I don't get when people say that the Penguin Suit makes the Ice Flower irrelevant. It ONLY appears in World 3, the very start of World 4, and very scarcely in the Power-up Panels minigame. The Penguin Suit is a rare item; as the game goes on it becomes much more inconvenient to go out and get one.
It's like the Hammer Suit in Mario 3, sure the powers are different but they serve the exact same purpose - chucking stuff to take out enemies. Nothing special about the Hammer Suit but it's rare and that's cool.
Im pretty sure the ice flower also give you the ability to shoot 2 snowballs when you spin jump which is one think i dont remember being able to do with the penguin suit. Also, the penguin suit makes you not slip on ice, so i guess if you wanted to be able to shoot snowballs but also wanted to have ice stay slippery its optional, but thats a reach and a half, lol.
I actually found my old wii in the my attic yesterday, and I was so excited to play this game and Mario kart with my younger brother and sister. It was the most fun I’ve had in a video game in years.
When I moved into my university residence in my first year someone on my floor had a Wii and we played for 9 hours(until 4:30 am) to 100% this game it was so much fun to play this classic again!
We recently got our old Wii up and running again after being skeptical about it actually working. This was the first game I decided to play. Beat it as fast as I could, going world 1 cannon to world 5, world 5 cannon to 8, then secret exit in 8-2 to airship and castle. Man, was it a blast. Actually, I think it was my first mario game I'd ever beaten. Now I'm going through every world to unlock their W9 counterparts and MAN. I think this is one of the greatest games of all time.
I very distinctly remember the day we bought this game. We had gone to the store specifically to buy MarioKart Wii, but they ended up being out of stock. Then we saw this game, which we had never heard of before, but something about it just looked so cool, so we asked our mom if we could get that instead. She called up dad to see if he would be okay with it, and at first when he heard "Super Mario Bros" he was like "Hm, I was hoping you would use this money on a game that we could all play together," and I was like "It says up to four people can play it!" and he was like "??? Okay if that's really true then I guess?" It turned out to be one of our most played Wii games ever, and we still come back to it from time to time.
I don't care how people feel about these games; I still love them and they are always cozy to return to In a world where it seems like every game is constantly trying to out-do the last; I'm really glad that we have games like this that still exist. They remind me of simpler times Great vid by the way
Its better to have simpler games than to be ontop of every other by having all these wacky ideas or a 2d-ish artstyle. Which is why i still hold the new soup series as my fav mario games til this day, even over wonder (wonder and amazing tho)
Yes they are unoriginal and all but yeah it’s amazing to play with my friends and just when i want to game. The new super Mario bros games have the best co-op Mario of all time.
This game is super nostalgic to me because I was born in 1997 and I grew up playing many Mario games with my cousins. As we played super mario world, I used to think that it would be very cool if we could play at the same time instead pf taking turns (with Mario and Luigi playing the same levels together). So when I saw the trailer for this game as a 11 years old, it blew my mind, it was a childhood dream becoming true. I bought this game as soon as it came out and I had a blast playing it with my cousins and friends. Honestly one of the best couch multiplayer games I ever played. Mario Wonder nowadays is cool, but I miss the chaos of jumping on each others heads
This was my favorite game when I was 7. I managed to get my old Wii out 2 months ago but I realized something. I lost my copy of new super Mario bros Wii and the laser pickup wasn’t working which means my Wii couldn’t read any games. It’s been in the store for a diagnosis and repairs which is gonna take a while. But once I get it back I’m buying a copy of new super Mario bros Wii and gonna see if I can 100% it.

I actually loved that the world themes matched up so nicely betwen the DS and the Wii version. It really makes it a little bit difficult for me to wrap my mind around the newer Super Mario titles because I just associate those themes so much with what a Super Mario game looks like
I grew up with this game and I recently replayed it with my younger brother I forgot how fun it is I have loads of memories playing multi player with my cousins definitely underrated
I'm glad you judged this game on its own merrets. Many people give this game a hard time for what came after it but at the time a lot of what was in this game was honestly phenomenal and I believe still holds up.
i’ll never forget the childhood em memories of playing this as a kid with my family or my neighbors thankfully with either group we always had 4 so it made summers that more special
Honestly, of the New Super Mario Bros. games, Wii is my favorite one and it's HEAVILY nostalgic for me. It was BOTH a big part of my childhood AND my first introduction to Mario, and it was also my VERY FIRST introduction to video games as a whole. Even though I've literally only actually played it TWICE, once when I first got it, and the second time being just 3 days ago, my skill at the game had evolved like crazy (Presumably from all those hours I put into Mario U). And I was ECSTATIC to get to World 8 and just finish the game in the fastest route to World 8 so that I could honestly go to World 8 once more and just listen to it's theme, which the World 8 theme in Wii is THE BEST world theme in ALL the NSMB games, and there's NO changing my mind on that. When Super Guide completed the final level for me, I'd always just go back to World 8 after booting up the game and listen to the theme while I did other things and not play the game (Which is why I said I've only ACTUALLY played the game twice)
I can actually attest to 100%ing this game with a group of friends. We did it a few yers back and it took us about 2-3 days. We kept on getting in each others way and trolling each other so much that it actually started legitimate fights among our group. But when we eventually got the final secret exit and that notification of "you have completed everything in New super mario bros. Wii" popped up, The cheers we cried were something I'll never forget
Awesome analysis I’ve never played this game because my parents didn’t wanna get me a Wii since I had just gotten a DS☠️ So I grew up playing only the DS version, which I recently found the other day and played again. Though I didn’t play the Wii version, new super mario bros was my first ever video game and I still feel nostalgic just watching this even though i didn’t play it. Awesome vid dude
As I grew up with the ds game, I was never able to get used to controling with a wii remote making the game more challenging for me. The final boss was great. It might be time to pick it up again
I love this game. It’s my favorite 2D Mario game in my collection. If I had one complaint, it’d have to be the lack of classic enemy usage: For example, the Chain Chomps make 1 appearance after the Iggy Koopa fight, the Hammer Bros are in 1 level, and Spike only appears in 3 levels, one of which is 8-4.
To me, it's the best. The New Super Mario Bros. series was an amazing series. DS introduced the formula and world structure, Wii introduced the propeller mushroom, 8 world progression, and Ice Flower, as well as so many environments within each biome. With NSMB2 we saw the return of the Tanooki suit, and almost everything from Wii that could be ported to the 3DS, including music, models, and sound effects. It was a brilliant callback to older Mario Games. Oh yeah, and the coin stuff was really fun. NSMBU created the world map, added the Tanooki Suit, brought back all the old powerups except Mega Mushroom, made World 9 more accessible, and has amazing post-game benefits. So many levels and environments to unlock. NSLU took everything NSMBU had and introduced harder, shorter levels with a shorter time-limit. The two games complement each other perfectly, and it gave Luigi a chance to Shine, and make Nabbit playable, so your little brother or sister won't constantly die every 2 seconds and complain. Finally, NSMBU Deluxe combines the 2 games into a cheaper package ($80->$60), allows you to play as whoever you want to, adds Toadette and Peachette to appeal to girls and have a slightly easier mode without the penalty of seeing the purple Nabbit complete on the World Map, and added the ability to twirl in midair even if you have a squirrel suit! Wii had a huge role to play in the series, introducing more verticality and the iconic tower and castle themes. It was the first EPIC Mario game, and it deserves its place in the video game hall of fame.
@@Daft0Cean968 oh for sure, my apologies. I meant 2D Mario. I love all 2D Mario but the Wii game was the first truly epic 2D Mario Adventure. As much as I love SM64, Galaxy 1 was the first completely awesome 3D mario
im currently age 21 and the new super mario bros line were the games coming out as i got into gaming and i never understood how they got so much hate. They are flawed but still provided a great gaming experience.
I have one criticism of this game that you didn't touch on but ever since I first thought about it, I can't get it out of my head. The movement in this game is slow and boring. Running fast through a level doesn't actually feel that fast. It doesn't feel the same as running through smb3 or smw or even smb wonder. If you play all those games, then this one, you'd see what I mean. Still a great game, still many fond memories (psssst smbDS has the better music), still replayable today. But in terms of its movement it's just slow and lacks that pop, that snap you feel in other mario games. And actually mario galaxy has this issue too. The movement is super slow and floaty which is cool, but not always the best gameplay
I grew up playing super mario world on my game boy advance but I still think Super Mario Bros wii is an amazingly fun platformer that only gets better with co-op
This is the definitive game of having a brother. I have yet to complete wonder but I have a feeling if we were able to ground pound each other into holes it’d be a different story.
A very simple reason why this game is so much better than games like U or DS is because of the art. The tilesets and background are just so much better, and the world maps are so much more creative. Something so simple really adds a lot to each level in the game, and a few of my favorites are the volcano theme, snow theme, and desert theme in this game
Personally i enjoy every nsmb game, i get why people dont and why its frustrating that they get super samey, but i really do love how simple and enjoyable and relaxing these games are
I would agree with the window open on a summer day if i didn't live in the south and if you open the window you are instantly vaporized by the 95-100 degree weather
I played this growing up alotttttttt, remember every aspect of it while still learning about it from these vids. The game was and still is great, i find it better than the new mario bros u deluxe. Me and my girlfriend play and beat 100% of mario bros u deluxe, we also did new super mario bros wii on dolphin emulator a few years back, recently i got an actual wii modded it and we are doing it all over again. I would say within 6 gaming hours we beat the entire game and have most of the stars, we have to go back to minimal levels to get the stars for world 9 then we will have it 100%. We are really enjoying it all around and its great to play together. Shortly later ill be introducing her to the rom hacks of this game and hopefully we can still have fun 😁
I want this to remade/updated or whatever you call it for the switch. Maybe making it possible to play with peach or other characters in a New Game+ i remember playing this with friends and calling yellow toad pee toad (i was too young to call it piss toad).
agreed, the raft gimmick was unique and I replayed the level many times as a kid just for that, it was satisfying to kill all the enemies falling down with the power-ups it gave you, plus the speedrun for it looks a little cool imo. might be a hot take, but it's one of, if not my favorite level in wii

The answer to your question is yes. It is not an arguable position
The end made me smile and I almost teared up⭐️❤️
Having weliketoplay gameplay in this made me so nostalgic
I grew up playing super mario world on my game boy advance but I still think Super Mario Bros wii is an amazingly fun platformer that only gets better with co-op
The bowser fight as a 7 year old was so epic. I remember getting the game for Christmas and going bananas.
Also phase 2 bowser is peak gaming
This is the definitive game of having a brother. I have yet to complete wonder but I have a feeling if we were able to ground pound each other into holes it’d be a different story.
I’ll make sure my kids get to play both of these games on ds and Wii, Truly, some of the greatest Nintendo content ever made
this game is the reason i speedrun every game as fast as possible. depending on the game im not more than 15min -3 hours off the main normal% speedrun
*In an angry tone:* "THIS IS HORRENDOUS BAD..." *Then in a cheerful tone:* "Star Coins!"
I actually started to play this game a few days ago & it's one of the best Mario games
Gettin this recommended right after 100% the game (after 14 years)
A very simple reason why this game is so much better than games like U or DS is because of the art. The tilesets and background are just so much better, and the world maps are so much more creative. Something so simple really adds a lot to each level in the game, and a few of my favorites are the volcano theme, snow theme, and desert theme in this game
I speed run this game and I keep forgetting that it’s possible to have fun on this game but this shit is such a cool game it’s so awesome
My sister figured out that the propeller mushroom had a grown pound varient and would brag about figuring it out and wouldnt tell me. I miss this tho
loved this video i related with all the points he made ❤❤
Bro used WLTP/WRTP gameplay...
Instant S-Tier youtuber i subscribed
This is probably my favorite guilty pleasure of a game. Its so much fun.
Idk if Kamek using they/them is canon in any way but I find it an inspired and enlightened choice
I'm interested on your opinion on the wii u one...
Close to 40k subs ☁️🧊🍊⭐️🐡
Personally i enjoy every nsmb game, i get why people dont and why its frustrating that they get super samey, but i really do love how simple and enjoyable and relaxing these games are
Ah best part of my childhood
I didn’t get to play this on the ds but I loved playing it on the Wii when it came out on that console. Me and the fam
This was always fantastic, nostalgia may be clouding my judgment, but this was the 1st game I ever played so I don’t care
12:40 me…. It’s was me
i had one friend and when i went over to his house we would just play new super mario bros wii the whole time
MAKE AN ENTIRE 2D MARIO SERIES RETROSPECTIVE VIDEOOOO❤
I would agree with the window open on a summer day if i didn't live in the south and if you open the window you are instantly vaporized by the 95-100 degree weather
The raft level is a skill issue that becomes a good hard level with the propellor
Played it last night. Beat it in one sitting. Fucking love that game
With emulation this game works really well on modern phones and it's genuinely pretty fun to play on the go
what about motion controls like tilting the controller or shaking it?
Will there ever be a vid on nsmbwii mods, cause its one of the more popular modding communities with who easy it is to build with
I want this to remade/updated or whatever you call it for the switch. Maybe making it possible to play with peach or other characters in a New Game+ i remember playing this with friends and calling yellow toad pee toad (i was too young to call it piss toad).
This game is the first 2D Mario game I've played and is the default mario game for me.
The discord link in the description doesn’t work
should be fixed!
Just 2 days ago i installed a wii emulator on pc and the rom, i finished 100% of the game in one day
5-4 is goated bro what do you mean, well except the star coins
agreed, the raft gimmick was unique and I replayed the level many times as a kid just for that, it was satisfying to kill all the enemies falling down with the power-ups it gave you, plus the speedrun for it looks a little cool imo. might be a hot take, but it's one of, if not my favorite level in wii
Yo man do Donkey Kong Returns!!!
I have such nostalgia for this game. I will always love it 😎👍
this was recommended to me at 4:30am. is this a sign?
6-3 has always been my favorite level from nsmbw
15 years later and we are still not sure if it's good !
