefully they would
I just used this technique on my kitten. After several attempts she finally swallowed her medicine thanks
OMG these posts are hilarious! LOL! I give up...my cat outsmarts me every time I try to pill him. It's useless...
This is great. But how do you get that cat near that towel the second time?
What a bundle of joy! The cute kitty hardly moved. My little one would have jumped of the table.
I tried this and my cat wanted to bite my fingers. Where's the valium.
Dionisio Iacobelli how u gonna get your cat to take the Valium lol
@@badabing2302 give the cat a valium before giving it a valium
I wish my cat was that calm. She would have wriggled out of that towel and clawed my hands red before you could say Calm down Kitty. I've tried disguising her tablets in different foods as well as trying to hold her still with my son helping. I don't know what to do, she's 15 years old with a gum infection it's hard to get her to eat anything lately because her mouth hurts. So she really needs these antibiotics.
How much Thorazine did you give that cat before the video?
Omg, the demo cat is so cute and patient! ❤️
