I served as a young Ranger Officer before transitioning outside the USMIL. What I learned in Regiment set me up success later on in my career. Everyday you are taught to comprehend and assess the battlefield to drive decision making. When you take a step back, and see how far the 75th Ranger Regiment has come between 2002 to 2019, it is absolutely incredible.
What separates Regiment from the rest of the SOF community is "Specialty Schools"; like Dive and Halo. Some NSW and SF Dudes, and even some Decision Makers on Capitol Hill, will look down on Regiment for that. Some don't realize that a Ranger Team Leader, Squad Leader, or Platoon Sergeant has more formal training in those positions than anyone in the SOF community.
It is very proud moment when Regiment is doing a mission, and a Decision Maker looks at you and says "That was a text book mission, and not a shot was fired. Tell the Ground Force Commander we said thank you and well done". Damn...

SF ODA's that did mostly direct-action missions were called "Combatant Commanders In-extremis Force (CIF) Company. I can't remember if every SF Battalion had a CIF Company or if it was every SF Group that had them. IIRC, Carl from the Tactical Rifleman Channel was in a CIF Company.

Some yoked up bearded rouges walk on your bird or ride a quad into the center and strap it down , as your ready to push out for a village. 75th Ranger Regiment is part of JSOC right? So they are already a Tier 1 Unit? I've never seen anyone clearly explain all the different Ranger designations. Seems a bit confusing from the outside. The units that seem to get the most publicity are Delta and Dev Gru. I'd also love to hear you have someone on from "Orange." That unit seems to be the most secretive of JSOC?

I was an officer. I know they just view it as a tax. I know that Delta is going to skim a good portion of my meat eaters twice a year to attend selection and a percentage of them will be gone forever either because they made it, got hurt, or quit and is never the same afterwards.
The chain of command will say things like “Just train more up,” but deny my requests for more school slots, ammunition, range time, etc.
Then again, maybe they’re a part of a small corner of the armed forces I never saw.

They have crazy physical training like most tier 1 ops but from what i seen and heard its the psychological training that sets them apart. Their selection process is different from everyone else, even devgru. Thats why very few get selected. Delta doesnt take the BEST guy, they take the RIGHT guy.

    • @sorenpx

Tiers don’t exist anymore. RRC has a completely different mission set and culture than the Unit. The Unit is not an SF unit. 1st SFOD-D was their original name and they haven’t used it in decades. They have no relation to SF ODAs. Rangers go to Delta because Rangers want to go kill bad guys and that’s what Delta does.
