People in those types of relationships can actually catch feelings for someone that’s not their spouse, and it happens in traditional relationships too.
It's really frustrating how the word "class" is misused these days. The people that get called "classy" just boggles my mind. What they really mean is "attractive" and wealthy, and it's usually reserved for lighter-skinned people, because when medium- to darker-skinned people do the same, they're typically not called "classy." We know this. I love me some Beyoncé, but if you compare her to Megan Thee Stallion, Beyoncé gets called "classy" all the time, even though she curses in her music, shakes her behind, wears revealing clothing, speaks explicitly about s/ex, etc. But if you tried to say to someone, "Megan Thee Stallion is classy like Beyoncé," they would read you for filth, and if you asked them what's the difference, there'd be a lot of excuses. Love both women and am a fan of both, btw.
When I say class, I am referring to the way she carried herself. I don't agree with open relationships either, but since that was an agreement within her relationship, I don't have a say in it one way or another. Despite the fact, they kept their tryst relatively private, and when the issue became problematic for their children, they readjusted. That is classy. A far cry from celebrity relationships we see today, or heck even then - some other celebrities were very openly messy with their relationships. I wouldn't call MTS or Beyonce classy. Beautiful, sure. Again, to me, it's in how one carries themselves.

I'm against open marriage but to each it's own. My body belongs to my husband and him only. In this day and time it's too dangerous for all that extra stuff. Spiritually, mentally and physically it's better to be with one person (drama free)
Corinthians 7:2-11 - But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.

Open marriages are dumb. Why get married if you aren't going to stay devoted to the person you married. If you want to sleep with other people, stay single. Simple as that.
It can be a bit more nuanced than that. Some people can’t physically have sex with each other because of a disability. It’s a matter of what both people agree on🤷🏾♀️
@@ladymsthing6056 I don't buy that. Marriage vows weren't meant to be broken just because people get urges. That's what for better or for worse and through sickness and in health means. Not going to lie, this was a shocker for me to find out but I am so happy that they kept their marriage first no matter what that looked like. They made the decision to keep it respectful and to keep it private.
I learned so much from your videos! I had no idea about her relationship with Ossie. But I can't get down with an open relationship. It's just not for me. Soul-ties are real, and I wish people were more aware of that.
I always thought Ruby Dee was a beautiful woman and had a regal presence. As the young person I thought that her and Ossie Davis had a beautiful relationship and never would have thought that they had an open marriage because they stayed together so long regardless of the open relationship their love must have been true because they grew and died together.
I really enjoyed this and I believe to each is own. My theory is that I could see why having an open relationship could be tough. At the end of the day people are gonna do what they want to do,
I read an article some time ago, where Ms Ruby said that she regretted her decision to have an open marriage. She said that if she had it to do over again, she wouldn't have done it.
The irony was that her first husband permitted her to have an open relationship with Ozzie Davis and she ended up marrying him! This is why I could never feel comfortable with the knowledge that my wife was having relations with another man, and it would be even more difficult for me to trust her afterwards, no matter how much that she proclaimed to love me! Call me insecure, but I couldn't do it!
Your content is well researched and you give good context on each celebrity. I find it very interesting. Please could you do content on Niome Harris, Kylie Minogue, Kate Bush and Aja Naomi King. I would appreciate it.
An open marriage is just another word for nymphomania. It’s about sex and no self control. Why even get married, just stay long term friends with benefits. I don’t respect these types of relationships as they make a mockery of marriages. It never works out anyway.
One person I know, female, attempts this. I've known her since we were children and she has some unresolved issues about her parents not giving her the attention she wanted, or it's something of a personality disorder, idk, but she is *never* able to be alone even for a short time. If she has to make an hour drive she'll find someone to ride with her so she has someone to listen to her talk. I feel like that carries over to relationships where one person can't be all the things she demands of one person because in real life people have to work, sleep, have some alone time, and she takes that as rejection or something. So she has other people to fill in that time. From my perspective it doesn't seem healthy for anyone involved and it just allows her to ignore whatever it is in her that needs addressed and expecting other people to make her feel validated. Also, to me it just seems absolutely exhausting.
You should put that energy on marriages on which the person goes behind their partner back and constantly cheat, lies and betrays, at least for open marriages they’re honest with each other
Ruby Dee was gorgeous! I can see her having the same type of strong personality that will do what she wants when she wants! Even back then! Miss her energy!

You delivered this video well. Thank you for the old footage. I didn't know how Ruby Dee looked when she was younger. She was beautiful! How she lived her life is between her and God. Her contribution as an artist in her time here I truly appreciate gift as an actress and activist.
She was so GORGEOUS! She had such an angelic beauty. I'm always blown away by the women's beauty back in the day, it's so different. We definitely don't see that now at all! As far as open marriages, I do not share!
I learned about this years ago and even though I was younger - I understood where they were coming from. I still love these two for their work and just everything what they stood for and continued to embrace their blackness ❤ Ossie was so freaking handsome and Ruby was just absolutely stunning! One of the most beautiful women in the world to me. Next to Pam Grier, Angela Bassett, Phylicia Rashad and the list continues as they age and aged magnificently❤❤❤ If you don’t agree - I don’t care. As for their open marriage - they learned, they grew and they respected each other. Their marriage isn’t my business.
Ruby Dee was a very beautiful actress, I loved her and all her movies. The open marriage thing that's between the two. Thank you for bringing this Ruby Dee video.
I was always taught that monogamy was an option, but not mandatory. So I've always been comfortable dating multiple men at the same time. I've never lied or hid it from them. I've dated men who claimed they wanted to be monogamous. Truth is they wanted ME to be monogamous, even though THEY had no intentions on doing so themselves. I was always willing to be monogamous if I ever got married. I married a man who felt the same way. We chose an open marriage. We spent years trying to be monogamous. That didn't work for us. We are both straight and not into the same people, but we're always seeing other people. Works for us. 15+ years by the way.
Cat people and Jungle Fever (Ruby Dee) You have got to do one on Jayne Kennedy (the most beautiful lady of her time) and Judy Pace (another stunning beauty) I love your channel!
Open relationships/marriages tend to end in both parts being hurt. In the beginning you never believe this, you just think everything is going to be fun and exciting and that it’s going to revive your initial relationship. But often times it leads to one part being more hurt, one part having more fun than the other (or even the only part having fun), one part (or both) catches feelings for someone else etc. It’s extremly hard to do this (probably even impossible). Everyone should have the right to explore whatever part of their life they want but there will always be consequences. And if you have kids I really believe if you as parents really really wanna fo this thing, ok, but then the kids should not know about this. I really think it’s messing them up. Kids should stay away from this type of experiences of their parents.
From my own understanding life is just experiences..some work in your favor while some require re-thinking what's best for all involved not just ourselves. Thank you soo much for this video and all the great content on your channel.
I love her in anything she has done,my favorite,as Ruth in a raisin in the sun, their eyes were watching god as Hallie Berry's grandmother, and that spike Lee joint, she was so pretty, smart, and delicate and strong at the same time....
Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis were superb role models and their marriage always appeared to be rock solid. I loved Ruby in Raisin in the Sun. Thanks, for this outstanding video.
These open relationships only work for celebrities, they don't have the money arguments or the stresses of being at work, they can move, play, hang out together, and do anything at anytime, regular folk have things going on that will make that open relationship get out of control.
Oh, please. She and Ossie said in their memoir they tried an open marriage, but it didn't work for them and they stopped. It wasn't like it was for years.
My confusion over the open marriage remains with why get married at all? Stay single and mingle🤷♀️ and don't have kids to cause them distress. Seems far simpler. But, the open marriage allows the illusion of both, which I guess is the allure. One can show the presumed stability and maturity of a marriage whilst continuing to roam and neither partner can easily stop the other, I guess? Seems like far too much work with too many potential downsides.
An amazingly thought-provoking woman. I enjoyed her story as the straightforward honest introspective approach is best in my view. I particularly enjoyed the annotation of the growth experience, how she unapologetically chose to learn from her experiences and letting the yield from those experiences afford her the insight to change her mind in an informed manner. Indeed, her intellect, pride, and strength made her a noteable and therefore, formidable role-model in so many ways. A queen in every since of the word, she was, indeed!
I agree with Mrs. Ruby Dee, I believe that it's not about the act of sex it is the disrespect that most people show, and she is right it is not about who you love it's that you both love and respect each other and I truly feel that honesty and trust are key pieces in making a marriage works
So much oxymorons in your statement. Hollywood lifestyle is nothing you should emulate. I guess you’ve seen how ‘happy’ Will Smith is and how ‘considerate’ Jada has been in their marriage. Absolute ’love’ and ‘respect’ in their marriage.
Most black women have always believed in open marriage or sexual freedom or however, you may choose to express it, but this belief only applies to themselves and other racial groups of people with the exception of their black male counterparts. When it comes to black males, black females and society as a whole have always taken the exception to this rule, for the prevailing belief is that black male sexuality must be policed at all costs. This belief has always been reflected in the negative attitudes about black men dating and marrying other racial groups of women. This does not only apply to black women in Hollywood, black women in general have always believed and engaged in sexually promiscuous behaviors. However, they are not willing to accept these same behaviors from their black male counterparts without protest. It is only a problem for these women when their black male counterparts start to think about these same behaviors and/or engaging in them. Statistics lends support to this conceptualization, when one considers the fact that the majority of black men don't have any children but the majority of black women have illegitimate children by different men. Statistically black women have more children by men of other races than women of any other racial group. As many black women age they will develop amnesia about their sexual exploits or behaviors in the days of their youth and point the finger at the younger people and seemly advocate for more conservative and/or Christian views and attitudes toward sex. Is this a true conversion and/or has sex just given up on them, because they may know longer be able to compete in the sexual market place? Does this sexual prudishness just reflect a means to protect their sexual relationship and/or marriage interests, because the situation has changed for them?

Mrs. Ruby Dee was such a beautiful soul. I met her while she was doing a play and I was working for the company. She was so nice and became a grandmother to everyone there. I just loved talking to her and Mr. Davis about life. Such a blessing to be able to meet them both.
Edit: An administrator at my son's middle school is Mrs. Dee's granddaughter and I got to share my experiences with her grandparents.
That's wonderful. They were a TALENTED couple and Mrs. Dee was beautiful. ❤️
How blessed you are to have met her and just be in the same space as her!! Thank you Karine for this mini-doc on Ruby Dee, I learned so much. Now I wanna go and find all of the movies that you had in the video and I want to binge watch her. Her acting ability is and was top notch. I don't know if you mentioned her getting an Oscar, and if she didn't, she sure should have gotten one!! But you know what, we know that she's great...Keep her memory alive!! One particular thing I recall from an old interview is when they said an open marriage was a great experience -until one or the other person links with someone that's hard to let go that was deep
Its called ADULTERY in GOD'S sight no matter what these people call it to justify what they do. Hope they repented before it was too late because GOD is Gracious.
My thinking Exactly.

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband.

She was gorgeous
Another masterful presentation Karine. Thank you.👏👌👏
I really enjoyed this and I believe to each is own.

An open marriage is just another word for nymphomania. It’s about sex and no self control. Why even get married, just stay long term friends with benefits. I don’t respect these types of relationships as they make a mockery of marriages. It never works out anyway.

💯💯😵💫
You should put that energy on marriages on which the person goes behind their partner back and constantly cheat, lies and betrays, at least for open marriages they’re honest with each other
@@possumfriend2335marriage in general is exhausting for most monogamy or polygamy

It's a classic case of having your cake and eating it too. Open relationships defeat one of the main purposes of marriage.
Just remain single if you wish to live the single life, PERIOD!

These open relationships only work for celebrities, they don't have the money arguments or the stresses of being at work, they can move, play, hang out together, and do anything at anytime, regular folk have things going on that will make that open relationship get out of control.

Agreed

That is disrespectful, to have sex with someone that is not your spouse.
@@Harry-xz3os most black women don’t like accountability. They love to think they shouldn’t have to deal with the impact of their bad decisions.
