I met Dorian once and I asked what does it take. He said one word, CONSISTENCY.
For those that say steroids, they’re useless without consistency. The stage was complete with steroid users and abusers, but the most consistent in diet and training won 🏆. Steroids enhance your greatness, they do not make you great.

Genes if maybe you’re talking about insertions. Beyond that, unless your genes can control how motivated you are in the gym they’re not doing much. I will admit any day of he week Dorian Yates and bodybuilders like him all put in a tremendous amount of hard work to achieve physiques steroids alone could never give them.

These people have no idea how much effort is required in building and maintaining that much mass. It's so much more than steroids. It's diet, training, sleep...sacrifice. He missed out on a lot of stuff to accomplish this goal and now he's happy just being "normal" and being able to buy a suit off the rack. I can respect that. Nothing wrong with being normal.

Being that big is a chore, they literally are too big. The amount of food, training, sleeping and yes steroids it takes to achieve and maintain a body like that is nuts. Because I enjoy bodybuilding naturally myself, but I still respect certain bodybuilders even though they take steroids. Every athlete in any sport uses steroids at the top level. People just look down on Bodybuilders because they're the biggest so it's the most obvious. I hope you're also going on other videos related to baseball, football, etc. and calling all of them idiots too. And also dont forget to go on all of the junk food, tobacco, and alcohol related videos to call them fucking idiots for damaging their health with no positive benefits what so ever. At least Mr. Olympias achieved their dreams and will be remembered. Stop hating and focus on improving your own life.

    • @QualeQualeson

What eludes you is that bodybuilding has no inherent value. Yes it takes work and dedication blah blah, but so does being a heroin addict. So at the end of the day it's nothing more than an expression of neurosis. And everyone knows it too, so maybe your perceived jealousy is actually something else. Maybe it's pity. Use all that determination and work on something worth while, then I'll give you respect.

So what r u saying, that he would have won all natty cause his training was so intensive? Get a grip. The roids packed 60% of the mass, just look at the post roid shrinkage these dudes experience. It's watching something melt under the sun. Synthetic hormones are extremely potent and its MUCH easier to train super hard when you have truck pulling you up the hill, the latter is how Dorian explained the juice, he's been quite honest about the advantages of roids. I train hard ALL natty, the roiders wouldn't last a second in my world cause they can't even go to the gym without the roids. I know many pro's and they just quite cause they are not able to put in the effort natty. I've been at it all natty since 1985 myself and I've seen so many juicers come an go. They are roid warriors.

I don't respect their "efforts" - as a matter of fact it takes much more to do it all natty. I don't see the roiders at the bench press when they come off the juice, they don't have the ability to do it natty. No respect. Chemical gains are for rent.

And I say bullshit. Steroids may very well make you a champion. If your placing 15th cause your natty you CAN climb to number 1 if your willing to go all out and do whatever it takes chemically. I've seen that happen repeatedly. Synthetic hormones combined some diuretics makes ALL the difference in the world! That's why people take'em. As mentioned, I've been at it all natty since 1985. I know what gym life is all about. I don't respect roiders "efforts" - as a matter of fact it takes much more to do it all natty. Don't talk to me about dedication - dude.

D.Y. has always been one of my favorites because he tells the truth even about his own steroid use which most bodybuilders steer clear of these days, and goes into depth about why so many ex-body builders are dropping like flies(dying)because they didn't cycle on & off as he did and Dorian is a testament to this by being in great shape these days at the young age of 57!

Dorian Yates aka the King of the Lats. Nobody had a better or bigger back than him. He was a human bull frog when he popped up onstage. He only worked each muscle one day per week, but he trained using the Mike Mentzer high intensity method. Working a muscle to absolute failure, not just failure. So forced reps, retro reps, taking some weight off and trying to grind out a couple more reps. The type of workout that would make most people pass out or barf. He did tear his left tricep and bicep at different times though. I was in high school when Dorian Yates arrived on the scene. I followed everything he did. It's true what he says about the Golden era. He had to compete against Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler, Sean Ray, Lee Priest, Nassar El Sonbaty, Mike Matarrazo, Paul Dillet.
    The competition was more fierce.

Used train with an old school global competitive body builder. He was from the Mike Mentzer school. It was hell. You'd go until you puked and then keep going, every fucking day. You pop ibuprofen like Tic-Tacs.

One of my favourite Joe Rogan podcasts. Dorian shares so much useful information about weight lifting.
