@@johnrob3215 Alot of people feel that way about Tom Cruise they have a hard time separating his real life from his characters. He has never caged me up in his back yard wearing just a Speedo, so I have no problems with his acting.

I think the only other real "Comedy" movie that Tom Cruise has been in was Goldmember, where he was playing the on screen movie version of Austin Powers, and it was only a few seconds.
We've been missing out on 40 years of him being funny. He's always been cast in serious roles. He has some untapped potential for comedy.
"I don't drop character 'til I've done the DVD commentary"
Funniest thing is he did it. The DVD commentary for this movie has Robert Downey Jr still doing the Lincoln Osiris voice, then he does the Kirk Lazarus voice, then it finally ends with him doing his real voice.
I had the DVD for this movie and please believe me when I tell you that watching the movie with the commentary on with Stiller, Black and Downey Jr was even funnier. They were all great, but RDJ was off the hook from start to finish. The shit that came out of his mouth on the fly was a riot. I cannot recommend it to you enough.
And just as he says in the movie, he doesn’t go back to his own voice until the end of the commentary.

If you want more RDJ goodness, I HIGHLY recommend reacting to the severely underrated two 'Sherlock Holmes' movies that he did with Jude Law (directed by the great Guy Ritchie).
There's also the "Chaplin" biopic that he won an Oscar for.
I'd like to get my hands on another copy of this movie. When I'd had it before I'd laugh until I was just straight CRYING!!!! Robert Downey, Jr. and Tom Cruise hit me hardest. But ALL the actors did a SPECTACULAR job!!!!
Liala, did you notice McConaughey, McBride, Hader, Coogan and Nolte? Plus, Jay Baruchel who played the younger Kevin voiced ''Hiccup" in the Train Your Dragon series. This was one of the most talent packed casts I've seen.

"Iron Man" was filmed and released first. Principal photography finished on Iron Man in June 2007, and "Tropic Thunder " began shooting a month later, in July 2007. Iron Man released 3 months earlier than Tropic Thunder in 2008. Some other similar funny films: Pineapple Express" (2008), "This is the End" (2013), "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" (2004). Danny McBride returns in the first two films, and Ben Stiller in Dodgeball.
In the DVD commentary, they said the Panda thing was a shot at Jack Black’s Kung Fu Panda.
This was a DreamWorks movie and all of DreamWorks biggest stars were in it. Ben Stiller from Madagascar, Jack Black from Kung Fu Panda, and Jay Baruchel from How To Train Your Dragon,

Loved this movie when it came out! Me and my ex's girlfriend loved it, my ex didn't (writing on the wall ;) Anyway my favorite part was actually when they took Tug and moving him through the building and they pass a window with sunlight showing through. Tug reacts like he's a vampire and honestly I'm still laughing today when I think of that scene

Both Iron Man and Kung Fu Panda came out just before Tropic Thunder. I remember in one of the promotional skits they did, Ben Stiller tells RDJ to wear an Iron Man mask and Jack Black to wear a Kung Fu Panda mask.

This movie is hysterical. There's a cut of this somewhere with deleted scenes that I didn't even know existed for the longest time. Most of it is character exposition, but RDJ has a line about being "lost in the jungle with Captain Simplejack" that still cracks me up. He is a legend.

There are a few movies similar to this one, but the two closest movies I can think of in comparable style and humor are “The Great White Hype” and “Bowfinger”. Both movies have all star casts and are very funny as well. Enjoy

I saw this in the theater in Fiji and was so confused at the beginning because I went from foreign ads to booty sweat. Only an old Fijian man and I were laughing at some of the jokes.

A LOT of people didn't even realize it was him until his name came up in the credits. lol So many great parts of this movie, but Cruise stole it. And he stole it from Downey who stole it first.
