For those who don't agree that '93 and '95 were his best years, just watch the first two minutes of this video to see what Dorian himself says on the matter: ruclips.net/video/VT8cLono4kc/видео.html
Lee Labrada was the first one to ever use the rope pull pose. That’s the one where Dorian and so many others now, extend one leg to the side flexing the calf, leaning into that side and flexing bicep with other arm drawn back to the opposite side. They called it the rope pull because when Labrada did it, he extended the leg and simultaneously extended both arms forward over the extended leg, and in a motion as if he were pulling a rope with both arms, he would pull and flex his arms into the pose of one bicep flexed and one drawn back to the opposite side. Very beautiful to see him do it. The original name “The rope pull”
columkenn “most aesthetic legs to win Mr.Olympia” What kinda crack are you smoking lol? His teardrop was WAY overdeveloped and the rest of his leg had little sweep to the other side.
One bodypart many don't comment on when it comes to Dorian in '93 vs. '95 is his ridiculous forearms. Those forearms were crazy huge in '93. You can see almost in every shot that his forearms were a little less in '95. Not a part that's judged on, i know, but I'm always impressed by forearms. Another part Dorian was all but unbeatable in was his amazing calves. If anything, I think he was even slightly improved in that part in '95 over '93.
What is crazy is that he said in an interview that he never trained forearms. He said they used to get worked when he did reverse grip barbell rows but he never targeted them directly. People say he lacked genetically but who has 19" forearms without ever training them?
@@thomasharman1435 I'm commenting on an old comment, but it will forever be true. I think Dorian had better genetics than he gives himself credit for. Clearly he had a great genetic response to hormones. Before the biceps injury he didn't have any bad parts. I think he was comparing himself to bodybuilders like Flex Wheeler at the time, who had really tiny joints which made his muscle look even bigger. Dorian had thick bones which can give a physique a slightly blockier look, but those same thick bones allowed him to hold that much mass.
Dorian is and always will be one of the best ever. 1993 was his best year ever from an aesthetic and size standpoint, and he simply blew away the competition in 1993, and changed the game forever. In interviews he always says, " I trained harder than my competition", how do I know that, because it's simply not possible to train harder than I did, they knew it and I knew it". The results were evident.
I think the video of his 1996 routine is better than the one from '95 because the camera work was utter shite. But check out the pics. He looks a little better in 95 and Dorian himself believes 93 and 95 were his best years
I prefer 1996 version of Dorian also. At the Olympia AND German Grand Prix. Regardless - when Dorian was on, would be hard for ANY bodybuilder to beat him!
People tend to forget that Yates wasn't just "Backzillia" Had the best calves ever. Some of the best forearms (19 inches) and one of the best Side Tri of all time. Thick head to toe
its been said but ill say it again, 96 german gran prix. yates was huge, hard and dry. striated glutes (thats for you tomn8er) and all. it wasnt even close.
Yes but in regards to both your comments, Yates himself states '93 and '95 were his best years. Now perhaps he was only considering the Olympias but still, I think as sensational as he looked in the 1996 GGP, it was largely due to the incredible lighting. Not to take away from his physique but if you watch his posing routine you can see depending on the camera angle he goes from looking unbelievable/godlike to simply great from one moment to the next, and his arms had started deteriorating and his midsection was getting pretty large by then which I why I lean towards '93. Cheers
Great analysis. I stopped watching the MR. O after Haney clinched the record... I can’t help but mention that I went with my gym friends in 1990.... when Dorian stepped onstage, everyone’s jaw dropped. “Who is this guy?” After announced 2nd, we all were in shock. I’m aware Momo was great.... it’s the only time I saw Dorian live and On that say his symmetry was at its all-time best! Weighed in at 225. Of course, many who continue to follow this sport want more and more mass. It’s a matter of taste. 1990 NOH was best he ever looked IMO.
I vote for 1993. I’d also like to disagree with people that say his quad teardrops were over developed. They look amazing with his incredible calves. His quads are actually one of the best things about his overall physique.
One thing about them is that unlike modern day pros the quads took up most of the upper leg mass not the adductors. Dorian's medial head and teardrop were great, his vastus lateralis was the problematic one, because it attached too low (it was very short) so the quads looked big and thick but narrow at the same time. And you are right about Dorian's tie to calf ratio, 22" calves to 31" ties is close to the ideal 1,5 ratio.
Tom I think 93 Dorian is the best single competition physique of all time against any bodybuilder!96 Grand Prix, then 95 Olympia.Paper skin conditioning seals the deal for me.Outstanding video!
93 vs 95 are indeed the two Olympia's for my man Yates. More cut in 93, more full in 95. It's too bad you threw in 97 Olympia pics Tomn8er by mistake of course, but 97 was by far his worse shape
In 96' German Prix, yes, the lighting was a factor, but that was also his best conditioning after the 93' Olympia. EVeryone looked great, but not nearly as good as Dorian. Dorian was just holy fuck. Yes, he was great in 93', but his back just didn't mature yet. It got better and better every year. When people talk about the best back ever, they always compare the 93' to Ronnie. Yes, ROnnie's back is much better than that Dorian, but the back of the late Dorian was just holy fuck. His fdb got worse, but that was a weak pose for him anyway. THe back lat spread got much better, I say the best back lat spread ever. He had the best lat spreads and the best side triceps in history. Combine that with a top 5 ever abs and thighs and top 5 ever back double biceps, and you got a bodybuilder that could be defeated only by 98' and 99' Ronnie Coleman, maybe not even by him
You raise some rly good points about his back improving, especially evident in the lat spreads. And he definitely looked tremendous in the German grand prix. Couldn't find any photos of that contest though and it's very hard to compare video to pics. Also Dorian himself says 95 and 93 were his two best yrs n doesn't even mention 96 so that tells me something right there. Also don't agree with Yates having a top five ab and thigh. Are you crazy? Lol He never had good quads nor a great midsection. He was one of the best mass monsters to ever hit the pose sure but not compared to many other smaller bodybuilders.
Tomn8er Never said he had good quads. But he did have a giant tear drop, ultra deep cuts and a very prominent sartorius muscle, it looked kinda good in the abs pose. Lui Marco did a video of Shawn vs Dorian in 94' and he even said Dorian was better in abs and thighs. Also in the Levrone vs Yates video you said Dorian couldn't do the side abs pose. Look at the 96' German video. He did it, and he nailed it. Probably the only mass monster with great obliques. And his abs are underrated because of his kinda bigger waist. They are symmetrical, proper 6 pack and always crisp
Srbenda126 I strongly strongly disagree with lui Marco if he said Dorian beat Shawn ray in the ab and thigh. You're right though I do recall that shot of Yates hitting the side variation well in the GGP. I still don't think he can match how good levrone did it though. Anyway good conversation it's nice to have discussions with ppl who actually know what they're talking about n can provide explanation rather than throwing insults because they disagree with something i said. Appreciate it bro
Well honestly, it could go both ways. But that pose, I haven't found a single bodybuilder that does it textbook. Everyone is lacking somethig. Shawn had a bad bone structure and not a good shoulder ti hips ratio. Big Rammy would be perfect if his abs were not so washed. dorian is not only the best bodybuilder of all time but also one of the best poser of all time as he know how to bring the best of each muscle of his body in his pose specially his signture pose
WHen you look at Mr. Yates you can see that he worked the back muscles. His back, rear quads and glutes were better than his competition. That is what separates the actual bodybuilders from people that are just lifting weights. Looking at the current crop of men, only a few work their back muscles. Which is why they never show it. Bodybuilders work the ENTIRE body. Not just the arms and chest.
for me dorian one of the best bodybuilder of all time my be the best n those bodybuilder of this era cant even beat dorian shadow as he is the shadow himself wat a bodybuilder truely mate
In a contest determining superior physiques...how does a guy win with a torn bicep? How's that not a disqualification? That's like a car winning best in show with only 3 wheels.
When you have the best back, legs and lats spread the world has ever seen then it is difficult to beat him on just biceps)) Anyone with better biceps was losing on the other poses
Why did bodybuilders before the 2000s not have shredded glutes like they did squats and they had low body fat so why did they not have the striations on their bum
Bb did have way before 2000. Yates, Ray, Ayktulug, Gaspari etc. It wasn't emphasized as much and posing suits/ trunks were fuller earlier. Do your research.

He had more chest in the front lat spread in my opinion in 93, in every other pose conditioning is gonna win every time
Good analysis.
Dorian #1 He Was The Hardest Most Conditioned Body Builder From 92-97 - All The Way.
Munzer
93 without a doubt was the best he was bigger in 95 but in 93 he even said he overdieted to peel as much as possible losing muscle in process
96 was very good. More streamlined. Very vascular. Still big but not as big as 93 thru 95 i think.
96 was his biggest he was big in 93 and massive in 96
Wheres TheLusianPopa?
I think Dorian in the 1994 German Gran Prix he was at his best .
1996 was his best year check Olympia and other pro show that year.
How does he get Arnold to do the intro on so many vids
Like an invincible magnificent mighty god just stepping off Mt Olympus a giant muscle king to worship
Look at his face at 4:00, it's like in just a few years the drugs (GH?) Took its toll on his face.
Love your videos man! and nice intro:-)
lol thx I put a bit of effort into this one
Dorian was 255 at the 95 Olympia.
Honestly I think the bicep tear made his bicep peak look better lol
for me dorian one of the best bodybuilder of all time my be the best n those bodybuilder of this era cant even beat dorian shadow as he is the shadow himself wat a bodybuilder truely mate
how this guy managed to win without left biceps and already crappy arms it's beyond mr.o logic
you are silly
1995 Rock Hard ...
10.23..dorian yates signature pose.
What about his rear glute spread ? Fabulous
The Best ...
Neither it's 93 or 95 it's 96 German Grand Prix Search it
Absolutely - I've been telling people that for years !
@@jgamez5023 yeah that video is so much underrated
1994 German grand prix now the I have seen more videos of that show
German grandprix 96 was his best shape
In a contest determining superior physiques...how does a guy win with a torn bicep? How's that not a disqualification? That's like a car winning best in show with only 3 wheels.
Don Tarver II his torn bicep only appearance in front double biceps.. dorian dominated the mandatories
Dorian's car was a lot faster even on 3 wheels, that's why.
When you have the best back, legs and lats spread the world has ever seen then it is difficult to beat him on just biceps)) Anyone with better biceps was losing on the other poses
We all know that 1993 is our favorite, but 1995 is better.
Why did bodybuilders before the 2000s not have shredded glutes like they did squats and they had low body fat so why did they not have the striations on their bum
Drugs improvement bro
They often didn't flex them onstage. How are you supposed to display striations on a muscle that is not being flexed?
Bb did have way before 2000. Yates, Ray, Ayktulug, Gaspari etc. It wasn't emphasized as much and posing suits/ trunks were fuller earlier. Do your research.
Turnip Patrol Kevin levrone did have shredded glutes
Will Kelly 4:12 look at Dorians ass on the left its striated
97 he tore his tricep
1996 grand pix ...Dy best shape
95 Yates had everything 93 had with a better back. 95 wins.
delta9mda except a bicep lol
im a huge 93 fan
I think if you eliminated the Arnold thing in the beginning you'd have more subs. Just my opinion
Yeah,Nicks strength and power...he doesnt do Lui Marco impressions
Nick's gonna start Phil Heat thing 😂😂😂
I subscribed because of the Arnold thing.
BEAST... Is Right...
IMO 1992 he was at his best
For me it was ninety four
Some of those pics are 97 his worse look not 95
tom, stop playing around and compare VIDEOS of 93 vs. 95. you will see Yates is better is 95. he had everything from 93 with a bigger fuller back and just for you tom, striated glutes too.;)
Seeing this conditioning it seems Dorian's conditioning is just too overrated.
1996 he was 255 lb?????? I though he was much bigger
93 he was bigger I was there
94 gran prix Yates.
Buddy, you have good commentary but you gotta lose the over- the- top Arnold impersonation, it has the shelf like of a radio commercial and is SO annoying after the second time you hear it.
did so over a year ago lol
Dorian hiself will tell u 93 no comparison
Actually no. Yates himself was undecided between 95 and 93. There's interview footage of him floating around
Only weakness yates had was arms
That calves tho..
