The reason why I decided to get the Pixel 8. At least I have 7 years to get if not all at least most of them.

    I do love my 8 Pro hardware but there are still far too many odd day to day issues that occur that have no business happening much less this frequently on a $999 phone. Most are software related and these are issues that have been going on since my Pixel 6 using days. Things like swiping up from the lockscreen when trying to accept a call not working and I will have to speak out "Answer" to pick up the call. This kind of unresponsiveness still occurs throughout the whole OS again way too frequently.
    The screen, for being 120Hz, somehow still has this strange lag/delay that isn't even present on my other 60Hz display phones and again this has been present from the 90Hz panel on the Pixel 6 to the 120Hz in the 7 Pro and now in the 8 Pro. These are only a few of the issues still holding me back from recommending it as a S24 series alternative in the US if one was to ask me which Android phone to buy.
    I would love if Google incorporated their own version of Magsafe though in the Pixel 9 phones. I drive a quite a bit for work and while I am using a Magsafe compatible case on my 8 Pro now, even though it's a Qi2 charger, it doesn't charge very fast and even less so when it's very hot out as it is now.
    Also having a better face ID solution would be very welcome, it's currently slow and unreliable for me and completely unusable in low light situations. A true ToF sensor would be great but that would likely not be possible without a larger punch-hole design like on the iPhones or certain Honor phones. What else, a better in-display fingerprint reader is also a near must since for me that's my primary way of unlocking the phone. The list goes on and on.

      @@hungrydavo No, not at all! The most demanding consumers are looking for more processing power while also enjoying energy savings for better battery life. I recently bought a Pixel 8, and it works perfectly, like all the Pixels I've had before. In the long run, I'll opt for the Tensor G6 (Pixel 11) or maybe the Tensor G7 (Pixel 12), but I'm going to make the most of my Pixel 8 first before selling it or returning it to Google to get a discount on the latest smartphone I'll buy this year.
      The Tensor G5, set to power the Pixel 10 series, will be the first System-on-Chip (SoC) fully designed and manufactured by Google.

    • @simoninvata4699
      @simoninvata4699 12 дней назад +1

      Chip design and manufacturing can be expensive. It's possible that the Tensor G5 will be more expensive than previous Tensor chips, which could lead to a price increase for Pixel 10 devices.
      I like the initiative, although it's a risky bet. Despite these risks, Google seems convinced that the benefits of a fully Google-designed and -manufactured SoC outweigh the risks. It remains to be seen whether the Tensor G5 will be a success, but it's a significant step for Google and could have a major impact on the future of Pixel devices.

  • @imopn
    @imopn 17 дней назад +1

    For me in order of priority...
    1. Better SOC with much much better Modem. Seriously they need to get it sorted this round
    2. On that topic better antennae for the wifi 7. Even OnePlus could get this sorted. Throw in some Satelite coms too. Its a must have here in New Zealand
    3. Better fingerprint readers. Just ditch these optical readers already
    4. Always better camera hardware. Its a given. But specifically im still hoping for 10x optical like the older Samsungs had. And make the fold camera hardware on par with pixel pro
    5. Magsafe with the wireless charging. Id love magsafe mobile holders in car
    6. Now that they finally do a small pixel for people who like small mobiles make the XL larger. I mentioned it before but the small Pixel Pro, Pixel Pro XL and the Fold should all have the same spec internals and camera. Only the screens should be different. The gimped Fold is the reason I never bought a Fold
    7. Add a programmable buttton. Everyone would use it for something different and that's why we need it. Ooen a fav app, assistant, what ever

      That's my thought too. I'm really happy as-is, but I like new stuff.
      The only thing I really, really want (but know I won't get unless they can make it under-display) is the Soli radar from the 4XL, and TBH I would GLADLY take the lopsided and extra thick top bezel to have that feature back
      I used that daily! Playing media (especially in the car) and being able to skip forward/back, pause, and resume without looking, without touching, and without any verbal trigger words was SO quick and convenient and useful!!!
      Maybe I want to skip 3 songs in a row during rush hour. Since I would rather not rear end someone, I end up letting mediocre songs play more often than I'd like. LOL!
      And since I'm dreaming... it'd be cool if it recognized the shape of my hand and let only me skip/pause/resume, but not let my daughter troll me. 😂
      The next step is a gesture to trigger the dictation mic. If I had that and hand-recognition media control gestures, that would be perfection!

    Having a mix of Samsung, Google and Xiaomi phones in my household.. Pixel is by far the phone with the most tricks but somehow is still capable of making one feel a miss in fundamentals, compared to the other 2. The other 2 don't have as many tricks, but they also don't have weird quirks that bother you as much on a daily basis because they nailed the fundamentals right - like fluidity, longevity, stability, battery, usability and consistency. It always felt like Google is spending too much time and effort minoring on the major, while majoring on the minor. For one, just return the highlight and shadow controls to the viewfinder instead of tucking them away on a 2nd page.

    • @dm1i
      @dm1i 19 дней назад +1

      It's completely opposite. Fluidity, longevity, stability, battery (it's just good enough), usability and consistency are the strongest points of Pixel phones compared to any other. Those are the fundamentals. You don't need the highlight and shadow controls if camera does perfect shots by default 100% of the time.
      But if you want those small manual tweaks and features, you really need an alternative, like Samsung or Xiaomi. But these features are for the minority.

    • @AndrewHahaLee
      @AndrewHahaLee 19 дней назад +5

      Except I wasn't getting the fundamentals from Pixel, when using multiple phones. Alarms not going off, phonecall recipients not receiving my voice audio "under certain conditions" (as how Google likes to call it), photos at night looking bright with overly lit shadows "under certain conditions", advertised features that don't come to all regions, advertised features that never arrive or don't work, random server-side changes / removal of advertised features..just to name a few.
      Things not specifically Pixel 8 related, but rather Google related, because I've used the 2/3/4 and 6 and inconsistency has been the only constant in my years of usage. They aren't frequent. But there will be instances of either of the above occurring every few months. While things may have settled down now in late 2024, I was there when it wasn't. Comparatively, Samsung and Xiaomi has yet to take me there in the last 6-18mths.
      You always know what you're getting on the day of the first payment.

So Hopefully the screen is improved and is as good or better than a samsung s20 and hopefully we get all the bells and whistles of the 9 pro XL in the 9pro( besides the battery I suppose?)

      I sometimes have the same issue. Try squeezing the display in the middle left, i. e. thumb on the display, other fingers on the back. It might be a mechanical display connection issue. Letting it cool down and restarting it may also help. If that's it, I'm afraid it will happen again and again, especially when the phone gets warm in your pocket.

    I've been on Pixels since the 6 pro, upgraded for cheap from 7 pro to 8 pro and I wished I didn't. It's been an absolute nightmare to have a screen protector on the phone, glass is never full cover, unless it's spigen or dbrand, spigen ruins accuracy to a point where I want to throw the phone away, dbrand I can't get easily where I live. Tpu is just a nightmare, they all just move off the phone within half a day, no matter what. I'm so done with this that I'm considering switching to another phone when I can do my next upgrade, I get the "hand feel" argument of curved edges, but by no means does that outweigh the absolute nightmare of curved glass and screen protectors. So, hopefully they will have actually flat glass this time. Curved metal bezels would be great for those that want that, but leave the goddamn screen flat please.

I decided to upgrade to the Pixel 8 and got the 256gb (my 1st flagship phone ever). I didn't know pixel 9 will be launched like a month before my purchase 😭 I'm a fan of Pixel phones.
