The original Castlevania was my absolute favorite arcade game. I spent so many quarters on the arcade version I just had to have it in the nes. vs. Castlevania but Player's Choice 10 Castlevania would be my all time most memorable.
Literally beaten this game multiple times as a kid, and never knew about all the places to kneel for free treasure. I always look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work
@@GenerationGapGaming thanks man... yeah that game gets unnecessarily bashed, i guess cuz its so different from the 1st one. U def cant complete it though without the game guide or whatever.... kneeling for 5 seconds with the orb at the wall?? Or to GET the orb or whatever it is??? Lol come on, too hard, developers! I think i actually called the NES HOTLINE for that one...
I think the biggest issue with Simon's Quest was the bad translation. For the type of game it was, being able to read the correct dialog was pretty much essential. And they sorta borked it. That's why the only way people in the west ever finished that game was via a guide or a buddy telling them what to do. (like kneel for 5 seconds to summon the tornado) But it's a classic imo Also, Bloody Tears = best Castlevania song ever!
I know people hate on it, but Simon’s Quest is my favorite Castlevania. A few years back I played Castlevania 2; Redacted, that replaced of of the unhelpful clues with real ones, and fixed some of the other problems, and it was awesome. Highly recommend checking it out.
The both of them are absolute queens! I don't think they realize how much of an impact they have had on kids that grew up obsessed with their work. They shaped my interest in history and my tastes in music... I'm forever indebted to them.
One of my favorite games ever. Love the difficult challenge. The atmosphere and music is just so damn good too. The original 3 Castlevania games are so great in their own rights.
Great game, good video, but there's always more. On stage 4, you can avoid the first skele-dragon by just walking straight under it, and you'll reach the door before it can hit you. Similarly, on stage 3 I find it easier to walk forward towards the platforms with the hunchbacks on, and turn back when they jump down. They will always do the jump with the bigger and slower arc, making it easier to hit them. And on stage 6, if you don't have the stopwatch and are overwhelmed, it's better to stand on the stairs to take a hit, because you don't get knocked down if you are on the stairs. This strategy becomes incredibly valuable in Castlevania 3, of course. Hilariously, despite having beaten this game dozens of time, I never knew there was a 1-up in the game. It's insane that there's only a single one, and it's so cryptic to get. Makes you wonder what is even the point.
That moment when you’re on your lunch break and GenerationGapGaming gives you the perfect entertainment to complement it. 16:14 Mullet boy on the far right in the inventory table! I just noticed it!
Simon's Quest was the first one I ever played. I played this one in the 90s and was a natural making it to Frankenstein's Creature and Igor with no effort. It took some work but over the years I beat the Creature, Death and finally Dracula. This is a fun one for me to go back and buzz through from time to time. I need to upload some video footage again. I'm really good at this game. I've beaten death with just the whip without getting hit by his pscythes.
One major tip is that you can actually walk through Dracula's legs during his second form without taking damage. This is useful if you get cornered. Not sure how many people know that.
True to a degree - i "think" you avtually have to wait for him to do a high jump as he nears the edge of the screen, then you can safely go under....been so long....man i loved this game
I have 2 copies. An early version that has a manufacturing defect that makes Simon walk in the air across screen and a later version that fixed it. Looks like the capacitors were too close to the chips and then they fixed it with later sold copies. I never saw a recall. Noticed this on a few of the first versions of other games where the capacitors were too close to the chips and caused overheating.
Noside Foxhound he missed one. There is a money bag in the clock tower after the pork chop location. You have to stand on the gears for a period of time to the right in the screen after the screen with the pork chop.
Fun facts, you can skip the underground section of stage 1 by damage boosting off the bat. You can also one shot the big bat, medusa(holy water), and the mummies (boomerang.) Bonus!! There IS IN FACT a hidden 1up in this game. As far as anyone knows, it's the only one.
Beating this game, Dracula's Curse and Super Castlevania IV were absolute achievements that brought me great joy as a kid. I favored the "boomerang" and used it all the way through.

Hunter P Brown did you know? After stage 99 the game stops counting the stages and it continues over and over. And there is a maximum of guys you can get by points. I believe it’s 32 guys. Maybe 36. Somewhere around there. So if you try to get more after that score is reached, you can’t get anymore guys even if you got 50,000.
Hunter P Brown go fire bomb when you can. After castle six, the game straight up starts cheating with the grim reaper. It’s seems that boss is the only one that changes the AI as the castles go by. I was around 11 when Castlevania dropped in 86 and it was one of those games that made me a gaming fan. Would love to see this IP get the Next Gen treatment with all the bells and whistles.

Can make some veterans learn something new be it history or exploits and it makes it so much easier for someone new to get a refresher and then try to follow the guide and learn from there when they start playing. I would have loved this channel growing up haha, I hope this manages to get some younger fellas to try the games you cover.

@@GenerationGapGaming I beat Grim Reaper thanks to you. I've been battling Dracula for a few hours, finally mastering your holy water strat to get the triple multiplier. Using oldschool save state, the good old leave your NES on over night lol. Thanks again.
I express my thanks for the videos you share sir, I enjoy learning the trivia of some of the games I have played and wanted to but did not get the chance.
Thanks man. I worked pretty hard on this one. Definitely the boldest production I put forth on a secrets and history video. Really glad you enjoyed it.
A few things missed. Just before you encounter the first raven in the third level, after you’ve climbed out of the first screen, if you jump off that platform instead of dropping, a ghost will attack you. In the final level, when you finally get to the point of being attacked by the eagles and the hunchbacks, when climb down into the second screen just before you climb up and get ready to exit that area to the stairs that lead to Dracula’s chambers, if you go left and stand on a gear for a short period of time, while being attacked by eagles and hunchbacks, you’ll get a money bag that will appear on the landing you where on when you entered the screen.
Thanks for the tips dude. I did know about the money bag in the final level but i left it out since the video was running a bit long. I should have put it in there lol.
GenerationGapGaming another thing I didn’t see which I liked doing is this. If you let the game run the demo twice all the way through, and you press start at the title screen, something unusual will happen. It changes the mood of the game for the first level.
@@GenerationGapGaming every video gets better and better bro no bull 💯. Also I'm pretty partial to Castlevania ,one of my all time fave series and top 5 nes games
I relive my childhood every say thanks to Castlevania Anniversary Collection. It is so awesome to watch my sons playmy childhood favorite. They love it as much as I do.
I'm happy you mentioned Christopher Belmont. He never gets the attention he deserves despite being canon. He was the first to killed Dracula twice before Simon later would. He also wasn't included in the *Greatest Five* attack in Portrait of Ruin. Should be the Greatest Six! 😭
AT 15:27 I sometimes get a treasure that pops up at the floor below when I jump over to the moving ledge or it might be if I stand there for a few seconds.
The only times I've seen a treasure appear in that spot is from the second playthrough, onward (i.e., beating the game once, then starting the second [and more difficult] quest from the beginning).
Ok this was even better than I could have imagined. Incredible collab and overview of an all time classic. Love that you had NES Complex at the intro there, and MegaDan is the icing on the cake. That feeling when you finally beat the game without using save states is so satisfying! Great video dude!
That opening narration was some quality stuff. Took me a second to realize that it wasn't just an excerpt from the Netflix series or something
I only have castlevania 3 on hard copy but this got me to begin playing through the game on the nes classic. I feel like I’ve missed so many years of great games by ignoring this series. Great video!
That controller is boss! Thanks for the video and the play through. The first Castlevania is my favorite NES game, and it’s always good to see others enjoying it and encouraging others to do likewise! Thank you!
Russ did an amazing job on the controller.
I love that you and Nescomplex are doing things together like this. I was big fans of both channels before the announcement, and I can’t wait to see what you guys have coming up.
Your comment makes me excited. NESComplex and I have a few ideas for the future.......
Excellent video. Wonderfully edited and very educational for CV1 players
That Abraham Lincoln Curtain part got me so hard.. xD
"He was a vampire hunter at least..."
Thanks for making the video, really helped me beat Frankenstein, 2 more levels to go!
My pleasure man. Glad it helped!
@@GenerationGapGaming I beat Grim Reaper thanks to you. I've been battling Dracula for a few hours, finally mastering your holy water strat to get the triple multiplier. Using oldschool save state, the good old leave your NES on over night lol. Thanks again.
My local Pizzaslut had a PacMan cocktail table game and a Castlevania machine. Van Halen's "Jump" was often heard playing on the juke box.
Great intro!!! Love this game!! Great video!! A+
Thanks so much Robert! 👊
Excellent video my friend, just top notch as always!
Your voice is medicinal! I could legit listen to every review on your list all day! Awesome video!
I express my thanks for the videos you share sir, I enjoy learning the trivia of some of the games I have played and wanted to but did not get the chance.
The production on this video is really good. From the theatrics to the documentary style stuff.
Thanks man. I worked pretty hard on this one. Definitely the boldest production I put forth on a secrets and history video. Really glad you enjoyed it.
This was absolutely fantastic. Loved every second.
Thanks so much man! Appreciate you taking time to let me know you enjoyed it.
I’m 40 years old and still learning new stuff about this game. How great is that?
DarkSide Blues good stuff man, awesome to see ppls responses on more hidden stuff lol
Wow !! I’ve been playing this game since it came out , but here was a whole bunch of things I didn’t know about. Thx 4 upload.
I love this game!!! Still haven't beaten it though lol. Thanks triple G!!!
This video was so epic man from the intro to the detail ,just everything. Definitely your best work yet Tyler 🤘🏼
Wow Alex! Thanks so much. I always enjoy you taking time to comment and if you say it's my best work then that makes my day dude.
@@GenerationGapGaming every video gets better and better bro no bull 💯. Also I'm pretty partial to Castlevania ,one of my all time fave series and top 5 nes games
Very good presentation of a masterpiece, thank you man!
I relive my childhood every say thanks to Castlevania Anniversary Collection. It is so awesome to watch my sons playmy childhood favorite. They love it as much as I do.
Never beat this game in my life but gave it many runs. Awesome video and can't wait for your next one. Keep it up!
I'm happy you mentioned Christopher Belmont. He never gets the attention he deserves despite being canon. He was the first to killed Dracula twice before Simon later would.
He also wasn't included in the *Greatest Five* attack in Portrait of Ruin. Should be the Greatest Six! 😭
They did such an awesome job on the Netflix series hope they keep it going
AT 15:27 I sometimes get a treasure that pops up at the floor below when I jump over to the moving ledge or it might be if I stand there for a few seconds.
The only times I've seen a treasure appear in that spot is from the second playthrough, onward (i.e., beating the game once, then starting the second [and more difficult] quest from the beginning).
Excellent video ! Thanks for doing this for us - very fun watch / enjoyable to listen to - and a fine tribute to this gaming Classic ! :-)
Thanks so much for the kind words man! You are very welcome. I enjoyed making it.
Ok this was even better than I could have imagined. Incredible collab and overview of an all time classic. Love that you had NES Complex at the intro there, and MegaDan is the icing on the cake. Easily my favorite video I’ve seen this month, and beyond! That little tidbit of Dracula’s body parts spreading to set up Castlevania II is fascinating. Loved this! Great work, GGG! Much love brother! Stay Smashing :-)
Dude thanks soooo much! Really appreciate you sharing your opinion on the video and it means a lot that you enjoy it cause I know you know your stuff.
This was put together very well. Really enjoyable to watch and remember the game. Talking to my son about games that I played, well before he was born, is fun.
First game I ever played with multiple ending!! 👍 Great job on the video, I can't believe I missed this when it was uploaded
