I agree, that last song is awesome!! Honestly these three are the best on the record. I really don't like unpopular but it is what it is. I'm excited to see what they have in the future.
If “I want to live” and “Dead inside” by skillet had a baby it would be “fire inside of me”. Love the whole album but fire inside of me is just incredible
I like that they cut a visual of the guitar solo into the lyric video in Not Afraid. I dig that one, I like the cadence of the vocals. I've not listened to a ton of Skillet, but I do like some John Cooper hot takes now and again!
Skillet is my favourite band so I probably like some of the new music a lot more than other people 😂got Revolution on CD already I wouldn't say this album was one of my new top favourites, I'd rank it at #4 just above Rise cause I was hoping for more heavier songs like Dominion so I maybe was a tad bit disappointed, but overall it's still solid. Not Afraid is amazing and easily my favourite, Showtime and Fire Inside of Me I also loved and Ash In The Wind is quite good as well. I need to listen to the rest of it more for it to properly grow on me but I'm giving them a bit of grace since it's their first independent album and they did experiment a bit as John said.
Skillet hasn't really been my favorite band in terms of albums. I like plenty of their more popular banger songs but most of all it's their live performances that really make it for me. I got to see them over the summer and they rocked hard. They just know how to put on a great concert and that's mostly why I like them. That being said, I'll have to check out the new album, since I haven't done that yet.
This 3 song reaction was pretty good Im not the biggest fan of this band but i do like some of thier songs i think since they are independent now they have a little more freedom to make what the fans want as well as what they want they have been in the music space game for a very long time, If i was going to say waht genre blend they have it would be alt/pop with a sprinkle touch of post hard-core bc of the baby screams they do and thsts good for the audience they have built up dont want to alienate them Im sure if they come out swinging for the fences and make a post metalcore song it would bring some fans in and some walk away, these songs it seems like a toght balance of everything they have done in the past so its awesome is my take.
Two quick comments: "Unpopular" is not political, it speaks to the culture. In regards to the "sss" issues, as a classically trained singer myself, John Cooper has the absolute best diction of any rock singer ever. This is largely due to the influence of his mother, a classically trained singer. She taught John how to sing and play piano as a child. I love being able to understand his lyrics. Also, the album has other great songs on it, such as Revolution, Showtime and Death Defier. Happy Wedding Day is beautiful. Bring tissues.
I have heard his interviews now since Unpopular released, I appreciate his meaning more though he also admitted why he can see people are turned off by thinking it is political. I think the timing of the release only inflated those opinions. The "sss" sibilance, I didn't mean his diction. The diction is good and you can hear everything he says. I mean more on the production side. It's likely more the microphones they use specifically, mixed with some post production, like the compression. It's possible to "de-esser" some of those moments, while keeping the clarity in the voice. Sadly, modern Skillet is one of the few bands I have ever heard that this bugs me on. It was most prevalent with Rise in 2013.
Yeah I watched some interviews with John afterwards where he explained that. It definitely makes it a bit better for me after hearing his explanation. Though he still acknowledged how people can be taking it politically.
Chris, I agree with you, brother. I think the best one was fire inside me. Number 3, that's the one that hit home for me. That's the one that definitely hit the hartist. And. Skillet has always been fine with me. But I'm more along the lines of your taste when it comes thrkung. Fu oh hardcore metal in general, Christian music. I prefer the harder stuff. You know over a band like skillet, but I'm also eclectic. When it comes musically, I can listen to just about anything except for opera. I can't get. Into that and you probably agree with me on that, but. Fire inside of me was definitely the one in my opinion. Great video brother as please. You're a true blessed annoying to us in the Christian social media woand I thank you and God bless you God speak to you and your? In jesus lane
I haven't, however I've heard a lot of his podcast, I know all that he is about. And like I said in the video, it's not that I disagree with it, it just makes the lyrics come across meh in my personal taste
It’s cringy for this guy for John to be signing about riots that came within blocks of his home in Kenosha. WHAT?!?! I hope you see this comment and respond, because I’m assuming you don’t know what happened. I hope you see this and retract your statement about that being “cringy”. He’s singing about something that personally happened to him
I've been listening pretty much since the beginning. For this being the first "independent" album, it is weak. The wedding song should have been a single and left off of the album. Feels like an album full of stadium type anthems. 3 out of 5
Heard the whole record a week ago, but I wasn't exactly thrilled. It's not horrible, but it's not heavy enough for me. I'm starting to gravitate away from them in particular because of the political slant. Politics is too much of a divisive issue in today's society, and, while I do believe folks, regardless of who they are, should be granted the right to express their opinions freely, I also believe it can bring out the worst in people. There are some decent tracks here, but I'm not getting a copy.
Because I do like their music. They were once my favorite band and I still love some of their records. I'm giving their record a fair shake. Would you rather I didn't listen at all and think that it was bad? Or actually hear it and offer my thoughts. I don't hate it. It has grown on me a smidge since recording this. Still bought a copy. But a band that has a much higher success rate and one of the biggest Christian bands of all time should be held to a standard and ask if they deserve the success while there could be talented bands that are making way better music, but don't see the results.
Fire Inside of Me is the best Skillet song to come out in the last 10 years and I’ll die on that hill
🤟💯💯💯
thank you! Defector is my #1 fav. Best produced old school song on this album. Epic. Emotional.
They need to do a music video for Fire Inside of Me!
Agreed, that one would actually be hype!
As a huge Skillet fan, this is one of the best albums in a long time imo! Fire Inside of Me and Showtime are my favorite on the album fs.
I agree, that last song is awesome!! Honestly these three are the best on the record. I really don't like unpopular but it is what it is. I'm excited to see what they have in the future.
Yeah there wasn't too much on the record that stood out. Maybe Death Defier?
@@ForTheRock yeah that one is pretty good

I think you're right about that about that i believe that sound was was awake❤
This album has everything from each album since comatose you love.
Skillet 🍳 always comes through to save your local Christian radio station.
😂🤟
@@ForTheRockdeath defier is another insanely good one after not afraid in my opinion
Estou ouvindo Fire inside of me em looping. Que música! 🤌🏻
Forgot to say, the guitar in the verses are very collide album esque
My skillet songs are 1, Surviving the game. 2, not afraid. 3, feel invincible. 4, death defier. 5, Unbreakable soul.
lol
Find it awesome that Unbreakable Soul is in ur top 5!
Skillet is my favourite band so I probably like some of the new music a lot more than other people 😂got Revolution on CD already

Where’s defector? That’s the best one 🎉
had to pick a few at random, didn't do the whole record!

Okay...they said it was NOT about politics! If I remember correctly it was about "your" soul.
Yeah I watched some interviews with John afterwards where he explained that. It definitely makes it a bit better for me after hearing his explanation. Though he still acknowledged how people can be taking it politically.
@@ForTheRock Yeah without context and the time when it came out makes it hard not to see it that way :(

Not trying to be mean, but the music video has literally nothing to do with the song itself…
Felt like this needed to be said
This is a pretty good album, but Death Defier is the banger!
I'm guessing you haven't read Coopers last book? If not you need to
I haven't, however I've heard a lot of his podcast, I know all that he is about. And like I said in the video, it's not that I disagree with it, it just makes the lyrics come across meh in my personal taste

If you just dont like their music, why listen? And why complain for over 20 minutes
Because I do like their music. They were once my favorite band and I still love some of their records.
