I don't think anyone can appreciate how Knofler has impacted the world of guitar. He created his own sound by playing fingerstyle - which is particularly difficult on electric guitar, creating so much sound, very unique. Chet Atkins and Merle Travis also fingerpicked - but used their thumb to create primary a bass line to their fingers - Knofler claws, sometimes playing bass line with his thumb - sometime not. He's so good, so unique - he makes it look easy. He's a true pioneer and probably won't be emulated for a very long time.

For everyone who can’t believe Clapton is playing rhythm- mark and Eric have a loooong history, and he has insane respect for Knopfler (as he should). Knopfler is one of the most skilled and liked guitarists especially in 70s-80s. Very humble guy. 4 absolute legends on stage.
Side note : Knopfler left Dire Straits at the HEIGHT of their fame - he’s stated he hated fame , and said they got so big he would go into catering after the show and didn’t like seeing strangers. Very low key guy.
