    I'm a motorcycle instructor in NJ USA. Ride a Victory Cross Country Tour. I hold the front break while my wife gets on first from the left. I get on second from the RIGHT. (The HIGH side.) Easier to step over the seat that way. When we dismount, I get off first on the right (high side), hold the front brake & she dismounts from the left (low side.)
    Safe, easy, effective! Try it out some time.

    Good stuff. My wife always gets off first I balance the bike with the sidestand down. And I always get on 1st again balancing the bike with the sidestand still down and she gets on. Seems to work well for us. I'm sure there are several methods. Whatever works best for the couple as a team. Very well done video.

    Think the steps are the way to go to get on what we didn’t see on the other side of the bike was the slide to get off.
    Great video very funny start. 😂👍🏻

    Thanks Mark, great video and interesting research😃 We normally mount with me first; however, on our recent Spanish/French trip when loaded up like you, we found it easier if Judith mounted first and got off last. If the other way, like you I felt I was being pulled off and there were a few choice words said!! Gosh, there’s a lot of double entendres here!😂😂😂

    Problem with these techniques is #1 the drivers could all pick a leg up and stick it through and over the seat and #2 all the passengers could stand up on the left foot peg and lift their right leg up and thru over the seat. My wife has had both hips replaced and has had lower back fusion surgery. She can't mount up behind me. She has to get on first and get off last. We have figured it out but I wonder if your group can figure it out?

    good vid and will try the techniques. However, it is very noticeable that every pillion is significantly smaller than the rider? Would have been good to see 2 more equally matched adults as this is my case.

    Brilliant! Interesting to see the various ways used by the pillion and rider but I think we'll stick with the stepladder method for now...

    I’m picking up a new GS in a few weeks and have been studying ways of mounting the bike with my wife as pillion. One method I’ve seen is where the pillion mounts first from the opposite side of the bike with the side stand down, bike resting on the stand, and handlebar held that side by the rider. This takes the strain off the side stand and the pillion mounts using the rider’s foot pegs then sits down and shuffles back to relocate their feet on the pillion pegs. Rider then mounts, tilts bike to upright position and away they go. I would imagine demounting to be the exact reversal of this procedure. Looks safe and easy in their video. Has anyone tried this method, and with what results?

      The ingenious method you're describing seems to be from Brett Tkacs's brilliant YT video, where his wife Christina initially "emergers" from a soft luggage pillion bag 😅

    Noticed you kept the bike on the side stand - is that safe? Is it strong enough to hold the bike and two people? I have been holding it with both legs but damn it’s heavy and my lady is virtually the same height as me and have had some dodgy moments…will the side stand hold us both?

    I always feel like the wife is going to fall off the bike or drag it and me onto the ground. I got my foot stuck on the seat and got arse cramps then the giggles right in front of about 50 people lined up for an ice cream felt like a real plonker....

    Most woman pillions cannot climb up when loaded with hard painers both ways and on top of them you have extra stuff. Its amazing she is doing it so easily.

    When I watched your last mount - dismount. I noticed you left the side stand down, stepped on the footrest and pushed down on the footrest putting all your weight and the bikes weight on the side stand. I used to do exactly the same ( because I'm a short house, I cleaned that up lol ), until the side stand collapsed. Bike fell over, I had nowhere to go except to the ground with the bike on top of my left leg. I was lucky only dislocated my ankle. The side stand, on further inspect, was just a hollow tube and is only designed to prop up the bike. So please be careful using this method of mounting your bike this way .

      @stevetaylor8698 5 лет назад +2

      Have to agree with this. I usually put the side stand down as a precaution but keep the bike upright with the frontbrake firmly clamped. With both my feet on the ground (it's a Goldwing, so quite a low seat height) my pillion dismounts. Then I climb off too.

    At 4:14, the operator mounts the motorcycle by stepping on the foot peg while the side stand is down. I have always wanted to do this to compensate for arthritic joints, but have been told to not do it. Since the side stand didn't fail and the bike didn't fall, what's the truth behind mounting this way?
