As a die hard fan of the little mermaid, its hard for me to see this story as more than fanfiction. The movie is very clear about Ursula's intentions with the crown. She was banished for trying to overthrown Triton and endangering the lives of merpeople. All the people trapped in her lair are victims of her scheams and not because shes a tortured soul, but because she doesnt value other peoples lives. She sees them as pathetics and never regretted what she did. Triton even tho harsh and unreasonable, is a loving father who actually regrets his bad actions and gets to learn with Ariel and none of that wouldve happen if he was as discribed in this book.
She's also mentioned as his sister in an unused version of "Fathoms Below". Them being siblings is, and always has been, Canon. There are several pieces of media that support this, aside from the book mentioned here.
@@MyManOWarSmiles its a concept that was scrapped from the movie, so its not part of the story, nor is canon. It being on the musical or anyother media doesnt make it canon on the original movie because that was not presented there.
@@crazygamer_1082 its not canon because its not on the movie and not everyone will read these books nor where they written by the same people who made the movie. Just like the live action is a reinterpretation of the original movie so is this book
It was scrapped for time, not story purposes. It has been featured in several Disney approved/produced/released pieces of media. It's canon, whether you want it to be or not. Fortunately, your wants, wishes, thoughts and beliefs on this issue don't matter. -A life long, Die Hard Fan.
The book is a non-canon retelling/remake of backstories. The movie sequel and the tv prequel series provide real backstory for Ursula. She was a member of an enemy race of the merfolk (called the Cecaelia), she was not Triton's sister (that was the original idea that was dropped from the movie but kept in the stage musical). Ursula lived with her mother and sister (Morgana), and was dotted on by her mother while her sister was ridiculed. Ursula eventually tried to overthrow the royal family with her magic and was banished for it.
Except that was cheaply made and didn't feel consistent either. This doesn't too, don't get me wrong, but the sequel series didn't feel authentic. Ursula had a cheap, knock off sister with an inferiority complex....to a character who was as bitter as she was sadistic? The original outline of her character was enough. Her full past is ambitious, as an adult she was obviously a gifted magic user in Atlantis, she grew arrogant and more sadistic, until whatever relationship Ursula and Triton had fell apart after some 'close calls'. She was banished and she became bitter and more sadistic.
@@johnbloom-ramirez2092 It's still a retelling, just like their remakes are, and isn't canon with the original. The original's canon lore, continuity, and canonity was already established.
Honestly I think Triton should have been more welcoming to Ursula. Because Athena was kind to Ursula despite what she looked like. Triton is too set in his ways which only further estranged his relationship with Ursula and Ariel after Athena died.
Exactly. His strict unshakable ways to how things should be. They almost cost him kingdom and his daughter and it's truly sad that Ursula couldn't be saved.
Ursula was always Triton's sister even in the early scripts of the original movie. But, it was basically a sibling rivalry. Sort of. Basically, Ursula was a rebel and Triton was always telling on her to their parents. At least that's what it is in the Broadway show. She said something about "my goody-goody brother."
What doesn't convince me is what about Ursula sister Morgana from little mermaid 2? Remember when she said "you were always mother's favorite" & the infamous screaming to the sky "you proud of me now ma!?" Leaves a lot of unanswered questions here 🧐🤔
Yeah right... Why did she want to curse Ariel (who looks like her mother) if Athena was her "only friend". Also, in the third movie, the villain is Ursula's sister who claimed that her parents (mother?) showed favoritism towards Ursula. This sounds more like fanfic, or something that would come out of the "once upon a time" story.
That was the second movie where Ursula has a sister named Morgana, the third movie was about Triton being a killjoy and banning music from Atlantica after Athena's death. The closest we got to a villain in the third movie was some mermaid that resembled Ursula in terms of looks but she was just tasked with Triton to look after all of his daughters but always got foiled due to the girls seeking out music.
Honestly, after hearing the Little Mermaid Broadway cast album, I have been wanting the whole "Triton and Ursula are siblings" story. It makes sense of her motives. It makes her very similar to Scar in the Lion King. I know that there is Morgona in the sequel, but I'm not sure if that is officially seen as "Canon" and who knows, maybe they are half siblings? Maybe Posidon had a thing for Tentacles?
Or her being his ex fling or something. Maybe not siblings but triton and her once were lovers. And he had a secret kink for octopus looking mermaids but he was closeted about it.
ursula and triton being siblings makes sense because they seem to be the few that have any sort of power. they'd likely be half siblings, since morgana in the 2nd movie mentions being ursula's sister but no mention of being related to triton. so ursula would be half witch half god. and it doesn't necessarily need to be an tentacle lady getting it on with poseidon, although based on the 2nd movie, i do think that's the case. the gods could procreate with anything and it could result in anything, the creatures that came from the gods before the olympians had multiple arms and legs and eyes.
I just roll my eyes at this video and the Book. That book is more like fan fiction than canon. I think Triton was strict but I don't see him being as heartless as that writer seemed to make him. I think the author was working out some issues of their own in writing that. I accept that Ursula was his sister as she does mention in the movie she use to live in the palace at one time. But other disney movies and other works would essentially contridict this telling of it. There have been many "origin" ideas for Ursula, I actually liked the one that was in the Once Upon a Time tv show. But to each their own.
Actually in the animated series, there’s an entire race of octopins like her. I don’t even think they were related. Because Ursula had a mother and Morgana as a sister.
its just modern disney villain simp fanfictions, like cruella or maleficent. where they can't just let villians be villians, but they all need a "im bad because spelt milk excuse story". when the heros usually have a spelt milk tragic backstory as well.
It sounds like they walked straight into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Triton did everything he could to get rid of his young sister because he thought she was monstrous and would only become more of a monster over time. However, Triton's actions are what, in fact, directly led to Ursula being a vengeful sea witch, unwanted and exiled from not only humans but her own people as well!
Captain Hook(If he return the abducted children to their homes from Peter Pan), Hades, Ursula, Scar(If he did not go to the Egyptian God Set route). It is a missed opportunity for Scar and Hook to be misunderstood villains sheeeeessshh. I wish they were.
My problem with this is that Ursula has a younger sister named Morgana who was featured in the sequel. This book obviously doesn't make mention of her, so unfortunately I can't consider it cannon at all. Although it might make some sense for Triton and Ursula to possibly be related, Ursula already has a sibling and I believe her mother is mentioned (?), so it's unlikely to actually be truth
This is my interpretation, villains like true monsters are made. Ursula did not begin evil, events in her life shaped her. I feel sorry for her in the beginning. No one deserves to be removed from people who care for them and be shamed for how they look. The sad part is she allowed herself to be so negatively influenced by these events (it'd be hard not to) that it created a permanent negative relationship with her niece. A child who was half her brother, half her friend. I wish she could have had a happy relationship with Ariel but Triton had to be the stopping force in that.
In this story, yes. In real life, some people are just villains. There’s something wrong with their brains. It would take exceptional circumstances and precognition to mold them into non-villains.
@@evilsharkey8954 fair point. Some it might take a little nudge to get them to show their full potential as villains other no motivator needed. It's just with how she is described in this particular video it seems to be a molded by outside influence angle.
I don’t think the lady who wrote the book had anything to do with Disney. If you recall Ursula had a sister and a mother. I guess the mother treated Ursula better so I’m assuming there was a lot of jealousy between the two? And she also mentions that there was a time she lived in the palace. I’m guessing she did rule atlantica at some point. I’m betting she abused her power and King Triton couldn’t completely banish her so he kept her close to protect the ocean ?
This story is a fan fic that goes against the entire little mermaid cannon. In the animated series she was apart of the octopins. There’s a whole race of them waging war against Atlantica. She gives them lesser tridents to use against the merfolk in battle, but they were beaten back by a merman named Apollo.
Hmm, should we think Triton is the antagonist? Well notice that Ursula succeeded on first turning Triton into a polyp and finally getting his trident and crown. Meaning Triton did treat Ursula bad first, not the other way around. And what about Morgana Ursula's sister?
Exactly Athena was the only one who treated Ursula with respect and treated her like any other creature. Athena also stood up to Triton alot about the way he was.
Yeesh. That is now TWO Disney movie villains with sibling issues. I'm starting to wonder if Disney has a personal vendetta against siblings being nice to each other and helping each other out.
@@Mark73 Actually, there are a myriad of Disney villains who have issues with their siblings. The most prominent ones I can think of are Scar from _The Lion King,_ Hades from _Hercules,_ and Elsa from _Frozen._ Scar hated Mufasa because of being second in getting the throne due to Simba's birth, Hades wasn't much of a fan of his job of being the God of the underworld (which in the movie, Zeus gave him that job), and Elsa was afraid of her powers so much so that she shut herself off from all contact with Anna after injuring her as a child. There's probably more that I'm not aware of, but I honestly don't remember a Disney movie where siblings have ever been sweet to one another.
After hearing the video, I have to say that this incarnation of Ursula’s backstory is very sad and while I do believe that King Triton wasn’t right in what he did or how he treated his sister, the book’s purpose is to support and only show Ursula’s perspective. We don’t know Triton’s full side of the story.
As interesting as this was, I don't find it canon. While yes Triton and Ursula were supposed to be siblings in the original film, they decided to cut that part leaving them as non related sea folks. Then in the sequel, it's shown Ursula had a whole different family with a mother and sister similar to her in species. The book feels more like a retcon to her story and relationship to Triton. Love the video though
Yes, there was a comic that confirmed this. They grew up together as children and when they were young, the king gave Triton the trident and Ursula her shell locket. Upon the kings death and Triton being king, Ursula lost her mind and started to show her true form and was banished from the kingdom
i think Triton have a lot of problems him self, control issues or jealousy maybe, to think that he would immediate exile his sister right after the passing of his loved one which is also the only one stopping him from kicking Ursula out. Ursula story is tragic, and personally i don't think that is how she should be treated, how ever it does not give her the free pass to do some or multiple bad things. i believed that there might be a possibility that if Triton have not kick Ursula out or even have an ounce of love for his sister, they might accept each other and have a better family bond over mourning over wife and a best friend. this back story of Ursula, for me personally, kindda relate to reality. it shows how messed up our society is. Again this is just personal opinion.
In another video you talked about how Ursula had a mother loved her more than Morgana and a bunch of sisters through Psiden. But here you say that she spent her early childhood with an adopted father and lived in a village in which she was out of place and the population eventually hated her because of her looks. I don't understand how these stories go together if they do. Could you please explain it so it will make more sense.
I feel like it's honestly much akin to the Greek mythologies where in trying to prevent some future disaster the characters of the story inevitably create it through their very actions. He thought she'd be some kinda way so in trying to just get rid of her to prevent that he actually pushed her on the path to be exactly what he feared most. If it WAS a Greek mythology she would have overthrown him for real though.
How come Ursula was raised by a human adoptive father ? Didn't Morgana (from the little mermaid 2 ) clearly said that Ursula was their mother's favourite, which then indicates that she was raised by her mother instead? 🤔
Honestly, the novel is fanfiction, negated by details from the first move and the second. Behind the scenes of the first movie is the details that she was Tritons sister (removed from final product) And the second one, Morgana implies that her and Ursula were raised together.
Honestly , I have always thought that Triton and Ursula had once been lovers (but Ursula was more interested in the throne) and that Athena's arrival not only brought "her love" , but also she messed up her plans, later being banished from the kingdom. That's why I thought Ursula was so angry with Triton and Ariel, who looks so much like her mother ..
Honestly Triten being agressive and shallow is believable considering how he acts towards Ariel and how he treats everyone in the kingdom. There is strong hints of his authoritative attitude.
You mean Authoritarian not Authoritative, they’re different. An authoritarian is someone who wants to 100% control and command those below them, but an authoritative person leads by setting rules, communicating and connections with those around them.

I figured something happened to make Ursula that way. I don't believe Queen Athena is dead. Maybe she was severely injured in is still in that cove or the pirates captured her. They never showed her dying. They just show her going up.
We are forgetting that Ursala has a younger sister named Morgana from the second little mermaid movie. So, that paints tritain as an even worse brother because apparently Morgana was banished as well
I saw the play put on by Stage Crafters when I lived in Florida of The Little Mermaid. Which told me who actually killed Ariel's mom. It wasn't humans who killed Athena it was Ursula.
Knowing someone's back story is one thing. That doesn't negate that person's decisions later in life. Ursula could've made much better decisions on how she dealt with Triton. Even if Athena was no longer in the picture. One was to prove her worth despite her physical appearance. Not to Triton, but to the other mer-people. Since her decision was to enact revenge, she is still the villain who forced Triton into sacrificing himself for his daughter. That doesn't make Triton anyone's hero despite what Ursula did to her brother and niece. He's actually a freaking bigot from beginning to end. That doesn't make Ursula a victim. It just makes her blinded by her own vengeance. Which still would've ended in her own destruction.
That's honestly how villains are made. It's not completely their fault. The world just rejects them and hurts them for no reason and they are left with no one but themselves to fend for - alone.
I hate when heros automatically assume that oh there the bad guy because there my enemy, but they aren’t, the big key is perspective, if you see each persons perspective then you’ll see there’s not always a bad guy in the story, personally I think I side with the villains more because there back story’s , oh my gosh they should’ve gotten help , and sometimes the back story’s are more relatable than the “heros”
King Triton always just had that "dominant daddy" personality in him since the beginning of time. And Queen Athena seems to really have enjoyed her short submissive life with a dominant daddy that has a huge trident.
i dont belive this, if ursula had good relationship with ariels moms, she would never have done that to ariel. because of the huge resemblance ariel has to her
The new book about Úrsula seems to rewrite her backstory quite a bit, as the sequel to The Little Mermaid reveals that she has a sister, Morgana, who is also half octopus. The sequel also demonstrates that Morgana is evil mostly because their mother loved Ursula, the more evil sister, more than Morgana. To prove her own worth to her dead mother, Morgana is attempting to finish what Ursula couldn’t and become the final monarch of Atlántica.
They were always supposed to be siblings in the animated movie as well. The bit about Ursula's relationship to Triton was cut out of the opening song for pacing reasons and to help us get to the undersea quicker.
Of course Triton was right ! Ariel is the undeniable proof for that! Ariel isn't just Triton's Daughter, she is also Athena's Daughter and she was the one most like her Mother, this book only confirmed that Ursula was a Monster even more, no because of her being an octopus or her abilities but because apparently Athena was a true friend to her the only one she had in fact, and despite Ariel reminding so much of her Mother Ursula still didn't hesitate even once!

If they were siblings then their father is most likely Poseidon the God of the sea, so these stories should have more connections with Greek mythology and so the idea of them sharing the throne is laughable. Really comes off as fanfiction (and not the popular type), I'm sure there are other stories out there painting Ursala as an even more evil character then the movie, she may be a villain that is liked, but I think it's more "like to hate" and not the kind of "like" where we want her to change, be good, and live happily ever after because if that happened she wouldn't be the character we all like.
So Ursula is raised by her adoptive father in a human village, Triton raised by his parents in a kingdom, and Ursula's other half sister raised by their mother.
Like many mythologies, it was a self fulfilling prophecy. King Triton saw her becoming a horrible creature so set her on the path to do so without realizing it. Often times, people make their own worse enemies.
I read those books and I love them. ESPECIALLY the one with Maleficent, Mistress of Evil. I personally felt that plot with the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora was a better concept that the movie.
The thing that I believe in that the way premonitions works is they do show the future but it only shows you just enough to set you towards that future
So, King Triton prediction that Ursula was going to be a villain was a self fulfilled prophecy. He set into motion to turn Ursula 'evil' since she was a baby. Yes, Triton was 'right' all along because from the unset, he made sure to be right.
villains are never born evil they are made. by the way people treat them, that being said if Athena was still around im sure Ursula would not be the villain that she became. as far as the second movie i think Ursula found some other octomerpeople that she became a family with becoming like a half sister to the octomer in the other little mermaid movie.
Interesting spinoff plot to her book. I'm curious though what the original 1989 film writers would have originally put. Example: Ursula says "In my day, we had fantastical feasts when I lived in the palace." She made digs at "fish folk" & the mer people regarded her as an evil sea witch, even though some kept going to her & princess Ariel. But where did she learn that stuff? Ursula couldn't have been the only octopus being. There may have been other octopus witch beings who lived lavishly at the palace too, since she acts so snobbish, but dwindled down, were frowned upon.
I think it's the mob mentality from her environment that forced her hand to be the way she was. Not only did people push her away but her own brother did as well. Her suffering wasn't meant to define her, but after being alone for so long there is only so much one can take.
My thoughts are shame on Triton he didn’t deserve to be king. That being said we all have our choices to make and although Ursula was dealt a bad hand it was up to her to make her choices. Ultimately she was the one who chose to be bitter and act on revenge that lead to her death. You can either fall to the trenches or rise above them and be better. Was Triton right? If he saw her change even unchecked then perhaps he was however at that point he was also responsible because he could have prevented it. Perhaps what he really saw was her gaining the crown and didn’t like it. However my question is how young were they and if he was a child then the timeline is a bit off
Neither were right (Triton and Ursula) yet neither were wrong either. It's kind of like a self-fulfilling-prophesy type situation. Triton sends her away and never gets along with her (refusing to almost) thinking she was a monster and would always be a monster, but in doing so Created the monster she would become. While Ursula was also in a difficult spot because of the tragedy that happened to her father.Which basically caused her to start to snap, and then losing her one friend and being banished in a short time only finished the process. But if I had to pick which sibling it all boiled down to as having started it: it would be Triton for getting rid of Ursula as a baby just because of the way she looked.
Remember when Triton (I think) killed her two eels? The two creatures that must have been the only thing that keep her from turning into a giant and cause war and deaths to the kingdom?.... She was so upset and depressed that she turned into a giant and died at the end 😔
From my point of view, it would have been different Ursula and I can't say for sure if she'd still be evil. I'm sure she'd be angry and feel disappointment towards her brother and who knows if she would have been a good aunt to Ariel and her sisters if she grew up with her real family.
I love the little mermaid my favorite Disney movie. Deep down inside I knew Triton and Ursula were siblings but I didn't know how messed up their story was. I feel bad Ursula to be honest.
I feel like this retcons information from the second movie. Where she has a sister who swears revenge and talks about how she was their mothers favorite.
I like the facts, but where does Morgana fit in then, because in the little mermaid two, she always said that her mother use to pick on her why can't she be more like Ursula. Did her mother give her up or something, because that movie just screamed rival sisters who seem to know each other very well and a mother who always pit them against each other. Why can't you be more like your sister. and who her favorite child was.
Um, separate moms and lack of continuity in lieu of more money. That movie was a cash grab, plain and simple, made no sense, and imo, shouldn't be considered to be Canon.
I don't understand how the animated Disney series for the Little Mermaid reveals she's an octopus person.... there's even evil manta people. Ariel does however say at the end of the series that her and the merpeople are half humans.
For this plot line to even be feasible, it would have to include Morgana (Ursula’s sister from the sequel). Where was she in this battle for the throne?👀. Furthermore, is Ursula and Morgana are the aunt and great aunt of Ariel and Melody (respectively), why not appeal to them on a familial level to manipulate as well?🤔
I think the real villian was Triton for causing the whole problem in the first place by sending Ursula away as a baby. He created the "evil" he sensed in her himself out of his own greed for solo power thus causing the evil he claimed he was trying to keep his kingdom from.
And I think the real villain is the author of the book, who ignored the canon from both the sequel and prequel TV show, just to show "mEN bad, waHMeN POOR 🤡" This way Ursula lost any kind of agency to her actions and became a miserable, spiteful HAES activist. Seriously? Seriously? Let women be bad. Let women be evil. We don't need "evIL mEn" to push us to madness, do we? Or are we little girls who always need an excuse to do anything in their lives? Triton did nothing wrong.

I think “Disney Villains: Poor Unfortunate Soul” is like “Disney’s Twisted Tale: Poor Unfortunate Souls” (the “what-if” sequel to the first movie where Ursula had won and Ariel was stuck mute for 5 years). They’re not cannon stories but written with the blessing of Disney
I say we should feel bad for Ursula. Yes, she turned out a villain just like he thought she would. But he was the one who drove her to villainy. It was a self fulfilling prophecy, and he saw it through.
This book looks like feminist fanfiction. Aside from it completely contradicting the movies (all of them), it seems to push the "man is bad" line of reasoning. I'm sure Ursula's personality and troubles did stem from family issues but I refuse to believe she's related to Triton purely because it would have meant he was always a villain.
I prefer the animated series implied backstory that Ursela was, at one point, the queen of the sea by virtue of her magical powers, and Triton overthrew _her_ in order to liberate the people of Atlantica.
I have read both this book & every book in this series except the recent captain hook book " never never" & honestly I cried after reading poor unfortunate soul: a tale of the sea witch & hearing how horrible Triton was to Ursula, I saw him as the true villian & Ursula as just a antagonist. Athena's death was something that affected Ursula when taking Ariel's voice as she didn't want to hurt athena's daughter because of how deep her friendship was with ariels mother. She had to focus in her pure rage & hate for Triton to do what she needed. I 100% think we should feel bad for Ursula. She had been hated all her life & in mistress ofvall evil( maleficent book) they showcase ursulas funeral & all the sea prinsessses attended it( Triton knew he was not welcome) which is her final resting place she could live in peace.
Yeah, I don't feel bad for people who use innocent people to get back at others. Imagine your enemy harming your kid because they want to get back at you.
In the Disney stage musical Ursula and Triton are siblings and was banished for abusing her power. She wanted to get her ‘rightful place’ on the throne back from her brother. I always liked that take the best.
The little mermaid 2 and 3 contradict this theory. In the little mermaid 2, Morgana is Ursula's sister and was favored over their mother. If they were all siblings, why would Morgana only complain about Ursula and not also triton? Even in the original story, the sea witch was just a sea witch who lived on the outside of the kingdom.
I always felt bad for Ursula even without the backstory. Just imagine if you were her. You’d be extremely massively obese, meaning both terrible health and everyone treating you worse (which we even see by the horrified reactions of her wedding guests when she ditches the Vanessa disguise!) You’d actually help Ariel by getting her to land, but then end up getting stabbed by a boat for involving yourself! Poor Ursula...
@@junagag.2929 ah yes more bashing body positivity advocacy as if anyone needs to be demonized just cause of how they look seriously are you just some massively excessively shallow misogynistic woman hater or what??
For people who doesn't understand how this story can relate to Triton, Ursula and Morgana here is explanation. Posidon had crush on Ursula's mother. And that how Ursula was born. But he could not be with her to royal duty and preferred Triton's mother and baby Triton. Mother of Ursula started hating him and some hate was given to Ursula too. Then she found man and she told Ursula that is her father (basically stepfather). Meanwhile Ursula's mother got another daughter with someone when Ursula's stepfather died. Younger Morgana was born. But because Ursula's mother still loved but hated Poseidon she gave more live to Ursula then Morgana and how sister riot is started. Everything is clear.
Triton made her into the monster she became. He’s definitely a villain, for sure. But I wish they could have tried to patch things up, regardless- (family therapy?)
I think that Ursula worked in the kingdom at some point as a trusted advisor like jafar but was banished for using magic against their own or trying to gain more power by over throwing the kingdom the sister morgana maybe had something to do with it long ago as well making Ursula evil or maybe she was suppose to be the love interest instead of Athena never know but Ursula was the best villain
I think if this storyline is true, then Triton self-fulfilled his own prophecy. Ursula never would’ve become what she did if she was banished to the human world in the first place, only to then be rejected upon discovering her true self only to then be rejected by her true family. I understand that Triton wanted to protect the kingdom from the monster he foresaw, but in attempting said protection he created the very monster he sought to get rid of. It’s the same with the story of Oedipus in Greek mythology. His father was told a prophecy he’d be killed by his own son. So in order to prevent it he sent his son away. Only to be killed by him anyway in a twist of fate when they met on a trail and argue and then fought, not knowing who they were to each other, so the prophecy came true anyway. Had he not sent his son away it wouldn’t’ve happened.

Were Ursula and her family living in Atlantica at the time of her banishment?
Except that was cheaply made and didn't feel consistent either. This doesn't too, don't get me wrong, but the sequel series didn't feel authentic. Ursula had a cheap, knock off sister with an inferiority complex....to a character who was as bitter as she was sadistic?
The original outline of her character was enough. Her full past is ambitious, as an adult she was obviously a gifted magic user in Atlantis, she grew arrogant and more sadistic, until whatever relationship Ursula and Triton had fell apart after some 'close calls'. She was banished and she became bitter and more sadistic.
But this story is cannon. Disney published it. 🤷🏼♂️

Honestly I think Triton should have been more welcoming to Ursula. Because Athena was kind to Ursula despite what she looked like. Triton is too set in his ways which only further estranged his relationship with Ursula and Ariel after Athena died.
This proves that some villains are victims of circumstance

Mr. Oogway was a wise turtle
So where does Ursula's sister Morgana fit into this? Would love a theory on that!

What doesn't convince me is what about Ursula sister Morgana from little mermaid 2?

Leaves a lot of unanswered questions here 🧐🤔
Yeah right...
Ariel was Triton's favorite daughter... Ursula was bitter... Triton was not kind to her she simply wanted revenge
@@Neku628 the prequel THIRD movie the little mermaid Ariel’s beginning 2008
As Triton said “I know what monster you will become” that’s not him being a “Villan” that’s him protecting his people!
So are we just supposed to ignore the existence of Ursula's sister Morgana. You know from the sequel Little mermaid 2 return to the sea?
Honestly, after hearing the Little Mermaid Broadway cast album, I have been wanting the whole "Triton and Ursula are siblings" story. It makes sense of her motives. It makes her very similar to Scar in the Lion King. I know that there is Morgona in the sequel, but I'm not sure if that is officially seen as "Canon" and who knows, maybe they are half siblings? Maybe Posidon had a thing for Tentacles?
It wouldn't be surprising. Poseidon, Zeus, etc. a lot of those gods had half God children with many creatures.
I mean, he sure had a thing for cyclops so it could be possible
Or her being his ex fling or something. Maybe not siblings but triton and her once were lovers. And he had a secret kink for octopus looking mermaids but he was closeted about it.
How could the sequel not be canon ? Lol
ursula and triton being siblings makes sense because they seem to be the few that have any sort of power. they'd likely be half siblings, since morgana in the 2nd movie mentions being ursula's sister but no mention of being related to triton. so ursula would be half witch half god. and it doesn't necessarily need to be an tentacle lady getting it on with poseidon, although based on the 2nd movie, i do think that's the case. the gods could procreate with anything and it could result in anything, the creatures that came from the gods before the olympians had multiple arms and legs and eyes.
Soooo the fact that Morgana was always jealous of Ursula because their mom favored Ursula fits into this how?
I just roll my eyes at this video and the Book. That book is more like fan fiction than canon. I think Triton was strict but I don't see him being as heartless as that writer seemed to make him. I think the author was working out some issues of their own in writing that. I accept that Ursula was his sister as she does mention in the movie she use to live in the palace at one time. But other disney movies and other works would essentially contridict this telling of it. There have been many "origin" ideas for Ursula, I actually liked the one that was in the Once Upon a Time tv show. But to each their own.
This reminds me of Wicked
Wasn't Ursula just like the palace fortune teller or something?
Actually in the animated series, there’s an entire race of octopins like her. I don’t even think they were related. Because Ursula had a mother and Morgana as a sister.
its just modern disney villain simp fanfictions, like cruella or maleficent. where they can't just let villians be villians, but they all need a "im bad because spelt milk excuse story". when the heros usually have a spelt milk tragic backstory as well.
My thoughts exactly. The author was definitely having an issue with men when writing this fan fiction 😂

Okay, I absolutely love the relationship between Athena and Ursula. I feel so bad for the two of them.
Exactly Athena was the only one who treated Ursula with respect and treated her like any other creature. Athena also stood up to Triton alot about the way he was.
This cannot be Canon because in the sequel morgana says Ursula was theyre mothers favourite
Yeesh. That is now TWO Disney movie villains with sibling issues. I'm starting to wonder if Disney has a personal vendetta against siblings being nice to each other and helping each other out.
Who's the other one?
She went through trauma, although it's sad, it doesn't give you an excuse to ruin the lives of so many other merpeople.
Yes, there was a comic that confirmed this. They grew up together as children and when they were young, the king gave Triton the trident and Ursula her shell locket.
Upon the kings death and Triton being king, Ursula lost her mind and started to show her true form and was banished from the kingdom
I believe that is the Broadway show version time-line.
That sad
Knowing Disney, they COULD make an Ursula Film in the future 💛
Umm actually Ursula is not a mermaid, but a cecaelia, a species that is half-human and half-octopus. Just to be clear.
True
i think Triton have a lot of problems him self, control issues or jealousy maybe, to think that he would immediate exile his sister right after the passing of his loved one which is also the only one stopping him from kicking Ursula out.
Yep exactly what I thought
How come Ursula was raised by a human adoptive father ? Didn't Morgana (from the little mermaid 2 ) clearly said that Ursula was their mother's favourite, which then indicates that she was raised by her mother instead? 🤔
This is just some bad fanfic
Honestly, the novel is fanfiction, negated by details from the first move and the second.
Behind the scenes of the first movie is the details that she was Tritons sister (removed from final product)
And the second one, Morgana implies that her and Ursula were raised together.

Ursula is one of my favorite villains and King Triton is still a good guy in my book!
And Queen Athena seems to really have enjoyed her short submissive life with a dominant daddy that has a huge trident.
i dont belive this, if ursula had good relationship with ariels moms, she would never have done that to ariel. because of the huge resemblance ariel has to her
Hmm so if Athena was still alive, Ariel would've probably gotten her legs by just asking her parents. 🤔
They were also siblings in the musical. Happy that wasn't changed.

So does that mean that Ursulas younger sister Morgana is also Tritons younger sister?
So Ursula is raised by her adoptive father in a human village, Triton raised by his parents in a kingdom, and Ursula's other half sister raised by their mother.
I feel bad for ursal. Maybe things should have been different, and maybe she wouldn't have turned into a villain.
So King Triton is the villain in Ursula’s story.
Ursula is one of my favorite villains
Ariel was the one that killed the eels!
Athena wasn't murdered. It was a horrible accident when she was trying to rescue one of her daughters
poor Ursula...
Mermaids not being allowed to go to the surface wouldn't be what Athena wanted.
I would debunk Captain Hook killing Athena only because they were actually in Neverland and not Denmark, if that's where Ariel came from.
I don't understand how the animated Disney series for the Little Mermaid reveals she's an octopus person.... there's even evil manta people. Ariel does however say at the end of the series that her and the merpeople are half humans.
Poor Ursula, her origin is too sad and unfair for her, she can be good if only the people around can empathy and support her, on land and in the sea.
Congrats on 100k🥳🙌
Thank you!
2:45 um..also if anyone listened to the Little Mermaid on Broadway soundtrack, during the song Sweet Child, Ariel refers to Ursula as "Aunt Ursula"
Honestly I wish Disney made a back story movie for Ursula instead
Would have been an awesome movie
And I think the real villain is the author of the book, who ignored the canon from both the sequel and prequel TV show, just to show "mEN bad, waHMeN POOR 🤡"
This way Ursula lost any kind of agency to her actions and became a miserable, spiteful HAES activist. Seriously? Seriously? Let women be bad. Let women be evil. We don't need "evIL mEn" to push us to madness, do we? Or are we little girls who always need an excuse to do anything in their lives?

I think “Disney Villains: Poor Unfortunate Soul” is like “Disney’s Twisted Tale: Poor Unfortunate Souls” (the “what-if” sequel to the first movie where Ursula had won and Ariel was stuck mute for 5 years). They’re not cannon stories but written with the blessing of Disney
I didn't know that King Triton and Ursula are silbings I thought maybe they used to be friends at one point and King Triton started to hate Ursula
I say we should feel bad for Ursula. Yes, she turned out a villain just like he thought she would. But he was the one who drove her to villainy. It was a self fulfilling prophecy, and he saw it through.
This sounds like a fanfiction that a teen girl would write.
So does that mean Morgana (the villain from Little Mermaid 2: Return to the sea) is also King Triton’s sister too?
I always liked that take the best.
this actually makes sense since the original script of the movie had them being siblings
Ah, yes. More body positivity advocacy. As if anyone needs it...
According you to a deleted scene the little mermaid 2 Ursula was raised by her mother.
I feel bad for her. She should deserve better
