    Great content Kobie! We had to watch it on the TV! Great intro into the camera. Worth every second. I wonder if the firmware team will iron out the little things.

    Hi kobe. Good video and thanks for sharing your thoughts and settings. Now the video at the start isn't that good. The lens was hunting at times and highlights blown out a little. It's usable but to be honest my Samsung smartphone would blow this away. But its not a video camera after all and it's better than what pentax had before. There's a hell of a lot in the menus. I could be lost in that. But I'm sure I'd adjust to it after a while. I'm impressed with the camera and I'd consider buying it but its just the price thing. Like many I'm Waiting for the price drop. I look forward to more videos you do. As you show each feature in more detail I think the love generally for the camera will grow.

      The other portions of the video were done with my Huawei P30 Pro phone so I know what you mean. But, hopefully with the upcoming DA* 16-50 F/2.8 PLM it'll be better on the K-3 III. One step at a time I suppose. Video is clear but the AF is slow.

    You're doing good work here thank you!
    I must say I'm a little surprised at the name of the user mode not showing up when you engage it as on previous cameras - is that through both dial selection and menu selection?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад

      Thank you!
      The only place the user mode name shows up is in the menu when you access "rename" in the custom user mode settings.

      Yes, this must be a bug in the firmware. It's one of my favorite features, and they omitted it, I think. I hope it gets corrected in subsequent firmware versions. I've been trying for a while now to make it appear and there does not appear to be an option. :^(

  • @slimphotog

    In live view, is it contrast detection AF only? Doesn't this camera have PDAF on the sensor that can be used for autofocus lin live view?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад +1

      That's a very good question. Official specs only list CDAF in live view but it does do continue AF in live view. And the live view focus is MUCH faster than before. I'll be exploring the live view side of things more now that it functions as well as it does. But as for PDAF or CDAF or hybrid mix of both? I'm not sure. BUT, it's more likely that it's CDAF in live view coupled with the RGBir sensor for tracking just like in viewfinder mode.

    Kobie, my K-3iii arrives tomorrow. I am a working pro and am adding this to my bag as an upgrade to my old K-3. It will primarily be a backup (I shoot the K-1 almost all the time), but some of the new features just seemed too good to pass up. Do you think some of the remaining flaws will be corrected in future firmware updates? Thanks for this video, it will definitely help me get the new rig set up quickly.

    • @KobieMC

      I certainly hope so. The camera is so close to being "polished", it would be a shame if they dropped the ball.

    I have an issue with mine and i need to check why. Maybe you know why. I was testing now the camera in low light in TV mode at a 1/200sec as speed and I saw that the camera (I was pointing and changing the focus to test its speed with different lenses in diferent focals also) decided which speed to select for me. So instead of shooting at 1/200sec it went to 1/8, 1/25th when needed. And that's not a thing I'd like it to do. Yes I was playing with the menus and probably I have chosen some random function I don't want to but man.... What the heck?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  Год назад

      2 places to check. 1) Camera menu>2 ISO Sensitivity Setting and check if you have a decent spread between minimum and maximum ISO.
      2) Camera Menu>2 Auto EV Compensation (on/off). On will allow the camera to override Tv or Av on its own to achieve a good exposure if the exposure happens to fall out of line with the settings you've set.

    Great video ! Very helpful indeed 👍. Would you be able to put a screen protector on it as the screen is now touch screen? Thanks, Maggi

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! You might be able to but it would now heavily depend on the type of screen protector and quality. Basically the same issues as with smartphones would now apply to the camera as well.

      @@KobieMC Hi - Just wondered if you could help me with a little problem? When I attach my new K3 to my iMac to upload images - it opens straight away into Adobe bridge (which is my normal setting for uploading) but usually I have two icons on my desktop too representing the cards (Name of Camera) but this doesn't happen with my new K3? I have a K5 II's and a K3 mark 1 and as soon as I connect them the icons appear on the desktop straightaway - any ideas ? many thanks

      In the USB option in the camera menu, what is it set to? PTP or MSC? It should be set to PTP which is Picture Transfer Protocol.

      Oh, you're talking about the K-3 III. Sorry lol. It should be in MTP. It could be that you need to go into your computer settings and enable the option of displaying the folder when the device is connected.

    What firmware are you running? My time is only a 24 hour clock. I'd prefer a 12 hour with am/pm option if they can ever update it.

    • @KobieMC

      I'm running firmware 1.01

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад

      That's messed. I just checked again and now I can cycle through in 24 hour format. When I first got the camera (firmware 1.00) it would go to 12 and then start back at 1 again. I guess it's a glitch that fixed after?

  • @klarion
    @klarion 3 года назад

    Can you talk about light metering please. I notice that my K1m2 tends to over-expose in matrix metering... something about adjusting for backlit subjects (even if they're not backlit). Basically, I think that every time it detects a sizable dark subject in Matrix, it tends to increase exposure too much.... I have to shoot in center weighted and use my brain.. oh my.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад +2

      Have you tried changing your setting to lock exposure to focus point? That way the metering is biased to the actual focus point and not the entire scene. It may help solve the issue.

      Give it a shot 👍🏽

    • @klarion
      @klarion 3 года назад +2

      @@KobieMC Yes. I think it tends to be even more over like that. Maybe I'm biased because I tend to avoid even a hint of blown out highlights despite having some headroom with raw.
      I'm usually dialing between -.3 to -1 EV compensation in matrix. It's not a big deal, but I'm still curious.
      On my Nikon d810 I can bias the light meter in settings, which is what I did on it, so it always exposes slightly darker than stock.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 года назад +1

      @@klarion I will put that in the mix.

    • @danielkreithen6638
      @danielkreithen6638 3 года назад +2

      There is a new metering option called "Highlight weighted metering" similar to the Ricoh GRIII, which protects highlights. This is very useful if you're shooting RAW and intend to do development (such as lifting the shadows) in post-processing.
