I'm looking back on this video now in 2017. I can't believe I beat Hagane when I made this video. I must have been out of my mind. (that much hasn't changed..) I barely even remember playing half of these games now it's been so many years. And I totally forgot how much I liked Firepower 2000. Anyway hope you guys enjoy the video! Thanks for watching -Mike
Nice vid, but just a little correction on Firepower 2000, it was originally an Amiga game called SWIV which stood for SilkWorm IV (Silkworm was another amiga game of the same type but was two player and side scrolling) They never actually made a 2 or 3 and just jumped to IV because they believed it was a massive jump in terms of graphics. If you enjoyed firepower you should try the amiga version of SWIV, many consider it to be the best shooter on the platform (I personally think Xenon II takes the crown, but it amazing)
Hey Mike you should look at the Wild Guns Reloaded on the PS4 or PC. It pretty much fits all your notes for how to make the game better. You could make a video about how to properly remaster a game.

Most of those were prominently featured in Nintendo Power, and other gaming publications. The only game I'd actually consider somewhat obscure is Hagane, because it was rental only. I don't think there's many obscure SNES games left, with 700ish releases and tons of coverage on the net. I might pick these 3 though. 1. Claymates (above average platformer with some puzzle elements, and speeds that top Sonic). It has excellent graphics, controls, and catchy music. 2. Phantom 2040 (under appreciated action/adventure). 3. Ghoul Patrol (seeing how its basically a sequel to the cult hit Zombies Ate My Neighbors, I am ways surprised at how few SNES fans know about it. While it may not have lived up to ZAMN, its definitely worth playing. I think any future obscure/hidden SNES gem lists should definitely focus on the SFC/SNES Japanese and Euro markets. There are tons of amazing games that never made it out here.
@VideoGameObsession 1. "speeds that top Sonic" lol no. Sega's processor was nearly 3x faster than SNES. 3. Not that obscure, it was on the Wii Virtual Console.
Rock and Roll racing was my dad's second favorite game right after Link to the Past. He was 35 or so when they came out, so as a kid I thought he was a huge nerd. How things seem to come full circle.

Magic Sword is a great port from the arcade. I used to play the heck out of it on the arcade back in the day. Metal Marines is a great snes strategy game I could see ranking on a list like this.
yeah, this game is one of my all time favorites, the art is this game is phenomenal, and I;m not even saying anything about music music is pure classic
Gonna add an Honorable Mention to this list: King Arthur's World. It was more of a strategy game, it wasn't a shooter exactly, but nailing far off enemies with the catapult is always great fun.
Ever played Legend of the Mystical Ninja? This game motivated me through life to eventually move to Japan. And it even introduced me to Japanese culture, food, and geography. One of the greatest games I've ever played. And one that no one really seems to discuss or know about.
Cinemassacre u know mike u should have mentioned the original hagane which is harder than the u.s game hagane the final conflict as it was harder than it. The Japanese game had only 9 continues while the u.s game had infinite continues and some of the bosses took more hits to kill in the Japanese game. But anyway awesome list. U should also make list of other obscure games of other consoles too.
+Cinemassacre Yeah, thanks for this video, Mike. Some time after watching it, I found a copy of Demons Crest at a used game store. It was pretty expensive, but it's such a great game, really don't regret buying it.
I agree that it's quite difficult at times, but with a bit of practice and unlimited continues, you can definitely make it! some bosses took me a lot of tries, too though.
BRUH this is the first time ive watched this specific video for some reason, but the fact that king of dragons is on here makes me extremely happy! Easily one of my favorite side scroller beat em ups

***** yeah.. It was a nice game to have back in the day- for kids that couldn't afford actual computers. But it just pales too much in comparison with the PC version to be considered anything more than a novelty.
Top gear 2 is my favorite snes game. I play the tunes when I drive. They even include Canadian cities in the game like Toronto and Vancouver. Here we go now!
Rock N Roll Racing was one of my FAVORITE games. My buddies and I would take turns racing each other all night at sleepovers. SO much fun.. shooting people from all the way across the track was awesome!
Demon's Crest was an amazing game to play as a kid. I couldn't find the last crest that me and my friend were looking for to fight the end boss so I just drowned my character so we could go get dinner. Turns out it was right in the water I drowned in!
I'm surprised that Rock & Roll Racing is considered obscure, likewise with Firepower 2000 aka SWIV (which was originally on the Amiga) - I saw both of these games reviewed and on sale in the UK.
Wild Guns.... always thought of it as a sequel to Blood Brothers.... even tho it wasnt. both are pretty identical with gameplay....and the western setting. Both are great games.
I haven't played on an SNES (because I don't have one) but i played some remakes on the gba and they are amazing! Super mario world probably the third best mario platformer, i just wish they didn't add the cape or make it less op..
Knights of the Round and other Capcom fighting games always made me wonder, who stops in the middle of beating up guys to eat a salad they found just lying in the road? I wouldn't fight that guy. He eats road salad, imagine what he'll do to your ass.
Omg!!! Magic Sword! I remember playing that as a kid but all I remembered was the helpers that would follow you around like the archer but couldn't recall the name of the game until now.
These videos help me choose what to play when I'm looking through the laundry list of games on my emulator. Love this stuff, thanks for the upload Mike.
My biggest annoyance with people making top lists for games, even "hidden gem" and "unknown games" lists, is that people go for the 'best'. For example, with SNES. Top 10/20 lists always end up being the same games. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, Kirby, etc. And then the "hidden gem" and "lesser-known" game lists are ALSO usually the same list of games as every other hidden gem list. The thing is, there's 700+ SNES games in just the US region. Even more if you count the Europe and Japan exclusives. There are a LOT of games that aren't the best, but are also still fun. But they almost never get mentioned because they're not the best, but also not bad enough to be memorable. They're just fun games that aren't quite good enough to make lists. So no one mentions them. Which sucks, because there are actually quite a few games that SHOULD be mentioned, but aren't. I have a huge set of ..well..EVERY SNES game ever on my computer. All organized by region. I'm currently just slowly scrolling through the entire 700+ US section, picking out and trying games that sound like they could be interesting. And so far, just in the past hour, I've found a good 10-15 games that I enjoyed, that I've never heard of. None of them were amazing, but they were still fun, and definitely worth playing. Just to name a couple games I've found in the past hour that were quite fun: Cutthroat Island, Captain Commando, Blazeon, Bonkers, Boogerman, Brain Lord, and Brawl Brothers. Personally, I think this whole "top #" thing needs to stop. And people should instead just make a huge list of every game they think is good and worth someone's time. It would make lists a lot more varied, as well as allowing people to add games that may not be worthy of a top 10, but still are worth trying. Think of it was a huge "honorable mentions" list, except it also includes the games that'd make the top lists.
Jamy Franken Yeahhh..my point is that the lists are made more for views rather than for making a list of games. People already know about "the best". There's already a million "best" lists. Why not make a list of less mentioned games that people haven't heard about 600 times before?
TXF I completely agree with you, but i just don't see it happen. Maybe if you were a bit better known you could pull that crap on youtube or else people won't even be interested.
+TXF Its not even possible to do a Top 10 List of Video Games. You can only do a Top 10 List, if you have played ALL Games on this Planet. And even than its belongs to your personal Opinion wich one you like. So all Top 10 List are just Bullshit. In this Video you can clearly see he have 6 or 7 Games where you walk around with a Sword and fight Enemies. He have not only one Jump n Run Game. Thats cleary his personal Taste of Games. And far away from a Top 10 List.
Karl S. Well yeah. Top 10s are personal favorites. It's more of a "my 10 favorite games" list. I still think they're a bit pointless because they're all the same, and no one mentions the lesser-talked about games.
God damn. as soon as you mentioned Rock and Roll Racing, my heart fluttered and I thanked God that someone actually gave this awesome game attention. I grew up with this game while I had N-GEN Racing on PlayStation, I always chose this game over the other one.
How is Demon's Crest obscure? It may not have sold much for it's time, but it's one of the most famous franchises for the time. Here's an obscure title for you, Dragon View. Great action RPG content done in a western RPG style and I doubt many people have even heard of it. Look at the wiki, they have an entire two paragraphs dedicated to it.
One thing that makes the big guy with the hammer so easy in Knights of the Round is the block button (which is the X button, unless you change it in Options). If you learn how to time using the block button properly, you can even block him when he's jumping on you.
Man, thank you Mike! I would have never heard of Hagane if not for this video. I was a little stumped on what to play next and for now Hagane is my main game.
Natal Ribeiro Sunny Burrito That's awesome guys! Thanks for takin the suggestion, and confirming my opinion of this game bein awesome! =) Good people you are =) We just gotta see James and Mike's take on it to see if they agree with us now =)
The King of Dragons and Demon's Crest are some of my favourites on this list! A few more would be ActRaiser and Judge Dredd the game, for SNES, the latter one is pretty good to give a go. Not sure if it's obscure, but it's fun for what it is.
"wild guns is one of those games that you play for a night then put on the shelf." "the replay value is immense." I feel like those two statements contradict one another.
I had "Rock and Roll Racing" and it was loads of fun. A couple of other SNES games that were overlooked that was fun were "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" and "The Lost Vikings".
Why were so many of these games platformer/beat-em-ups and top-down shooters? The list is dying for an RPG like Lufia, Illusion of Gaia, 7th Saga, or Soul Blazer, a strategy game like Ogre Battle, or a goofy game like Plok. I think it's a good list, just not as diverse as it could be.
Splendid list. I'd add On The Ball aka Cameltry to the list. It's a 2D maze game with gravity that is a lot of fun and makes great use of the SNES's Mode 7.
I agree, back in the day me and many of my friends were hyped when it came out because it focused on a kegenday Ghouls & Ghosts character also it represented somewhat a continuance of the Super Ghouls and Ghosts games for the SNES
Derpurs Machinest what do you expect they arent populoar so they arent sold as well so there are less of them so they are more rare so they cost more solution: EMULATORS
+Derpurs Machinest (Gamer88) you could always just buy a SD Card cart that you can plug a SD card into then download a bunch of roms. they are pretty expensive but a one time investment will give you access to every game on the console, and they are made for every console.
+Jordan Mattes Best thing ever! and the few games you can't play on either model (Super Everdrive or SD2SNES) you can buy or play on emulator and be good to go!

I wouldn't say Terranigma is obscure. It was basically the Chrono Trigger of Europe since they didn't get Chrono Trigger but got this instead
I suppose it is worth noting that I am European :P It was still fairly obscure, at least in Romania and Germany.

Poul N My age has nothing to with it. I've owned and played extensively in the SNES and the PS1 has a better library for me.
ps2 is unreachable. fact!
Knights of the Round and other Capcom fighting games always made me wonder, who stops in the middle of beating up guys to eat a salad they found just lying in the road? I wouldn't fight that guy. He eats road salad, imagine what he'll do to your ass.
2:53 I'm not sure, maybe because it is Olaf from The Lost Vikings?
He's just a kid reviewing games he doesn't know about... He should just stick to Halo.
He's around 40 at this point.
***** k...same age then. but when reviewing an item, the person should know what he's talking about. For the joy of the viewers.
In heroes of the storm there is also one who looks like Olaf hmm strange
xefillion It is the Lost Vikings... 24 years later and they are still very much alive !
Omg!!! Magic Sword! I remember playing that as a kid but all I remembered was the helpers that would follow you around like the archer but couldn't recall the name of the game until now.
*Jurassic Park.....love that game, NO SAVE feature though....pity it won't be on the SNES Classic mini*
Noelio Emerald-Isle then hack the snes mini
I'd love to see you make more top 10s, Mike. Your videos are really entertaining.
Obscure SNES Gems ---> SMW on the thumbnail
IRONY........
These videos help me choose what to play when I'm looking through the laundry list of games on my emulator. Love this stuff, thanks for the upload Mike.
The single-most damaging video to video game prices?
SNES was great. Showing Uniracers took me back! Used to have a blast with that game.
+Nick Comello
I think Uniracers has best easter egg ever. When you change your player's name to Sonic game says "Not Cool Enough". That's funny I think.
I loved uniracers. Such a unique game idea
+TXF It's usually the best. That's how you get views. 'nuff said
Jamy Franken Yeahhh..my point is that the lists are made more for views rather than for making a list of games. People already know about "the best". There's already a million "best" lists. Why not make a list of less mentioned games that people haven't heard about 600 times before?
TXF
I completely agree with you, but i just don't see it happen. Maybe if you were a bit better known you could pull that crap on youtube or else people won't even be interested.
+TXF
Its not even possible to do a Top 10 List of Video Games.
I've never heard of it so good choice
The Western game is available for the switch snes game collection
One thing that makes the big guy with the hammer so easy in Knights of the Round is the block button (which is the X button, unless you change it in Options). If you learn how to time using the block button properly, you can even block him when he's jumping on you.
Man, thank you Mike! I would have never heard of Hagane if not for this video. I was a little stumped on what to play next and for now Hagane is my main game.
lots of Capcom games, i really miss that old days
Fucking Capcom put out nothing but hits!
Jeffrey Carpenter Well, almost.
One word for both of you:EMULATOR
+Tekai Wellington softmodded wii is the way to go, you can use the wiimote or gc depending
+cinemassacre you gotta try blackthorne! i just played it, one of the best overlooked games EVER!
Il try it
Zeina107 let me know how you like it =)
+Zeina107 same
+Sunny Burrito very true, the character are badass
Natal Ribeiro Sunny Burrito That's awesome guys! Thanks for takin the suggestion, and confirming my opinion of this game bein awesome! =) Good people you are =) We just gotta see James and Mike's take on it to see if they agree with us now =)
Olaf IS Olaf. Lost Vikings was a Blizzard game.
Some great looking games, and I don't think I heard about any of them before this vid. SNES was/is such a great console.
The King of Dragons and Demon's Crest are some of my favourites on this list! A few more would be ActRaiser and Judge Dredd the game, for SNES, the latter one is pretty good to give a go. Not sure if it's obscure, but it's fun for what it is.
Demon's Crest is hardcore af and way ahead of its time.
Hagane is super expensive.
+Kaiser499 "Hagane is super expensive."
I'm surprised that even Japanese copies are expensive. Must've been a low-key release all round.
+Michael Ross I thought it was around 200$ before and then jumped to 400$ i'm about to put my poorly taken care of cart up on ebay.
because of the bullshit lie about it being rental-only..thanks to people like Mike
I loved the music in Knights of the Round. Some really memorable tunes.
I agree, it has an epic sountrack
this freakin guy didn't think to say "Gee, Hikagi sure looks kind of a fucking plagiarizing lot like Shinobi"
"wild guns is one of those games that you play for a night then put on the shelf." "the replay value is immense." I feel like those two statements contradict one another.
Love demon Crest never hear anyone talk about it
I had "Rock and Roll Racing" and it was loads of fun. A couple of other SNES games that were overlooked that was fun were "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" and "The Lost Vikings".
sunset riders should've been number 1
I'm suprised no Phantom 2040 on this list , it's an awsome metroid clone and it has 20 endings !
Phantom 2040 is an awesome game, but I wouldn't call it a Metroid clone.
ActRaiser!
Lagoon was very unknown. I guess it was considerate for this top ten. I just love that game!
Cybernator
Avoid the mines... Where did you learn to fly???
knights of the round was top arcade game in bulgaria : )
who cares
@@uzieric1 why be an ass?
The cousin of 'where did you learn to fly' 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why were so many of these games platformer/beat-em-ups and top-down shooters? The list is dying for an RPG like Lufia, Illusion of Gaia, 7th Saga, or Soul Blazer, a strategy game like Ogre Battle, or a goofy game like Plok. I think it's a good list, just not as diverse as it could be.
mcjamdonald 16-Bit Gems has covered some great games in the RPG category.
None of those games you mentioned are obscure
plok was the shit
Soul Blazer is not obscure, though, I think?
G.Gargoyle stands for "Ground Gargoyle"
So he reviews games but misses things like that?
would you please do a genesis or ps1 video of this
Splendid list. I'd add On The Ball aka Cameltry to the list. It's a 2D maze game with gravity that is a lot of fun and makes great use of the SNES's Mode 7.
I really do not think Demon's Crest was obscure at all >_>
+keffypoo It became famous thanks to the internet about 10 years ago, it wasn't famous at all when it came out
ive never heard of it till now
I agree, back in the day me and many of my friends were hyped when it came out because it focused on a kegenday Ghouls & Ghosts character also it represented somewhat a continuance of the Super Ghouls and Ghosts games for the SNES
None of the games on this list are obscure at all
almost every single game is expensive as shit to get :-(
Derpurs Machinest what do you expect they arent populoar so they arent sold as well so there are less of them so they are more rare so they cost more
solution: EMULATORS
+Derpurs Machinest (Gamer88) you could always just buy a SD Card cart that you can plug a SD card into then download a bunch of roms. they are pretty expensive but a one time investment will give you access to every game on the console, and they are made for every console.
+Jordan Mattes Best thing ever! and the few games you can't play on either model (Super Everdrive or SD2SNES) you can buy or play on emulator and be good to go!
What do you expect? Nintendo resellers are some of the worst people on the planet.

Knights of the Round provides hundreds of hours of fun with my friends
Rock'n'Roll racing is well known in Russia
Weedus2 pc remake sucks
Weedus2 That rip off was renamed and shutdown, only part thay made was the no good UI & medioca grafix It manly just stole content from blizzard and the bands as all sounds & names where from the SNES game thay just riped the content from the game and yes the name, music, voice & sounds used in the SNES game are still under © & ™ of blizzard and the bands.
It was also very popular in Brazil.
