  • The wording is very lacking in explanation. I'm still experimenting with this but now know enough to give you an idea of what this option is for and what it does. It's an interesting addition to PENTAX and does come in handy when you don't want the ISO to change much, or you want the Shutter Speed to change according to the set ISO range.

I constantly shoot in TAV mode with auto iso. You control shutter speed to degree needed to stop action and aperture for creativity and let the camera figure the iso for the proper exposure. Very nice if you shoot in constantly changing lighting. With todays plugins like Topaz for noise reduction you can be brave on setting your max iso parameter.

Don't have a K-3, but still enjoy seeing these vids, haha!
I had mentionned a conundrum last week, with the lack of Pentax showing face at the show... but I love Pentax, I've spent a few days looking at what else is out there, nothing feels like it would be a big upgrade over the K-70 (for my budget and use)..
Not sure if you got snow today (Nov 16th)... but yeah, big snowfall today in Montreal. Had the chance to take out my K-70 for some awesome shots on the St-Lawrence river. Was so happy to be able to get shots on the FIRST snowfall of the year!! :D
..and not have to worry about the elements, my camera and 20-40 Limited WR were under snowfall for about 45 minutes, they we're dripping wet. No worries! God I love Pentax..

That’s one setting I hadn’t explored so time for a look I think. As you say though Pentax do not explain things properly and a lot of descriptions within there manuals are basic to say the least. Now I have the new e-book from Pentax forums so I’m hoping for better things.

Interesting. Ive never played with all of those options. I could see your first example, in aperture priority, being usefull for something like concert photography.

Use Av and make sure 'auto iso' is enabled (press iso button, then green button). Now go back to the menu and see if it's enabled.

Uhmmm at 4:54 my expectation was the camera to use ISO even if there is a cap at 6400. The reason to that is the meaning of the setting regarding the speed. I do want the camera play with iso and s.speed but I consider s.speed as a priority so, dear k3iii, do not use anything slower than . If the exposure is not correct I COMMAND you to override the upper iso cap. And it seem did not work properly. I run my test and I confirm is not working as my understanding of the menu words: it work but just in the ISO interval, so it is not a great idea. Pentax, please release a new firmware update adding the option "shutter speed full prty" in the iso setting :-)

There is an option for that in the menu. "Auto EV compensation" if the target exposure can not be reached, the camera will override the settings to achieve the correct exposure. I'd have to look through the menu again to find where that setting is.

After re-reading your concern, what you'll want to play with is the following... Camera menu>2-exposure setting>ISO Sensitivity Setting. Min. Shutter Speed Op. This will work in Av mode. You'll have to play with the settings. Some items will be greyed out if your using semi manual modes where you can control the shutter or full manual mode.
