      @@halvertroberts9147 Why? Sorry but I disagree with supporting these dealers.
      Making a profit on someone else's design and rather poorly executed replicas at that.
      I do understand why so many are drawn to these replicas. Just wish people wouldn't pay these pirates for theft.
      Also , I took a look and would have to say the watches there are anything but super... They are actually pretty cheap attempts. A super clone will set you back much much more and people pay the silly price. And I wonder how they feel about spending so much on something so worthless?
      Each to their own.
      I will stick with the real deal and wear it with pride all while knowing I am supporting the real creators.
      And listen don't get mad , I am trying to convey my opinion which quite often could be taken out of context when it is all typed out.

      Have you thought of moving on from high end watches to breaking up, for example ,huge ships in Northern India. Now there is a hands-on prospect which would fulfil all your desires.
      Now I don’t want to get too political but nothing would give me more visceral pleasure than smashing President Trump’s edifices to pieces with a concrete wrecking ball. This might also satisfy your wanton urges.

    This is the watch I would have if money were no object. Although Patek makes highly regarded minute repeaters I think perpetual calendar chronographs are what they do best and not only would be fun to wear but in 20 years would be one of the few watches that will be worth more than what you paid for it. Unfortunately I would have to win the lottery to get one so will just have to admire from afar.

      The minute hand is even worse, on the underside! I couldn't believe it. at 1:18 in the video, if you look at the 2 o'clock marker (which is polished to a mirror) you can view the underside of the minute hand. It looks horrible. What on earth has happened, which allowed the most viewed, most important markers to be so poorly made? My guess is the following: The have decided to use a new material for the hands, which is light weight and thus better for efficiency than heavy gold hands would be. My guess is that it's aluminum which can fail at PVD coating quite easily. there's over 30 ways this process can go wrong, and it seems they don't care enough to refinish? www.researchgate.net/profile/Massimo_Lorusso2/publication/275616669_Failure_modes_of_PVD_coatings_in_molten_Al-alloy_contact/links/5729cdd808ae2efbfdbaff6a/Failure-modes-of-PVD-coatings-in-molten-Al-alloy-contact.pdf
      Edit: I take it back, it's just a polishing issue. There's no way it's aluminum coating, it's a pure gold, and they just skipped some steps. Because they can, and few who watch this are in the market.

    • @Yoshikaable
      @Yoshikaable 6 лет назад +11

      Agreed. Maybe they are using a new Al alloy which failed ? Why would they sell such a fail. So disappointed. I honestly never imagined this could be possible on a retail PP. Not that I was ever in the market but this is really a disappointment.

    It doesn't look any better than a Chinese automatic watch and barely keeps better time. It still can't compare to a Quartz in that regard.
    It doesn't matter how absolutely perfect it was put together or the quality of the components, the REAL reason it costs that much is because it's a status symbol and people will pay for it. That's not a knock on the quality. It's just that the quality isn't what makes it worth that much.
    The funny thing is that many people have never even heard of the brand and think Rolex is the epitome of watch luxury because they couldn't even imagine paying more than a few thousand for a watch.

There is no modern gadget (i.e. any "smartwatch") that can even dream to evoke in us the sense of awe, admiration, and respect for workmanship that we get from something like this... no amount of silicon, no amount of apps or features, no amount of RAM, CPU/GPU power, or storage capacity will ever cultivate in us the sense of love and wonder that we get from a timepiece like this one. He would have had his service at a PP Maison for sure, if he could afford it in the first place, keeping it running should be rather cheap. So it most certainly was a fault from PP either at service or brand-new, which honestly is embarrassing for the price.

      @@tommylopez8338 look tommy, noone will ever be able to overtake the Swiss in watchmaking, but one has to admit that there are a lot of reputable watchmakers out there, that put out some serious competition products, both German and French. However, my comment revolved on the idea of what is tipically and thoroughly German, in this particular case precision, extreme attention to detail and of course pride in ones job and product. The video ends with a question, and my comment was just a mere/very personal response to said question. Your response, on the other hand, revolves around historical facts, non related to watchmaking, but, since we got here, yes Germany lost 2 wars, I am not going to get into why and how, that is a very long discussion. Still even after 2 lost wars, it has the economical strength, heart power and brain will to lead Europe and "dictate" its evolutionary pace as the worlds second most powerful and influential country. So, yes tommy, the Swiss are the very best at watchmaking, but the Germans, they are the very very best at everything else! Cheers.

It's been fired thousands and thousands of times, poorly serviced, beaten to hell and back but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Say that about any other rifle. I was using it at the shooting range and some guys laughed and said it wouldn't hit anything... I should've bet money against them because well I shot full score with it. That gun will outlive me, my children, my grandchildren and probably even more generations. All it needs is to be cleaned now and then and have its stock oiled.

      Yes, but clearly the video is putting forth an argument as to why he believes it’s worth £125k. Pretty sure he knows the difference.

    • @tarcal87
      @tarcal87 6 лет назад +1

      No, the features he describes are what constitutes to why it costs that much to buy. It's an advanced piece of hardware, indeed. Whether it's _worth_ that at all is up to market trends, people's subjective opinions - if there weren't millionaires and billionaires around to spend that much on a watch, they would only cost a fraction. There is no putting forth any argument on why this would _worth_ 100k, that is subjective.
      A market analyst or psychologist could answer that question, and that wouldn't be a technical one.
      Anyway, catchy title, that's all.

    If money was no object I would be in line at A. Lange Sohne. While Patek is beautiful and strongly functional, the German engineering behind the Lange is superior in my mind. Besides the German Lange, goes with my BMW 550xi very very well. I love them both, but Lange is the one I’m going for...

    No matter of how you would like to see it, I am very certain that the price tag that goes with it is certainly very hard to swallow to most sensible and pragmatic people. I love mechanical and automatic movement watches very much but still there should be a cap to all these over inflated prices. No matter how decorated or advanced the movement is, it’s still not justifiable, period.

    The Patek Philippe 5270R is a marvel of mechanical watch technology. If the Patek Philippe 5270R doesn't lose 40% of its value after purchasing it then it is worth the $163,469 price. A luxury and exotic car of the same price depreciate more after purchasing them.

    What would I like in a wristwatch???
    Self winding chronograph with extra bright tritium vials: blue for the hours1 trough 11, red for the 12 hour, red for the hour hand, blue for both minute and second hands. No mechanical day, date, or day of the week... a small electronic readout that serves as; second time zone, stopwatch, countdown timer, perpetual calendar and alarm all back lit by a white tritium vial...all in a heavily gold plated titanium case with ratcheting bezel. No bracelet, just an assortment of black and brown leather bands to choose or switch out. The face in black photo voltaic solar powering the electronic bits with a rechargeable battery with a life of no less than 10 years. Waterproof to 100 meters or better. With sapphire back to enjoy the inner workings.
    Best,
    R.C. Christian

    Just to be clear when you say a Patek Philippe watches are "hand finished" you mean to say that the tools are guided by humans but they are using electric drills. There is a MASSIVE difference between using hand files for everything VS rotary wheels. The time it takes to finish the same component is more than doubled sometimes tripled. Still impressive but when you have even these high complications in hand you see many faults and messy mistakes in their finishing. Just to be clear even A Lange and Sohne is guilty of all of these things despite the hype they receive. These high complications represent the best Patek produces and even these are not finished to the best standards. When it comes to a watch of this price I expect more. Of course this watch is still impressive under any light you look at them under but I do expect more.
