- Friday The 13th NES Immersive Playthrough Experience | The New Way To Let's Play - LJN’s Friday then 13th on the NES has gathered quite the cult following in pop culture in recent years despite it being mocked by critics and gamers alike since its release in 1989.
But being able to successfully navigate Camp Crystal Lake and actually defeat Jason is not an easy task.
So whether you just want to relive all the sights, sounds, and nostalgia from your childhood or you finally want to learn how to send that purple and blue terror back to the bottom of Crystal Lake then this is the walkthrough experience for you.
This will be an immersive real time complete walkthrough of Friday the 13th on the NES with occasional pauses to discuss key strategies needed to confidently take down Jason Voorhies.
Trust me you can do this. So fire up that NES and let’s get started.

I hope you enjoyed this new style of video. If you want more info on 8-Bit Steve's strategy guide here is a link www.hagensalley.com/products/friday-the-13th-the-easy-way-guide-hardcover-book If you are interested in my custom Friday the 13th NES controller, my friend @Russ Lyman can help you out.
You know Tyler sir, you could always take your console apart and fix that control deck. I found one in immaculate condition but I still disassembled it and cleaned the 72 pin cartridge slot its contact pads, it works now flawlessly. I will still use my game enhancer each and every time. But I also make codes but you know this sir.
Did you see the Kickstarter book about this game? I can’t wait to get my copy of the book.
Tyler have you thought of doing a strategy guide for games? Also I don't recall if in Zelda 1 history game if you went over the 2nd world and how it differs from the first. :)
Yeah Spider I know I could try to fix it, but it is my original NES and I am afraid to mess it up lol. It has character at this point and it still works for me.
James: A strategy guide would sound like a fun project but it is definitely something that is out of my comfort zone lol. I didn't discuss the second quest in my Zelda video either. I am actually not very well versed in the second quest.
I think I remember being a tad scared playing this as a kid. I remember renting it at the local gas station and talking about it on the school bus. Good times.
It's definitely scary when Jason pops up in the cabins. I totally agree
Same. And the weekend my brother and I rented it, we had to stay at my grandmother's house in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by woods. Yeah... that didn't help 5 year old me get to bed any sooner. lmao
I was hella afraid also
you could rent games at the gas station?
Probably my favorite LJN game. Unpopular opinion: I like a few of the LJN games.
a few of them are pretty good just have esoteric gameplay instructions that make them hard to pick up and play (Friday the 13th being one of them)
Atari 2600 was cursed with games like this.
Plus LJN stuff is just fun to hate on thanks to a tradition established by a certain Angry nerd.
I like a few of the games too Jeremy. LJN gets unnecessary hate even though they never developed the games. They just published them
Well, a good amount of the games varies from mediocre, to bad, to terrible, to annoying, to just boring. Some of the are alright, though, I have a sweet spot for Nightmare on Elm Street.
I like Nightmare on Elm Street just as much, but I've always liked Friday the 13th and Nightmare, I love the creepy music when your inside the cabins!
I did as well. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Shot out to Ultra Games!!!
When I was young, the music🎶 in this game use to scare me. I listen to the music 🎶now, it brings back memories.
Oh definitely! Especially if you play this in the dark and Jason just shows up outta nowhere. lol
Very haunting soundtrack. The same composer for the music also did the Karate Kid NES game. They both have haunting tones in their music.
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
Thank you! I finally defeated Jason on the nes today with your tips! I remember I loved and hated this game growing up. Lighting the fireplaces was such an ordeal while Jason kept attacking every two minutes of gameplay. Once I got to level two I was frustrated as I could never defeat Jason in the cabins. I always got lost in the forest or in the cave. It only took me 31 years to finally pass this game for the 1st time. Thank you!!!
Awesome! Makes me happy that it helped you. Congrats on beating Jason!
The music when you enter the cabins with kids in them still gives me chills .great job brother you deserve way more attention
Thanks Marvin. I agree that the music is perfect for this game. Haunting but catchy
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
I love the nes friday the 13th game was never able to beat it until now. This walkthrough helped me. I was able to finally beat this game. Your strategy to play this game is probably the best i have seen. Great video!
Awesome stuff as usual. Excellent channel. Just the delivery and research done of these throwbacks. Ah, memories
Thanks Tim 🙏
Great follow up video man. I used your other video a few years ago as a guide to beat it on Friday the 13th
I'm waiting on my strategy guide to get here. I was glad you mentioned it being delayed because I was wondering what was going on with it. I've beaten this game probably a 100+ times, I just wanted something to collect for it because I've always loved it. I know you did the fast torch method but im surprised you didn't mention that lighting the fireplaces will also give you a torch as well. Great video. I always enjoy your uploads
I just never go the fireplace route lol. The game gets away from me if I try to light them all. I hope you can get the strategy guide as soon as possible. Great to hear from you man.
Great job as always! Thank you for making the video!
VERY WELL DONE Tyler! This new style was very impressive. Thanks so much for being awesome!
My pleasure! Thanks so much for the kind words as always dfortae!
I don't comment much but I want to say that this is an excellent video and I would LOVE to see a whole series just like this on different games. Thank you for being so awesome!
Thank you Ralph. I appreciate the encouragement for doing more videos like this. I'm glad you took time to comment.
I really enjoyed this. I love seeing you play your favourite games, your passion for the games you grew up with or found as a player-collector is infectious. I must say too that I think you're one of the most creative and varied retro gaming creators in your content. Your videos are always a joy to watch.
You made my day sir! Makes me happy that you enjoy the videos. I really try to bring content that is worth your time to watch 🙏
@@GenerationGapGaming Glad to have made your day! Keep on being awesome!
Love your content bud! Your channel is so underrated!!!! Big thank you brotha!!!!
You're welcome man. I appreciate the kind words
Thank you so much for the time and love put into this extremely under appreciated classic. Ground breaking game in so many ways. My only complaint about this strategy is that it’s kind of a shortcut. Getting the torch this way is too easy once you know it. Yes, lighting all the fireplaces gets you a flashlight (which DOES have multiple uses) but it also makes the torch appear in the same cabin. This is definitely the more challenging strategy, and one that shouldn’t be written off if you’re looking for a new challenge.
Thanks Stephen. Very well said. It is definitely more difficult with the fireplace method. I respect all your points you brought up.
Awesome play through. This was one of my first Nes games. I loved it as a kid and I still do. Kick ass job.
Awesome video man! I enjoyed watching every second!
Awesome! Makes me happy that you enjoyed it. Thanks.
Great Video. As a kid I loved NES games but could not get myself to appreciate Friday the 13th game even though I loved the movies. Now as an adult I can appreciate this game. Great Video
A whole walkthrough?!? Your content is always enjoyable!
I've grown to love this game now that I know what to do. Too bad we didn't have awesome walkthrough videos like yours 30 years ago. This walkthrough is exactly what I want to see in this type of video. Great job!
Thanks man. It is one of those games that once you know how to play it can become compulsive to play and see if you can beat it quicker each time.
Great job. Really enjoyed this video. Thank you
For putting this much effort into it.
My pleasure Ryan. Glad you enjoyed it
Really loved this and would enjoy seeing more walkthroughs in this style in the future. It's like someone took a guide from an old issue of Nintendo Power and turned it into a RUclips video! Looking forward to seeing the next one!
Awesome! Thanks so much for the great feedback Matt.
Way to go! Thanks for showing us how it’s done!
LEGENDARY music from this game! Creepy all the way around. Gameplay included! So nostalgic. Thank you for this video!
Glad you enjoyed it! It means a lot to me.
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
Man great job on editing! You get better with every video.
Thanks so much. Means a lot to me. I try to bring something better each time.
Thanks for the in depth video! Very informative and helpful 👍
My pleasure! Thanks for taking time to watch and comment back to me.
Great playthru video, Tyler! Thanks buddy!
You are most welcome. Glad you enjoyed.
Yes I love this game! Thank you for the post. When Jason pops out it still gets me to jump! Brings me back to when I was a kid and playing this at my babysitters house and that was almost 30 years ago!
Awesome! Glad it brought back some fun memories.
This is good and clean. Nice setup dude
awesome walkthrough man glad to see u back
Good to be back Dan! Thanks my friend.
Missed your videos...so happy to see a new one!!!
Thanks Craig! You help motivate me by saying that.
This game was very nostalgic for me. When released, fans were treated with a new F13 film (for better or for worse) annually so Jason-mania was still in high gear. We didn't have the luxury of having so many games available to play so when a game entered the household, you'd have every opportunity to play it to death until you mastered it (without the help of the internet). The learning curve made me appreciate this game very much. Sending you a new subscribe!
It definitely made you appreciate games better through trial and error. Great times. Thanks for subscribing. Welcome to G3!
Best guide I’ve seen for this game. You’ve really stepped up your production value with this video.
Thanks Sean. Means a lot to me dude.
GenerationGapGaming Hey gotta give credit where credit is due my man. I’ll definitely see if I can make your guide work for me when I get around to playing the game. I played it as a kid but recently picked up a copy and cleaned the pins. Got it working again. Now I just need to find the time to beat it.
@@GenerationGapGaming Here's my endorsement. I followed this guide and had this game beat within a half hour of game time. I sacrificed a couple counselors and some kids but pretty good considering I've only heard of people beating this game in the past.
Awesome video as always 👍👍 Good to see you well! A welcome video with great memories and content, wish i still had it to take care of Jason! Had the music of the game playing in my head the entire length of the video😁 one of those games you dont forget the music for.
Amazing music for sure. I completely agree. Great to hear from you!
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
Excited to watch this. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for this video! Like you, I have nothing but good memories with this game. Well maybe not the game itself, but playing it as a kid haha
Great video!
I didn’t have this game growing up but I do remember playing it at a neighbors house.
Looking forward to your next!
Thanks man! Dude I remember friends houses by the types of video games they had that I didn't have lol
Very very good walkthrough. Incredibly comprehensive !!
You're too kind John. Thanks for the feedback.
Happy to see you up and running again. Cheers.
Thanks my friend 👊
Love this game! Great video dude!!!
Thanks man!
I got my NES for Christmas 1988. I got Friday the 13th the following Christmas in 1989, so it was one of my first games. I played this game so much, that I was able to quickly beat it in about 30 minutes. There were a lot of different ways to beat this game. I didn’t know the torch trick you mentioned, but it’s a good idea. When starting the game, I would choose Chrissy, get the knife and fight Jason’s mom for the machete. Then I would rest Chrissy until day two and defeat Day 1 Jason with the other counselors. Day 2, I would fairly quickly beat Jason with the machete. Day 3, I would fight Jason’s mom with the machete, to get the pitchfork, then use the health I had remaining to damage Jason as much as possible, usually inside one of the cabins because fighting Jason outside on Day 3 was suicide for that counselor because he doesn’t back down until your dead at that point, but you can do a lot of damage to him faster outside.
The editing on this video is legit as hell. Well done.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind feedback
Man this makes me miss reading the instructional manuals. Love your content brother!
Awesome! I actually enjoy this game, but I'm just not good at it. I give it a play every Friday the 13th, but have never beat it
It definitely has a steep learning curve. It's more of a complex game than you would think. I don't fault anyone for having trouble with it.
Welcome back G3!
I use similar strategies myself when I speed run it. And I agree with taking the fight out of cabin, I noticed the difference in the damage you do to Jason outside the cabin a long time ago no matter what weapon you use. I always try to loop Jason after I fight him as well to do more damage, I know there is a trick to it.
On the second day I will go and fight Mrs. Vorhees for the sweater just in case I end up fighting Jason inside a cabin and I will also hoard vitamins as much as possible. I can handle fighting Jason in cabins on day 2 but day 3 can still be troublesome.
Great video and I may look into the strategy guide because I love this game and would love to help support it.
Thanks Zombie. Glad you enjoyed it. If you are interested in the strategy guide I did put a link in my pinned comment to check out 8-bit Steve's page.
Thank you! Awesome job! I'll definitely check out that kickstarter!
My pleasure Samuel!
Awesome man, so glad to see a new vid esp this one
thanks so much buddy. Great to hear from you too.
Love it! Subbed
Awesome video, glad to see you back. I hope the family is doing well
Thanks for asking about the family Thomas. We are all doing well and I hope you and yours are all good too.
Sweet my Custom NES Jason controller got some more use ha. Great walkthrough I loved how this was formatted and put together. You certainly helped me out in finally beating Jason last year on Friday the 13th when I was live streaming lol.
Thanks Russ! Your controller is probably my favorite controller to play with now. It looks great and is completely functional. It's what I used in the playthrough too
Where can I get a controller like this?
Dude, is there any way you can do one for a NES Classic? Or even the SNES classic? Loved the design!
Glad to see a new video!
Thanks man. Sorry it took so long lol. Hope you enjoyed.
Thanks for the video. It helped me beat Friday the 13th today
Excellent video
Great video man!
Thanks Aaron!
I really like the way you play through it. I usually get the ax then fight the mom for the torch on day 1. I do try to save the kids on day 2 & 3. I get the sweater on day 2 and pitchfork on day 3.
You learn to lean slightly sooner when you anticipate his double attack. I'll dodge that a few times until he slows down again then attack him.
Jaws and A Nightmare on Elm Street would be great to watch you play next 😊
Thanks for the tips on days 2 and 3 cabin fighting. I need to master his patterns. Thanks for the suggestions for other playthroughs too Bill. Always great to hear from you my friend.
Happy Birthday Tyler! Thanks for making awesome entertaining content for all of us.
Thanks Luis! Surprised that you knew it was my birthday. I really appreciate it.
GenerationGapGaming haha you mentioned it in a video a while ago.
Oh yeah lol
great content as always
Thank you very much as always too! Good to hear from you.
Thank you for this! I'm gonna try tonight
Great job with the video! I have loved this game since I was a child. My love for the game and the franchise is what lead me to speedrunning it. Steve did a wonderful job with the book! Be well!
Thanks man. Yes Steve knocked it out of the park!
Thank you!!!!! 🙏🏻 awesome video
My pleasure Jimbo!
Very nice work, my friend. Keep it up.
Thanks so much Matthew! Take care.
Thank you for the amazing content.
My pleasure! Thank you for taking time to tell me
Another great video!
Thanks again Rob! Always enjoy hearing from you my friend.
R.I.P. Laura, she was the real OG! Seriously though great strategy on this. You had him figured out really well! Would definitely like to see more of this!
Thanks Joey. Laura was expendable lol. Great to hear from you my man. You and your wife doing well?
@@GenerationGapGaming Doing good! Just got a move done and doing another Onimonth! Glad to see your content out here again!
I owned this as a child. Use to play for hours totally immersed. Never beat it but I never considered it a bad game.
Great video my friend.
The music in the cabins is the scariest video game music of all time. Great video.
It's a great soundtrack. Complements the game perfectly
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
This reminds me of "until we win" a series by Lordkat. It's been a while since the last until we win upload, glad someone's filling the gap. Looking forward to more!
Never heard of that series Matt. Happy you enjoyed the video.
Awesome play through!
Thanks William!
Glad to see something new bro. Been missing your content.
Thanks Mikey! Great to hear from you. Hope you are well.
Oh man... Always a great job. Thank you for this!
My pleasure Tyler!
Bro! Your back! Keep them coming...
I'm back Danny! Thanks for the words of support!
This is awesome!!! Please do more of these
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it. Now I am excited to make more.
😮😮😮😮 awesome and awesome and thank you! I didn't know that you can get that torch in day one I still play this!!!!
My pleasure Lamont!
Amazing video - I'm going to be plugging your channel on my season premiere video about Friday the 13th! This is GREAT!
Thanks so much 🙏
This game scared the crap out of me as a kid. It was way ahead of its time and I couldn’t get anywhere in it until recently when I figured out the game design.
This was very well done...always get a laugh at the Jason at the end screen...looks like hes passed out drunk after a rager..
Thanks so much. Even though the ending is bit underwhelming I do like the artwork too
Awesome, dude!
Thanks man! Good to hear from you.
Production values always so awesome. Surprised you’re not bigger
Like awesome. So many subtle bits that you can barely notice but just make it feel really professional
Thank you Harry. 🙏
Thank you for sharing your immersive playthrough experience :).
Having played this game WAY too much, I would have liked to have contributed to 8-bit Steve's strategy guide, but unfortunately was not aware of this project. Despite COVID-19, I have been working as usual.
Anyway, I'll most likely still order a copy, since Friday the 13th for the NES happens to be one of my favorite video games :). Need proof? I have successfully completed a George only no items no deaths run, as well as a 100% no items no damage run, among other crazy challenges hahaha!
Glad you are back , we missed you bro 💯
Bruce my man! Great to hear from you too buddy.
@@GenerationGapGaming definitely a pleasure
“Don’t worry about the children.” 😂 Great video!
I’m sorry to ask, this, but Back to the Future II & III on NES was kind of cryptic like this game lol. So much to keep track of to beat it.
What a PSA right lol?
Great video!
Thanks!
Good stuff, bro! I have never been patient enough to get all the way through this game. You make it seem so easy. More power to ya, man. LOL
Thanks buddy. It definitely is frustrating at first. A steep learning curve for sure lol.
I knew somewhat about Jason's patterns from the map that was made by the guy who set the speed run record for this game, but didn't know about the switching counselors, switching back and then leaving the cabin to fight Jason on the path, that's pretty cool. Gonna try that next time I play this game.
Hey I hope you see this comment!! Awesome Awesome Awesome video! I couldn't tell you how many channels I block due to click-baiting ect and it's awesome to run into a channel were I can relate too due to your accent(I'm from Kentucky btw) but just the quality of your video here is pretty freaking top notch! I'm definitely subbing to you. Keep up the great work. My favorite part is when you said ''and just start pepperin him'' lol i knew I was gonna sub haha
Thanks man! Great to hear you are from KY. Great place. Welcome to G3.
Awesome video my friend was getting tad worried ya hadn’t posted in a bit!Hope you and family are staying safe and not losing your minds in this COVID ..Friday the 13th drove me nuts almost had to repent lol fav channel on RUclips take care my friend!
We are doing well Jimmy. Thanks for asking. Hope you and yours are as well. This game is definitely frustrating when learning it lol.
My sister and I have wanted to tag team this one for years.
I remember renting it as a kid and loving the creepy music and the first person views of the houses 😰 I also beat him once then felt cheated because he got stronger AND needed to be beaten twice more 😆
Thanks for the walkthrough. I’ve worked on doing it the easy way on and off but never could do it quickly.
Hopefully you two can give this game a go now. You are most welcome for the walkthrough.
I did a Remake of that Cabin / map theme check it out and let me know what you think about it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/видео.html
Great stuff. I still remember the day we went to pick this up at a Hills Department Store.
🎵Hills is where the toys are🎵. Gotta love that jingle. Glad you enjoyed the video James.
One of my favorite games. I'm glad it is getting the attention it deserves. I like getting the pitchfork weapon.
The pitch fork is cool for sure. I just don't take time to grab it on day 3 lol
It's the only way to get the true ending
This is another one of my all time favorite nes titles.
EPIC INFORMATION 🙌🏾
Thanks man!
Oooooohhh yesssss thanks for upload love this channel!!!!
Thanks for the kind comment!
I knew I knew I KNEW that Mullet Boy was going to appear in one of the counselor avatar boxes in the menu screen, and I watched the whole video and never saw him. I had to cheat by looking in the comments to find him. Mullet Boy blended right in with this game. Nice job!
You found him lol
These tips helped alot, I always thought the sickle was the best weapon
Good stuff. Dig this video
Appreciate it! Very happy you enjoyed it.
Awesome concept!
Thanks for the great feedback!
That's pretty kool Nintendo controller you showed in the intro
I loved this game! The music is totally underrated As a kid I would mute the TV when looking for Jason in the cabins XD
