Shorter levels were exactly the reason I enjoyed this one. Although they were harder, it only encouraged me to give them another shot rather than stressing over easier obstacles in a much larger stage.
Personally, I wouldn't have minded if the levels were as long as in the other New Soups. I just want difficult Mario levels.
Lame
It's like the Super mario bros 3 levels, they where hard but short.
@Abdoluigi777 luigi is L . Mario is W
i think that both the levels being shorter, the music being faster and luigi himself being "slippery" truly sell how naturally anxious luigi is - idk if it was on purpose, but i love it.
Whether intentional or not on the devs part that's such a cool analogy.
thought that mf being slippery was just me trippin😭
I think the same, they adapted 2D Mario to Luigi's personality
The levels being harder really shows how scared Luigi feels without Mario there to guide him
New Super Luigi U is definitely amazing. I love all of the remixed levels. I just wish there were new bosses.
Yeah i wish there were New Bosses too
@@jaypeterson9256 same it would of
Ikr
I agree with all the comments above
Yes
He mentioned this slightly in the video, but basically every secret exit area has some type of Luigi themed art, the one in one of the snow levels is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen in a Mario game (a star constellation thing)
Or the clever one where the vines create an image of the guy, I love all the love they put into it to show Luigi the well deserved love he should get more of
im pretty sure every single level has a hidden Luigi somewhere in it, it's a very cool detail!
@@ItsTrixis yea, every level has him
7:25 "And instead of being a vertical autoscroller,
_it's more of a horizontal autoscroller_ 😔"
why does the back half of every sentence sound like it's the most dramatic revelation in history
My fiancé is a more strategic player and does amazing in the Mario version because he likes to take his time and get as much coins as possible before beating the level but I’m not as good as it because I use run waaay too often and usually not to my advantage haha! That’s why I love Super Luigi U, it suits my playing style the best and it doesn’t feel like a punishment, it compliments it!
shame i passed on Luigi U when it originally released bc of 2D Mario fatigue. regarding its difficulty, SMB3 levels are also short and challenging, which is why it's my favorite 2D Mario, so Luigi U does seem more up my alley in that respect
This video taught me so much. I had no idea this game was SO DIFFERENT from Mario U! :( Back when this game came out my Older Brother said he didn’t wanna get it since it was “exactly like Mario U but with Luigi” and looks like we were both wrong! Really hoping we get something like year of Luigi again but for different characters. *AHEM Peach and Bowser years! :D*
You can still get deluxe
Bowsers inside story and super princess peach exist
The fact that they lost 500m dollars doing the Luigi year probably means that they won't be doing anything like it again, which is a shame
@@GlossArt I believe now that the switch is on the market, they can definitely pull this off with great success, although in a smaller scale
bowsers fury?
Ah, you didn't mention my favorite change with the Koopaling castles! At the beginning of each castle is a stone carving of the respective Kooaling's face. Its another small detail like the hidden Luigis that I just love.
Love your videos man! You're growing insanely fast and it's great to see. Happy to be on this journey with you. Keep it up!
I saw this in my reccomended less that 20 hours than it was made! I love fresh content like this!!!
You speak about these games with so much passion and wonder and really, a ton of love. It's like I couldn't picture a child version of yourself playing the Mario games like I did growing up being any more excited to be doing so than you seem to honestly be here to this day. That's awesome! Thanks for the info as well.
Dude, this video better hit the algorithm bc this is fr an amazing video
Yeah, i’m watching it from France !
was super excited to see this video in my notifications, the year of luigi has some of my favourite mario games, and this isn't an exception. id love to see more difficulty in mario games, more stuff in a similar style to this would be super cool
i love the positivity about the nsmb series; luigi u is a really cool idea imo; the theming of luigi is nice enough; but having it be a sort of harder more fast paced game is so cool
the luigi eastereggs in luigi u and some future mario games are so good and i love them
luigi u kinda reminds me of a mario maker level pack if it had access to the actual stuff from nsmb; which is cool - its got the theming of luigi and the low time limit and the levels focus mostly around one concept and doesnt extend it to become boring. stuff like the broozers being in a non ghost level with the stars? its like a mario maker level with something being somewhere you wouldnt ever really expect and using them well with other stuff and wwhatnot
i kinda wish i could play luigi u again but my wii u broke ages ago which is sad
Funny thing, when me and my little brother got a Wii U for Christmas back in 2013, the one that came packaged with NSMBU + NSLU, we finished NSLU but never actually completed NSMBU, and we spent a lot of time getting the star coins in Luigi U, just to try to get 100%. That was hard lol.
As a Luigi fan, I only found out about this game today. I've never played this version before but I felt that having playing super Mario bros wii u was a bit too easy in some cases. I'm happy to know they bought some fresh new designs and challenges to super Luigi u. I definitely can't wait to try this game out
Great video! I just found your Channel and the videos are awesome. Keep it up!
PS: weegie time
Thank you for this video! I do have this game but I think little Me never completed this one. Its time to give it a new try! Thanks man
What's everyone's favorite Holiday? Mom: Christmas Dad: Halloween Me: Luigi Day

Honestly, I think nintendo shouldn't make 2D Mario games as difficult as New Super Luigi U. Instead, they should handle it exactly how they did with New Super Mario/Luigi U: make 2 versions of the game, one with Luigi as the protagonist with harder gameplay, and one with Mario as the protagonist with easier levels.
I find it funny that every level in this game has a hidden Luigi that some players may not expect to notice until they realize it’s a secret!
It's super sad how incredibly slept on Luigi U is. It's geniunly one of the most fun times I've had with a game in a long time, and what they manage to do with the budget restraints they had were amazing! Also, awesome video, excited to see more from you in the future!
Currently finishing Luigi U, probably one of the MOST FUN I've had with the NSMB Series!!
What would've been a much better plot is if Mario was the one getting stolen, and luigi was going off to save his brother--
That was genuinely one of the best RUclips videos I’ve ever seen holy crap
Thank you for the vid! I wasn’t going to play this game but now I definitely am.
Mario and Luigi U were my favorite games in the New series, probably because those were the only ones I beat besides 2, and came out when I was a bit more "seasoned" with games. But something about the overworld and even the level design especially in Luigi U like you said makes these games stick out to me. Maybe when I have time I'll check out these games again.
if you want to experience the game without the pressure play as toadette
You deserve every view and subscriber dude, keep this up!
The new super mario bros series is one of the only series I've completely 100%ed every game for and actually can say I've entirely finished and can make a fair judgement on, throughout your series I agreed with your takes on them, from new super mario bros DS and Wii to the new super mario bros and Luigi Us the series really is an amazing one and if they do make another one I hope it's just as innovative as some of the older ones whilst also being as challenging as new super luigi U
Awsome video and Gorgeous edit at the end, well done. (+1 sub)
this video is validating my younger self who wanted this game SO BAD when it came out but was too broke for it lol. maybe i'll see how much it's going for on ebay !! i'd love to give it a try, especially knowing that it's actually a unique and challenging game
Regarding the difficulty of New Super Mario Bros Wii, say-I believe the difficulty of the game was sufficiently challenging *when it came out.* It's getting on now since NSMBW (and WiiU) was released, and in that time, several players (including myself) have become more much more experienced with the games, especially since the release of MM2. It's why many players are probably baffled by how easy NSMBW seems when looking back to it.
It's been 14 years since NSMBW was released. Me as a 9 year-old kid playing Mario isn't the same me playing that game back now.
Awesome vid, btw 😄
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS PLS MAKE MORE
I love the passion you have for gaming. It shows in this video.
Just seeing this on my home makes me want to get my wii u out. I remember enjoying the Mario part, but the time element of New Super Luigi U just made it sooooo good, it's like you have to learn a speedrun strat every time if you want to get all stars in a level
why did i just find your channel yesterday this is so good
Wild! I guess nintendo didn’t do a good enough job of explaining they were all new levels at the time because I skipped this assuming the only difference was like more enemies or something. Gonna check this out now!
I honestly want each NSMB game to have a Luigi campaign attached to it.
Like, have Mario be the easy one that serves as an introduction for kids who are new to both the Mario formula and platforming in general.
Have Luigi stand on the sidelines to give a more challenging experience for veterans of the series and those who mastered the Mario side.
Maybe throw in a Nabbit campaign that ramps up the difficulty even more, namely by removing his immunity to enemies. Like a Kaizo level, relying only on your base moveset.
Who knows, maybe they can throw in a Wario campaign that takes the gameplay of Mario Land 3 - Wario Land 1. With a slower gameplay loop that's more focused on exploration, and a moveset that emphasizes horizontal power rather than vertical mobility.
And they can bring back the power ups from that one for this, but have the flamethorwer hat spit fireballs instead of the unruly stream we got in the first game.
TDLR: Have Mario stay easy for the new kids, have Luigi be challenging for the old timers, Nabbit for those who mastered both, and Wario to test the waters for bringing that series back.
I imagine that, personality-wise, it would probably be more fitting that Mario has the more difficult levels while Luigi has the easier ones. Not for any objective reason, but because I imagine Luigi would _absolutely_ prefer simply having to go through a much easier path while Mario would have no qualms going through hell and back just to rescue someone who's gonna get kidnapped within the next 5 minutes
@@ohmeohmicah True, but Mario's the easily marketable one and draws in the casuals. Meanwhile, Luigi doesn't have this issue and is far easier to use as the "harder campaign" guy because of it.
Edit; I can also imagine the difference in difficulty coming from the games being the stories told by Mario and Luigi, and Luigi just exaggerating how scary the stages were since he's not as brave.
@@YellowScar2014 True.
It makes me indescribably sad that Nintendo lost so much money during the year of Luigi... they took a step away from their golden child Mario to give our favorite brother Luigi some time in the spotlight but it ended up not being a success. After a mistake like that they'll likely never ever try a risk like that again. :(
Which is a darn shame because New Super Luigi U is such a unique and interesting take on the series, and proves just how capable Green Stache can be, given all the levels are more difficult and challenging than Mario's levels.
I think ultimately the problem is at first glance it looks like just New Super Mario Bros. U but with Luigi instead of Mario... which doesn't really encourage good sales. :/
You're passion for the the series and the console maker that was such a big part of my early yrs has nearly brought a tear to my eye. Seriously quite charming.
i remember playing this game when i was very young, thinking it was literally just the same game as mario's original version. me and my mom used to love playing these games and we were in for a big surprise, screaming and shouting trying to dodge evrything the game threw at us when it was least expected. 10/10 game i am definitely replaying this.
Respect one of my top 3 Luigi games 🎮
In the switch port it’s equally as fun, but I’m also gonna play on the Wii U Because it’s so much better The Wii remote is just classic for me with Mario
need a new mario game its my childhood
I know someone who'd have a heart attack with this 'dlsequel'. she plays nsmb games in the exact opposite way to the premise of this game. she has a turtle pace while trying to collect literally everything.
she should play nsmb2
Luigi’s first debut was actually in a Game & Watch game
Excellent DLC, excellent game! My only grudge would be the bosses. If they give you a time bonus for reaching them, at least they could’ve made them harder or add some sort of surprise mechanic that may throw the players off.
Certainly the most fun I’ve had with a “Mario” game in a while :]
NSMBU+NSLU, the combo pack you could get alongside the Wii-U at the time, is the best NSMB game overall. Don't @ me
The ending of this video was great :)
Difficulty in a super Mario game has been always an aspect that, personally, I have always love about
I don't know... Maybe it is more satisfying completing a level that made you go serious on it
New Super Luigi U is one of my favourites.
Another banger my man! Keep the grind up 💪
we need this 2d mario rumor to be real even if its a launch title for the next switch
You should do videos on DKC Country Returns & DKC Tropical Freeze! 👀
🙃
I can’t believe this game already 10 years old!
The shorter level design style reminds me a bit of SMB3, where stages were usually a bit more challenging than your usual Mario game, but it was compensated by making the levels quite short for the most part.
my favorite game in the NEW series.
Definitely the most underrated new super ____ bros game out there
so luigi is in more new super mario games than mario is
really i found all you video good straight to the point and very cool opinion on the game
If more Mario games all came with an optional version like this, it would in my opinion be a great way to make them more accessible to both casual players as well as people who want something more fresh. However, luigi U is a lot more than a simple hard mode, so it would likely take far more development time to make both versions in one package before launch.
Needed something to watch while eating, and this turned out to be good
I love this channel. He doesn't for more like other nintendo fans. He appreciates what we have.
I understand what you mean about the final boss fight. It would be cooler if Nintendo used Luigi's platforming skills. Imagine a boss fight, in which you have to jump on narrow platforms, and try to nock out Bowser Jr. from his cart.
You scared me for a second at the end lol
It's like upon release of a game the internet incredibly misjudge it, but then years later people finally finds the truth.
Another banger of a video!
Didn't play any New Super games, but everytime I see someone talking about them, New Super Luigi seems to be on the top of everyone
i love this series so much
I think your channel will start to grow even faster! I hope so at least.
Luigi was my favorite character, I always wanted to play him when I was a kid. I used to think that Luigi "jumped" better than the rest of the characters as a kid because he was taller, lol. Anyway, never got to play New Super Luigi U because I didn't have a Wii U, but I was just happy that he got his own game. Great use of the color green on the packaging and the design!
Of course it's amazing, it's Luigi.
"i wish we got peach as a playable character"
Toadette: am i a joke to you
12:11 Domtendo: DIE ROTEN MÜNZEN!!!
I just started playing Luigi U again and this video is on my home page. Nice.
The end of this video is just Godlike.
love your outros!
Regarding Peach as a playable character, there is DS game called Super Princess Peach you might wanna try.
This channel is gonna blow up with like 100K+ subs and I’m gonna be able to say I was an OG 😎
This game is exactly what the more experienced mario players always wanted: Difficult, fun and original levels, easter eggs, the preassure the levels make to you... And the idea of including a character like Nabbit allows less experienced players to also enjoy the game. It's just an amazing game.
And since deluxe included Luigi u toadette is similar to nabbit
Ah ah I came into the comments to give my opinion and suggest you give your opinion on mario 3d land and I see you did it ^^ next video enqueued :)
I remembered that I had liked luigi U but couldn't say why. The low level of difficulty of recent mario games is a problem and I think that, and the diversity of situations, are the reasons I liked it more than the other similar mario games. This is what I liked in mario 3d land too (along with the gorgeous 3d).
You should collab with Nintendo Hero. Both great retrospective channels on Nintendo games.
I think having an a-side, where it’s the regular story and normal Mario levels, and a b-side, able to be used after the final boss (or by some other fashion) would be a great formula, great for both causal and tryhard players.
Love the Content ✊👌
This was the only mario game i was able to beat as a child
Wow there’s a new 2D Mario rumor going around and i just found out i really hope it’s true and they actually try something new again and be creative i would love to see creative type bosses like how new super Mario bros ds did them but harder it would be cool
Amazing review man. I bet your channel will grow a ton!
I always felt like new super mario bros u deluxe (terrible name lol) but if I ever do buy it at least I know I'm probably gonna enjoy luigi U. I feel like current mario games are too easy, and I want a little bit of difficulty, like mario world, but more polished. And this game is exactly that!
Good vid, but the amount of star coins you missed is painful
16:45 “No, stupid bowser”
*Video ends*
this game is really nostalgic for me. in 2016 when I was in 2nd grade there was this 14 year old boy who had an Xbox 360 and Wii U, and he left them at my dads work so when I was off school I would come to my dads work and play this game and Halo Reach all the time. Eventually they both broke or were just taken away (I don't remember) so I didn't get to play both of those games anymore and eventually forgot both of the names of them. but then eventually I got an Xbox One (I chose an Xbox because of that 14 year old) and got to play not only Halo Reach but the entire franchise. eventually in 2021 my dad found some old 360 and WII U games in the basement that the 14 year old had forgot there. and one of those games where Super Luigi U so after I had finally remembered the name of the game I searched it up and found out it was on Switch. So now I want a Switch.
I cant believe that 2nd grade me was able to play this game because of how hard it is
oh and also on the WII U I played some Skylanders game
This was a hard freaking game man, I loved it
I just 100% NSMB2 and was craving some more luigi content since when i beat the game i started playing as luigi in the post game, and omg is this game so good!! I was really not expecting the difficulty curve at first I honestly thought maybe i chose hardmode by accident bc mario games never felt rushed like this but it works so well!! I always find myself rushing to the star coins and its soooo fun, some of the previous mario games had stupid places for hidden coins so im glad they switched up the formula. But yeah this review and game are both great highly highly recommend!! Cant wait to 100% it :)
As a kid I had to give up on this game because I couldn’t beat one of the fast levels in world 2- I need to revisit it at some point
I didn’t know this existed
when you said "no" at the end it lowkey gaslighted me lol
great video my man
My dad is at Chicago and is leaving in a couple days and wil he is doing that we will get new super Mario u wii and new super Luigi u Wii U and we are so excited to get them
In Larry's trigger happy castle there is a limited amount of king bills at the end of the level. I think the limit is 5 since it's been a while since I last checked
Maybe this game would’ve been slightly better if saving peach was switched to saving daisy
