1000 Miles on one S&B Tank of Fuel - Tow Rig Tech

- Опубликовано: 30 апр 2020
- Now don't get me wrong I really like my 2013 Ford F250 Super Duty with the 6.7 Powerstroke Diesel engine but the one thing I absolutely hate about it is the tiny fuel tank. 26 gallons is not enough fuel when you are hauling as you average about 200 miles between fill ups. Well S&B tanks has the solution. A 56 gallon replacement S&B tank that goes in the stock location thus over doubling your fuel mileage without sacrificing bed space. Winning! So this time on Tow Rig Tech we are going to install this mega tank and show you how to reprogram your computer to adjust for it! I won't get into the whole S&B tanks vs Titan fuel tanks as they both seem to be quality products with good reviews. The 6.7 powerstroke fuel tank removal step is the hardest part as the vent and feed line on the sending unit can be a pain but after that is was smooth sailing for us. After installing this F250 replacement fuel tank I can tell you that S&B obviously knows what they are doing. I didn't get my truck all the way full but after some driving is said 873 miles to empty and stayed there for a long time so it is possible we can see as much as 1000 Miles to Empty on one tank! Let us know what we should do next in our pursuit for the ultimate tow rig build.
Here is the link to the tank as installed- amzn.to/3bSRXyH

Fuel capacity has never been a liming factor for me as far as stops when traveling are concerned. My wife's bladder is the limiting factor. So if I had a thousand gallon tank, I would still be stopping every two or so hours.
That’ll happen
lol
My car runs on waste veggie oil so the stops aren't my problem, just my wallet😅 (0.65€/L of WVO compared to 1.30+€/L of diesel)
I was thinking the same thing. We usually stop every couple of hours whether we need gas or not.
LMAO! I was wondering who was going to leave the "wife's bladder" comment.
There's a special feeling when you get your tow rig just how you like it! That tool loan program by S&B is service oriented business too!

Nice! I installed the transfer flow 50 gallon in my 2012 6.7 years ago. Did in my driveway with basic tools and an atv jack to lower the old and raise the new tank. Had to lift up the rear end of the truck a little bit with my floor jack but it was all pretty straight forward and I saved a ton of money not having to pay someone else to do it. Love having the extra fuel onboard.

I went with the Titan 65 gallon tank. It was a fairly simple install. I had the same issue with the return line. Overall it was a great upgrade and simple install.
Nice.
My Ford dealership is pushing the Titan brand on me also. I have a 2020 F250, but it's gas. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for it?
I used to have a 4.2 jaguar with twin tanks, one on each side, standard from the factory (3.2 and 3.6 models had a single) and it was wonderful for long trips. And back in the short lived fuel crisis 10-15 years ago I used it as a temporary tank for my 2 smaller cars. Just roll the jag between 2 fuel islands at the garage after waiting ages to get in, fill up both sides at once while dozens of people glared at me, then get home and empty it into the smaller (and much more fuel efficient!) cars while fuel was pricey
Worth it just for the dirty looks I got 👌 sitting on the trunk with 2 gas handles into the back of it is a great feeling lol

they are a pro shop that has done a few of these. That is why I went there instead of attempting it at my own personal shop.
Smart thing to have done is mark on the bed where the fuel pump is located. Cut out a section large enough for the fuel pump to be pulled out. Add a rim along the panel you cut out with a thin gasket glued to the rim and then screw the panel back into place. Then if the fuel pump fails in the future, which they inevitable do somewhere in the middle of no-place, you can easily replace the fuel pump with the tank full and in place.
not a bad idea

my dad's last truck was a 1998 f350 4x4 crew cab long bed with a 7.5l gas v8, 5-speed manual and factory high-capacity tow package, basically it was a dually without the dual rear wheels. but the ridiculous thing was the fuel tanks, it had 2-20 gallon tanks due to the rear suspension and no room to install bigger tanks so it had a 350 mile range. so we put a 120 gallon tank in the bed with a fill-rite pump system since that was much easier than trying to tap into ford's fuel system, modified the canopy on the truck with a sliding door on the driver's side so when the main tanks ran low you'd pull over and fill them back up in a few minutes. simple and sweet, and easily removable if the big tank wasn't needed for a long trip.

The 6” driveline (compared to 4” gas) oil the diesel interfered with the tank. They wanted to build a new one based on the fitment issue in his truck. They wanted us to give them measurements then wait for them to redesign and build a new one. Great video, short and to the point, no excess nonsense. What is the magnetic water bottle holder on the side of your bed for? I was thinking that is where you store your fuel treatment? To keep the smell out of your cab? (why not 0n the inside of the bed if that were the case?)
That is one of the magnetic koozies that we sell. It is so you don't lose track of your beer while working in the garage. You can get them at www.bustedknucklegear.com
Just freaking amazing!
Best mod I have done to my truck
That’s awesome I’m buying one now
heck yeah
Great job good video
Thanks!
4:10 that was a multi day project for me on an old ranger, fuel filter was a real pain in the ass too.
it wasn't super easy
Awesome upgrade. Wish we had your fuel prices in Europe though. Stock fuel tank on my RAM 3500 cost about $200 to fill up (holds about 30 gal).
It’s pricey over there
Our government want their share of everything (like all governments do).
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
Here in Sweden every time I fill my truck it costs 120-130 $
And I have a 20 ish gallon tank...
I envy you guys
Gas is about 6$ gallon. Pretty much same for diesel. Maybe 5 on a good day..
yikes
That's the 1st I've heard of not needing to recalibrate the gauge. Every Superduty I've had with a larger tank I had to go to the dealer so they readjust tank size with Ford IDS.
We just used the supplied tuner to make the needed changes
Is there a priming process you have to do when you get all the fuel lines hooked up to the new tank? I thought you don't want any air running through diesels?
turn the key on and let the pump cycle a few times, it bleeds itself.
Now thas a Tank!
MEGA!
I'm just as interested in the adjustable dog's on your lift are those stock or?
not sure
05 gmc yukon 2500 and I have just under 37 gallons. Unloaded I go just under 600 miles. With a trailer (car hauler enclosed) about 400 miles. 6.0 gas engine.
yeah not sure why these have such small tanks
@@BustedKnuckleVideo probably saving some total weight to look good on the max payload numbers. Since its a numbers game between the big 3
@@antonisautos8704 probably right but turns away customers just as fast
Do they have them with sump pickups available?
They have 3 other connections built in for aftermarket fuel kits
The do have saddle bag style tanks that fill in the sides of the bed, they can add 20-30 gallons each
then you have a transfer pump? I like the simplicity of this setup
Mine has the factory 48 gallon tank, 2019 f250 6.7 powerstroke. 900 miles no problem without a load, 500 miles pulling a trailer.
Long bed?
Yes, I wanted the 8’ bed.
Amazing , yea if your driving skitchy gas stations at night are scary,I bet that tank is worth every penny
Best mod to my truck to date.
Oh heck, my dual tank OBS is about to have the front one replaced with a 38 gallon tank and the rear is like 15 so, should have similar capacity. Pretty excited.
I replaced the rear on my OBS with 38 gallons. The extra 150lbs of fuel behind the axle makes the truck level with a full tank.
@@williamfranklin6283 nice, I also bet winter traction with the weight is also handy
@@ApolloTheDerg Rides much better with a full rear tank for sure.
heck yeah
My 04 stock Excursion with the 6.0 diesel will take me 900 miles on the 44 gallon tank. 357,000 and counting. Gotta love the Blue Oval!
How the hell are you getting 20+ mpg in an excursion?
@@BeardedBaldGuy87 That is on the highway at 65. Now pulling the 28' travel trailer knocks it down to 14. Just take it easy and let the truck do its thing. I have gotten 26 mpg doing 60 mph.
what is done to your 6.0?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo no one will believe it but it is stock. I have had the injectors replaced at 200 k or so, a fuel pump, rebuilt trans at 285 k, and regular maintenance. Right now on average town and highway during the week I get close to 17 mpg.
Props to the guy in the background whistling ‘kids by MGMT’
It’s stuck in my head now damn
😂😂
Good stuff
Wish they had an option like that for my 2012 F-450 short wheelbase chassis cab. I was hauling a 35' sailboat from Maine to San Francisco and was getting 5-6mph against head winds. That 32 usable gallons in the fuel tank just doesn't last long and being oversize (12' beam) and right at the 13'6" height, it made some of those stretches between truck stops a bit of a pucker.
but there just isn't much space under the middle of the truck with the DPF system and the DEF tank and deleting a commercial truck gets real sketchy.
Surely there is another solution
This is cool as hell
