    something i really appreciate about your style of critique is this sense that it's ok for parts of things to be bad, and you can still have a good time with them despite that. your arguments are almost always really convincing to me, but so is your whole vibe of joy when everything's actually working out

    • @irurwurst

      irurwurst yeah lol it’s almost as if there could be a whole huge, popular series of videos critiquing tiny parts of games while allowing that the games are still good, and even include a disclaimer at the beginning saying it is “ok to enjoy things while being aware of their more problematic components” and NOT have like ANY haters at all because that disclaimer would be so sincere and foolproof!

    Tim: 2D Mario is my favorite game series
    Dragon Quest: I... I thought we had something special... (Runs away in tears)

    • @cube2fox
      @cube2fox 4 года назад

      Haha, but 2D Dragon Quest and 3D Dragon Quest are the same genre (classic RPG) while 2D Mario and 3D Mario are not. The former is a linear platformer with emphasis on precise jumping, while the latter is less a platformer than a collectathon with much less emphasis on jumping. The only exception is Super Mario 3D World, which is a bit more like the 2D Mario games in that the levels are linear.
      Also, the gameplay of 3D Dragon Quest is still basically 2D, in that most of the game could be played with a top down camera like in the 2D Dragon Quests. This is because the surface of the Earth is mostly flat.

    I got an ad for Grammarly prior to a Tim Rogers video. It's ironic and hilaious before the video even starts

    • @kotaku
      @kotaku  5 лет назад +23

      george, i gotta say: i hate those grammarly ads. i see them EVERY TIME I come to look at the comments on my own videos. like they're yelling at me, trying to make me believe i don't know what i'm doing. i know what i'm doing. all the examples in the ads make me so mad. "consider removing passive voice"! yeah! i know! i been doin that for like twenty-five years, pal!! they should include some wild oddball examples in that video to maybe give people a sense that their product educates people into better writers, instead of conditioning them into conformity. give me some examples like, "do you really want to use a verb other than 'said' in this quote attribution?" "consider rewriting this sentence to exclude a 'be' verb." "dude, adverbs are hideous. abolish them and instead use better verbs." "you just used two synonymous adjectives separated by a comma. that is the habit of a weak, pathetic writer."
      i will add: i do all my writing in sublime text. it has excellent performance, runs in an unlocked frame rate, never slows down, and is impervious to all spell-checking and grammar-checking functions on this computer. i have turned all of those off, anyway.

    • @DavidWoods255
      @DavidWoods255 5 лет назад +4

      @@kotaku My favourite Grammarly ad is the guy who looks to be in his 30s trying to write something like "me and Jake went to the park" and it corrects him like his mother should have 20 years ago with "uhh, Jake and I".
      I also get irked at those who throw commas between adjectives that mean the same thing. I propose that you do away with the idea of making a game for a while and instead make a counter-app to Grammarly that makes useful but kind of insulting suggestions. Call it "Daddy's English" or "Grammar Heck" and make all the money.

    As I tend to play classic mario-games with a special set of rules, I still like a system with lives very much. When you play in a rogue-like fashion, lives are an important ressource for you to make it through the game, and one of the main reasons to explore stages.
    This game is amazing in both variety and quality in stage designs(which is very important to me) - ghost houses are part of that.

    I do not know what this is, nor after watching the whole thing do I even know if he likes this game, but I do not care, because I LOVE this review.
    As far as Deluxe goes, there's no reason not to buy it if you haven't played either of the U games before, but from personal experience, this is not the best in its series. Is it fun and distracting? Yes. Is it challenging and sustainably memorable? No. Best level design in the series? No, but it gets pretty close. My gripe with this game? It leads you right into the secrets and does not take long to blow through the whole thing wondering what the Hell happened. It is fast-paced, yet linear and derivative at the same time. I never once felt like my life was in danger, and that is a very bad thing for a Mario game. ':/
