The Chicano culture in Los Angeles is fleeting. Not too many generational Mexican-Americans remaining in the area. Most have moved away to more affordable communities in the Central Valley and desert. Now LA is full of recent arrivals (nothing wrong with that). A lot of these newer Angelinos have no idea what real Chicano culture is like.

You could say that the recent arrivals are a new generation of Chicanos in the making. 20-60 years from now, they're going to be generational Angelenos, i don't know if the "Chicano" term will stick with them, but i'm sure they're going to form their own identity, which will eventually intermix with the existing Chicano culture. Also, many of the recent arrivals in L.A., aren't as broadly Mexican like at the turn of the 20th Century in East L.A.; many are El Salvadorian, Honduran, Guatemalan, Ecuadorian, Panamanian and even some Cuban. So I predict that this will undoubtedly intertwine with the existing Chicano element, or grow in to a distinct Latin American culture and identity after a couple of generations in the U.S..

I have lived in Whittier 22 years now. I know there are gangs, but you usually do not see trouble on the streets. Maybe the gangs are a reaction to not having a chance to succeed. The presenter seems to have some street smarts. I wonder, if he could do life all over again, would he follow the same exact foot steps? This VLOG was well done. I saw parts of the city I usually don't go to and parts I do. We need a way to keep kids straight and out of gangs. They need opportunity and they need options, more paths. They need the OGs to help them avoid the pitfalls of the thug life. Sure they need to know how to fight and protect themselves, but they need to rise above the mess and get on the right path. Thank you for this video.

Cool Video. I grew up in Whittier 70s and 80s. I dont remember many homeboys in whittier then, mainly Pico Rivera where i used to hang out with my buddy. I wasnt a homeboy, but they were cool to us. i was born in east LA originally; i live out of state, but i miss whittier. i dont know how people can still live there, way too expensive. unless youre rich.
