  • Everything that anyone has ever liked about a Zelda game happens in its most perfect form in the first 30-minute setpiece of the 1993 Game Boy masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a beautiful screen-for-screen remake of which is coming out next month on Nintendo Switch. Listen to me go into extreme detail about the brilliant design of every screen layout in this hour-long video.

    the sweating is intentional. it’s hot in front of those lights. a faker or a poser would have a fan or an assistant with a towel nearby to refresh between takes.
    well, you can’t do anything between takes if there’s just one take. the sweat provides visual continuity

    I stumbled upon this guy recently when searching for every video on Dragon Quest 11 Echoes of An Illusive Age. Since then I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of all his videos. He’s really talented at making things sound really interesting with his demeanor. There’s something about him that is so familiar like his archetype is someone from a past generation that was a good friend who I haven’t seen in ages. I’m 35 and also look 10+ years younger and people are surprised to know I’m not in my 20s. The difference is although I love a lot of the same games I do not have the IQ or memory to recall all this information nor the skills to make it interesting. People tune out the second I try to explain a video game to them unless they are also a gamer who knows the game I am talking about. Not to put myself down but just to say how impressed I am with all his content.

    Can't believe he's only played it 8 times. By Tim's standards I would've expected 30 - 500 times.

    I love this man and I love this game. One of my top 10 games of all time for sure. It’s up there with Skyrim, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Resident Evil 4 and others. Just a timeless game. I go back to Link’s Awakening (and Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, and other top down Zelda games) whenever I just need some comfort food gaming. The worlds in these games are etched into my memory and the soundtrack is a shortcut into many happy memories of simpler times in the world and my own life. The best part is the game really holds up so my memories aren’t fully rose tinted, it’s good.

      Well, I can extrapolate that to mean you're going to think his Cyberpunk 2077 review is about 22 days long.

    I have split the viewing of this video into 5 small episodes and it was amazing. I can't wait to play this game and based on this I should be able to succeed at least until the end of the first dungeon. Thank you for this Tim (and the KOTAKU team).

    How in the hell can you remember things in so much detail Tim? Are you some kind of savant?

      “savant” has various historical meanings, though its current meaning implies disability, which is not the case with me. i’m not a savant, i’m just a weirdo with a (near) perfect memory. i try not to talk directly about this too much because i like keeping the flavor of bizarrely personal hatred people email me on an hourly basis consistent just for general comfort’s sake, though i did attempt to break the ice a bit in the corresponding post about this video on kotaku dot com: kotaku.com/i-remember-every-single-detail-of-the-first-thirty-minu-1837523868

    i think about this video from time to time. His photographic memory of this game is incredibly impressive.

    • @Riridium
      @Riridium 3 года назад

      I'm not sure if he's ever brought it up in any of his videos, but he does have a weird, very rare form of perfect recall called hyperthymesia. It only works for subjective memories, or something like that. That's the reason he's always going back into things that have happened to him with such uncanny specificity.

    • @SaveDataTeam
      @SaveDataTeam 3 года назад

      @@Riridium He's definitely mentioned it more in his recent videos. I know it's something he and other people with this condition come to hate, so I feel bad, but it is impressive how he uses it in his script writing and videos.

    That vertical slice logo is painfully good. No, It is not a vertical slice of itself, but I saying that it is would be fun. Nice logo!
