It was a fun game, but I didn't like it as much as I wanted to. There were no returning power ups besides the fire flower and star and I'm just not that attached to the new ones. The elephant is fine I guess, drill is cool but nothing special, and the bubble power up is a great one. Why didn't we see the blue shell, penguin, or propeller hat? Plus, the bosses are just terrible. Sure, we had the Koopalings the past 3 games but replacing them with only Bowser Jr was not an improvement. Also, why does the multiplayer camera focus on 1 person instead of panning out like in Wii? Now instead of being able to spread out a little bit you're stuck to each other. Overall, I enjoyed the game and liked it, but I still think Wii was just a better experience. Better new power ups, unique bosses (at the time), and a way better multiplayer experience.
Bro the bosses are better. It’s ONLY worse for YOU because you only fight Jr and Bowser at the end obviously. First improvement is that you can’t just jump on their heads RIGHT after their invulnerable phase. Now you can actually let them do their attacks and make the boss fight last more than 10 seconds. Oh and it isn’t a 3 hit kill like always. I swear if the bosses weren’t all Jr, people would like them. They are better fights then the other NSMB games. Not by a lot but definitely better

Not that it doesn't have great qualities(Looks amazing, creative, etc), but it messes up the #1 reason I play these games, and it messes up very badly. The local multiplayer, in my experience, is genuinely terrible. Firstly the obvious thing, you can't interact anymore with your friends, no more throwing or jumping on each other. That takes a lot of fun out of the game for me, as someone who plays these games casually as a means to bond with others. And while you can still mess with each other by throwing shells at each other, hurting/killing each other serves almost no purpose and actually negatively affects you, which discourages that kind of thing too, which sucks. Why? Because you now all share lives. And since you can't mess with your friends, that means all you have to do in the game is play as intended and just beat the game. That's it. That doesn't sound so bad, but that brings me onto my next point; The player following system is actually terrible. Since there is nothing to do other then beat the level, when you play with others, usually people just get left behind if you go too fast or if they aren't as skilled, or if the level set up is vertical or timing based. This pretty much either kills all your friends or leaves them unable to play until the certain section or level is over, or it forces you to slow down and wait, essentially just handicapping you. You do realise the reason they removed collision between players was so they could make the levels less empty for single player.
