I read Cici Houston's memoir when it came out and it was "detached" when discussing her children and family. She simply wasn't around. I am a mother and if I had to write my memoirs, I could share stories that are heartfelt and evoke emotions. She didn't accomplish this. In fact, she emphasized way more on her "pioneering" to gain respect for the work of back up singers everywhere. Sigh. Look at those cheekbones on Teresa Graves! RIP, Whitney Elizabeth Houston. 😢
Yep. Listened to Cissy's the audio book and wondered "who really loved Whitney." Very detached, but I thought Cissy lost her mother young and sometimes those types are detached. That said Whitney had a lot of "I want my mommy" behavior as an adult. Like you said I thought it was because Cissy worked all the time taking care of the husband too. And some of the things Robin said about things Cissy did or said... I just kind of felt like "I see why people say she was jealous of her own kid." But Leola Brown said something very interesting, kind of around the time all this came out. She said she was at the bank with Whitney and the account had been drained. It makes perfect sense and I'm sure Whitney knew. People look down upon drugs addicts before they know their story, we all have a story one way or another but not all turn to drugs and self sabotage. If there was ever a reason or trigger for Whitney to be embroiled in substance abuse it would be the lack of self esteem and love she felt as a child, the seeming rejection/removal of her real mother and the lack of identity she felt in the family she was forced to be part of. I’m Gen Z but I knew about her (as well as a lot of the other women on here 😂). Mainly because I became so obsessed with black women of the 70s and 90s during my teenage years. Looking at them really helped me feel beautiful/confident. Grateful for that period of my life. Btw I love your videos ❤

I read Cici Houston's memoir when it came out and it was "detached" when discussing her children and family. She simply wasn't around. I am a mother and if I had to write my memoirs, I could share stories that are heartfelt and evoke emotions. She didn't accomplish this. In fact, she emphasized way more on her "pioneering" to gain respect for the work of back up singers everywhere. Sigh. Look at those cheekbones on Teresa Graves! RIP, Whitney Elizabeth Houston. 😢
Yep. Listened to Cissy's the audio book and wondered "who really loved Whitney." Very detached, but I thought Cissy lost her mother young and sometimes those types are detached. That said Whitney had a lot of "I want my mommy" behavior as an adult. Like you said I thought it was because Cissy worked all the time taking care of the husband too. And some of the things Robin said about things Cissy did or said... I just kind of felt like "I see why people say she was jealous of her own kid." But Leola Brown said something very interesting, kind of around the time all this came out. She said she was at the bank with Whitney and the account had been drained. She said Whitney was embarrassed and visibly upset. Asked her what happened? Said Whitney said "her mother" and "Cissy" drained the account. SMH. I think Whitney was literally driven insane. Her family just saw her as a cash machine. The "industry" is bad enough but to ME the family needed to be cut off... totally. She was used and abused, but she didn't see it - think she just tried to love them harder. And when that didn't work well she slipped into terrible habits her own brother put her on. Robin said brother offered her what she thought was a grass cigarette but it was cr@ck. Robin said she thought she was going to leave this realm getting blown away like that. I wonder is that what happed to Whitney when just went crazy with drugs and weight loss. SMH.

As a kid born in the ‘70s, how is it I’d never heard of Teresa Graves until now? However, I do remember when Whitney Houston came on the scene as a teen model in the ‘80s. Then as a singer, she was incomparable. As an insecure teen, to me she seemed to “have it all”, but as we all know now, this wasn’t true. Both gorgeous, Teresa and Whitney do look and sound a lot alike. Their lives seem similar as well, both very sad, and Teresa’s life and death explains a lot about Whitney herself.😢
