As a kid of the 1970's I remember watching all the variety shows back then and she (Lola Falana) like Joey Heatherton were making their rounds and lighting up the stages! What I was impressed with was that she (Lola) was fluent in multiple languages! I seen her speaking French, Spanish and of course English. As it turns out she was famous in more than just America. Though times were starting to change, it was rare to see African Americans on television so needless to say she was a treat to watch in my family. We absolutely loved Lola! I'm so sad to hear about Dana Plato. She was such a loving and giving person. May she and her son rest in peace.

Ms. Falana was truly amaaazing! She had millionaires knocking on her dressing room doors. She even dazzled women like my mom and aunts who used to take the Greyhound Bus from L.A. twice a year to see her, Wayne Newton and Fred Travalena. Ms. Falana was their favorite though.

Even if you did not know about Lola, you heard her name mentioned on all the black shows in the 70s from What's Happening, Sanford and Son, Good Times, and the Jeffersons. When Lola was diagnosed with MS, there was no treatment for the disease and it was devastating. There still is no cure but today they do have several drugs that slow the progression in many patients.

Although dressed in a skimpy leopard suit - I think (it's been almost 50 years) - it was still very tame by today's standards.
