Holy Rogers, Tim, that got real. Just wanted to say I can relate with the infertility :( The wife and I have been trying for 18 months and recently got some less than favorable news on my end. There's still a chance at a child through crazy expensive procedures, procedures that insurance does not cover AND do not have a 100% success rate to boot. The whole thing just sucks, and just wanted to say I can sympathize. Happy to hear you came to terms with it eventually, hoping I can make it there some day. Thanks for being real Tim!
Lol don't know why I felt the need to talk about my life problems in a RUclips comment, but hey, I did and you read it.
UPDATE: Thank you all for the positive feedback and well wishes. Adoption was always on the table for my wife, however not long after this original comment, I went and saw another urologist in Chicago (we're from Milwaukee) for another opinion. He explained to me and my wife that despite my rare condition, he was confident he would find living sperm inside my body and through a relatively inexpensive (compared to other procedures) called a TESE, extract it. The way he broke it down for us really gave us the hope we needed to move forward, plus we discovered our insurance would cover more than we anticipated. The small tissue sample I had to surrender may make me less of a man but it was a thousand times worth it, because I am happy to report that we are expecting our first child next January! We announced it in a fun way as well, with a Dad Joke video: ruclips.net/video/_-UmyN1EQ3U/видео.html
Our prayers were answered in so many ways, through our insurance coming through for us, to medical advancements and amazing doctors, and all the support from friends and family and even strangers like you guys. If anyone struggling with infertility happens to read this, don't give up! Miracles happen.

If your sperms are immobile you might try something, but you will probably need a strong will.
A german TV show (pretty sure it was Galileo on Pro7 but I can´t find a video, it is long ago) had 3 men as test subjects, all of which had the walking dead sperms, one a little bit, another pretty much and the last one almost completely immobile, all three of them were infertile.
They put them on sth like a raw vegan juice diet, meaning they were only allowed to drink freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices, no other food. They weren´t keen as they "were real men loving their meaty meals".
Guess what had happend after 6 weeks? (yes, sorry for that, U can´t expect wonders after one day)
All three#s sperms were much more mobile. Even the one completely infertile would have been able to "make" a child as the number of healthy sperms had increased a lot.
I know it must seem impossible and extremely hard if used to regular food but if you really wanted children it may be worth a try. In the end it would be better for your body anyway.

The love you would have for an adopted child would be no less real or valid than the love you'd have with a biological child. Lots of kids need help and if you're looking to start a family please consider using it as an opportunity to reduce the amount of sadness in the world.

You've mentioned in tweets that making RUclips videos as a living isn't your ideal. That makes watching these feel like watching my favorite filmmaker having to make car commercials which is somewhat sad. But they're the best "car commercials" I've ever seen. They're polished, rewatchable, funny, visually appealing, and intellectually stimulating. While you may wish you were able to make a living expressing your creativity another way, I'm grateful that you doing it this way gives me the chance to enjoy it so frequently and extensively.

Ugh, I was trying to avoid Kotaku so I wouldn't get sucked into another Tim Rogers video, but lo and behold the RUclips algorithm throws this into my recommendations and here I am.... whatever, not like I needed this 45 minutes for cleaning....
Edit: Dang man, that story really hit hard.
Ya know, I used to work in childcare, and one thing that's always an issue with youth groups like the the Boys and Girls club or those Big Brother/Sister programs is that there's never enough guys to volunteer and help out, which is a shame since statistically things have been getting harder for boys over the years in many facets of life. I'm sure as a grown adult older than myself there's a good chance you are well aware of that fact (or already do something like that now), so me sharing that is mostly just a way of saying that I think you'd be a great fit for one of those programs. After all, look how many of us show up because you're specifically the one doing a video, simply because we think you're that cool/informative.
Heck I'm a grown @$$ man, and the fact that my mentor at work will take a little time out of his day just to talk about books we like with me makes getting up in the morning that much easier day after day.

2017 and 18 were really good years for games. People on RUclips love to say that "games are in serious trouble, dude" and sure AAA games are pretty regularly some dull shit but the amount of world class games that have come in the last 6 years is absurd and you would never run out unless you dedicated your life to it, by which point a whole bunch of newer great games will have come out. People need to chill the flip out about that. Let the big companies put out the filler trash. Play something else, theres plenty of it

Yeah, I've never gotten the Kotaku hate, really, but maybe it's because I didn't start following the site until the last couple of years. Any outlet that will consistently fund and support actual investigative journalism on gaming (eff yes Cecilia D'Anastasio, Nathan Grayson and Jason Schreier), while also basically allowing Tim Rogers to do whatever he wants is a-okay in my book.

Oh, no doubt. It's been an absolute delight watching Gita and Tim play around with the Kotaku XP format this year, which makes me sad that the show looks like it's gone away. Heather and Tim's Hitman Blood Money is another one of the year's highlights, and I really hope we'll get to see more from that combo. Also, Maddie Meyer's recent Smash video with Paul made it abundantly clear that she needs to be in more content. Anyone who's followed her private side projects outside of Kotaku already knows this, but she's amazing on camera.

I feel like GOW offered a specific kind of fatherhood for people to play through, and even though I'd be a perfect candidate to be enthralled by it, I'd like to see different kinds of parental set ups be celebrated like that. I'd like to see Samus be a dad.

  • @SuperSpyKindaGuy
    @SuperSpyKindaGuy 3 года назад

Your exposition about fatherhood reminded me of my own experience with miscarriage, loss of a child and how sometimes things do not go as we planned. I felt solace in the idea that while you have went through your own loss of parentalship, you did not allow it to stop you from doing what you love (writing things about the visual-action medium of video games) or from even experimenting with different glasses to decorate your face with (all of which, have looked goodly stylish). Sometimes in order to prove we are strong, we do not need to kill various Gods with axes, so much as pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and continue what we can do with our time here on earth. Thank you for sharing what you experienced, for it made me know that I am not alone and that I could even thrive in a post-parental skill-self world I find myself in. Your art is understated and fun, thank you very much for sharing it with us, and me in particular.

The story of you teaching a boy how to play guitar on a whim and him later on in life signing a record label makes me want to bawl.

With this and the Let's Go Pokemon video, thank you for making me feel comfortable talking about/having a sense of humour about my Crohn's. I'm not trying to be funny right now.

Tim Rogers I love everything you make and I am not your mother. I guess I also around the same age and lived in Japan and speak Japanese so I feel some connection like enjoying your content enables me to love myself like the self centered human being I am. Anyway I hope you feel valid and loved.

Tim Rogers is the Hemingway of video game critics. There's a lot I'd do to have a reasonably long conversation with the guy.

First Kotaku video I've seen. Took me a while to realise is wasn't a computer voice and actually someone talking. Anywho, it was good and I'm subscribing.

I started to have feels during the God of War segment. As the story got sadder and sadder I thought, "oh no, I don't think he's going to make a joke anymore, this is getting too real." And then holy shit, what followed had me rolling on the floor laughing. Tim, please never change, you're amazing.
